Hate championship squash matches. Kofi didn't change my mind, Bianca didn't change my mind, and this doesn't change my mind. Hate it.

At least you are consistent with your stance. I think in the moment they suck, especially in the case of Kofi cause he never reached that height again, but if the storyline can build from them then they have a place.

They definitely suck for the paying crowd and the viewing audience, though, since you are anticipating a great match.

In the moment…not a huge fan.

Now, the upcoming storyline can potentially change that opinion. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks.

I mean the Bianca stuff ended well and was pretty good, but it was hard for me to care when she was made to look like such a chump. There's just gotta be another way.

Becky over Bianca and Lesnar over Cena are examples of it going really well because of what came after. But Lesnar over Kofi and Goldberg over Owens are examples of it just being stupid.

Roughly 160k tuned in for Punk and Mox, and those same people changed the channel as soon as it was done lol

I wonder if that trios main event holding the viewership so well was a product of the match itself or if people were hanging around thinking that match wasn't going to actually fill all the time it did.

Bischoff talks about ratings all the time on his podcast, and when you get down to numbers in the 100-150k range moving one way or another he doesn't take it too seriously because all these numbers are based on limited sample size. So who knows.

I was one of those. Your two biggest stars in a squash match; I was done after that.

AEW is becoming more and more less watchable to me.

Hot shot booking, a locker room (seemingly) in disarray and a clear "power struggle" amongst the talent will do that.

Crazy how they were on such a high with momentum last year, but one year later they haven't reached anywhere near the levels I thought they could.

Unfortunately, I doubt anything changes and the "hive mind" of the wrestling audience will say that they're doing "just fine." [emoji2377]

That's a knock on AEW and WWE to me.

The main event match 9 times out of 10 ends the show. You know the match won't be ending for at least X minutes because theres 15+ mins left in the show. So you don't have the "match can end at any time" feeling.

And then you don't have shows ending with those major storylines/cliffhangers. How do you get people to tune in until the end? Have the end of the show featuring big moments or cliffhangers.

Something Graves said on his podcast confirms what we basically knew already, at least for WWE. The placement of matches and segments are based on when people watch. So instead of WWE trying to get more eyes on the main event, they put the biggest match in the timeslot that usually has the biggest audience.

Feels a bit backwards to me. Sounds like instead of trying to hook people for the show, they're just producing based on past/current trends.

I think it was pretty clear relatively quickly after Punk debuted that they were never going to blow up and start getting 1.5-2M viewers a week. All this recent drama is just silly **** that I don't think really matters.

AEW has gotten better in the past year at producing TV every week from a technical standpoint, but as a result of that slickness there's a formulaic sameness that doesn't really separate it from WWE enough.

But the fact that Rampage dies a viewership death every Friday is a bad sign too, even though it has a bad timeslot. If the AEW product overall was hot that wouldn't be happening. Meanwhile Raw and Smackdown are taking advantage of summer time with less competition and improving their ratings. [emoji2369]

                              Why mention WWE, though?

My statement has no barring on them and what they are currently doing. Yes, you are right WWE are taking advantage of no NFL and a regime change, right now, but a lot of the problems with AEW are internal.

I definitely think they could've grown their audience by a wider audience by now, but are clearly not interested in that it seems. Whether they were being sycophants or giving their honest opinion I don't know, yet even the AEW talent was singing the company's praises and talking like a big ground swell of support was imminent.

They better hope the slow and steady approach doesn't bite them in the *** with how Discovery is gutting Warner Bros. properties.

And the production of both companies are like night and day. AEW still has a lot of work to do with camera work and not exposing when certain things (blading for example) are happening.

This video pretty much summarizes my thoughts:

I'll leave now, let people enjoy what they like, hope that AEW can really find another big momentum boost and capitalizes on it next time.

Because they are the standard for commercially successful pro wrestling TV programming. AEW more and more feel like they are directly following in their footsteps, when there was a time that I thought they might chart their own path. There's also word that Discovery wants them to tone down the language. I still prefer AEW's production, but that could change if they become as patterned as WWE.
