Carpenter Goes The Distance On Opening Day
Redbirds Ace to much for the Reds on Opening Day
Cincinnati,OH- Well, opening day is finally upon us. And it was a beautiful day in the queen city, as the Reds continued their long legacy of baseball. This year the Reds had to open up against the 2009 NL Central Champs, the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals Matt Holliday got the offense going early by hitting an opposite field HR in the first to give St. Louis an early 1-0 lead.

A big 3rd inning put the game out of reach for Cincy, as the Cardinals managed to put across 3 more runs to make it 4-0. They added another run in the 5th, and that was all the former Cy Young pitcher needed as Chris Carpenter really had the Reds number.

The Reds were able to get a run back in the 7th behind a Ramon Hernandez RBI single, but it was not enough.

The series will have an off day Tuesday but will pick back up Wednesday night as it will have Edinson Volquez coming back from an injury plagued 2009 season. He will face the other Cardinals ace, Adam Wainwright. The ballgame starts at 7:05 pm EST, and tickets are still available.

7 Strong Innings Leads to Volquez Victory
Reds comeback strong to take game 2.
Cincinnati, OH- In, what was a very quick game, the Reds managed to put away St. Louis with some very strong pitching.

The Reds offense was led by the speedster, Chris Dickerson, who led off the Reds 1st inning with a solo shot. He also had an RBI groundout in the 5th. Orlando Cabrera had an RBI double off the wall, in the 3rd.

The big story was Edinson Volquez. He went 7 strong innings, and did not allow a run at all. The bullpen managed to come in and close the door, as the Reds managed to get their first win of the season.

Thanks for following, yeah Pujols was a challenge, I was happy to see the staff shut him down. The real struggle came against Ludwick, he killed me.

Very nice.. Following. Good to see my team get off to a good start. Unrealistic... but nice to see nonetheless.

Don't worry, my first game against the Cubs was very Reds-ish.

I'll be running with the Reds when I pick it up... Definitely enjoying the reads though. Looking forward to the Cubbies write-up.

One Poor Pitch Does in the Reds
Cueto's hanger leads to Cubs victory.
Cincinnati, OH- Things were going smoothly for the Reds through out the beginning of the game. They took an early lead in the 1st behind Votto's towering homerun. Cueto was striking out batters left and right. The Reds were in complete control.

Then the 4th happened. A bloop single by Theriot, a ducksnort by Ramirez, but still no worries. Cueto gets Soriano down 1-2 in the count and was looking to throw Alfonso's buggaboo, the down and away slider. The only problem, it did not get down or go away, it was nailed over the left field wall, the Cubs were up 3-2.

You would think, no worries, the Reds could score again, but Wells had his A game on the mound Friday night. He pitched 7 strong innings, only allowing the 2 run homer in the 1st.

Carlos Marmol came into the game in the 9th, with a 4-2 lead, and made things interesting. 2 runners on, 2 outs, lead off man Chris Dickerson up and it was a battle. It was a 3-2 count and on the 8th pitch, the ball thrown was a slider, that looked a tad outside, but the umpire [Ed Coleman] thought differently, ringing up Dickerson, ending the Reds chances and the Cubs were victorious.
