    Chapter 3.3: Sink or swim

Things will never unfold the way that you dream, seriously check out Inception, but isn’t that what makes the opportunity so great? Double A season has started but it hasn’t started the way I had dreamed, now I could come online and moan about my shortcomings or I could focus on this opportunity and how it is the biggest opportunity of my life, and that is what I would rather do. I have this chance in front of me and I realize that I need all the imperfections and the mistakes to happen. If the world unfolded as I dreamed then I would never face any adversity and one day the bubble would burst and the dream would fade.

This is what I’m talking about. Not how I expected things to start up. Personally I was thinking 4-4 with a Homerun. But hey this is what it takes, this is how it should be. Most of us don’t really like the idea that things have to be challenging for us to improve but that is how it should be. This is the type of player I am, a grinder that will do anything possible. Time to see if I will sink or swim.

By the way, guys, I had forgotten completely about my brothers. With all the excitement I had not thought to update on how they are doing (not that I know personally). Updates on them will come shortly. And before anyone ask…Yes it does suck being stuck in AA while they are in AAA.

      Chapter 3.4: Swimming

Things have turned the corner, I’m starting to feel much more comfortable and 4/14/11 really shows that. That first at bat I felt loose and seemed that things have slowed down a little bit. Hopefully this continues. I’ve started mostly every game to start the season, which I take to be a good sign. But, I have to say that I overheard my coaches talking about how they felt I might be a better fit at second base…I’m not opposed to the idea.

Hey guys. Here is the update I promised on my brother, Derek. As you can see he has been doing quite well for himself. It won’t last…I least I believe it won’t.

Last three games have gone alright. Nothing special, but I’m performing well enough to keep the manager happy. I’m still not a starter but I feel that my all around skill is valuable to the team. I managed to steal a base and drive in a run on 4/15/11 but also committed an error.

Lately I’ve been hanging out with Nate Sutton, he is the team’s starting 2B. He is a good guy but after hearing about the idea of me being switched over to 2B it is a little uncomfortable knowing that the only person I talk to is my competition.

          Chapter 3.5: Starting

Ha! I got an email after our game on 4/23/11 from the manager telling me that from now on I will be starting at SS. This is great news! I’ve got to tell my mom and dad and family and….wait, yeah that’s right. They don’t care. Hopefully the 18 people I have following this blog do. I feel it is a great accomplishment even at Double A ball, it is the next step and I guess the great news is that this means Nate and I can remain friends without any problems. Know how I’m going to celebrate? I’m going to watch Ghost Busters on my small *** TV. Hey, I guess if you guys have any questions feel free to ask.

Great thread man, just caught up and I'm def following.

And I have a question; How's life in Burmingham treating you? You got your own place? You rooming with one of the guys? Do you have any kind of a life outside of baseball?

Hey, TheKT, thanks for the questions. You know I was worried that where ever I ended up I was going to hate it. Not because I was going to become homesick but because it would require having to meet new people, and honestly I don’t make friends easily. But, I have to say that Birmingham, Alabama is a great place.

Really I haven’t had the time to go out and get a better feel for the city but from what I’ve encountered it really feels like a good fit for my personality. With all the traveling that goes on not much time is really set aside to enjoying the culture. My favorite attraction down here has to be the McWane Science Center. It is a museum dedicated to science and I find it fascinating (only visited once) I went with a few of the guys to look around and we saw Hubble in IMAX, which was cool. I hope to go to the zoo; I’ve always enjoyed interactive outdoor activities just as much as my PS3.

Currently I am rooming by myself, my apartment is really small and dreary but it works. I’m actually thinking about moving in with Nate. He rooms alone as well, but always has some new girl over. But he is a good guy and I trust him to pay the bills and keep the place respectable.

So there you have it. Life is busy, the schedule is tight and just about every moment of free time that I do have is spent in the weight room or on the field. I’m determined to get the call to the next level, not much time for play.

question: have you had any kind of interactions with your brothers? like are you talking to them at all?

                  Chapter 3.6: Setting a pace

I’ve got to say it is such a relief to be starting. I feel very comfortable out there. Knowing that I’m going to be playing on a consistent basis has relived me of a lot of stress. And you can see it in my game. Three games, three RBI’s.

                  An update on Robert

You can see that Rob has had some ups and downs. Overall I feel like he is doing alright but at the moment he is like a deer in the headlights. I've always felt this is his greatest weakness; when the bright lights are on...well, he shrinks.

No. And before anyone claims that it is because I'm an ***, please wait. Understand that we have our differences and have butted head more then a few times in the past. I understand that we might meet and have to deal with each other in AAA or even MLB one day, but until then I believe it might be best to let everyone worry about themselves.

Question: After watching the movie Bull Durham today, do you guys have an "Annie" following the team? If so who did she pick this year?

Ha! I wish! Sorry to tell you but the only one who gets "picked" by any girl around here is Nate. If our teams has to be compared to a movie then we are a sad cross between Major League and Angels In The Outfield (Disney Version)
