On Cloud 9: Jerome Cloud's Road To The Show (MLB 11 The Show RTTS)

With numerous college scholarships on the table, along with college and pro scouts filling the stands at his high school games throughout his junior year, Jerome Cloud thought he was headed for super-stardom...only to be derailed by what many considered to be a sub-par senior year that sunk his draft status, and a good number of potential college suitors looked elsewhere for young arms to recruit to their pitching mounds. Undeterred Jerome continued to pursue his dream and it paid off with this message...

...the only question that remains is will "Cloud 9" make it to "The Show" and will it be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin? The only way for Jerome to find out is to pack his bags and get to Huntsville, Alabama... the key to being a star is leading the Stars.

04/07 - Jerome Cloud would pitch in his first professional baseball game in the first game of the season for the Huntsville Stars getting the ball in the bottom of the 8th inning in Jacksonville against the Jacksonville Suns, the Double-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins organization. He would allow 2 hits but was able to get out of the inning unscathed, however the Stars would be defeated by the Suns 2-1.

04/09 - Jerome would return to the mound two days later with the Stars leading the Suns 1-0 with a man on 1st in the bottom of the 7th. He allowed 1 hit but managed to get the Suns out of the jam. Huntsville would tack on 2 more runs for the 3-0 victory.

04/11 - Cloud would again take to the mound in Jacksonville in the bottom of the 7th attempting to keep an inherited runner from scoring and maintaining a 5-3 lead for the Stars. He would allow another hit but escaped the inning with the lead still in tact thanks in part to his first professional strikeout. The Stars would go on to win 7-5.

04/13 - Up next was the home opener against the first place Carolina Mudcats, the Cincinnati Reds Double A Affiliate. Jerome entered the game in the top of the 6th with Huntsville trailing 4-1. He allowed another hit but managed another scoreless effort to go with another strikeout in his lone inning of work but the Mudcats held on for the 4-3 win.

04/14 - It's the top of the 5th with two outs and a man on first base of a 2-2 ballgame, and Jerome Cloud is once again given the ball to get Huntsville out of any potential danger, and would only need one pitch to get out of the inning. Cloud came back out to pitch the sixth and allowed two hits but again no harm was done to the scoreboard and Huntsville would pull ahead and win 5-2. This game would also mark Cloud's first professional at bat, however nothing noteworthy came from it.

04/15 - Cloud was called upon again in the top of the 5th but this time the Mudcats had already jumped on the Stars 5-0. Called on for the 3rd day in a row he would not disappoint, pitching his first 1-2-3 inning striking out 2 in the process, but it wasn't enough as Carolina held on for a 5-2 victory.

04/17 - In the final game of the series Jerome was again called upon with the Mudcats leading 6-1 in the top of the 7th. Cloud put the Reds' farmhands down in order with 2 more strikeouts before allowing a hit in the 8th. No further damage was done though but the Mudcats would go on to win by the same 6-1 score.

following the game met with manager to discuss being placed in rotation... response was positive... "I've been impressed with your work out of the pen, but I don't think you're ready yet. You keep working at it, and I'll find a spot for you in the rotation soon."

04/20 - After not being used in the first two games in Chattanooga, Jerome would see his first game action against the Lookouts, Los Angeles Dodgers Double A team, entering a 4-4 game in the bottom of the 6th inning. He would give up a hit in the 6th but strike out 2 batters keeping the score tied. J. Cloud struck out two more in the 7th giving him 4 strikeouts on the day. Huntsville would go on to win 5-4.

04/21 - Huntsville would plate 13 runs in the top of the 6th inning allowing Jerome Cloud to take the mound in the bottom half of the inning with the Stars leading the Lookouts 16-7. Managed 1 strikeout in the 6th and allowed 1 hit and an unearned run in 7th ending his scoreless streak. Huntsville would hold on for the 17-11 victory.

04/23 - After sweeping the Lookouts the Birmingham Barons, Chicago White Sox AA, was next up in a battle of first place teams. With 1 out and 2 on for the Barons, the Huntsville crowd would get to its collective feet as Jerome Cloud entered the game. However this time things would not workout in the Stars favor. Cloud would get the Stars out of their 7th inning trouble, and a 3 up, 3 down 8th but in the 9th inning Birmingham would plate 3 runners, 2 earned and go on to win 6-2 for Cloud's first loss on the season.

spoke with manager again about getting a spot in the rotation... response positive but still not what wanted to hear... "I'm not quite sure you're ready to jump into the starting rotation. Just keeping working at it and you'll be there in no time."

Re: On Cloud 9: Jerome Cloud's Road To The Show (MLB 11 The Show RTTS)

Scheduled to start April 30th against the Mississippi Braves (Atlanta Braves AA)

Prior to this start Jerome Cloud came out of the bullpen on April 25th and 27th against the Birmingham Barons. On the 25th he pitched one inning allowing an unearned run in the 6th inning and got credited with a blown save as the Stars lost to the Barons 6-5. He pitched better on the 27th going the final two innings but the Barons still prevailed over the Stars 2-1.

Cloud went 7 strong innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 3 for his first win in professional baseball.

He would also earn "Player of the Game" honors.

Cloud's next start is expected to be May 5th against the Jacksonville Suns.

Those pictures look great. I'm going to definitely have to go and pick up a copy for my ps2 a week from Friday. Then, of course, I'll restart Mr.Ryan's career.

          Good luck with yours.

Next start got moved up a day to to May 4th, got a no decision after 7 innings of work. Defense making errors is the theme of my time in Huntsville, Alabama... it gets to the point where I have to channel "Steve Nebraska" and just strikeout as many batters as I can... take a look at these boxscores and you tell me I'm lying... and yes I know a couple of the errors were mine, but the other team didn't score when I made my minor mistake(s)... lets just call it a "button" issue.

I got pulled after allowing the Generals to tie the game in the 6th, but I could've easily stayed in the game, I'm sure they are only looking out for my long term success within the organization but I just want to pitch.

I guess I was a little too busy making birthday plans in Chattanooga to really focus. My talent carried me as far as it could carry me in this game. I tried to get coach to let me make my next start on my birthday so I can go out on the town but he refused which had me scrambling to push the celebration back a day, because even though I'm only going to be 19, my new ID says I'm 21, I wonder what DMV made that mistake?

My mom made the trip to Chattanooga to help me celebrate my birthday and stayed an extra day to watch me pitch 7 shutout innings, and strike out 8 batters, but more importantly I went 2 for 3 at the plate, I know the other pitcher was mad when I got that single on what was supposed to be a sacrifice.

The party wasn't much to write home about, ended up at a liquor store and partied in the hotel after seeing how run down the club I reserved was. Sometimes you can't trust the internet. Oh and by the way, this is the second time coach moved my start up a day. I was originally scheduled to pitch on the 31st but low and behold I was on the mound on the 30th. I'll remember this the next time I want to pitch on my birthday, hopefully I'll be in "The Show" by then.

Thanks Hurst... its the strikeouts, they come when I need them the most... I definitely like the fact that they grade you based of each at-bat whether hitting or pitching as opposed to arbitrary goals that you had to hit in previous years... I'm following yours as well, definitely would love to see Canada's greatest CF in MLB 11 or MLB 12, because having free will on the mound is awesome... I hated the fact that in last years game they told me to get a strikeout but the batter would swing at a bad pitch and pop out and it would say I failed, no I didn't fail if I fooled the batter enough for him to pop up.

Anyway thanks again, I'm hoping to get to Triple A pretty soon... I'll eventually up the difficulty...I just want to get to "The Show" first.

Re: On Cloud 9: Jerome Cloud's Road To The Show (MLB 11 The Show RTTS)

History was almost made in Mobile, Alabama tonight when Jerome Cloud took the mound for the Huntsville Stars to take on the Mobile Baybears. With the exception of a leadoff walk in the third inning on a 3-2 pitch Cloud was perfect in keeping the Baybears hitless for 7.1 innings.

He even laid down a nifty bunt in the 7th inning that put two of his teammates in scoring position with both scoring on a double staking him to a 2-0 lead.

However a one out single, wild pitch and double would bring an end to Cloud's night with a 2-1 lead. The bullpen could not get out of the inning with the lead in tact as Marquez committing two errors allowing the tying run to score. The Baybears would then win the game in the bottom of the 13th on Morales' two run home run.

Looks like the Southern League All-Star Game will be happening without Jerome Cloud, who was informed that he would be leaving Huntsville, Alabama for Nashville, Tennessee and joining the Milwaukee Brewers AAA affiliate Sounds of the Pacific Coast League. He will once again come out of the bullpen but is expected to earn a rotation spot once one becomes available.

"Here's hoping I have to miss the Triple A All-Star Game too...knock on wood." - Jerome Cloud, after finding out he was promoted to the Sounds and barring an unlikely return to AA will miss the Southern League All-Star Game on June 21st.

-came on in the 10th and managed to keep the Isotopes from plating the winning run by getting a strike out and a double play after allowing a lead off single. Gave up a lead off single in the 11th followed by a bunt single before getting another double play and a ground out. Removed for pinch hitter in top of 12th. Sounds would eventually plate 5 in the 14th and held on for the win after Albuquerque could only get 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. W 9-6

-came on in the bottom of the 5th with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd. It took all of 2 pitches to get out of the jam, but pitched himself into another jam in the 6th after getting the first two batters out by allowing back to back singles before inducing the next batter into hitting a harmless flyball. Left the game for a pinch hitter in the top of the 7th but there was nothing that could be down by the Sounds offense today. L 7-1

-entered game in the top of the 4th with a runner on 1st. Did the best he could to keep it close but a dropped flyball led to a run scoring in the 5th inning. The Sounds did manage to force extras but the Express got the win with a run in the top of the 10th. L 7-6

-entered in top of 8th with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd. Allowed 2 hits and the inhereted runner scored to tie the game. The Express would go on to defeat the Sounds. L 6-4

Had a conversation with my manager following the game and expressed (no pun intended) my desire to start but was told that he didn't feel I was ready yet and to keep working on improving out of the bullpen.

                            vs Round Rock 06/16/11
-entered game in top of 2nd with 2 on (1st and 3rd) and 2 out. A caught stealing got the Sounds out of the inning. Allowed a single to start the third but then proceeded to strike out the side. A one out double was given up in the 4th but the runner was stranded at third. You could tell Cloud was getting in the groove after striking out the side in the 5th for a 1-2-3 inning before leaving the game. Unfortunately he would have to settle for a no decision after the Express tied the game at 6 in the top of the 6th. Nashville would prevail with a 4-run 8th to pull out the victory. W 11-7
