Re: From Done with Baseball to the MLB Draft? Story of Dan Baker RTTS

Game (May 9th): Vs. Mobile BayBears (Loss 6-3)
    Baker’s Stats: 1/3, 1R, 1RBI, 1 2B
Recap: Well I was involved in two of our three runs. That RBI double was big and then our pitcher was able to drive me in from there. They just hit better than us in this game.
Game (May 10th): Vs. Mobile BayBears (Win 4-3)
    Baker’s Stats: 0/1, 1 Sac Fly, 1 RBI, 1 Sac Bunt
Recap: That Sac fly was about 3 feet away from being a 3 run homer. Not a bad day overall as we beat the First place team.
Game (May 12th): Vs. Mobile BayBears (Loss 6-2)
    Baker’s Stats: 0/4, GIDP
Recap: Was a horrid performance by me in this game. Couldn’t get anything out of the infield and they all were right at people.
Game (May 13th): Vs. Mobile BayBears (Loss 3-2)
    Baker’s Stats: 2/4, 2 2B, 2 K, 2 R
Recap: Well with the good comes the bad. I had our only two runs, had two doubles but I also struck out twice. We ended up going 1-4 against the 1st place BayBears in this series.

Re: From Done with Baseball to the MLB Draft? Story of Dan Baker RTTS

After the game with the BayBears, Joe Thurston called a players only meeting.

"Guys, I know we are having a rough season, but as one of the oldest guys on this team and as one of the few who have made it to the show here is some advice. To get called up a guy has to show them he has what it takes to win ball games. You know the best way to show people you can win ball games? Actually winning ball games!

Look, I know that we have only won seven all year, but if we play like we did in the second game against the BayBears we can win plenty more games! Everyone has to do their part, let's make a big run before the All-Star break. Maybe some guys will get called up and either way maybe we make it into the playoffs!

I'm not too sure whether Joe got through to many of the guys, a bunch of guys were talking about how Joe was washed up and he couldn't hack it in the show. Either way he still made it right? I hope we go on a big run.

Sidenote: To all 2 of my readers. I am now the 2nd worst player in the Florida Organization! No longer the worst on the team!

Re: From Done with Baseball to the MLB Draft? Story of Dan Baker RTTS

Game (May 15th): @ Mississippi Braves (Loss 13-10)
        Baker’s Stats: 1/4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 Sac Fly, 1 E
Recap: My first at bat was my only good one, had a RBI double, and then a sac fly, then I had an Error in Center Field. Not a great day for the team as we blew a 8 run lead and blew a 1 run lead in the bottom of the 9th.

Game (May 16th): @ Mississippi Braves (Win 3-1)
        Baker’s Stats: 3/4, 1 3B, 1 R
Recap: In my first at bat I went deep into the count and was able to line a single between the 3rd baseman and the shortstop. At bat #2 was a rope into center for another base hit. My 3rd at bat was another hit and the left field dove to try and rob it but came up short. I scampered around to 3rd base with a lead off triple! My fourth at bat was not so special as I fouled out to the first baseman. After the game I realized that I had three of the team’s nine hits. Not a bad day.

After the game coach called me into his office,
“You have had a nice showing lately. You’re improving, we recognize it, but your skills are not quite where we need them for us to justify promoting you. We are going to move you from 8th to 7th in the lineup because of your recent performance as a reward.”
With that I was disheartened but realized that I also completed all four of my goals for the second time this year!
Here is what coach gave me for my goals in the next 4 weeks.
“You have been having a lot of errors out there lately, improve your glove work so you stop dropping easy fly balls!”
“You haven’t been making enough solid contact against lefties, get in the cages and work on that.”
“When we traded for you, you already had a homer, a few weeks later and you still only have one homer, show us you can hit another!”
“If I see you drop one more fly ball I might throw a ball at your head, have a fielding percentage of .990 or better, so basically be perfect for the next four weeks!”

Game (May 17th): @ Mississippi Braves (Win 2-1)
        Baker’s Stats: 0/4
Recap: First at bat was ugly and grounded out to third, and the second at bat was a grounder to the second baseman. 3rd at bat was a fisted shot out to the right fielder. My final at bat was a pop up to the pitcher. Not the kind of day that I wanted on my first day in the seven-hole.

Game (May 18th): @ Mississippi Braves (Win 9-6)
        Baker’s Stats: 0-1
Recap: I had the day off and in the 10th inning I was called on to pinch hit…. They told me to bunt! Who sends a guy to pinch hit to bunt! Of course I am not fast enough to beat the bunt out but did it anyways. The coaching decision really confuses me.

With that game we won our first series of the year from the 3rd place Mississippi Braves! Maybe Joe got to the guys after all!

I hope that you don't mind me asking, but what are you using for sliders? Also, ps2 or ps3?

Thanks for following guys, More updates coming today as I found more time to play.

As for the sliders I am just going with the generic sliders for PS3 on the hardest level (can't remember the name of it off the top of my head).

Thanks for the response to my inquiry. I think the level is either HOF or Legend, i'm not that sure.

Here's a quick wrap on how I did to end the Month of May. I heard we are going to get photographers at our games now that we have started to win a few so maybe I'll get some good pictures up soon.

Here is a look at our ugly uniforms, I can't wait to get called up so that they change a little bit.

                        6/15 Game vs Mississippi Braves:
My Recap: First at bat was a four pitch walk. Second at-bat was a fly out to Left Center. 3rd at bat was a lazy ground ball to the first baseman. In my fourth at bat I extended my hit streak to 7 games with a base hit up the middle, from where I was able to steal second despite the coach calling a hit and run and Lopez not swinging.

                        6/16 Game vs Mississippi Braves:
My Recap: I got to leadoff today: First at bat was a fly out to right field but coach said I did a good job making the pitcher throw a lot of pitches! Second at bat was another fly out to right center but coach told me I got good wood on that one, no pun intended. In my third at bat I had an ugly pop up behind the plate. My fourth at bat was a 9 pitch ground out to the third baseman, I thought I had the pitcher figured out but he fooled me with a slider with a full count. My fifth at bat coach told me to lay down a sacrifice bunt and I did so easily, only problem was it ended my hit streak at 7 games. We blew a 2 run lead in the 9th and lost the game.

                        6/17 Game vs Mississippi Braves
My Recap: I got to leadoff again today but I struck out looking on a close call on the corner on a full count. My second at bat was a 3 pitch groundout to the third baseman. 3rd at bat was a 3 pitch strikeout. I just was not seeing the ball well all game and on my next at bat I struck out again. Going 0-4 with 3 K***8217;s is not my idea of a good day at the ballpark.

                        6/18 Game vs. Mississippi Braves
My Recap: Coach kept faith in me after two straight 0fers, I got to leadoff again. Only problem, I struck out in my first at bat again. In my 2nd at bat I at least got the bat on the ball and forced a 9 pitch at bat. In my third at bat I hit a hard ground ball to third but alas was yet another ground out. I grounded into a fielders choice in my 4th at bat but was able to make up for it by stealing 2nd in the bottom of the 8th in a tie ball game, too bad I got stranded on second. In the bottom of the tenth I grounded out to the shortstop. We lost in the 11th. I have gone 0-9 in my last two games.
After the game I found out that I was chosen to represent the Suns in the Southern League All Star game, only problem was I didn***8217;t even get an at-bat in the game . Either way the experience was great, maybe next year I will be in the futures game!

Batting 7th today I flew out in my first at bat with runners in scoring position. 2nd at bat was a pop up to right. Third at bat was yet another fly out this time to center field. So far I have gone through a trifecta and hit to all 3 outfielders. My fourth at bat was a strike out. Overall my slump continues as I am now 0-21 in my last 21 at bats. We lost the game 4-3 and I cant help but feel partially responsible for the loss.

After the game we found out that our captain Joe Thurston got promoted to Triple-A New Orleans and Christian Yelich got called up from Jupiter to take his roster spot.

                            6/24 @ Charleston
Batting 7th again today I extended my hitless streak to 22 at bats with a ground out to third. In my second at bat I finally got a hit! Base hit up the middle so that means I am 1-23 in my last 23 at bats. In my next at bat I drew a 8 pitch walk! It was only my 3rd walk of the year. My fourth at bat I got my hitting turned back around and got another base hit. We won the game 5-3

                            6/25 @ Charleston
Batting 6th today after having a solid day out yesterday! My first at bat was less than stellar with a check swing ground out to second. I committed my 6th error of the season later on in the 3rd inning, lucky for me no one scored as a result of it. My second at bat was a display of warning track power and the Right Fielder was there to make the play. My third at bat was in the 8th inning and I hit a hard liner over the shortstops head, I ran through a stop sign at second when I saw a ball being thrown wide and was able to get into third because of it with 1 out. I got thrown out while tagging on a fly ball in center but coach said it was a play I had to try to make because we had only gotten 4 hits all game. We lost 1 to 0 as they scored in the bottom of the ninth.

                            6/26 @ Charleston
I entered the game due to injury, I got put into Right Field. My first at bat was a 8 pitch strike out, and while I wasn't happy coach told me that I did a good job working the count. My second at bat was a double down the left field line with one out and a man on first. We won the game 3 to 1.
After the game Coach let me know that I succeeded in only two of my four goals and gave me four new goals.

"In the next two weeks we want you to; quit making errors so get out there and do some fielding drills, quit swinging at bad pitches and get in the cages to work on your plate discipline, have a slugging percentage of .337 and have at least 13 Total Bases, if you accomplish these things you may get the call to Triple A."

                            6/27 @ Charleston
Batting 7th again today and my first at bat was a double to the wall in left center. My second at bat was another show of warning track power this time down the right field line and the right fielder was able to get to it. My 3rd at bat was an RBI single to centerfield. My fourth at bat was a 9th inning ground out to short. We won the game 3-2.

                            6/28 vs Birmingham;
Batting Leadoff today, my leadoff at bat turned into a line out to center field. My second at bat was a pop up behind the plate after 6 pitches where the catcher was able to get to the ball before it landed. A strikeout looking was my 3rd at bat and I didn't agree with the umpire on the call and had a few words with him. We ended up winning the game 1-0 with only 1 hit to our name but that is still a win.

                            6/29 vs Birmingham:
Back to batting 7th today, wish I could stick in one spot so that I could get a feel for things! My first at bat was a hard line drive to right field that ended up a base hit. My second at bat again came with two outs and was a base hit up the middle past a diving second baseman. My third at bat and my third single, this time a rope down the 3rd base line. I ended up scoring the go ahead run after that hit. Four at bats and four hits, this time with an RBI to boot. We ended the game with 18 hits, which is 17 more than our total number yesterday and we won the game 6-2.

                            6/30 vs Birmingham:
After a four for four game I am now batting 8th in the lineup. My first at bat was a 6 pitch strike out with a runner on first, not quite the at bat I was hoping for. My second at bat was a ground out to short. My third at bat turned out to be a full count walk, I was able to steal second on another blown hit and run call. We blew the lead in the 8th but were able to sneak out a 4-3 win in the 9th.

                              My Thoughts on June
~I had an up and down month, started off red hot and cooled off right around the All-Star break but finally heated back up at the end of the month.

As of right now we are tied for the second half lead with the Biscuits and wouldn't you know it I'm 6th in the league in doubles with 17 and 3rd in the league with 3 Triples. I'm also tied for 11th in stolen bases with 9.

The Marlins are currently in Normal mode and are trying to make fair trades, this is along with the majority of the other teams in the league, there are no teams giving up on the season yet thus far, so it is unlikely that I get traded anytime soon despite my numbers.

I have been working extra late in the batting cages but this time I am working on hitting from the left side of the plate, I feel it would be in my best interests learning how to hit from both sides of the plate.

Our newly elected captain on the Suns is Ruben Gotay, who has also made the show before, when Joe (Thurston) got called up we lost the veteran presence but I'm sure that Ruben has everything going for him.

I am about a month or two away from passing Jose Duarte and Alex Romero on the depth chart in Center Field especially with Duarte on a cold streak and Romero on the DL.

An interesting note is that all four of our Right Fielders are on cold streaks so maybe it would be a good idea to take a shot at playing in Right soon.

With only one month to go before the trade deadline is up the club is rumored to be looking for a more stable relief pitcher and a all star catcher so that we can compete with the Braves. Right now all I am looking forward to is getting a promotion to New Orleans.

Well I have to get back to the cages, I'll be sure to update you guys soon!

Batting 8th again today hoping that I can continue my hot streak at the bottom of the lineup. My first at bat in the 3rd inning came up empty with a fly out to center. My second at bat as a full count base hit to right field to continue my hit streak. With runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh I hit another single to right to get another RBI on the season and tie the game at 1. We ended up losing the game 4-1.
                                7/2 vs Birmingham
Coach told me he wanted me to get an extra opportunity at the plate today so he moved me up to leadoff. Leading off the game I hit a grounder to the third baseman who threw me out with ease. In the bottom of the second with a 4-0 lead I hit a double to right center. In the bottom of the fifth I hit a line drive off the pitcher that turned into a fielders choice. In the bottom of the 8th I led off the inning with a base hit to left. We won the game 4-1 and got back on the winning side of things.
Note: I have now gotten close enough to be in competition with Jose Duarte in the organization and am now ranked 48/58 of all Center Fielders all day. I actually passed Duarte in Overall later in the day

Batting 7th today and my first at bat was a strikeout on a full count. My second at bat was a grounder that the shortstop had to make a great play on, but he was able to do so. My third at bat was an infield hit that the shortstop almost robbed from me again, dude can play some ball in the hole. My fourth at bat was a nubber back to the pitcher. We lost the game 5-3

Batting 7th again today after a day off, because Jose Duarte was called up from Single A to compete with me so it looks like we will be competing for a spot now. In the top of the second I hit a 2 out triple to left center. In the top of the 3rd with two outs I popped up to the shortstop. In the top of the 6th for my 3rd at bat I got a base hit between the shortstop and third baseman. In the top of the 8th with one out I hit a base hit to left for my 3rd hit of the game. We won the game 6-2
                                7/7 @ Carolina
Batting 6th today with my competition, Duarte batting 8th and playing right field, good to know I get the start over him though. My first at bat was a one pitch line out to left field. In my second at bat I drew a 2 out full count walk. 3rd at bat was an RBI single to left to take the lead with two outs. My fourth at bat was less spectacular with a ground out to the pitcher. We ended up winning the game 2-1

Batting 7th today, my first at bat was a one pitch ground out to the short stop. 2nd at bat was a fly out to the center field warning track at about 390 feet. My 3rd at bat was a ground ball with eyes up the middle for a base hit to extend my hitting streak to 6 games. We won the game 4-3 and are on a roll the second half of the season so far.
                                7/10 vs Montgomery
Batting 6th today, my first at bat was a one pitch ground out to the third baseman but I was able to move the runner to third because it was a slow roller. My second at bat was a line out to center. My 3rd at bat was another line out to center as I just can***8217;t catch a break. My fourth at bat I caught a break and hit one deep to the wall in left center and was able to leg out a triple with no outs. We went on to win the game 7-4 and continue our winning streak.

After the Game coach let me know that I completed all four of my goals for this section. He also gave me a week to complete these goals.
                                ***8220;Quit making errors, we need you to improve your fielding and to have a fielding percentage over .990, we want you to increase your ability to drag bunt down the line but we also want you to hit at least 1 home run in the next week.***8221;

Honestly I thought I was going to get the call, with some injuries happening up at higher levels, but I guess I still need to improve. The season still has time and we are rolling that is all that matters right now.
