    Miracle Mets 2.0

Welcome to the Miracle Mets 2.0 thread.
The name says it all. The Mets need a miracle after 4 consecutive bad seasons where age and salary (and Bernie Madoff) caught up to them. A spark was needed. In 2011 the Mets acquired prospect Zach Wheeler for Carlos Beltran, to possibly replace former ace Johan Santana. As the sun dawns on 2013, the Mets place their hopes on the future...

Sliders: All-Star with negative (for me) modifications.
I'll be trying to keep it as real as possible...

    New York State of Mind...

A couple of goals for both the offense and defense, now that spring training is done (I admit it, I ALWAYS sim it all...):
    Offensive goals:
    1. Work counts, getting progressively deeper in the game. I am terrible at walks, but I should be able to tire out this pitcher if I can take at least two pitches per at-bat. Working with a terrible offensive team (cleanup hitter- Lucas Duda...) this will be a great advantage at the end of a series, if my woeful squad can get into a bullpen quickly.
    2. As stated previously, my offense would probably be just as potent if it used baguettes instead of bats. David Wright is OK-against lefties, John Buck can hit sixth...and my leadoff man is Colin Cowgill. Enough said. With that in mind, having a solid small-ball squad (sac flies, burns etc.) might win a few games.

    "Pitching" and Fielding goals:
    1. Though the Mets have no pitching, we'll try to counter that by having "strong" (i.e. Adequate) middle relief pitching and closing. For any game to slip away at the end would be crushing; I'm hoping for less than 5 blown saves.
    2. Fielding may be the one area where we're competent. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is starting in left field, and the infield is fairly solid. Hopefully the "sparkling" (i.e. Lucky) play at short will save a couple runs, and, most of all, turn some double plays. Here's hoping!

I plan not to promote Travis D'Arnaud the first season; Buck can fill in while D'Arnaud gains the last necessary experience.
Likewise, Noah Snydergaard will start in AA, and STAY there.

      Under the Metstitution...

      Hopeful Opening Day Fielding Schematic:

      C—John Buck. Old, but smart.
1B—Ike Davis. Obviously, this is a video game.
      2B—Daniel Murphy. Seriously.
3B—David Wright. Or until he gets injured.
SS—Ruben Tejada. I say Tejeda, you say Tejada.
      LF—Kirk Niuwe-Newin-Nieuwan. You know.
CF—Colin Cowgill. I've never met a guy named Cowgill.
RF—Lucas "Cleanup" Duda. Duda say whaaa??

P—Depends who can feel their throwing arm the day of.

      Wish me luck.

Just traded for Johan Santana in my M's Franchise (he was 10-5 with a mid 3.00's ERA, and the dude has been legit, going 3-0 pitching 8 IP in 3 of his first 4 starts. Maybe you can deal him for some decent prospects in yours.

Also curious, if you are going to try some real life moves, like trading for EY Jr and dumping Cowgill..

I thought of that... Sadly, this is 2k12 with updated rosters. Thus, no Colin McHugh for whom to trade Eric Young Jr.

As for the Santana angle... You'll see soon enough.

                Game 1 vs. Atlanta

The season opener, with Santana on the mound, was terrible. He ended up allowing 14 hits (14!!!) in only 6 innings of work, yielding to John Rauch, Manny Acosta, and Latroy Hawkins. The hitting was fair—10 hits in total, most by Colin Cowgill and Lucas Duda, and the fielding averaged out well.
Of course, the scoring went like this:
The Braves took a 3-run lead in the top of the seventh. We immediately tied it on back-to-back RBI singles by Wright/Duda. Finally, the Braves won in the tenth (7-6), and Ruben Tejada was stranded on third in the bottom half.
                Latroy Hawkins got the loss.

                Messrs. Replaceable: Nieuwenhuis and Buck—0-10, 8 K's (8 K's!!!!)
Shocker of the Day: Leadoff triple by Cowgill, scored on a forceout by Murphy.
John Buck was excellent behind the plate, and Ruben Tejada worked a full count walk after 9 pitches.

                  10+10 Equals Too Many

Another 10 inning game, surprisingly not draining a pen that will be constantly overworked.
Jonathon Niese gave up only 3 hits through nine innings of work, with 3 strikeouts. The defense was perfect, not allowing a single run through nine innings. However, the offense could only manage two hits in the same span of time (Duda and Cowgill). Niese was removed for a pinch hitter in the ninth, and Ramirez pitched a scorless tenth. Finally, David Wright scored from 2nd on a hit a run—with the winning RBI going to Kirk Nieuwenhuis (previously 0-3 with 2 K's and a GIDP).

                  Mr. Redemption:Kirk Nieuwehuis.
Shocker of the Day: Jonathon Niese pitching 9 innings of 3-hit ball.

Sorry to say, I'm ending this franchise here. I just got 2k13, and will be moving on to that (and Miami). Please check it out.
                        Thank you for your support.
