Yankees Top Astros in Season Opener
Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira knew that it was gone right after it came off the bat. "It felt real good." said Teixeira, who hit the game winning blast in the top of the 15th innings to propel the Yankees to their first win of the season. The young Astros squad featured 12 players making their MLB debut including starter Nick McColgan. McColgan went six strong innings, surrendering 8 hits and 4 runs while striking out 8 batters. The young right hander looked composed on the mound, but had some trouble with the veteran Yankee lineup.
Aaron Bruand and Matt Bless both hit their first home runs of the season, and Josh Stone picked up a triple in the first game of the season to help the Astros compile a strong effort. Aaron Bruand led the offense with 3 RBIs accompanied with RBIs from Josh Sparks and Matt Bless.
The Astros managed to chase Yankees starter CC Sabathia out of the game to start the fourth inning after a four pitch walk to Josh Sparks to start the inning, and was replaced by David Phelps. It was the shortest start of Sabathia's career, as he struggled against the young Astros bats, surrendering 5 runs on 8 hits.

Tokyo, Japan (AP) translated from the original Japanese
Not a good first taste of American baseball for Arai. He went hitless in the opener despite his team going 15 innings and him getting six times at the plate.
Arai also had issues in the field, committing an error.
The only thing that worked for Arai - he stole a base, giving a glimpse of the power-speed combination he has been highly touted for.
Hopefully, things will pick up for him.
Tomorrow, it will be Tsuyoshi Nakamura's turn to take the mound in his first start as an American professional player."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Coach tells Ocho Ocho that if he wants to have these opportunities then he must work at getting faster on the bases

Josiah knows he needs to hit better each game, but hopes the coaches liked his defense/game-calling.Comment

Matt- "Tough loss tonight. Marathon game, those are tough ones to lose. Going deep was nice though, wasn't expecting that. Just wish it had come with a couple of guys on base. Gotta come out tough and try to take the series by winning these next two games."
@IValdy3- "Awful debut. 0-2 and a K... but worst of all, a loss. Got to do better with my next opportunity!"MLB: Minnesota Twins
