When I was 12 I almost caught a foul ball hit by Danny Tartabull, but a guy sitting right behind me reach over my and snagged it right before it hit my glove.

If I could go back in time I would've hit him in the face for stealing my ball, so I can somewhat understand the excitement those fans had, but really it's just Single A and it's just a ball. It's people like this that keep more teams from doing dollar bear nights.

That and dollar beer nights are pretty common in minor league baseball. For a year I lived across the street from the Boise Hawks stadium and my roommate loved dollar beer nights at the games because we could just walk home.

Brinson promoted to Myrtle Beach; Alberto, Grayson to Frisco

Lewis Brinson has been promoted to High-A and Hanser Alberto and Chris Grayson have been promoted to AA Frisco.

2012 first round pick, Lewis Brinson has been promoted to Myrtle Beach after posting a .335 / .405 / .579 line in 186 plate appearances this year while repeating at low-A Hickory. Of particular note is Brinson's reduction in strikeout rate from 38% in 2013 to 24.7% this season. Lewis missed a few weeks in June with a quad injury but in the ten games since he returned he's hit .436 / .500 / 1.026 with two doubles and seven home runs.

Both Hanser and outfielder Chris Grayson were promoted to Frisco last year but both started this year at Myrtle Beach. Alberto particularly struggled at AA last year, but has had a solid start at Myrtle Beach hitting .274 / .304 / .413, his third year spending time in the Carolina League.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans (33-23, 2nd South) vs Lake Elsinore Storm (28-28, 3rd South)

2 grand slams propel Pelicans to blowout victory

Pitching matchup: Myrtle Beach- Victor Payano (4-2, 5.71), Lake Elsinore- Casey Kelly (4-2, 2.59)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, who entered play one game back in the division with the 5th best record in single-A, clobbered the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the San Diego Padres 14-0 behind 2 grand slams and the best pitching performance of the season for lefty-starter Victor Payano, who'd win Player of the Game honors.

The first grand slam came in the first inning, with Myrtle Beach already up 1-0 after a SS Edwin Garcia suicide squeeze. After OF Zach Cone drew a walk to load the bases with 2 away, 20 year old CF Lewis Brinson, the Rangers top-20 outfielding prospect nailed a grand slam in his first Myrtle Beach start. The homer went an estimated 415 feet and gave the Pelicans a 5-0 lead in the first inning of play.

              https://<iframe width="854" height="...reen></iframe>

The fifth inning saw Lake Elsinore go to a lefty-reliever out of the pen, but he wouldn't fare much better than the starter did early on. Catcher, Jorge Alfaro knocked in LF Chris Garia on a double that split the outfielders of the Storm. Chris Garia found himself on 2nd base lead off the inning with a single, then stole second, setting Alfaro up beautifully for the RBI double. Assistant manager Kenny Powers saw an opportunity arise for surprise. With one away, and the lefty pitcher of the Storm paying no attention to Alfaro behind him on 2nd base, Jorge Alfaro broke for third base and it worked as he successfully stole 3rd for the first time since becoming a member of the Ranger's organization. 3B Nick Vickerson would drive in Alfaro one batter later, giving Myrtle Beach it's 7th run. The birds were only halfway done scoring in the game.

With the same lefty in the game for the Storm, and one out, Lewis Brinson took it upon himself to get the action back in control by singling and stealing 2nd base on back-to-back pitches. RF Royce Bolinger singled him in 2 pitches later. With two outs, OF Chris Garia again got things going with a single. After 2B Christopher Bostick walked to load the bases, Catcher/1B/DH David Lyon went bombs away, in grand salami style.

              https://<iframe width="854" height="...reen></iframe>

Royce Bolinger and 1B Preston Beck both added RBIs in the top of the 7th, with Beck's on a double. The two teams would play conservative for the remainder of the game and Myrtle Beach would cruise to victory.

              Pelican Standouts
              C- Jorge Alfaro: 1-3, RBI, 2 R, SB
              SP- Victory Payano: 7.2 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 8 K's
              LF- Chris Garia: 2-4, 2 R
              DH- David Lyon: 1-2, GS
CF- Lewis Brinson: 2-4, GS, SB, 2 R, BB
              1B- Preston Beck: 2-4, RBI

Dude, it's so great watching this. It's funny because I just went to a Rough Riders game in frisco. Really nice park, but I wish the show would out the real A ball teams in.

Yeah, I didn't buy this year's version of THE SHOW because I'm on strike until they put single-A teams in the game.

Did you get to see Joey Gallo hit a bomb for Frisco?

That's a shame, and something rare as Frisco is ready for a playoff appearance, just as Myrtle Beach is. The talent in Frisco is great, and those same great players made up some very talented Myrtle Beach teams as well. I love the Rangers minor league system. Lots of good young talent around the board.

Pitching matchup: Myrtle Beach- Cody Buckel (6-2, 2.80), Lake Elsinore- Zach Eflin (4-6, 6.05)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers won an exciting game last night, in large part thanks to CF Nick Williams and 1B Preston Beck, who both homered.

Cody Buckel started on the mound for the Pelicans on the road, and didn't have his best stuff. Buckel was given a 4-0 lead heading in to the bottom of the 4th inning, after Preston Beck hit a 3-run homer to right in the 1st inning, and LF Chris Garia drove in RF Royce Bolinger for an RBI single in the 2nd inning.

However, the game would change in the 4th and 5th innings. Lake Elsinore would take a 5-4 lead in the two innings, notching 2 hits and 4 walk. The big blow was a Duanel Jones (1B) 3-run HR with two outs. Buckel would leave the game after walking 5 batters and allowing 5 runs, the most he's allowed in his last 4 starts.

With two outs in the top of the 8th, and LF Chris Garia on 2nd base after a steal, 2B Christopher "Boom" Bostick doubled to deep center, tying the game at 5, setting up the Pelicans for the 9th inning excitement.

Top 9: Nick Williams broke the tie with the eventual game winning home run and in the bottom half of the inning, Abel De Los Santos came in and shut the door.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans (35-23) vs Lake Elsinore Storm (28-30)

Myrtle Beach wins game 3 of 4 game set, now tied for 1st place in division

Pitching matchup: Myrtle Beach- Sam Wolff (3-4, 5.80), Lake Elsinore- Joe Ross (5-5, 4.08)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers announced the call-up of lefty-relief pitcher Martire Garcia prior to the start of the ballgame last night. The reliever from Yamasa, Dominican Republic tossed a stretch of 13 consecutive scoreless innings with the Pelicans and finished his 13-game tenure with a 1.37 ERA over 19 2/3 innings. Garcia posted a 1-1 record and also saved a ballgame. The southpaw allowed three runs on 12 hits with nine walks and 22 strikeouts as a Pelican. He joined the Rangers organization as a free agent in the offseason.

Without him, the pitching staff held up just fine, beginning with starter yesterday evening, Sam Wolff. Wolff, who's on a "cold streak" wasn't great, but did get the job done in the victory, falling one out shy of 6 innings pitched.

With two on an one out in the top of the 2nd, CF Nick Williams drove in RF Royce Bolinger who lead off the inning with a walk. The Birds would load up the bases for returning SS Edwin Garcia (down from AA-Frisco), who promptly doubled down the line for 2 RBIs.

Edwin Garcia comes through for the Pelicans against Lake Elsinore last night. Pelican fans may remember him from last season's successful team

The bottom of the third would see the Storm get two runs back, from back to back singles, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of the Pelicans.

The Storm would tie the game in the fourth inning with a lead off solo home run to right, but that's the last scoring they'd do until the 8th.

Catcher Jorge Alfaro and RF Royce Bolinger got back to back RBI singles in the fifth inning, giving Myrtle Beach the lead once again, 5-3.

In the 7th & 8th innings, the Pelicans would seal the deal on the Storm in game 3 of the 4 game set. The Birds of Myrtle Beach would get one run off the bat of Lewis Brinson from a single to right in the 7th, and one run from a Christopher "Boom" Bostick double to right in the 8th. Those runs would be more than enough cushion for Abel De Los Santos, who wrapped up the save for the 2nd night in a row for Myrtle Beach, and the Pelicans are now tied for first in the Carolina League.

MYRTLE BEACH,S.C. - The reason behind Vice President & General Manager Andy Milovich's in-game prostate exam on July 24 came full circle this past Saturday with Coaches vs. Cancer Night. Milovich agreed to the exam if the team could raise Fierce Fallon's Facebook Page to 10,000 'Likes'. Saturday night acted as a fundraiser for Fierce Fallon and featured a mini-football giveaway, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and more with all proceeds benefiting Fallon. All-in-all the night raised over $6,500. The highlight of the night however, came before the anthem was even sung.

Fallon made her grand entrance to the ballpark with family and friends in the back of a pick-up truck as her favorite song, Katy Perry's Roar, boomed throughout the stadium. Once arriving to the home dugout she made her way to the pitcher's mound for a ceremonial first pitch. Moments later, after player introductions, Pelicans starter Chad Bell took his place on the mound and prepared to face the first hitter of the night, Fierce Fallon. One pitch from Bell was all it took as her baseball debut went down in the books as a solo home run and one of the most memorable knocks at TicketReturn.Com Field. She took her victory lap around the bases to a standing ovation and roaring crowd.

A video of Fallon's first pitch and home run can be seen on the Pelicans' YouTube Channel.

Saturday was only the start of the Pelicans' charitable efforts this past weekend. Sunday was Pink in the Park with a focus on breast cancer awareness. The night featured a mini-base giveaway with the words "Save 2nd Base" to the first 1,000 ladies. Additional highlights included a silent auction with pink bats and bases. All proceeds from the auction, 50/50 raffle sales and more benefited the Mary Kay Foundation. That number exceeded $4,000.

Sunday also marked the end of the Pelicans Strike Out Cancer Series. The series featured one night each month, April through August, and highlighted five different forms of cancer (esophageal, skin, testicular, prostate and breast). On each night the team dawned special jerseys which have been up for auction all season at myrtlbeachpelicans.com. The auction includes jerseys worn by Joey Gallo, Jorge Alfaro, Manager Joe Mikulik and more.

Myrtle Beach caps off 4 game sweep of Storm!

Pitching matchup: Myrtle Beach- Chad Bell (1-0, 2.13), Lake Elsinore- Cody Hebner (2-5, 7.52)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the San Diego Padres for the 4th straight night on Saturday night by a score of 6-3.

With Myrtle Beach down 1-0 in the sixth inning after a 2-out RBI single in the forth by Lake Elsinore off of Pelican starter Chad Bell, David Lyon, who was doing the catching for Myrtle Beach, lead off the inning with a double, followed by a Christopher Bostick (2B) walk. 1B for the evening Jorge Alfaro & DH Preston Beck then blooped in back to back RBI knocks to help Myrtle Beach take a 2-1 lead.

Preston Beck, who batted 5th and was the DH Saturday night, drives in one, right after #1 catching prospect Jorge Alfaro, who played 1st in the ballgame

The lead wouldn't last long however, as the Storm got two back off Chad Bell on a 2-out, 2 RBI double to left. 3-2 Storm.

Things were looking bleak for MB with two outs in the 8th inning, with Chris Bostick on 1st. Lake Elsinore decided it was time to pull the plug on their starter, and went to Tony Rizzotti, a right handed relief pitcher. Rizzotti immediately came in and gave up a single to right to DH Preston Beck. Then, with 2 on and 2 out, down 1 run, short stop Edwin Garcia put a jolt in to one for a 375 ft home run that would eventually be the game-winner.
