    PLAYOFF UPDATE

(All records are from Sept 25th with 4 games left in the season)

The Washington Nationals (88-70) have taken over 1st place in the the NL East as they are currently riding a 13 game winning streak with their last loss back on Sept 7th. Now with 4 games left in the season, they have a 2 game lead on the Atlanta Braves (86-78) who had lost 6 in a row before winning their past 3.

The NL East is the only division in which a winner has yet to be crowned.

The Toronto Blue Jays (91-69), Kansas City Royals (84-74), Seattle Mariners (97-61), Cincinnati Reds (90-68), and Colorado Rockies (95-64) have all clinched their divisions.

With the Nat's taking over the East from the Braves, the N.L. Wild Card, has gotten even more crazy..

Currently the L.A. Dodgers (88-71) hold on to the #1 spot well the Braves are tied with the San Diego Padres (86-72), with the St Louis Cardinals a 0.5 GB at (86-73)

The A.L. Wild Card however is very much less drama filled. The Baltimore Orioles (85-73) have looked to staked claim on the #1 spot with a 4 game lead on the Texas Rangers (81-77)

The New York Yankees are the surprise team here, as they have won 4 straight and 8 of their past 10 games to pull to .500 at (79-79) and are currently 2 games back of the Rangers for the #2 spot, but it's very unlikely that Texas will drop 3 of their next 4 games at Oakland combined with the Yankees sweeping the Red Sox to end the year.

      M'S GET #98!!!

      Game Recap

The M's score 4 runs in the first spotting starting pitcher B. Maurer a nice cushion and add 1 more in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th to make a 7-1 ball game.

Maurer finally ran into trouble in the 5th as he gives up 4 runs without registering an out. Danny Farquhar comes in and shuts down the rally as he strikes out 2. Farquhar pitches a scoreless 7th as well before turning the ball over to James Russell who closes out the game with to scoreless IP of relief himself.

At the Plate, Seattle's Corey Hart hits Homerun #49 (3-run shot) well J. Willingham (2-run) and K. Seager (solo shot) also go yard. Seager would finish the day going 3/4 with 2 runs scored.

      R. Cano also went 3/4 with 2 RBI and has raised his season BA to .276

        M'S WIN #99!!!

When the Seattle Mariners signed Corey Hart to a 1 year deal worth 5 million and another 8 incentive, fans and ownership hoped they would get the Corey Hart that hit .283 with 31 HR and 102 RBI's in 2011, or at least the C. Hart of 2007/2008 when he averaged 22 HR's 86 RBI's and 23 RBI's over 2 seasons.

Instead they got a Corey Hart who has never been seen before. In the 10th inning, Corey Hart hit his 50th Homerun of the season, joining a club that only has 27 other members. With just 1 game left in the regular season, Hart looks to have secured the A.L. MVP. Along with 50 HR's, he has a MLB best 143 RBI's and a .285 BA/.342 OBP and /.575 SLG% in 628 AB's.

        Game Recap

Well #50 is great and amazing, the fact it was in walk off fashion to give the M's their 99th win of the season makes it even that more special.

Jeff Niemann went toe to toe with J. Weaver as both pitchers go 8 IP giving up 1 run and both striking out 6.

Tied 1-1 going into the 10th, Hart connects off F. Salas for the game winner.

        D. Leone picks up his 3rd "W" of the season (3-0) as he pitches the 9th and 10th for the M's.

          100 OR NOT?

With win #100 on the line and the entire regular season rotation rested, GM "The Deuce" and Manager L. "Mac" McClendon passed up on using 22 game winner and eventual CY Young winner Felix "The King" Hernandez, 17 game winner Chris Young, and even 10 game winners H. Iwakuma and Rookie James Paxton, to run 21 yr old Rookie Taijuan Walker out to the mound looking for his 9th win of the season.

Now before you start to think Deuce and Mac have lost their minds, you must know that in 13 starts prior to the game, Walker had pitched 10 quality and was holding opposing batters to a .256 BA well posting a ERA in the low 3's.

          Deuce
"I know it's alot to put on a rookie, but T. Walker isn't your ordinary rookie. He was our 1st Round pick in 2010. Our #1 prospect for the last 2 seasons, he came into 2014 as the #8 Overall prospect in the minors and the #1 RHP SP. Going into this season, our hopes were that Walker could be our #3, obviously Chris Young's career year has allowed us to use him as a #4, but we believe with the opportunity Ty can and will be our #2 next season and giving him a chance to win this game is our way of showing our support of him"

          Game Recap (*Played*)

If you want to take the pressure off a rookie pitcher trying to win a the 100th game of the season for a Franchise who has only done it 1 other time, then the best way to do that is to score runs early and that's just what the M's did..

James Jones led off the game with a single, followed by D. Ackley doing the same. With runners on 1st and 3rd, R. Cano stepped to the plate and hit his 27th Homerun of the season to give the M's a 3-0 lead. But the M's were not done. After C. Hart hit a fly to center for the 1st out, Kyle Seager stepped up and hit his 28th HR to make it 4-0.

On the Mound, Walker would be dominating through 5 IP giving up just 4 hits well striking out 5. Finally in the 6th the Angels would score an run to make it 4-1. Walker would finish the 6th as well as the 7th and 8th as without any other issues leaving the game with the 4 run lead.

With the non-save situation in effect, Danny Farquhar came in to start the 9th but quickly gave up 2 runs making it (5-3). Now with the game on the line, it was time for the "Arrow".

          F. Rodney picked up his last save 11 days ago vs the Angels in a 5-4 win on the road. Tonight he got #48 for the year as he comes in and closes out the game as the M's win........

100 wins! Congrats. I never would've thought someone could make the M's win 100 in year 1 this year. Of course, Corey Bart has played a big role. Imagine if he produced those numbers IRL! Damn.

Yeah I had some big years from guy's. Felix-22 wins MLB best ERA. C. Young 17 wins, Iwakuma/Paxton 10 wins, and Walker 9-4 with a low 3 ERA made for a great rotation.

The Bullpen was great just like in real life with Rodney getting 48 saves and yes Corey Hart was huge..

I could only wish Hart could've put these type of #'s in real life. Even half of them (25 dingers 70 ish RBI's) would've been great.

Now the big question for me will be what kind of contract to offer Hart next year. Obviously coming off a MVP season means big time money.

However at 33 with past injury concerns, I am having a hard time thinking of a contract. 5 year's 100 million just seems like alot but being how Beltran got 3 years 45 mil from the Yankees, I would think that's what it's going to take.

                IT'S 1 OR DONE TIME!

Fan's of the MLB Playoffs got a taste of what October will be like as the last few days of September had that playoff vibe.

The NL W.C. came down to the wire as the San Diego Padres (88-75) had to square off against the Atlanta Braves (88-75) for the #2 W.C. spot for the right to play yet another 1 and Done vs the L.A. Dodgers (89-73).

The Padres took the game 6-3 and will take on the Dodgers for the right to play the Rockies. Making it a NL West Showdown

The Padres will send I. Kennedy (15-8, 3.05 ERA) to the mound in a 1 game do or die matchup against N.L. CY Young winner C. Kershaw (18-6, 2.32 ERA)

The winner will then move on to face the Colorado Rockies who won the NL West with a (97-65) record.

On the other side of the bracket it will be the Washington Nationals (90-72) vs the Cincinnati Reds (92-70)

On the American League side it will be Baltimore (86-72) taking on the Cleveland Indians (84-80) in the WC with the winner moving on to face the Seattle Mariners (100-62)

The Indians won their last 5 games to over take the Rangers and Yankees who both finish (82-81) well Boston and Oakland both finish (80-82) making it a very tight AL WC race.

The O's will send C. Tillman (8-13, 3.78 ERA) to the mound to face J. Masterson (14-12, 3.42 ERA) in the winner moves on 1 game sudden death with the winner taking on Seattle in the next round.

On the opposite side of the bracket the Toronto Blue Jays (93-69) will take on the Kansas City Royals (86-76)

I posted a thread in the main part of the MLB forums looking for answers but maybe someone who follows this thread knows the answer.

I currently have my backup C G. Laird and backup OF S. Van Slyke hurt, however the CPU won't let me replace them on the playoff roster. I have tried going to injuries and removing them from the D.L. and I still can't replace them. With the on the D.L. I just keep getting the same response from anyone I try to add that the said player must be on the roster as of Sept 1st.

Any help would be appreciated, I really don't want to start playing the playoffs with just 2 players on my bench and a 12 man pitching staff.

Good luck in the playoffs, shame the Yankees could finish the climb into the Wild Card. Tough, and odd, situation with the roster hiccup. Hopefully you can find a way to work that out.

Thanks. In real life a team would get the commish's approval to trade out a injured player for anyone in the organization as of August 31st. The game however doesn't understand this.

So far the only thing I have found is if I go back to before I play the Angels series I have found that I can change the rosters before the post season officially starts but this means stat's and teams that make the WC change.

I am working on simming to get the same results but so far I havn't had much luck

Okay so to be able to change my playoff roster I had to go back and replay the last series of the season. I simmed until I got the sweep, however 2 major things changed.

                          1) The teams that made the W.C. game, so the above post on the playoffs has been edited to reflect the new teams. Congrats Indian and Padre fans you are the winners. Now can your teams advance or will the Dodgers and O's move on.

                          2) Corey Hart doesn't end up hitting 50 HR's. He ends up with 48. Sorry Corey this just hurt your contract come this offseason.

I work tomorrow and then I am going to go look at a couple houses as my wife and I are searching for a new home.. However I have Thursday off, so expect the playoffs to start then. If I get time I will post the Wild Card results tomorrow night after we get home.

                                Good luck house hunting.
