      Series #33:

      (45-63) vs.
      (50-57)

Game 1: All five runs scored today came in the first inning, with Chase Utley and Ryan Zimmerman both hitting homers for their respective teams. Both Jonathan Pettibone and Jordan Zimmermann settled down nicely, but Zimmerman was able to pick up the victory.

Game 2:Kyle Kendrick was fantastic today, earning the victory to even the series at one. Kendrick threw seven innings, giving up just one run on six hits and fanning six. John Mayberry is heating up, going 2/3 with both RBI and a double. Ernesto Frieri earned his first save in Philly, forcing the only batter he faced into a soft grounder to first.

Game 3: Congatulations to Chase Utley, baseballs newest member of the 1500 hit club. That was the only thing worth cheering about, however. Cole Hamels was hit hard, allowing 13 baserunners in just five innings. Travis Snider added a three run homer for Philly in his first start.

Game 4: It took 140 pitches, but Stephen Strasburg worked a complete game shutout to earn a 3-1 series win for the Nationals. Stras allowed just four hits and walked four, but the Phillies couldn't move the runners they got on anywhere dangerous. Cliff Lee pitched well, but made two costly mistakes that landed in the seats.

          Series #34:

          (48-64) vs.
          (46-66)

Game 1: Jesse Biddle turned some heads in his major league debut, but ended up with a no decision after an Antonio Bastardo implosion. Biddle allowed three runs and eight runners in 6.2 innings, striking out six Astros. The rookie added a double in his only at bat and scored a run.

Game 2: In a battle of terrible records, both Colin McCugh and Jon Pettibone ended up with no decisions in this close game. Maikel Franco hit a two run shot in the bottom of the first and finished with all three Phillie RBI. It wasn't enough, however, as Dexter Fowler singled in Jose Altuve in the top of the ninth for the game winning hit.

Game 3: The Phillies exploded for four runs in the second inning today, ending their four game losing streak and avoiding a sweep. Kyle Kendrick threw well, earning a quality start in seven innings. Carlos Ruiz found some of his lost power today, going 3/4 with a big 8th inning home run to give the Phillies some breathing room.

            Series #35:

            (43-72) vs.
            (47-68)

Game 1: Casey Kotchman ripped a double in the bottom of the eighth to win this one for the Phillies. Ben Revere entered the game as a pinch runner, promptly stole second and was able to score as a result. Cole Hamels threw great, striking out eight Mets and almost going the distance.

Game 2: The floodgates opened today, as Philadelphia collected 16 hits on the day. Marlon Byrd ripped three doubles and drove in four to lead the way. Cliff Lee looked like a different man, collecting double digit strikeouts and earning the victory.

Game 3: Jesse Biddle earned his first Major League victory, and fellow rookie Maikel Franco crushed two home runs to deep left-center. Biddle struck out only one, but held the Mets to just three hits.

Game 4: Matt Harvey ruins all the fun. Thanks to Harvey, the Mets avoided a four game sweep and improved their record to a sultry 44-75. Ike Davis added a homer and drove in three, while fellow slugger Lucas Duda also homered. Roger Cedeno extended his hitting streak to nine games thanks to a 9th inning bloop single to right.

Been a diehard Phillies fan for nearly 40 years, and normally my dynasty choice would be a no brainer, but you're doing such an awesome job here that I don't see the point of telling the same story LOL. There are 14 other NL clubs to choose from, each with their own stories to tell. Continued good luck with this, I'm definitely following.

Thanks for the follow and kind words. Even though you've already started your Padres one, I claim no monopoly on the Phillies. A different perspective on the team would be a great follow.

                  Series #36:

                  (50-69) vs.
                  (57-61)

Game 1: The Angel bats were too much to handle in the first game of this short series. Mike Trout reached base five times, going 3/3 with a double and two walks. Albert Pujols launched a big home run to dead center, showing he isn't slowing down anytime soon. Former Phillie Jonathan Papelbon earned save number 28 on the season, mowing the Phils down in order. Freddy Galvis had to leave the game after dislocating his ankle trying to stretch a double into a three bagger. His season is likely over, and second base prospect Cesar Hernandez will get his first call up of the year.

Game 2: The Phillies exploded for seven runs in the ninth inning, turning what was once a 5-1 deficit into an 11-5 victory. Jonathan Papelbon blew the save this time allowing three runs in just a third of an inning. Darin Ruf hit two 2 run shots and Chase Utley hit a pinch hit double in the ninth to drive in the game winning run. This was the third blown save for Papelbon since joining the Angels two weeks ago. Dominic Brown has started a rehab assignment in AAA Lehigh Valley and could join the team next week.

The Blue Jays are comfortably leading the AL East at the moment at 69-55, four games up on the Orioles. They lead the league in home runs (164), slugging % (.431), saves (42).

James Shields has been a big pick up for the rotation, and his record combined from both KC and TOR is 14-6, 3.71 ERA and 141 strikeouts. Drew Hutchison has been a nice surprise and is 13-5, 3.87 and 169K. Mark Buehrle won't die, and somehow has an ERA under three in the AL East. Casey Janssen has 39 saves on the season.

Sadly, Jose Bautista is out for the season but managed to add 26 home runs before tearing his MCL. Some of the offensive contributors are below:

                      Jose Reyes: .284/.359/.430, 29 steals, 10 HR, 34 RBI
                      Edwin Encarnacion: .267/.346/.497, 29 HR, 72 RBI
                      Adam Lind: .293/.346/.514, 22 HR, 70 RBI
                      Colby Rasmus: .249/.331/.458, 19 HR, 57 RBI
                      Melky Cabrera: .236/.296/.360, 9 HR, 35 RBI, 7 Steals

                          Series #37:

                          (51-70) vs.
                          (63-58)

Game 1: The Giants jumped all over Cliff Lee, leading to the veterans 15th loss of the season. Pablo Sandoval led the way with two home runs and five RBI, and San Francisco finished the game with 18 hits. The Phillies also hit well, but only scored four runs despite launching three homers of their own.

Game 2: Chase Utley drove in four, Carlos Ruiz three and Marlon Byrd and Darin Ruf added home runs to help the Phillies coast 13-7. Tim Lincecum didn't get out of the third inning, and while Jesse Biddle struggled, he did enough to earn his second career win.

Game 3: The Phillies were able to stave off a ninth inning rally, hanging on to take the series with a 4-3 win. Jonathan Pettibone improved to 3-9 on the year with a great performance, allowing seven hits in as many scoreless innings. Ernesto Frieri was shaky, but earned save number 37 on the year.

                              (70-53) vs.
                              (53-71)

Game 1: Taijuan Walker held the Phillies in check to open the series, earning his 10th victory of the year. The Mariners were able to chip away at Kyle Kendrick, and former Phillie Jimmy Rollins blasted a big two run homer in the fifth.

Game 2: This one is on manager Ryne Sandberg, who left Cole Hamels in the game a bit too long. Hamels was on pace for a decent outing, but after his pitch count crossed 90, completely fell apart. Five different Mariners drove at least a run in, and Kyle Seager had four hits and need just a home run to complete the cycle. James Paxton threw eight very strong innings to pick up a win.

Game 3: Seattle had to feel confident in a sweep going into the final game of the series. With a struggling Cliff Lee facing a possible Cy Young finalist, most fans probably threw in the towel before the first pitch. To many peoples surprise, Hernandez wasn't himself and Cliff Lee countered with a very good outing. Lee allowed just one run in 6.2 innings, but still has his ERA on the year above five. The Phillies woke up in the 6th, stringing together a few hits to take a 4-0 lead. Pinch hitter Travis Snider put the game out of reach in the 8th after crushing a meatball deep to center.
