MARCH 29-31: ARIZONA (5-2) @ COLORADO (1-5)
March 29: DBacks 8, Rockies 5
March 30: DBacks 10, Rockies 7
March 31: DBacks 4, Rockies 2
The DBacks finished off their season opening road trip with a three game sweep of the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field to run their winning streak to five games.
The DBacks grabbed the opened in Denver 8-5 behind an 11-hit attack. Homer Bailey picked up his first win as a DBack, working five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.
Bailey also helped his cause with a two-run single in the fourth that gave Arizona a 3-0 lead.
Curt Suzuki and Ryan McMahon each homered for Colorado in the fifth to tie the ballgame. But Arizona immediately retook the lead when Nick Ahmed homered to center in the top of the sixth inning.
David Peralta broke out of his mini slump to open the season with a double in the seventh and ninth innings. The DBacks would add a couple of insurance runs in the seventh and they would need them. In the eighth, Charlie Blackmon hit a two-run bomb off of Chaz Rowe to cut the lead to 6-5.
But this Arizona offense responded again with two big runs in the top of the ninth. David Peralta doubled hope Daulton Varsho, and Eduardo Escobar doubled home Peralta to give Arizona a three run cushion.
Archie Bradley would lock down the save, his second with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Tuesday evening was a typical Coors Field slugfest with the DBacks hanging on for a 10-7 victory. The teams combined for 31 hits and eight home runs in the three hour and 56 minute nine inning ballgame.
Eduardo Escobar and Nick Ahmed each went deep twice with Christian Walker also hitting a home run for the DBacks.
Zac Gallen picked up his first win of the season, tossing 6 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two. He also went 3 for 3 with two RBI at the plate.
Kyle Freeland got lit up in his 2021 debut, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in just four innings for the Rockies.
The bullpen continues to be a problem early on in 2021. This time it was Stefan Crichton getting lit up. He allowed three runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning and forced manager Torey Lovullo to bring in Archie Bradley for the one out save. Chaz Roe (9.00), Hector Rondon (12.27) and Stefan Crichton (18.00) have had a rough opening week out of the pen.
The finale saw Luke Weaver out battle German Marquez in what amounted to a pitchers duel at Coors Field with only six runs scored.
David Peralta homered in the first and then tripled later in the game to raise his average up to .192. He is hoping that today may start to lift him out of his slow start.
Carson Kelly hit a two-run home run in the second inning that proved to be the game winner. Ketel Marte added an RBI single in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Nolan Arenado, off to an awful start at the plate, homered and added a sacrifice fly, accounting for all of Colorado’s runs in the ball game.
Junior Guerra tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Archie Bradley worked a perfect ninth to pick up his fourth save of the road trip.
Arizona (5-2) will have Thursday off before returning to Chase Field for the home opener on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Eduardo Escobar and the DBacks are in first place.
