Boakai Clement scored a career-high 26 points and hit eight three-pointers to lead No. 7 West Virginia to a 104-79 victory over Rhode Island in the quarterfinal round of the Palm Tree Shootout this evening in Tampa, FL.

Losing four starters to the draft didn't seem to affect the Mountaineers (1-0) much offensively. They were unconscious from beyond the arc, where they shot 19/41 (46%). They also shot 54% (37/69) from the field overall.

Charles Rickert added a career-high 25 points on 10/17 shooting from off the bench for West Virginia (1-0). Felipe Delgado added 14 points and a career-best six steals and Shannon Edwards contributed 11 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, just missing out on a double-double. Nik Buscher also fell one rebound short of a double-double as he totaled 16 points and nine boards on an efficient 6/9 from the field.

Senior forward Altron Brock scored 19 points to lead Rhode Island (1-1) in scoring. Fellow senior Diego Hehn tallied a 14-point, 10-assist double-double and Dayshawn Nicholson scored 12 points, but went 0/6 from beyond the arc. Godwin Zavackas added 10 points from off the bench.

As a team, Rhode Island shot 47% (32/68) from the field, but just 30% (6/20) from three-point range.

West Virginia will face South Carolina tomorrow in the Palm Tree Shootout Semifinals. The Gamecocks defeated Chattanooga 86-51 in the quarterfinal round today. The winner of tomorrow's game will face either Northeastern or Miami (FL) in the Palm Tree Shootout Championship Game on November 12th.

it's been a while bro! Finally caught up again. Devastating to lose in the Natty like that, but it was one hell of a run nonetheless. Great season bruh and nice job snagging that beautiful recruiting class.

Nik Buscher and Shannon Edwards combined for 51 points and 31 rebounds as the "Twin Towers" led No. 7 West Virginia to a dominating 95-67 victory over Miami (FL) (2-1) in the Palm Tree Shootout Championship Game this evening in Tampa, FL.

Buscher tied a career-high in scoring with 32 points and added 16 rebounds. Edwards scored 19 points to go along with a career-high 15 rebounds and four steals. Charles Rickert also had himself a nice game with 15 points and Eliz Pocius added 12 points.

Todor Montgomery scored 19 points to lead the Hurricanes in scoring. Junior Bermudez added 13 points and Buzz Valavicius scored 10 points from off the bench.

West Virginia (3-0) outrebounded Miami (FL) 46-22 as Nik Busher and Shannon Edwards dominated the glass for West Virginia. The Mountaineers shot just 26% (7/27) from three-point range, but shot 63% from inside the two-point arc and 50% (39/78) from the field overall.

"We played really well tonight, and I am really liking our physicality on the glass so far this year," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "That's something we have really improved on this year. Shannon [Edwards] gives us more rebounding in the starting lineup, and Nik [Buscher] has only improved on his [rebounding] prowess from last year."

Next up for West Virginia is their home-opener against Binghamton on November 21st.

Fresh on the heels of a fairly dominating performance over then-No. 10 Georgia Tech last week in Morgantown, No. 5 West Virginia (6-0) narrowly escaped an upset this evening in Philadelphia, PA as they outlasted the La Salle Explorers 75-73.

The Explorers (3-6) had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but Homer Del Rosario missed a corner three-pointer off the side of the iron and the Explorers fell by two points to the No. 5 team in the land.

Del Rosario scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Explorers. Varney Worthington scored a team-high 24 points.

West Virginia shot a season-low 38% (25/65) from the floor and only won the rebounding battle 32-31.

La Salle threw a lot of double-teams at Nik Buscher and Shannon Edwards and limited their ability to do damage. This allowed the Mountaineers to get open looks from deep, but even shooting 39% (12/31) from three-point range wasn't enough to allow them to pull away. West Virginia shot just 38% (13/34) from inside the arc.

"This was a tricky game for us," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "We've played well this year, but we didn't bring our A-game tonight, and that won't go over well when you're playing on the road in a hostile environment. We'll take the win, but we'll certainly need to play better when we face better competition."

Nik Buscher scored 12 points to go along with nine rebounds, five assists, and a career-high seven blocks. West Virginia blocked a season-high 12 shots as a team. Shannon Edwards added 11 points, six rebounds, and four blocks and Felipe Delgado added 12 points. Eliz Pocius also tallied 14 points and four steals.

West Virginia will host Tennessee on Thursday evening.
