Princeton Downs Brown in Close Affair

    2/15 @ Brown

    Final: 68-58

The Princeton Tigers faced off against the Ivy League's #2 team, the Brown Bears, and had their first close conference game of the season. Brown made life difficult all game long and held Princeton to just 26 first-half points as Princeton held a four point advantage at the break. Princeton would eventually pull away a bit in the second half before Brown came back to get within 10 points, but Princeton would come away with a solid 10 point road win to pretty much seal up the Ivy League Championship, barring some shocking upsets. Coach Frizzell beamed, "We didn't play great out there today and we definitely missed Swift's post presence. Our offense was a bit stagnant at times and we just didn't look all that good. I hope this shows our guys that we are capable of losing a conference game, so we can't let our guard down in the future." Brand new starter Timon Michaud, filling in for the injured Cassiand Swift, led the team with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, C.J. Harrington had one of his better games with 9 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Wendell Lalugba struggled shooting from the perimeter where he was only 2-9, but still managed 15 points and 6 rebounds while Cedric Tchana ended with 12 points and 4 assists.

    Princeton is now 21-4 (7-0).

Strong Second Half Propels Princeton Past Cornell

    2/16 @ Cornell

    Final: 79-52

The Princeton Tigers had their hands full early in this one as the Big Red surprisingly jumped out to an early lead and held onto it for most of the first half, going up by 10 at one point. However, Princeton would claw back into it by the end of the half and would hold a 35-33 lead at halftime. Coach Frizzell would say something at halftime to get the team fired up, though, as the Tigers were absolutely on fire in the second half, outscoring the Big Red 44-19 and ending up with a 27 point blowout win. "I just told the guys to play Princeton basketball; that's all," responded Coach Frizzell when asked what he said at halftime. "We just executed there in the second half and that's all we need to do." Princeton only sported one player in double-figures in this one and that someone was who else but Wendell Lalugba. Lalugba had a stellar game, draining six shots from beyond the arc and ending with 26 points. Reynold Gross assisted quite a few of those shots as he ended with 9 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Kirby Guzman got into the action off the bench as the freshman tallied 8 points and a career-high 7 rebounds.

    Princeton is now 22-4 (8-0).

Meanwhile, Wisconsin-Milwaukee (22-1) continues to strangely not be #1. The top four teams in the mid-major poll are also ranked in the AP Poll.

      Tigers Maul Lions

      2/22 vs. Columbia

      Final: 74-58

Princeton tallied their ninth win in a row today as the Tigers knocked off the Lions at Jadwin Gym by a final score of 74-58. "We didn't play too great, but we played good enough to come away with a solid 'W'," stated Coach Frizzell. Cedric Tchana bounced back from a few bad games to lead the team with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Reynold Gross ran the point efficiently, as usual, as he ended with 13 points and 4 assists while Wendell Lalugba scored 13 points and collected 8 rebounds. C.J. Harrington is taking advantage of Cassiand Swift's injury as the freshman tallied 10 points and 9 rebounds while Timon Michaud ended with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

      Princeton is now 23-4 (9-0).

      Princeton Blows Away Yale

      2/23 vs. Yale

      Final: 95-45

After struggling a bit in their last few ballgames following Cassiand Swift's injury, the Princeton Tigers bounced back in a huge way today, taking down the Yale Bulldogs by a whopping 50 points. "We just came out and did our thing today. There's not much to be disappointed about," beamed Coach Frizzell about his team's impressive performance. Wendell Lalugba (16 points, 3 rebounds) led the team in scoring while Reynold Gross used his defensive prowess to tally 4 steals to go along with 14 points and 5 assists. Cedric Tchana patrolled the backcourt with Gross and ended with 10 points and 3 rebounds while Timon Michaud (9 points, 10 rebounds) also had a solid game down in the low post. Benjamin McBridle (10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds) and Marin Collins (13 points) came off the bench to deliver solid contributions, as well.

      Princeton is now 24-4 (10-0).

Tigers Take Down Cornell to Win Eleventh Straight

      3/1 vs. Cornell

      Final: 65-55

"We didn't play very well in this one. We just had a poor shooting night (40%) from the field and the foul line (9-18 FT), but luckily we played our normal strong defense and that allowed us to come away with a 10 point victory anyways," stated Coach Frizzell about his team's performance against the Cornell Big Red. Princeton found itself in quite a battle in the final minutes of the game, but like most good teams do, they pulled away at the end for the victory. Senior point guard Reynold Gross was great as he led the team with 19 points as well as 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Wendell Lalugba was no slouch either as he ended with 16 points and 7 rebounds while C.J. Harrington had a nice game down low, ending with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists.

      Princeton is now 25-4 (11-0).

Princeton Clinches Ivy League, Comes Back to Beat Brown

        3/2 vs. Brown

        Final: 71-52

"It's really a great feeling to win it again. I know people may think that it's nothing special to us to win the conference considering we've won it five years in a row, but there's still a special feeling in it each and every time and I'll cherish it in my heart no matter how many times we win it. Each one means a lot to our players and I," beamed Coach Frizzell after his team mounted a comeback after being down as much as 28-14 in the first half before his team got in gear. The Tigers grabbed a 31-30 halftime lead after going on a startling 15-0 run to get back and clobbered Brown in the second half to clinch yet another Ivy League Conference Title. The Tigers couldn't do it with a rare contribution from Marin Collins off the bench. The junior backup point guard came off the bench to hit clutch shots as he ended with 17 points and hit two three-pointers. C.J. Harrington also had a nice game as he scored 12 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and tallied 3 assists and 3 steals. "This is senior night for the seniors, so it's special in that they won their final home game in front of our great home crowd and they won the conference in the process," said Coach Frizzell.

        Princeton is now 26-4 (12-0).

Cassiand Swift Expected to Play Against Harvard

Cassiand Swift's strained Archilles is now fully healed and he's expected to be back in Princeton's next game against the Harvard Crimson. He'll also play in the final game against Dartmouth.

"It's really nice that he got fully healed before the NCAA Tournament," stated Coach Frizzell. "This will help him get back in the swing of things before we get to do-or-die games of the Big Dance."

        Top 25 News

For the first time in Coach Frizzell's tenure, the Princeton Tigers have made an appearance in the AP Poll as the Tigers barely sneak in at #25 this week. The Tigers still remain unranked in the Coaches' Poll, but also moved up to #4 in the mid-major poll following the wins against Brown and Cornell.

Princeton Comes Back to Beat Harvard

        3/8 @ Harvard

        Final: 84-66

"I don't know if we didn't care or what early on, but that was ridiculous how poorly we played in the first half against a sub-.500 team in Harvard. Luckily, we got our act together in the second half and pulled away after being down 40-36 at halftime," said Coach Frizzell in a post-game interview about his team's not-so-impressive performance. Still, the Tigers move on to 13-0 in conference play and will have a chance to move on to a perfect 14-0 record next week, which could mark the first time the Tigers have gone undefeated in Ivy League Conference play in the Frizzell era. The Tigers have went 13-1 in conference for the past two seasons. Wendell Lalugba (25 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals) and Cassiand Swift (21 points, 11 rebounds) were ultimately the difference makers in this one as both stepped up in the second half to help deliver the punishing the blow. "It's really great to be back out on the floor and helping out the team," stated Swift about his performance.

        Princeton is now 27-4 (13-0).

Princeton Wins Slugfest to Finish Off Perfect Ivy League Season

        3/9 @ Dartmouth

        Final: 56-30

It was ugly, but it gone done. The Princeton Tigers shot under 35% from the floor, but Dartmouth didn't even crack 20% shooting as the Tigers just won an all-out slugfest against Dartmouth in this one. "This wasn't one of our better games offensively, but we played great defensively. I'll take a 26 point win anytime," stated Coach Frizzell as he exited the gym. The Princeton Tigers are now 14-0 in the Ivy League and have finally gotten that undefeated conference season after coming so close the last two seasons. There weren't a whole lot of impressive performances in this one, but Marin Collins came off the bench to get 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists while Timon Michaud joined him with 9 points and 3 boards. Cassiand Swift only managed 9 points and 10 rebounds, but he shot and made his first ever three-pointer. "I was wide open, so I thought, 'Why not?' Luckily for me, I drained it. Maybe I should shoot a few more of those, eh?" joked Swift.

Princeton finishes off the regular season at 28-4 (14-0).

The Tigers moved up one spot in the mid-major top 25 poll and are only behind 13th-ranked Wisconsin-Milwaukee (27-1) and 14th-ranked Utah State (23-5).

The final AP Poll of the regular season was released today and the Princeton Tigers slid up one spot to #17 in the AP Poll. Princeton also made their first appearance in the Coaches' Poll where they were ranked 24th and also moved up a spot in the mid-major poll where they are ranked second now behind only Utah State (25-6). Wisconsin-Milwaukee lost in the Horizon Conference Tournament as they fall to 27-2, but they still got a #5 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
        -----------------------------------------------------------------
        Selection Sunday

The Princeton Tigers were overjoyed with their seeding today as they got slooted into a #3 seeding. "We're really proud of our season and I think this just solidifies it," said Coach Frizzell. "Of course, we still need to go out there and take care of business in the tournament.

The Princeton will take on the #14 seeded IUPUI Jaguars. The Jaguars got snubbed on their seeding, though, as they come in having won 15 straight and sport an overall record of 26-3, having won the Summit League. "I have no idea how they got a #14 seed. There's no question that they're one of the hotter teams in the country and should be at least a #10 seed or so. What I really hate is that we have to play them," stated Coach Frizzell.

IUPUI only sports an RPI of 126 and faced zero top 100 RPI teams. They went 3-1 against teams with RPIs of 101-200. They were 23-2 against teams with RPIs of 23-2, meaning that 25 of their 29 games were against teams with RPIs of 201 or higher. Perhaps that is why they didn't get a higher seeding.

Princeton comes in having won 14 in a row, so these teams have combined to win 29 straight games. Princeton still appears to be heavy favorites as the overall talent level is far superior at Princeton, but it's hard to count out a team that hasn't tasted bitter defeat since January 17th, even if they beat up on a bunch of cupcakes during that span.

          ***SPECIAL NOTE***

With the recent slider changes, my shooting percentages are lower since I can't run the fastbreak quite as easily, which is a good thing. Thus, I am going to raise the half length one minute to 16 minutes to help increase scoring a bit. 56-30 games happen, but not very often. I'll reverse the changes if needed.

Princeton Advances to Second Round With Ugly Win over IUPUI

            3/21 vs. #14 seed IUPUI

            Final: 58-49

"They were definitely tough," Coach Frizzell said of IUPUI, "but we were able to win it with great defense. They did a fantastic job on defense; they contested most of our shots and gave us fits on the offensive end all day. I'm not really satisfied with the way we played today, but you have to give a lot of the credit to IUPUI. I knew they'd be tough and they were." Princeton only managed to shoot 36% from the floor at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, which is a lot less than their average of 49% on the season. Princeton missed their first 11 shots and fell in a 10-0 hole before reeling off 11 straight points to go back up in the early going. Cassiand Swift was mired with foul trouble all game long and only managed 6 points and 10 rebounds, but the seniors stepped up in what would have been their final game if they lost. Reynold Gross had a great all-around game as he ended with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Wendell Lalugba didn't want to see his career end, either, as he managed 13 points and 5 rebounds, including a couple of clutch shots to seal the game late.

Princeton moves on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a record of 29-4 (14-0).

Princeton Comes Back to Knock Off Virginia

            3/23 vs. #6 seed Virginia

            Final: 86-78

The Virginia Cavaliers came in on fire and expressed their dominance early on. The Cavaliers only went 19-10 (9-7 ACC) on the year, but they have a lot of talent and a lot of good shooters, which sure showed today. Princeton found itself down by a slight margin most of the game as Virginia was lighting it up from long distance, but Princeton never went down more than seven points and hung around. Then, with three minutes left and down five points, Princeton made a run. The Tigers tied the game with 1:30 left and Reynold Gross came up with a couple of clutch steals to give the Tigers a four point lead. Reynold Gross and Cedric Tchana iced the games with four clutch free throws to win the game and give Coach Frizzell and his Princeton Tigers their second Sweet Sixteen appearance. Wendell Lalugba was key in the second half and came up huge, ending with 18 points and 4 assists. Cassiand Swift had a nice game down low as he ended with 17 pointsand 4 rebounds, but his minutes were greatly shorted due to foul trouble for his second game in a row. He actually fouled out with a minute left. Reynold Gross paced the offense with 12 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and those 2 clutch steals at the end of the game as Princeton gets their 30th win, a first in school history, and moves on to the round of 16.

Princeton moves onto the Sweet Sixteen with a record of 30-4 (14-0).
            -----------------------------------------------------------------
            Press Conference

Coach Frizzell held a press conference today to talk about how his team has made it to the Sweet Sixtenn. He said, "Well, this is my second Sweet Sixteen appearance and our last one ended with a pretty devestating loss to Georgetown. I think we have the potential to do more this time around, though. This team is very, very talented and I don't really hesitate to say that this is the best Princeton team since I've been here."

Princeton will take on the #2 seeded Duke Blue Devils (26-7) in the Sweet Sixteen. "Coach K has 936 career wins and he's just an amazing coach," stated Coach Frizzell. "I think anyone would aspire to be like him. He's got a great program going there in Durham and I hope we can put up a good fight and get a win. At least we don't have to travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium. That's a plus."

The Princeton Tigers will take on the Duke Blue Devils at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona, the home of the Phoenix Suns, on March 28th to see who will advance to the West Regional Finals and to the Elite Eight.

              Princeton Surprisingly Cruises Past Duke

3/28 vs. #2 seed Duke - West Regional Semifinals

              Final: 80-55

21 turnovers doomed the #2 seeded Duke Blue Devils today as favored Duke was absolutely blown out by the Princeton Tigers in today's West Regional Semifinals at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. 16 of those turnovers occurred in the first half, which put the Blue Devils down 51-19 at halftime. The Blue Devils mounted a comeback to get within 18 points in the second half, but they ran out of steam and Princeton advanced to the Elite Eight. "I don't know how we really forced so many turnovers because we didn't press or anything. Pressing is not one of my strategies and I don't think I've ever pressed a single time since I've came here. I'm all about solid defense and I don't do a lot of fancy things with it. Duke simply couldn't hold on the ball today and we clogged up a lot of their passing lanes. We did a great job," beamed Coach Frizzell. Seniors Reynold Gross (18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals) and Wendell Lalugba (14 points, 4 assists, 4 steals) came up with huge performances while Cassiand Swift had yet another solid game down low with a double-double, ending with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Princeton moves onto the Elite Eight with a record of 31-4 (14-0).

Princeton Moves onto the Final Four!!!

3/30 vs. #1 seed Tennessee - West Regional Finals

              Final: 76-73

The Princeton Tigers have won the West Regional and have moved onto the Final Four for only the second time in school history. Tennessee put up quite a fight in this back-and-forth game and had a chance to tie the game with 23 seconds left down 71-68, but the three-pointer clanked off the rim and Princeton sank the free throws to win the game. Wendell Lalugba had a spectacular performance as he draining five three-pointers and tallied 26 points and 7 rebounds in the huge win. Cassiand Swift also came up big with 16 points and 8 rebounds while Reynold Gross ended with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. "This was a huge victory for this team and this institution. We only have two games left to win to get a title and we plan on doing just that!" exclaimed a very happy Coach Frizzell.

Princeton moves onto the Final Four with a 32-4 (14-0 record).

              Press Conference

Coach Frizzell met with the media today to talk about his team's surprising Final Four appearance. "I can't say that I expected to get this far, but I'm not shocked either. This Princeton team cam compete with any team out there right now and we have a whole lot of talent on here. I don't know if we'll be able to win our last two games to become NCAA Champions or not, but we certainly hope so.

"We have a great team in #1 seeded Texas to face off next, so it should be exciting.

              Final Four News

The Final Four will be held at SEFCU arena in Albany, New York this year. This is a bit surprising considering the arena only holds 4,538. "We may not get the big arena, but we'll take whatever the Final Four offers," Coach Frizzell chuckled.

Princeton will played the #1 seeded Texas Longhorns (31-4) next. If Princeton beats the talented Longhorns, they will play the winner of the #6 seed Marquette (24-11)/#2 seed North Carolina (30-6) matchup in the NCAA Championship Game.

Princeton's Magical Run Ends With Loss to Texas

4/6 vs. #1 seed Texas - Final Four

                Final: 79-82

Princeton had its magical run in this year's NCAA Tournament abruptly ended in Albany by the #1 seeded Texas Longhorns. Texas led most of the game and led by 10 points with 1:30 left. Then Princeton embarked on what would have been one of the greatest comebacks in NCAA Tournament history as Princeton got all the way back to within three points with 20 seconds left and the ball. Princeton's Wendell Lalugba missed the final shot of his career, however, with five seconds left, as the Tigers fell by three points. "We put on quite a fight today and we showed a lot of heart to never give up there at the end. We didn't quite pull off the comeback, but we made quite and effort of it," stated Coach Frizzell. In his final collegiate game, Wendell Lalugba struggled mightily from beyond the arc, where he only went 1-8, but he still ended with 19 points and 3 rebounds. Cassiand Swift ended with 17 points and 15 rebounds while Cedric Tchana went a perfect 4-4 from the field and 3-3 from downtown to end with 11 points. Reynold Gross didn't exactly impress in his final game, but he still ended with 8 points and 4 assists.

Princeton finishes the season at 32-5 (14-0).

                Press Conference

Coach Frizzell held a press conference today to talk about yesterday's loss to the Texas Longhorns in the Final Four. "We made a great run deep into the Big Dance, so I don't think we have anything to be ashamed of. Sure, we'd have loved to beat Texas, but we didn't. We still had a heck of a run and only made it to the second Final Four in school history. We'll use this as something to build on for next year."

The #2 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (31-6) knocked off the #6 seeded Marquette Golden Eagles (24-12) by a score of 92-83 to advance to the Championship Game against the #1 seeded Texas Longhorns (32-4). Texas would go on to cruise past North Carolina by a score of 99-79 to win their first ever NCAA Basketball Title.

                Princeton Senior News

This year's senior class consists of two very talented players in Wendell Lalugba and Reynold Gross, both of which have played a huge role in bringing this team up to the peak of success and their Final Four appearance. Coach Frizzell commented, "These two young men have had decorated careers here at Princeton and we are glad to have had them. They really helped to propel us to never-before-seen heights here at Princeton and have helped to establish us as an elite team. Last year's class began that process, but this year's class was the one that really got it cranking."

Wendell Laugba was a diamond in the rough, so to speak, but he was the most highly rated recruit Coach Frizzell had at the time. He was the 136th overall player and the 40th overall small forward coming out of high school and was a three-star prospect. He has collected numerous awards in his career and is a two-time Ivy League Conference Player of the Year. His best year statistically is his freshman year when he averaged 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. His stats have declined since then, but this is only due to the fact that he has a lot more talent surrounding him than before. He is no doubt a more pollished player now. He boasts career averages of 16.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game and has 346 career three-pointers made in his career, blowing away the previous school record. He has shot 41.7% from downtown in his career.

Reynold Gross, a four-star prospect, originally committed to UCLA as the #79 overall player and the #33 point guard in the nation, but he was forced to be a bench player there, so he decided to transfer to Princeton following his sophomore season. At Princeton, he averaged 13.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in his junior year. His numbers declined a bit this year, but that is mostly due to the fact that there is more talent around now, so not as much is asked of him. His career averages are a bit skewed since he rode the pine the first two years of his career at UCLA, but he has averaged 7.6 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game over the course of his career. He is a lifetime 36.4% three-point shooter. He also was First-Team All-Conference in his junior and senior years.

That was a tremendous effort by PU this season, going to the Final Four! Congrats on getting them that far.

With Coach Frizzell averaging 20+ wins a season with the Tigers, it looks like he is ready for a new challenge.

Thanks. We'll see about moving on. It all depends on what job offers I get. I'm not going to just move on just for the sake of getting a better job; I'm only going to go to a school where I'd like to coach at. We'll see if those open up!

                      Off-Season News

After going to the Final Four this past year with this talent-laden Princeton team, it was no surprise when a couple of power conference schools came calling. Still, Coach Frizzell was passed over for job offers at Duke and Florida State. Coach Frizzell was offered the job at UConn, who struggled to a sub-.500 record last year. He also was offered the head coaching position of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Temple Owls out of the Atlantic Ten. In the end, however, Coach Frizzell decided to turn all the offers down and to come back to Princeton for yet another year. "I was flattered by the job offers, but the truth is that I have no desire to coach at UConn or Georgia," he said.

There is speculation that Frizzell would have easily accepted the Duke job if he had been offered, but that is all speculation and didn't come to fruition. It is still suspected that Frizzell is waiting for Coach Bob Huggins of West Virginia to retire, so he can take his place as the head man in Morgantown.
                      -----------------------------------------------------------------
                      Press Conference

This off-season also saw Coach Frizzell fire both of his previous assistant coaches for supposed poor performance. and hire better ones for the first time in his career. Coach Frizzell stated, "It was hard to let coaches Dearmon and Torres go, but I feel that we needed to do so to keep this program moving forward. I wish them the best of luck in their futures, but as we move into becoming a perennial NCAA Tournament team, we need to improve our coaching staff and I felt that this was made for the good of the team, the players, and the program."

The selection committee has interviewed dozens of candidates this off-season and has came up with their selections. Coach Frizzell announced at a press conference, "Let me introduce you all to our new assistant coaches for the 2013-2014 season. Will Brown has shown to be a capable head coach as he has compiled a 110-150 overall record in his coaching career and now he will be joining us here in Princeton. His strength is his offensive genius and that is why he was hired. I feel that he can really help improve our guys' offensive game and he should do well here. I really love his enthusiasm and his passion for the game, so it's great to have him here.

"Also, let me introduce you all to Marion Brown. Brown has never had a Division I head coaching job, but he is widely known as a very good assistant coach around the country. His strength is that he is a good scout and should help us effectively scout our upcoming opponents well and should help us to find those diamonds in the rough when recruiting. He also has quite a defensive mind, so he should help us in that aspect of our game and help make us a better overall defensive team."

                      Recruiting News

4/14 - First Day of Spring Signing Period

Coach Frizzell filled both scholarships in this year's recruiting class with two players who are highly regarded around the country as Princeton continues to make huge strides in the recruiting department. 2Khoops.com analyst Lee Williamson commented, "This class isn't quite as impressive as last season's for the Princeton Tigers, but it is still pretty impressive. Coach Frizzell only had two scholarships to offer this season and I feel that he did a pretty good job at it."

Coach Frizzell is beginning to establish a foothold in the New York City area as he reeled in both of this year's recruits from there, including the 38th ranked overall recruit of this year's class in Romain Bright, a four-star recruit out of Brooklyn, New York. Bright is the seventh-ranked small forward in this year's class and stands at 6'6 and 218 pounds. He is a decent shooter and can hopefully replace the legendary Wendell Lalugba in the comint years.

Coach Frizzell also secured a junior college prospect out of the Bronx in Denis Graham. Princeton was short on big men this past season, so Graham, who was one of the better JUCO power forwards available in this year's class, was offered a scholarship which he immediately accepted. Analyst Lee Williamson said, "Graham is probably the biggest recruit of this year's class for Coach Frizzell. Bright is probably the better player, but Graham is a guy that was needed badly. He is only a junior college freshman, so he'll be able to stay at Princeton for three years and be an effective backup for Swift and Harrington, something the Tigers lacked this past season."

Here is a look at Princeton's 2013 recruiting class:
                      1. Romain Bright 6'6 218 (Brooklyn, NY - #38 overall, #7 SF) 4*
                      2. Denis Graham 6'8 229 (Bronx, NY - NR, NR SF) 3* - JUCO

This class is ranked as the 138th class in the nation accordint to 2khoops.com. However, that number is skewed since Princeton only had two scholarships available to offer. In reality, this was about as good as Princeton could have hoped for.

                        The Replacements

Romain Bright (#38 overall, #7 SF) stepped onto campus in better shape than ever and really excelled in his preseason workouts, outplaying senior Timon Michaud for the starting small forward role. Michaud was expected by almost everyone to be the starter, but Bright has wowed the coaches with his play so far. He can shoot, rebounds, drive, and do whatever the coaches ask of him. He looks to be even better than Wendell Lalugba was at this point, though we'll see how he progresses over the coming years.

There was some disappointment surrounding JUCO signee Denis Graham when he stepped onto campus. Some thought he would beat out C.J. Harrington for the starting power forward spot, but that has been far from the case. He is struggling to adjust to college ball, but he'll probably turn out fine. For now, he's the backup for Swift and Harrington, so he'll get plenty of minutes.

Wesley French was an All-American coming out of high school and Princeton's first five-star recruit a year ago. With Reynold Gross commanding the starting role last year, Coach Frizzell thought it was best to let Gross start and rather than waste a year of French's eligibility as a backup, Frizzell decided to redshirt French. It appears to have paid off as French has looked great so far in practice and has most of the same strengths as Gross had in that he can shoot, drive, and pass the ball with great efficiency.

                          Princeton Rallies Past Samford

                          11/4 vs. Samford - NIT Season Tip-Off B - First Round

                          Final: 78-62

Despite the final score, this was quite a close game. Samford held the lead early on and led by as much as 10 at one point. Princeton rallied back, though, and seized a 33-28 halftime lead. Princeton would lead most of the second half, but would not pull away until the final minutes of the game. Coach Frizzell commented, "Quite frankly, we didn't play well. We didn't make our jumpshots, we weren't very good defensively, and we just weren't very efficient." Freshman small forward Romain Bright showed flashes of Wendell Lalugba as he led the team with 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Wesley French also made quite a debut with 15 points and 6 assists. Cedric Tchana added 14 points while C.J. Harrington tallied 13 points and 5 rebounds. Cassiand Swift was only 4-11 from the field, but still managed 9 points and 13 rebounds in the 16 point win.

                          Princeton is now 1-0.

                          La Salle Moves On

                          11/5 vs. La Salle - NIT Season Tip-Off B - Final Round

                          Final: 84-90

"We didn't shoot well, we didn't execute well, and we played horendous defense. That's all I have to say about this game." Those were the words of a very frustrated Coach Frizzell following his team's six point loss to La Salle. He had a right to be angry. Princeton shot a miserable 4-21 from three-point range and was all-over-the-place on the defensive end as La Salle had wide open men all game long. Romain Bright hit 8 free throws in the game to end with 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Cassiand Swift managed his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Benjamin came off the bench to add 10 points in Princeton's first loss of the season.

                          Princeton is now 1-1.

Princeton Loses Tough Game to Arizona State on the Road

                                11/8 @ Arizona State

                                Final: 81-91

For the first time since Coach Frizzell's inaugural season at Princeton back in the 2007-2008 season, Princeton is a sub-.500 team. The Princeton Tigers were atrocious shooting the basketball, going only 2-16 from downtown, in their 10 point loss on the road to the Sun Devils as they fall to 1-2 on the year. "We didn't shoot well; we didn't defend well. That's all there is to it," commented Coach Frizzell. Cassiand Swift scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in the loss. Newcomer Wesley French went 8-8 from the free throw line as he ended with 18 points and 3 assists while Romain Bright ended with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

                                Princeton is now 1-2.

Princeton Gets Back on Track With Blowout of Cal Poly

                                11/9 @ Cal Poly

                                Final: 92-67

Perhaps the Princeton Tigers are back on track now after their 25 point win on the road against Cal Poly on the road. "We bounced back well from the Arizona State loss a day prior. We shot the ball a lot better and our defense was worlds better than in yesterday's game," said Coach Frizzell. Cassiand Swift (20 points, 13 rebounds) was dominant down low as he tallied a double-double while Cedric Tchana (19 points, 4 rebounds) was on fire from downtown as he shot 5-6 from three-point land and 7-8 overall. Romain Bright went a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line to earn 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals while Wesley French paced the offense with 14 points and 5 assists.

                                Princeton is now 2-2.

The first mid-major top 25 poll of the season came out today and the Princeton Tigers came in ranked #6 despite their two early losses to La Salle and Arizona State. UL-Lafayette (3-0) leads the poll while Wisconsin Milwaukee (2-0) and San Francisco (4-0) round out the top three.

                                Princeton Sneaks by Lafeyette

                                Final: 63-58

Princeton fell behind by as much as 15 points in the first hald and trailed 31-26 at halftime, but the Tigers rallied back in the second half to pull off a five point victory over Lafayette on the road. Coach Frizzell beamed, "As we've done all season so far, we just didn't play very well and didn't look very good. We're not going to go far in the NCAA Tournament if we keep on playing like this. Heck, we may not even get in the Big Dance." Cassiand Swift was the only member of the team who could consistently score points as he ended with 21 points and 7 rebounds as he has been hot to start his sophomore year. Marin Collins came off the bench to add 10 points and 3 assists and was the only other Tiger in double-figures.

                                Princeton is now 3-2.

Princeton Falls in the First Round of the Great Alaska Shootout

11/20 vs. New Orleans - Great Alaska Shootout - First Round

                                Final: 71-79

Cassiand Swift may have had another monster performance as he scored 17 points and snatched 17 rebounds, but this Princeton team simply isn't getting it done as the Tigers collected their third loss in five games today, getting punched out of the Great Alaska Shootout in the First Round by the New Orleans Privateers. The game was close throughout, but the Privateers had a little extra left in the tank at the end and came away with the win as a result. Romain Bright continued his atrocious shooting from long range, where he went 0-7, but he still managed 17 points while Cedric Tchana hit three three-pointers to end with 11 points. "As I said in our previous game, we just aren't playing very good basketball on either end of the floor," explained Coach Frizzell.

                                Princeton is now 3-3.

Princeton Overcomes Deficit to Beat Southern

11/22 vs. Southern - Great Alaska Shootout - Loser's Bracket

                                Final: 76-66

The Princeton Tigers fell behind early to an inferior opponent, this time against Southern, who came in with an 0-4 record. Princeton battled back to a four point halftime deficit and went on to win by 10 points, but it is certainly not good news that the Tigers are struggling to beat some of these cupcakes. "This is getting ridiculous. We cannot continue to play like this if we expect to get anywhere this year," exclaimed Coach Frizzell. Cassiand Swift continued to play like the NBA Draft Lottery Pick that he'll probably be in the near future as he end with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Wesley French bounced back from last game to score 18 points and dish out 6 assists while Romain Bright ended with 16 points and 3 rebounds.

                                Princeton is now 4-3.

Iowa Crushes Princeton's Hopes With Clutch Shot

11/23 vs. Iowa - Great Alaska Shootout - Fifth Place Game

                                Final: 68-70

This game was back and forth and it came right down to the wire, but the Iowa Hawkeyes made their shots when it counted and came away with a win. The game was tied with just five seconds left before Iowa's Dakari Grove sank a clutch bucket to put the Hawkeyes up by two points. Princeton would get one last chance, but Wesley French's three-pointer clanked off the rim as the buzzer sounded and Iowa came away with a win. Princeton also went 0-10 from beyond the arc, marking the first time Coach Frizzell's Princeton Tigers have not hit a single three-point shot in a game. Coach Frizzell simmered, "That stat is telling. I cannot believe how horribly we are shooting. It's not like we are not getting open, we simply just cannot shoot the basketball. That has to stop!" Cassiand Swift still made the best of the loss as he scored a career-high 28 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and collected 4 steals in the loss. Romain Bright (17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) also had a nice game as did Wesley French (11 points, 6 assists).

Princeton is now 4-4 and finishes in sixth place in the Great Alaska Shootout.

                                Press Conference

Coach Frizzell held a press conference today and was asked why he thought his team was shooting so poorly. He responded, "To be honest, I'm really not sure. We're getting open looks. We're just not connected. We're able to hit them in practice, but we cannot hit them in the game. We're definitely looking at refining our shooting motion some. This is a young team and I think some of them just get the jitters being out there on the court. It's a lot easier to hit a shot in practice than in a real game." Princeton is hitting a mere 23.9% of their three-pointers on the year.

Coach Frizzell was also asked about Cassiand Swift's dominance so far this year down low. "He's been great. He had some struggles getting adjusted last year, but now that he'll fully adjusted, he's been awesome. We is just so dominating down low and draws double-teams a lot. This opens up open looks from deep, which are the shoots that we need to hit. He's shooting well, rebounding well, and scoring well. What else could I ask of him?"
