      Selection Sunday
      East Region

      (1) Gonzaga (32-1)
      (16) Morehead St. (15-16)/Stephen F. Austin (16-12)

      (8) Ohio St. (23-9)
      (9) Washington St. (21-11)

      (5) Arizona St. (22-9)
      (12) American (20-10)

      (4) Providence (23-10)
      (13) Columbia (19-8)

      (6) Tennessee (21-11)
      (11) Boston College (15-13)

      (3) LSU (27-6)
      (14) Cleveland St. (19-12)

      (7) Miami [FL] (22-10)
      (10) TCU (21-12)

      (2) Duke (24-6)
      (15) High Point (17-14)

      Upset Watch
      (11) Boston College over (6) Tennessee
—This region doesn’t really favor any upsets. This game is the only one that could surprise some people if BC shows up..

      Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
      (1) Gonzaga vs. (2) Duke
While we think Gonzaga is overrated, they have an easy road to the Elite 8. The only team really capable of stopping them is Providence. We like Duke to make the Final Four, but they have to get through two very good SEC teams in Tennessee and LSU to get there.

        Selection Sunday
        West Region

        (1) North Carolina (23-6)
        (16) IUPUI (20-11)

        (8) Maryland (19-11)
        (9) Wake Forest (20-13)

        (5) San Diego (24-7)
        (12) Purdue (23-11)

        (4) Florida (24-8)
        (13) Florida Atlantic (20-10)

        (6) California (22-9)
        (11) North Florida (23-7)

        (3) Michigan St. (26-8)
        (14) Northern Iowa (18-13)

        (7) Villanova (20-11)
        (10) George Washington (22-10)

        (2) UCLA (26-7)
        (15) Idaho St. (19-10)

        Upset Watch
        (12) Purdue over (6) San Diego
—While San Diego had a very good year, we think that Purdue has more talent than them so they win this game.

Also watch the North Florida game. California’s best player Ryan Anderson got hurt midway through the year and will miss this tournament as well as much of next season. He was averaging 24 ppg, so someone on the Bears will have to step up or they could be surprised by a very young, talented UNF team.

        Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
        (1) North Carolina vs. (3) Michigan St.
Hard bracket to pick. North Carolina had trouble with Maryland during the regular season, and Florida could give them trouble as well. We don’t see UCLA getting there, so Michigan St. is the next best choice..

          (2) Louisville (23-10)
          (15) Hartford (18-13)

          Upset Watch
          (10) Utah over (7) Clemson
—Not much of an upset, but Utah has flown under a lot of people’s radar.

          Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
          (5) Syracuse vs. (2) Louisville
Another very tough bracket in the south. We think whoever wins the Syracuse and Connecticut match-up will beat Arizona if they get that far. Neither UNLV or Marquette really pose a threat to Louisville who should get to the Elite 8 fairly easily.

            (7) Georgetown (19-13)

            (2) Michigan (27-5)
            (15) Fresno St. (17-14)

            Upset Watch
            (11) NC St. over (6) USC
—No obvious upset in this region. NCST’s record doesn’t show how good of a team they really can be.

            Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
            (4) Stanford vs. (7) Georgetown
Neither Notre Dame or Michigan are likely to come out of this bracket. This one should be very entertaining because it’s almost impossible to tell who will win it. West Virginia and Pitt have just as much of a chance to make it out as the 1 or 2 seed.

Good, It was a very good read.

I used NF when I got CH2k, Used them for 4 years till I want to St Marys, Was able to get decent recruiting and having Wood for all 4 years made all the better.

                Great team.

Great read. UNF is one of my favorite teams to start with, Wood is a great player.
                  Please keep this one going.

Re: Coaching Career of Chris Matthews (CH2k8)

                    NCAA Tournament 1st Round Preview

                    Point Guards
                    Cal: Jerome Randle (JR, 5'9, 79 ovr) - 10.0 PPG, 4.0 APG, 2.6 RPG
                    UNF: Junior Rivera (FR, 6'4, 68 ovr) - 6.5 PPG, 9.3 APG, 2.0 RPG, 1.4 SPG

Advantage: UNF - Rivera's size alone will make it very difficult for Randle to get points. Rivera is a better passing point guard as well, which will be very important if the Ospreys want to win this one.

                    Shooting Guards
                    Cal: Patrick Christopher (JR, 6'6, 81 ovr) - 14 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.8 apg
                    UNF: Brent Wood (SO, 6'5, 60 ovr) - 20.0 PPG, 3.4 RGP, 1.1 APG, 43% 3pt

Advantage: Cal - While Wood seems like the obvious choice here, Patrick Christopher has the advantage. With no Ryan Anderson, he is the teams go-to guy. Brent Wood has struggled in big games in the past, and with a taller, more athletic guy guarding him, we aren't sold that he can have the big game he needs to.

                    Small Forwards
                    Cal: Theo Robertson (JR, 6'6", 79 ovr) - 7.6 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.8 APG
                    UNF: Tom Hammonds (SR, 6'4", 68 ovr) - 19.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2.2 APG

Advantage: Cal - Similar to the shooting guard situation, Hammonds is playing out of position against a bigger man which is going to hurt his scoring ability. Since UNF plays man to man, Robertson could have a big game.

                    Power Forwards
                    Cal: Jamal Boykin (JR, 6'7", 74 ovr) - 6.5 ppg, 7.8 rpg
                    UNF: Justin Cecil (SO, 6'8", 62 ovr) - 6.7 PPG, 6.3 RGP

Advantage: Cal - Easy choice here. Cecil is only starting so that the Ospreys can have a decent player come off the bench (Ellerbee). Cecil won't be much of a factor in this one, so we give it to the other team.

                    Centers
                    Cal: Jordan Wilkes (JR, 7'0", 69 ovr) - 3.3 ppg, 1.3 rpg
                    UNF: Emerson Riley (FR, 7'2", 68 ovr) - 16.0 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 1.5 BPG

Advantage: UNF - Emerson Riley played extremely well against power teams early in the season, before falling off a little in conference play. He had a huge conference tournament, which could mean trouble for Cal. Wilkes also hasn't started this season, the only reason he is, is to match up with Riley. If Riley stays out of foul trouble, look for him to put up 20 and 10.

                    Bench
Advantage: Cal - Cal is much deeper than North Florida. They have several guys that can come off the bench and put points on the board, while North Florida always struggles to score with their starters out. Ka'Ron Ellerbee needs to have some good minutes for the Ospreys if they want to win this one.

                    X-Factor
                    Cal: their Bench
UNF: Big 3 (Wood, Hammonds, Riley)

California's bench could possibly determine this game. Expect UNF's starters to be able to keep up with Cal's starting 5, but the bench on the other hand is much more lopsided. If the Bears bench can outscore the Ospreys bench, like they should, then that is a huge advantage for them.

For North Florida, they have 3 players. All 3 need to put up 15 points each if they want a shot at winning this game. If Cal comes out in a zone, that will probably happen, because both Wood and Hammonds can shoot lights out. With that said, North Florida did manage to beat Georgetown on the road this year despite Brent Wood having a bad game.

Rupp Arena -- What seemed like the entire student body of North Florida made the trip to Rupp Arena for North Florida's 1st ever NCAA tournament game. Their setion went crazy after North Florida took it's first lead, 3-2, after Emerson Riley hit a free throw.

North Florida's big 3 got off to a solid start, with each of them having 3 of the Osprey's first 9 points. The 3 of them continued to score, and California was forced to call a time-out just 5:15 into the game, with UNF leading 16-8. Cal also started to get into a little foul trouble early, with both Randle and Boykin having to sit with 2 fouls less than halfway into the first half, with UNF leading 26-16 (11:46 remaining in half). The rest of the half was much slower paced, with the score 32-23 North Florida with 4:35 remaining.

At the half, North Florida lead California 40-30. Brent Wood led all scorers with 9 points, followed by Wilkes of Cal with 8.

The Ospreys started out hot in the 2nd half, outscoring Cal 7-3 in the first 2 minutes, with Riley scoring 6 of those for North Florida. Cal slowly started creeping back, though, shrinking it to a 7 point lead midway through the 2nd half, 60-53.

Christopher hit a 3 to make it a 7 point game again with 5:00 to go in the game. Ensuing possession, Emerson Riley posterizes Wilkes for an and-1. Tom Hammonds hits a 3-pointer with 3:00 to go to push the lead to 11, 76-65. Cal can't hit it's shots down the stretch, and North Florida pulls it out.

The North Florida Ospreys upset California in their very first NCAA tournament game.

                          NCAA Tournament 2nd Round Preview

                          Point Guards
                          MSU: Kalin Lucas (SO, 6'1, 81 ovr) - 7.9 PPG, 6.2 APG, 1.6 RPG
                          UNF: Junior Rivera (FR, 6'4, 68 ovr) - 6.5 PPG, 9.3 APG, 2.0 RPG, 1.4 SPG

Advantage: Draw - Both of these point guards are very similar, as they are both pass first and shoot second. They had very similar results in each of their first round games. Lucas could have some trouble with Rivera's size, but Rivera could have some trouble with Lucas' speed and quickness.

                          Shooting Guards
                          MSU: Durrell Summers (SO, 6'5, 78 ovr) - 7.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg,
                          UNF: Brent Wood (SO, 6'5, 60 ovr) - 20.0 PPG, 3.4 RGP, 1.1 APG, 43% 3pt

Advantage: UNF - This is strictly based on scoring ability. Wood scored 15 points against Cal, but shot just 4-14 from the floor against the bigger Christopher. He will probably still put up his 15 points, but Summers will keep him from scoring the 30 points that he is capable of doing.

                          Small Forwards
                          MSU: Raymar Morgan (JR, 6'8", 86 ovr) - 17.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.1 APG
                          UNF: Tom Hammonds (SR, 6'4", 68 ovr) - 19.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2.2 APG

Advantage: MSU - This is a huge match-up advantage for Michigan St. Tom Hammonds has the ability to score, but anyone will have trouble going against a guy 4 inches taller than them. Whoever wins this battle could determine who wins this game.

                          Power Forwards
                          MSU: Marquise Gray (SR, 6'8", 77 ovr) - 7.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg
                          UNF: Justin Cecil (SO, 6'8", 62 ovr) - 6.7 PPG, 6.3 RGP

Advantage: MSU - This one is going to be difficult for North Florida. The Ospreys got Boykin in foul trouble for Cal which prevented the mismatch from happening, but Gray is much more polished and experienced than him. Gray could have a big game.

                          Centers
                          MSU: Goran Suton (SR, 6'10", 81 ovr) - 12.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg
                          UNF: Emerson Riley (FR, 7'2", 68 ovr) - 16.0 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 1.5 BPG

Advantage: UNF - Riley dominated the first round game against California, and could do the same against the Spartans. Suton will have to find a way to put up points, because he is one of MSU's better scorers. 7-footer Tom Herzog might have to play more than usual to try to slow Riley down.

                          Bench
Advantage: MSU - Like Cal, the Spartans have much more talent on the bench than the Ospreys do. UNF still managed to have their bench outscore that of Cal's though. Michigan State can't allow that to happen.

                          X-Factor
                          MSU: Raymar Morgan
UNF: Big 3 (Wood, Hammonds, Riley)

If Raymar Morgan has a big game, it's unlikely that North Florida will have a chance. If he doesn't, they could be in trouble. It took overtime for the Spartans to beat N. Iowa, and the Ospreys have a much better team and coach.

Nothing new here. North Florida has had to rely on these three guys this entire season. They all are going to need big games again to advance and keep the Cinderella hopes alive.

Rupp Arena -- Coach Matthews appreared to do a good job motivating his players before the game. They jumped out to an early 7-2 lead despite Michigan St. having 3 blocks in less than 3 minutes. North Florida had the same gameplan as against Cal, attacking the basket early to get the Spartans in foul trouble. Coach Izzo had to call a timeout just 5 minutes into the game, as his team was losing to the Ospreys 14-6.

The time-out seemed to be timely, as Michigan St. took the lead 4 minutes later 18-17. The rest of the 1st half was full of boring and sloppy play, the game was tied at 29 with 5:00 to go in the half. A big blow for the Ospreys came when Emerson Riley picked up his 2nd foul in the closing minutes of the 1st half, then his back-up Ka'Ron Ellerbee picked up his 2nd just seconds after.

North Florida is really fortunate to just be down 6 at halftime. They shot just 2-14 from long range, and their top scorers were 1-6 (Hammonds) and 1-5 (Wood) from the floor. Suton did extremely well for the Spartans, putting up 12 points and 4 rebounds in the half to go along with 3 blocks.

Emerson Riley came back in a short while into the 2nd, and let his presence be known. The ospreys tied the game up at 45 with 17:22 to go in the game. The game quickly became a battle between the stud freshman and Suton of Michigan St. They went back and forth several times down the court exchanging buckets.

The Spartans started to pull away midway in the 2nd half, but Stan "the Man" Januska who had been complaining a lot as of late came in and put up 8 quick points off of the bench. It wasn't enough to last though as Michigan St. still had a 65-57 lead with 10:00 remaining. Brent Wood finally showed up in the closing moments of the game, and allowed UNF to close the gap to 68-66 with 6:42 to go. A pain of Junior Rivera free throws and it was a tie game just 30 seconds later.

Everyone was on their feet, and there was still 6 minutes to play. North Florida took the lead for the first time since very early in the first half. With just 4:55 to play, the Ospreys now had a 3 point lead. Everyone in Rupp Arena that wasn't wearing green was now for the suprising team that no one knew about before the tournament. Tom Izzo had to call a timeout with 4:15 left to calm his team down, he knew that this was a key moment in this game. It worked. Seconds later Marquis Gray dunked over the towering freshman Emerson Riley for an And-1.

This made Riley upset, so he took it upon his self to get his own and1 on the other end. The score is 78-74 with 3:23 to play. Ka'Ron Ellerbee has a huge steal, and Emerson Riley nails another huge shot with a foul, and Marquis Gray is now fouled out! North Florida up 81-74 with 2:29 to play as Michigan St. calls a timeout. Ellerbee fouled out on the other end, but Morgan could only hit one free throw so the lead is still 6.

83-77 with a minute to go. Riley misses a turnaround jumper, and Suton makes his. 4 point game with 34.0 left, and Michigan St. has to foul. Wood nails the front end, and the back end of the double bonus. The Spartans need a miracle, but Summers misses the 3. This one looks to be over, as North Florida increases it's lead to 7 with 15.1 left. And....make it 8.

It looks like Cinderella might have came with the Ospreys from Florida.
