Re: Legacy of Coach Mitchell
Coach Mitchell:
25 Years Old
Offense: C-
Defense: C
Teaching: C-
Scouting: C-
Charisma: B
Discipline: C-
Assistants:
R. Barnard: Coach Barnard will help me out with recruiting.
B. Wilkerson: Coach Wilkerson is a defensive minded coach.
Coaching Strategy:
Offensive: On offense we plan on running our plays through the post players and let them do their thing. We are a weak shooting team.
Defense: On defense we will be running man to man with some mix of zone depending on how the opponent hurts us. We will only press if we need to at the end of the game or we are down by a lot. I believe defense wins championships, so I will build the team around defense.

Re: Legacy of Coach Mitchell
Ark Pine Bluff Roster
Starting Lineup:
PG SO #14 T. Calvin-64. Calvin will be the man that starts the offense. Even though he cannot pass very well, he can drive to the rim very good. Only starting underclassmen.
SG SR #35 L. Williams-60. Williams is the best shooter on are team which is not saying much. His ballhandling skills are very questionable. He is a average defender.
SF SR #25 T. Hamilton-58. If you have ever seen Hamilton before the first thing that probably comes to your mind is his heigth. Being only 6'3'' he is very small for a forward. But he is one of those players that will will dive for any loose ball and play really good pressure defense.
PF SR #23 W. Byrd-72. Byrd is a hardworker during practice and it shows during a game. He is one of if not the best player in the SWAC. Byrd is a good rebounder, can post up, and can take you to the rim and slam it in your face. He is also the best freethrow shooter on the team which is rare for a big man.
C SR #21 J. Gunter-64. Gunter has good size at 6'10'' and shows good low post skills both defensively and offensively. Has the ability to average 2 or 3 blocks a game.
Reserves:
PF #22 G. Davis-59. One of the best rebounders on the team.
PF #40 R. Parks-56. Only 6'5'', but still average rebounder
SG #12 W. Moore-56. Decent shooter with good speed. He will spot Calvin at the point.
SG #24 M. Goin-55. Good defender.
SG #10 A. Ootesey-54. Tall guard (6'4'').
PF #50 T. Johnson-53. Has tremedous size (270 LBS). Project.
PF #50 J. Williams-52. Has good rebounding potential.
PF #44 T. Glass-51. Redshirted
* Redshirt
Coaches Thoughts: We will need to take our time on offense and dump it down low since we only have one legitimate shooter. Calvin will need to develop more of a point guard mentality. Our defense will be one of the key factors of our success this season. Another factor will be the play of our bigs. Byrd, Gunter, Hamilton, and T. Williams will have to be good leaders to the bench players if they want to make it to the NCAA Tournament their senior seasons.Last edited by Iceman5315; 05-14-2009, 07:44 PM.

Re: Legacy of Coach Mitchell
Okay, so far, Coach.
As normal, the out of conference schedule is stacked with rough competition. That is expected from all schools from your conference. (TCU & Colorado State from Mountain West Conference, UTEP & Houston from Conference USA, Arkansas from SEC and Texas A&M from the Big 12).If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.Comment

Coach Mitchell's Post Game Thoughts:
We got off to a defensive start while our offense was very bad. Half way through the first half we were tied at 16, then they made their run. They went on 20-0 run lead by their freshman post player Britten. At halftime I just told my team to just keep playing hard no matter what. In the second half we played better offensively, but worse defensively, which was I think because of fatigue. Our only bright spot on offense was are star player, Byrd, he had 17 points. We turned the ball over a total of 19 times and they shot 15 more freethrows than we did.
Our next game is against Wichita State. We will need to limit turnovers and attack the basket more to even have a chance to win on the road.

Coach Mitchell's Post Game Thoughts
This game was a tough one to lose. We stayed with them the whole way, until they pulled away with about 3 minutes left in the game. We were throwing the ball all over the place (19 turnovers). The only consistent scorer we have is Byrd. He lead the way with 20 points and 7 rebounds. We need to get more scoring out of Calvin who only has a total of 4 points in the first to games combined. On defense we got torched late by their forward, Couisnard, he scored 21 points on the smaller defender Hamilton. Gunter had a great defensive game with 5 blocks and 2 steals. They made their freethrows down the stretch to seal the deal.
Our next game is agaisnt TCU. For us to get our first victory, Byrd might have to score 30 or 35 because no one else is showing any sign of offense.

Coach Mitchell's Post Game Thoughts
We finally had a good shooting game. Williams lead the shooting attack with 17 points and was 3/5 from the 3-point arc. I am really proud of how Williams came out and played today. Our defense had a good game to, forcing 15 turnovers. We had a scary moment at the beginning of the 2nd half when Byrd went down with a sprained ankle. After the trainers re-taped his ankle, he was ready to go back in. You could not tell he was hurt because he scored 15 of his game high 19 points in the 2nd half to seal the deal. TCU's Wall and Hackett started to knock down some threes but it was to late to come back. One key to the victory was we only had 8 turnovers. One of the only weak spots of the game for us was Calvin being in foul trouble. He played very little and only scored two points.
I finally got the monkey off my back with my first win of my career. Hopefully we can keep it rolling against La Tech. I think we have a very good chance of winning the game. They have some injuries and some transfers that have to set out this season.

Coach Mitchell's Post Game Thoughts
I Am really proud of this group coming back after being down at halftime. We held them to 37% shooting with are terrific defense. Byrd played good once again getting his first Dbl-Dbl of the season. Calvin is starting to play like a point guard. Calvin, Williams, Hamilton, and Byrd all scored in double figures. We had are best rebounding game has a team of the season with 40 rebounds. We almost gave it away with a turnover late, but played good defense to get the ball back and Byrd knocked down free throws to win the game.
Our next game against Arkansas will be the toughest game on our schedule. They have the size and speed to make it deep in NCAA tournment. If we have any chance against the number 23 team in the country we will have to limit turnovers, which we havent done so far.

Coach Mitchell's Post Game Thoughts
Arkansas was just to big and to fast. They had five players score in double figures and everybody on their team scored. They dished out 23 assists including 7 by Beverly. The only bright spot like usual was the play of Byrd. He recorded his 2nd straight Dbl-Dbl. We only shot 38% while they shot 47%.
We need to get back on our winning ways against Colorado State. They have no where near the talent that Arkansas has. But they do have a quality point guard and 7 foot center.
Record: 2-3
