Rob Stone, the next big thing.

Since my last dynasty might be dead, or on hold until I recreate it all... I decided to throw myself a challenge.

I decided to start a career legacy with South Carolina State, I picked a school at random it just so happened to be SCST. I'm from North Carolina so there is no SC bias in my school selection.

    Game - College Hoops 2k8
    Difficulty - AA
    Rosters - 2k9 Rosters from 2kShare
    Half Lengths - 15 minutes
Sliders - Custom with the CPU given the shooting advantage
Rules - No created freshman unless the AAs are mainly PGs or SGs.

    Orangeburg, SC
The South Carolina Bulldogs announced today they have signed Rob Stone to a 2 year contract. Rob was a standout high school player in South Carolina and had a 2 year playing career that was cut short after Tim Carter came into be the new head coach of SCST. Coach Carter has moved on to coach the Liberty Flames of the Big South.

Prior to joining the SC State staff, Stone worked for himself as the owner of Bluechip Sports Training, LLC (2005-08). Walton also served as a fitness instructor for a health club in Macon, GA for a year (2007-08) and head coach of the Georgia Wildcats AAU team for two seasons (2004-06). He has helped scout and develop talent in Georgia for the past three years and is considered a big threat to the South East's recruiting scene.

    Rob Stone's Abilities:
    Overall C
    Offense C-
    Defense C-
    Teaching C
    Scouting B+
    Charisma C+
    Discipline C-

    In his own words-
"I want to run an up tempo offense, scoring lots of points and keeping the pressure on our opponents to keep up or get left behind. The Bulldogs have been known in the MEAC to be a ''slow down" team, but we have so many good scorers and runners. We lack the size to have a potent rebounding strategy so we have to look to our guards to keep us in the game.

    Roster

    Starters
PG #2 Jessie Burton 76 ovr (JR) 6'1
SG #22 Carrio Bennett 61 ovr (FR) 6'1
SF #23 Everett Spencer 70 ovr (Jr) 6'6

    2 #15 Jason Flagler 56 ovr (So) 6'5
    3 #32 Chris Miller-Williams (Jr) 6'6

    Redshirts
Freshman Westley Telfare and Sophomore Dale Carn will be redshirted this season. Coach Stone had this to say, "Both boys have great potential, ya know. We really wanted to give them a year to mature and learn the game some more. I had the pleasure of seeing Westley many times in high school and I know I can get the most out of him and he will fit well into the system. Dale would be our tallest player this year and give us an advantage inside, but given a year to mature he will be a bigger stronger player with a chance to compete for the starting job at Center.

Meet the Assistant Coaches of South Carolina State

From the Head Coach Rob Stone, "I feel lucky to have these guys, I guess some would say this is an experiment. I took the other coach considered for the Head Coaching job, and I selected a former assistant coach at Blue Chippers Development. Both of these guys know how to mold talent, I hope this experiment goes well as I think many will like the results."

Isaiah Ravello is the first assistant coach, he was also a main contender to get the head coaching job, some say he is more prepared as he has been an assistant coach at D2 School of the South in South Carolina. Isaiah also played for the Bulldogs and is 25 years old.

His best ability is his defensive mentally. He had a B- in this category.

Dalen McKnight has been considered one of the best AAU coaches in the South and one of the best scouts for talent. The 26 year old has been around the South Carolina and Georgia talent pools molding talent. His father was a great High School coach in South Carolina.

His best ability is his scouting with a B- ability.

      Recruiting

      Rivals.com

Coach Stone has been active on the ABL scene and in the High School gyms looking for his next chest pieces. Looking for size and athleticism he has built a pretty solid list of targets. He will compete with SEC and ACC schools for a few recruits but given his past history he has an advantage over many local recruits because he has been working with them for the last 4 to 5 years.

"We want to go after local guys, we want to bring in the best players from Georgia and South Carolina. But we will look outside the SE, North Carolina, Florida and Texas all have huge talent pools for us to attack. We are looking for scorers with size. I want our 1 through 4 to all be threats from any where on the floor and we need size to compete."

      Target list

      *** SF Ray Bozeman
      6'7 Atlanta, GA
      Rank #112
      Position #23

One of the top players in Georgia in a strong SF class, Ray is a threat from the floor wether its 22 feet or at the basket. He has great size but lacks the speed the top tier schools look for. Looks to be one of the first players off the bench at an ACC or SEC school, but could develop into a sound starter with his unlimited potential.

      *** C Collier Meyer
      6'10 Garland, Tx
      Class #402
      Position #30

Many people have overlooked Collier, he had a rough junior year but had really improved his stock after a solid ABL season. He didn't put up the rebounding numbers that would be key, but with time he could get those long arms to pull down 10+ a night. He had great size and basketball IQ and is automatic from inside 7 feet. He was compared to Dwight Howard by one scout during the ABL, but had a long road to find himself in that comparison. Could find himself at a high mid major, a Conference USA or he might find a spot open on a Big 12 school.

      *** PF Jamie Temple
      6'9 Atlanta, GA
      Class #423
      Pos #87

One of the best PF in the South east, between him and 5 star Patrick Day. Excellent in the block, great low post moves, and almost automatic scoring inside. He can also knock down the 3 when needed. An average rebounder, his strong suit is his defense and blocking skills. Could go anywhere from a mid major to a small school.

      *** SG Jaron McFadden
      6'2 Columbus, GA

      Pos #100

Silky smooth off guard can play the 1 or the 2 if needed. He can run the court with the best or pop the 3 if needed. Play style is a lot like Ty Lawson but doesn't have the playmaking abilities. He will find a good home in the Mid Major conferences.

The Bulldogs lose one late, drop to 0-1.

The Boys in Red lost the home opener to in-state Rival Winthrop Friday night after a late second half surge by the Eagles. With a sully attendance of 547 people, and an almost empty student section the Bulldogs held off perennial NCAA tournament team in Winthrop for 37 long minutes leading by 8 points at one time. Behind all-star Everett Spencer and All-Conference Jessie Burton the Boys knocked in three ball after three ball, a team high of 13 made three shots, 4 to start off the game and 2 at the beginning of the second half. In the end it was the low post play that failed the Bulldogs, with Cobb fouling out late in the game Winthrop used it new size advantage to pound the ball inside and pull away. The last three minutes of the game were spent with the Bulldogs playing keep away but a cold shooting streak matched with a 16-4 run to finish the game and the team was sent back to their dorms with their heads in their hands.

Coach Stone told the student press, "We pushed the ball, we ran hard and when it was all said and done I would say you could count this a moral victory, last year we would have been ran out of our gym but now we have them scared to come back. I hate we missed so many free throws, it looked like the basket had a lid on it when we went to the line. We will work hard and come strong to the Smith-Hammond Center Sunday to play Old Dominion." Even if the first game of the Stone Era was a defeat it has created a buzz around campus that a real team has emerged.

                  Bulldogs roll over Monarchs 73-57.

It seems after the heartbreaking loss to Winthrop the Bulldogs had all the pieces in the right places against Old Dominion. Coach Stone was proud of his teams performance, "We came out and I told them before the game that this was a game of respect. We don't have the best reputation around the NCAA, we don't have a ton of fan support but we have a great team. We went out in front of a packed house and beat a Mid-Major team by 16 points, yeah I think the fans have something to say about this team. I love the way we play and I love how our boys go hard to the basket and make things happen. I feel like we could be in every game and even maybe win out from here." Junior Small Forward Everett Spencer continued to have a big start to his season knocking in 5 three point shots and finishing the game with 21 points and a few monster dunks. "You know, I just go at it like an animal, a beast. Ha, I'm just too big, too fast too good, 'aint no one in this conference going to shut me down. Not this animal. 23, hang it, baby!" Over confidence sometimes is a good thing, Everett looks to have another big game against Jacksonville Wednesday night.

                    South Carolina State 84 - Jacksonville 81

South Carolina State Student Courier, Sports Edition

The Bulldogs get second win of the year at the buzzer!!

With just .2 seconds left Carrio Bennett drove down the right side of the court, threw up a prayer and swished the game winning three. The freshmen Shooting Guard was rushed as the crowd poured onto the court to celebrate. "Its good times in Orangeburg. We haven't seen this much fun in my 4 years, I think we have a serious contender on our hands, what a win!" Those were the words of senior Point Guard Derrick Davis, the only senior on roster; he has yet to see a winning season in his 3 seasons as a Bulldog. Jacksonville came into the game as a big favorite, many experts believe they will win their conference this season but have had a false start beginning this season 0-2. The Bulldogs rode the back fo Everett Spencer once again as he dazzled with 23 points and a handful of monster dunks to rally the crowd. However the dunk of the night goes to Julius Carter, he hit a monster jam off of a put back to posterize the Dolphins point guard Ben Smith. The Bulldogs get their second win in high style 84-81.

The mighty Bulldogs fall to the Mountaineers, 89-80.

In a game of fast paces scoring and monster dunks the Bulldogs came out just short of the big win in Boone. The Mountaineers were a very spread offensive team, they had four players in double digits and all but one player scored. The Bulldogs seems to be a one headed monster and struggled when Spencer had to leave the game with 4 fouls. Coach Stone relived the late second half trouble, "We had two guys both gunning for us, but when Everett came out with the 4th foul I had to move Flagler to Sf and he was over matched and all of his shots seemed rushed and off target. He and Spencer both had 50% shooting percentages from the floor, but when you have one or two guys carrying the team eventually you will fall behind. We need to find they third and fourth guy to put up big numbers. Cobb, Bennett, and Burton all could be all three are inconsistent. If we could have all 5 guys scoring 12, 13,15+ points a game we would have an unbeatable offense even on off games."
Everett Spencer lead all scorers with 38 points, and helped keep the team in the game with his clutch three pointers.

The Bulldogs top Iona in the Blackjack Shootout Invitational, 95 - 66.

A full team effort with every player adding something to the winning effort and a great moral victory for a team looking for its chemistry. Of course with any big win comes a superstar to the lead his team to the big win and with every game the man to mention is Everett Spencer, Mr. Do it all as he is proclaimed. Elevating himself to a 58 point game with an almost perfect 3 point percentage and a monster dunk to start the game. The boys in Red took the lead early and ran away with this game, even holding the ball in the 4 corners during the last few minutes of each half to keep from embarrassing Iona more than needed. Coach Stone added a few comments after the game, "This is the win we needed, to say "Hey! We are the real deal, we have our slumps but we can take care of business!" And so we did, we came out hungry, most of the team had never been to Utah but it didn't bring us any trouble. We were prepared, hungry, and we wanted this game. I can promise you a new attitude from here on out."

South Carolina State takes home the trophy in the BlackJack Shootout.

A dazzle, a miracle, a classic. All these could describe the finish to the BlackJack Invitational on Saturday where the Bulldogs' Everett Spencer knocked down a fadeaway with no time on the clock to beat the Tigers of Jackson State. A game that was dead even wire to wire from start to finish the Bulldogs pulled away at the perfect moment to seal their first tournament win in Utah. Another full team effort the Bulldogs, minus an injured Derrick Davis, added quality minutes to the game and each player was rewarded with a tournament win at an arena the team could be playing in come March Madness. Everett Spencer was named tournament MVP after dropping 58 on Iona and then 24 against Jackson State.

                              Recruiting Update

With the signing deadline coming up in one week a lot of small schools are scrambling to secure some big names in the south east, especially first year coach Rob Stone. He had his eyes on a big prize from Georgia in Ray Bozeman who is considering an offer from SCST and Wake Forest. There is a clear choice here but still the offer is enticing Ray, who recently said he is 50/50 on both schools. They have also gotten very tight with another swingman looking at lots of big schools, Erroll Stockman who is a 4 star from Scottsdale, AZ.

Silky smooth off guard can play the 1 or the 2 if needed. He can run the court with the best or pop the 3 if needed. Play style is a lot like Ty Lawson but doesn't have the playmaking abilities. He will find a good home in the Mid Major conferences.

A very athletic swingman who can do it all from the triple threat position. He really excels when he is given the ball in the corner because he can drive and dunk or dish it to the top for a good look. He pulls a double team each night when he is on and is a great rebounder even following his own shot for many put backs.
