The first place Bulldogs win first game of MEAC tournament, 87-74.

South Carolina State took an early lead on Hampton and never looked back, conference player of the year Everett Spencer handed the offense with ease and scored a cool 30 points before fouling out with 6 minutes left in the second half. The Bulldog beg men held the MEAC Big Man of the year Mike Freeman to only one basket and 5 boards while Julius Carter scored 9 points, and Dale Carn added 10. The Bulldogs advance to the semifinals against NC A&T.

Bulldogs blow A&T out in the semi-finals of the MEAC Tournament, 92-62.

With style, grace, and utter dominance the Bulldogs of South Carolina State will advance to the MEAC championship riding on the hot hands of Conference Player of the Year Everett Spencer and freshman Carrio Bennett. A&T looked hopeless and lost as the score at halftime was anything but flattering with the Aggies down more than 20 points at 44 to 20. The Bulldogs never let up as the held the lead of 50 to 22 within minutes of the second half. The Bulldogs will play Winston-Salem state in the MEAC final.

        Stats:

        Burton 10 points, 6 assist
        Bennett 22 points, 2 rebounds
        Spencer 31 points, 7 rebounds
        Cobb 2 points, 7 rebounds
        Carter 2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks

        Bench:

It feels great the be conference champions and headed to the NCAA!"

South Carolina State upsets #4 Maryland, 85-76.

"Easily the best performance of the year, and anyone who doubts us can now sit down. This game was about who wanted it more, at the start we all felt like their early 12-3 run was the end of us but we had a quick time out and we looked into each others eyes and I saw the first and next thing I know the score is 21-21 and both teams are battling. They were deeper than us but we had the heart. Bennett put on a shooting exhibition that left most of their team on the bench and Everett hit a windmill dunk with 1:12 left in the game to add a dagger to their coffin. If we play each game like that it will be hard for us to lose in this tournament."

            Stats:
            Burton 10 points, 7 assist, 1 rebounds
            Bennett 30 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds
            Spencer 23 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals
Cobb 4 rebounds (injured in the first half, but will play in second round)
            Carter 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks

            Bench:
            Davis 5 points, 3 assist, 1 rebounds
            Carn 6 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block
            Flagler 5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assist

*Edited to add I will be playing all NCAA tournament games on MOP*

Bulldogs lose to Auburn on buzzer beater, 76-75.

Sophomores Carrio Bennett and Dale Carn hooked up for and alley-oop with 10 seconds remaining to lead 75-73 over the #5 seeded Auburn Tigers. The SCST faithful were cheering proud expecting another big Bulldog upset but with less than a second left future NBA lottery pick Quantez Robertson nailed a dogger 3 point shot as the Auburn bench rushed the court finalizing the Bulldogs dream season. coach Stone added his words of praise for his team, "We played well, we played hard. They are a great team they played good defense and kept us on our toes all night. We had this one all but wrapped up and you cant be sad over how this finished. I stood in shock but still applauded them for a great effort and a great win."

              Stats:

              Burton 14 points, 9 assist, 2 steals
              Bennett 14 points, 4 assist, 2 rebounds
Specner 12 points, was guarded by SEC defensive player of year
              Cobb 6 points, 8 rebounds
              Carter 5 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks

              bench:
              Davis 8 points, 7 assist
              Carn 16 points, 7 rebounds

"We had him on our watch list after he was domante in the ABL play, even showing up much higher ranked prospects and he is a true leader on the court taking over games. He will give our team depth at PG we will need next year."

                *** PF/C Jamie Temple

                Coaches Notes:
"Mr. Do-it-all of the future for us as he can hammer the ball down low or he can shoot the 3 with ease. He out played high ranked Patrick Day more than once in the ABL and had a lot of ACC and SEC schools looking at him so we took our A game to him and pulled him in early in the season. Watch for him to be a big time player in the MEAC."

                **** Errol Stockman

                Coaches Notes:
"We only saw him play once in the ABL and it was in the semi-finals , but he was easily one of the most athletic and talented players in the ABL. He slipped through the cracks when the big schools failed to offer and we knew he was high on our list. I would like to say he could be the next Josh Howard."

Meet the Assistant Coaches of South Carolina State

From the Head Coach Rob Stone, "I feel lucky to have these guys, I guess some would say this is an experiment. Last season was a roller coaster and I feel like this season we are not only re-tooled player wise but we are upgraded coaching wise. I know I learned a lot from last season and I think I have brought in some guys to help push that new knowledge."

Isaiah Ravello was offered the head coaching job at Appalachian State University and was replaced by Brant Rice a 32 year old who was the Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Georgia last season. He is a very good coach for teaching offense and defense to his players and uses his knowledge of big time SEC basketball to train the SCST boys at bettering their game,

Dalen McKnight has also been replaces as he was offered the head coaching position at New Jersey Tech, a team known for being a bottom feeder in NCAA basketball.

Cam Finley has been brought in to replace him. Cam spent the last 4 years at the Head Coach at Alabama A&M where he was known for his talented teams and a very solid 4 year resume of NCAA appearances with 3 Conference championships. Cam is known as one of the best recruiters in the SE at the mid-major level.

                        Recruiting

                        Rivals.com

Coach Stone has been active on the ABL scene and in the High School gyms looking for his next chest pieces. Looking for size and athleticism he has built a pretty solid list of targets. He will compete with SEC and ACC schools for a few recruits but given his past history he has an advantage over many local recruits because he had been a dominate force in scouting talent and using it to potential, after last season he has turned many heads. "We have a long list of targets but we have a short list of guys who are cornerstones for this team. We have 6 scholarships and I know where at least 3 of them will go.

"We want to go after local guys, we want to bring in the best players from Georgia and South Carolina. But we will look outside the SE, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas all have huge talent pools for us to attack. We are looking for scorers with size. I want our 1 through 4 to all be threats from any where on the floor and we need size to compete."

                        Target List:

                        *** SG Chris Fearing
                        6'6' OVR # 135 POS #42
                        Conway, SC

                        Two words: "Lights Out"
A+ Shooter, Chris lit up the ABL scene scoring 20+ points in each game and hitting over 50% from beyond the arc. Fearing is a local product for most SEC/ACC schools who have taken notice of his shooting abilities as he is from South Carolina. Chris was playing PF in high school because he has good size, but was moved to SG in ABL to accommodate for his scoring ability. "Very Kobe-like, especially with the way he can create his own shot and pretty much make anything from the floor."

                        Murfreesboro, TN

A talented shooter with extreme range, Souchu can hit most shots but has been known to have major cold streaks. He had a good ABL showing but hasn't been contacted by many major schools. He is already a starter for most mid-major schools but it seems he will wait until the season's end for more major schools to offer him.

                        Pontiac, MI

To be from Michigan Denham is taking the first bus out as his offer sheet reads all south eastern states. A very "ice in the veins" kind of point guard. He doesn't the best tool set but he makes everyone around him better. In ABL play Denham was a top assist man in the North and was also the PG in the ABL semi finals proving he could lead his team and be a winner.

Undersized PFs from Pennsylvania for 500 Alex.... Wells fills in a Dejuan Blair mold and that is saying something. He gets a low rank for being undersized but he makes the most of his height and is a solid low post player with a good range to add to his offensive arsenal. However, Wells is know for being a great defender. He actually is a known blocking threat even for his size.

Its almost unfair that Stiggers plays Center like a Point Guard because he is monster in the paint. At 7'3 he is the second tallest player in his draft class and has some of the best rebounding and potential of any recruit available. Could easily be the best center in the country with the right coaching, but isn't being offered by many big programs. "He could be a one and done player, he is that good."

                          Season Preview with Coach Stone

First I would like to thank my team for last season, without their effort, heart and dedication we would not have managed such a miracle run. I hear everyone saying that we are the best team in the MEAC and a potential top 25, but I tell our guys not to listen to all that. We cant start listening to the hype when we need to be focused. If we are to reach the same heights as last season it will take more effort and dedication than last season.

                          Coach Stone on the schedule.

I think the first thing to jump out at you is the 2 week stech where we play Xavier in the first round of the 2k Sports Classic. If we win that game we have the potential to play top 10 Kentucky. We then play top 10 UNC at their place, turn around and play top 5 Texas and then #1 Syracuse. Not to mention we have University of South Carolina and OKlahoma. OK has one of the best players in the country in Blake Griffen so it will be a fun match up with Julius Carter. I think if we play SCST basketball we can over 500 heading into January.

                          Coach Stone on the Roster.

A lot of folks have asked me what i'm going to do with my rotation. I always say that the players who earn their minutes will play. I'm hearing a lot of praise for freshman Errol Stockman he can easily be a superstar, He will be starting at SF. I think Spencer has earned his spot at the 2 guard. I like freshman Jaime Temple over David Cobb at the center spot even though that leave Julius Carter as out only PF on roster. McFadden has been one of the best surprises of this season. We though we might redshirt him this season to better prepare him to lead this team next season be he is more than ready to contribute this season. Telfare is another freshman who will see go minutes on the floor. In out closed scrimmage with Duke he was on of out top scores with 15 points and he also was a stopper on the defensive end.

                          Coach Stone on recruiting.

I know a lot of avid fans follow the recruiting updates and know who we are after and what we want to being in for next season. I've been given 6 scholarships to distribute. We had 50 prospects before ABL play and we narrowed it down the the best 10. Now we are actively working to find the next 6 Bulldogs. I can promise you this will be the best class in the MEAC and will be on to remember. There are 2 guys in particular who not only will start all 4 years but will break records at this school.

Coach Stone on being named MEAC Coach of the Year.

It was a big award to win in my first full season as a coach. But I really owe it to the team as they are the guys who made this happen and they are the ones who lead us to the greatness.

South Carolina State wins 2k Sports College Classic!

The Bulldogs ran through Colorado, 73 to 71; and Western Kentucky, 91 to 65 on their way to winning thier first tournament of the year. Coach Stone added his thoughts, "We played well in both games. The freshman were all impressive and our seniors got the job done just like I asked them."

The Bulldogs beat Colorado on a buzzer beater by Carrio Bennett. The game was a good test as Colorado was full of good shooters which tested the full court defense SCST played most the second half. SCST won easily against lowly Western Kentucky who couldn't buy a basket in the first half.

SCST is now 2-0 and will play Xavier in the first round oh the 2k Sports Classic in Madison Square Garden.

SCST rolls over Xavier 96, 69.

Everett Spencer dropped 41 points as the Bulldogs rolled Xavier to their first loss of the season. "It was one of those games where I could not miss. It feels good to be out here again."

4 Bulldogs scored double figures. Jaime Temple has no collected a double double in each of his collegitic games.

The Bulldogs squeak by #14 Kentucky 84-73.

We were pulling the underdog card the entire second half until Stockman and McFadden both hit clutch 3 point baskets to pull away from Kentucky. Coach Stone played with the rosters and rotations quite a bit as Wesley Telfare got his first start over Errol Stockman and Julius Carter only played 7 minutes. "I wanted to see where everyone was at against a big time opponent. We pulled away with a win and I got a good look at my new boys."

The Bulldogs knock off #9 UNC 102-90.

"I have the most respect for Roy Williams of any coach in America. He is a true stand up guy and a role model...but man does it feel amazing to get a win over a legend like him. We run about the same offense and I think having about equal ability at point guard was the difference in this game. Justin was big for us adding 14 points and 7 assist on top of that and he made great passes with good court vision. Plus McFadden cam in and added instant offense when Burton took breathers."

                                Stats:
                                Burton 14 points, 7 assist, 2 rebounds, 2 steals
                                Spencer 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assist, 3 steals
                                Stockman 23 points, 10 rebounds
                                Carter 5 points, 3 rebounds
                                Temple 8 points, 5 rebounds

                                Bench:
                                Bennett 12 points

                                Cobb 1 block
                                Carn 4 rebounds
