Re: Reporting from the Highlight Factory (Atlanta Hawks - 2K10)
GAME 64:

The (47-16) Atlanta Hawks came to New York to battle against the struggling (20-42) Knicks. This was supposed to be a game where the starters could take a breather as the Knicks have really been struggling. It was far from that. In fact, the Hawks actually came close to losing this in a dramatic fashion.
As many have expected now, Joe Johnson has been staying on fire as of late. Without him, the game would have been a lot different. Scoring most of his points in the first half, Johnson tallied 28 points for his team and 4 assists. It was a near upset as the Knicks were given a last-minute opportunity to make a buzzer beating three pointer and missed. The Knicks have Larry Hughes and David Lee to thank for this entertaining game that must have shocked many fans watching.
The Hawks were outrebounded by a total of 8 rebounds (35-43), and the Knicks also showed their consistency on the line going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe compared to the Hawks' 13-for-19.
The Hawks have definitely shown perimeter defense as their major weakness as they allowed too many jumpshots from the perimeter. They must also toughen up as the Hawks have really been getting outrebounded as of late.
Atlanta's Top Performers
Joe Johnson: 28 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal

GAME 65:

When the Hawks went on a four-day rest, they were expecting to be fully energized coming back. They knew they would need the energy going up against perhaps the hottest team in the NBA. The 33-32 Detroit Pistons were on a 7-game winning streak coming into Atlanta. When the Hawks, who are 48-16, gained a 10 point lead, it looked like the winning streak would end there for Detroit - it didn't. The Hawks could not muster up any energy as they played perhaps their worst game all season.
Other than Jamal Crawford, no one else was able to create any shots on the Hawks' offensive end. And when they did have an opportunity for an uncontested shot, they'd miss it. Joe Johnson had his worst night of the year as he shot an embarrassing 2-for-16 and let many rebounds get away from him. Marvin Williams did not please the fans tonight as he shot a terrible 0-for-5.
The Hawks just couldn't get around the defense. When asked about Detroit after the game, head coach Mike Woodson simply said, "We couldn't score on them. They must have been the best defensive team we've played all season. They knew who to double team and when to double team. Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince should easily be considered as two of the best defenders in this league." Wallace, who is not only regarded as the best defender in the league by Woodson but also from many other coaches, did not score a point. However, he did record 14 rebounds and recorded 3 blocks. He was easily the disruptor on this Hawks' team.
This loss comes as the second one in three games for Atlanta. Lately, the losses have had a common theme. The Hawks have highlighted their weaknesses as perimeter defense and post presence. Tonight, the Hawks were again giving up too many open perimeter shots. They were also outrebounded by 12 rebounds.
With this win, Detroit is now on an eight-game winning streak and is easily one of the hottest teams in the league. They held the league-leading team to a mere 77 points - the lowest the Hawks have scored all year... and we're talking about the highest scoring team in the league, mind you. Detroit is really performing well.

Next Game: The Hawks will look to gain back some momentum going on a two-game road trip. They start in the city of New Jersey where the struggling 32-34 Nets will host the Hawks. The Nets have really been struggling with a 1-9 record in their most recent games.Comment

Re: Reporting from the Highlight Factory (Atlanta Hawks - 2K10)
So I've been having a dilemma in my association because of the developmental drills I've done every month. That, along with the progression and the increase in rating due to team chemistry, has made my players a bit too highly rated. I was thinking of doing developmental drills before, but now I think I'll stop. I'll do the developmental drills in the beginning of every season, but after that, no more drills. I'll rely on the training camp / reward points for more development.Comment

Re: Reporting from the Highlight Factory (Atlanta Hawks - 2K10)
actually ... I won't be doing any reward points at all this offseason. I'll keep my players as realistic as possible, and I already have too many overrated players on my team:
Jeff Teague (75)
Joe Smith (70)
Marvin Williams (79)
Maurice Evans (76)
etc...
Other than that, every one is as realistic as they are in real life.
UPDATE
So here's what I'm doing, and it's definitely a hassle but whatever... I'm re-editing my players every single one of them to the same rating as it was before the franchise started. (I loaded the online rosters back in October or so and copied every rating of every player and basically applied that to my association). I lost all my points in training and progression but I saw some players didn't even progress in my association even if they're doing good, like Stephen Curry is sitll a 69 even if he's regarded as ROTY. So this should even it out more and cancel out my "cheapness" in the developmental drills and what not.
This was basically the thing getting to me on this association (that and the wrong headband colors, but that's not too bad lol). So yeah... Bibby from an 88 will go back down to a 78, Teague from 76 to 66, etc. I might do developmental drills just to boost that player to make him a little more realistic for example, I can already see that Horford's rebounding rating is a bit too low again so I'm going to do one rebounding drill with him and maybe one shooting drill with Marvin and so on... but hte rest of the their developments will have to come through the in-season progression and the offseason training camp drills.Last edited by mattlanta; 02-05-2010, 09:23 PM.Comment

Coming off a disappointing loss against the Detroit Pistons, the 48-17 Atlanta Hawks traveled to New Jersey to face off against the struggling 32-34 Nets. As the fans watched the game, I'm sure many of them turned their television sets off after the first quarter and well into the second quarter as the Hawks had the Nets' number throughout those two quarters.
However, the Hawks found a way to let the Nets catch up. Thanks to a poor performance by Jamal Crawford (1-for-11, 0-for-3 3 PT) and a lack of hustle from the Hawks' bigs, the Nets were able to make it just a one-digit deficit as it was previously a 23-point deficit. Jamal Crawford commented on his performance tonight, "Well I don't really know what to say. I just had a very bad game, and I understand that it's just part of being a basketball player. I'm just very thankful that I have teammates that can pick up my slack for me... that's why this organization is such a great one."
One of those teammates picking up his slack was the team captain Joe Johnson. Johnson scored the majority of the team's points, racking up 33 while also shooting 11-for-13 from the free throw line.
On the other side of the court, the Nets' Devin Harris showed why he is the leading scorer of the NBA. Only playing 30 minutes due to constant foul problems, Harris was still able to score 28 points and proved to be the Hawks' biggest thorn on the side. Fortunately, he was kept out of most of the game or else the outcome might have been a lot different. Sean Williams, a candidate for Most Improved Player of the Year, also dominated the Hawks tonight; scoring 20 points and racking up 17 rebounds. "He was just outhustling every one. He wanted it more than any one else tonight, and he did his best to get just that," head coach Mike Woodson commented.

The 49-17 Atlanta Hawks went up against the 39-26 Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre. Many of the players were exhausted as they just came off a near upset against the New Jersey Nets. Knowing that the season is about to close, however, they know they have to finish strong.
One of those knowing players is Jamal Crawford. After shooting a terrible percentage the night before and having an overall bad performance, Crawford had a dynamite performance tonight. Being that his teammates were forced to pick up his slack last game, Crawford picked up the slack of the Hawks' players today as Al Horford and Josh Smith were kept to a combined 46 minutes as they were both in constant foul trouble. Crawford had 39 points from 15-for-21 shooting and was 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. He recorded another 4-point play also, nearing Miller's record of 4-point plays.
Chris Bosh, the leading rebounder in the league averaging more than 15 boards per game, was held to just 8 rebounds. The Hawks did not want to be out-hustled again tonight. So they worked their butts off and outrebounded the Raptors by 15 boards.
Atlanta's Top Performers

Next Game: The Hawks travel back home to Atlanta. Their next game will be against the Charlotte Bobcats who are 34-33 so far in the season. 6-4 in the past 10 games, the Bobcats have proven to be a very mediocre team this year.
PLAYOFF BOUND: The Hawks clinched the playoffs this week with their 50th win. Coach Mike Woodson claimed that he was very pleased with this team but also said that he reminded his team that this was not the ultimate goal, and that they already knew what was needed to be done after going this far. The Hawks have proven to be the best team in the Eastern conference and thus deserve this playoff berth more than any team in the league.Comment

The Hawks have finally clinched the playoffs. Coming into the game 50-17, head coach Mike Woodson was asked if he would be playing his bench more, and he said, "I think the bench will definitely get more play, but don't mistake that for us not trying anymore in the season. We have a chance to have one of the best records of all time, and we want to really clinch home-court advantage throughout the playoffs instead of just until the conference finals." There was a feeling in the air when the 34-33 Charlotte Bobcats visited the Philips Arena that someone was about to get their butts whooped.
No one on the Hawks disappointed. Al Horford had one of the best performances all season, taking advantage of the Bobcats' lack of quality bigs. He scored 22 points and grabbed 11 boards. He shot at a good clip going 9-for-13 and 4-for-7 from the line. Jamal Crawford led the team in scoring again tonight as he scored 23 points. Jeff Teague also showed a lot of improvement and has really shown that he is ready to take the next step in the league. Asked if Teague's minutes will be increased, Woodson claimed that he was definitely ready for it and that Woodson was looking for more of a "defined" role for him on the rotation.
The Hawks outrebounded the Bobcats by 10 rebounds tonight and also scored 18 more points (48 to 30) in the paint.

Next Game: The Hawks are still the team to beat this season, but they face a formidable opponent in the 46-21 Spurs Sunday afternoon. They will be playing a team that is as hot as they are, perhaps even hotter! The Spurs are 9-1 in the past 10 games even with Tony Parker suffering from a day-to-day hamstring injury. This should be a very good game to watch. Tune in, folks!Comment

The matchup between two of arguably the top teams in the league went down today as the 46-21 San Antonio Spurs visited the 51-17 Atlanta Hawks. Many expected this to be a very close one, but it certainly wasn't. Head coach Mike Woodson told his team that this game would determine whether they were ready for the playoffs. Every one needed to contribute, and that's what they did.
The Hawks in the first half did not have one person going for them, but every one contributed on defense which allowed them to accelerate into the second half. Josh Smith, invisible in the first half, easily became the player of the game just in the second half alone. Scoring all of his 19 points and recording all of his 7 blocks in that half. "Coach just told me to forget about my performance in the first half and to come back strong in the second. Duncan and McDyess are really good bigs, and I just needed to step my game up and focus more."
Marvin Williams also showed massive improvement today in his dribble and drive. Scoring 18 points and recording 6 rebounds, Marvin was also very solid on defense keeping the likes of Manu Ginobli and Richard Jefferson in check. "We've really been impressed with Marvin's development this season. Last year he added a three point shot and this year he just improved his entire game. I don't know what it is, but the kid's really turning into the type of player we drafted him to be."
