      Yale
      December 21st, 2009

Despite the 9-1 record, the Friars are getting no respect, neither in Top 25, or the fact that they are only being considered a potential bubble team for March. So the Friars just did what they always do, take care of business, and beat Yale 74-55 in their last non-conference game.

Brooks had 31 points, and McKenzie added 16 for the Friars.

Zampier led Yale with 27 points in the loss.

The Friars finished non-conference play 10-1, and open up the Big East schedule at Notre Dame (6-3).

        December 30, 2009

The Friars show that they are for real, going on the road to Notre Dame and pulling out a huge 92-77 win. The game was closer than the score indicates, and Providence really pulled away in the last 7 minutes.

Peterson had 32 points and 13 rebounds for the Friars, while Curry chipped in with 20.

Harangody had 48 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.

The Friars (11-1, 1-0) stay on the road to take on St. Johns (6-4, 0-0) on 1/3.

            Orel Feeney

Michigan St. has turned up the heat in the recruiting of Feeney, so it seems despite a miracle this elite prospect may not be coming to Friartown.

The Friars started the game up 12-0 and never looked back on way to a 79-66 victory.

Greedy Peterson had 22 points and 9 rebounds, while Sharaud Curry had 23 points of his own to help pace the Friars in this one.

Evans had 16 points and 15 rebounds for St. John's to keep them in the game.

The Friars (12-1, 2-0) will get a big test against #16 Louisville (13-1, 1-0) on 1/6 on the home court.

In a Big East battle as good as advertised, the Friars were able to come up with just enough fire power to escape #16 Louisville on the home court, 73-66.

Marshon Brooks led the Friars with 27 points and 5 assists, while Greedy Peterson added 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Samuels led Louisville with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

The Friars (13-1, 3-0) next face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-6, 0-1) at home on 1/9.

                  January 9th, 2010

In a game that surprised most around the Big East, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights pulled a big-time upset of the Providence Friars at the Dunkin Donuts Center, 72-69. Providence went ice cold down the stretch, and two Sharaud Curry turnovers in the final two minutes helped seal their fate, as well as a lack of rebounding.

A balanced Rutgers attack helped them pull the upset. Ndaiye (18 points, 14 rebounds) and Chandler (14 points, 12 assists) helped keep the door open in this one.

Marshon Brooks had 26 for the Friars in the loss.

The Friars (13-2, 3-1) next take on the DePaul Blue Demons (10-2, 1-2) on the road on 1/14.

Marshon Brooks showed the will and determination that has helped to make him a Friar legend, as the Friars went on the road and defeated DePaul, 74-59.

Brooks scored 41 for the Friars, and Curry added 9.

Freeland led DePaul with 15 points.

The Friars (14-2, 4-1) will stay on the road and face Marquette (3-7, 0-4) in what should be an easy road win.

The Friars hoped this game would be enough to give them so respect, as they went up to Marquette and dominated the Golden Eagles, 65-51.

Marshon Brooks had 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Greedy Peterson added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Friars.

Lazar Hayward led Marquette with 20 points and 16 rebounds in the loss.

The Friars (15-2, 5-1) return home to face South Florida (6-9, 1-4) on 1/23.

                        Bracketology (1/18/10)

Although still unranked, the 15-2 Friars have put themselves in good tournament position, as Bracketology currently holds them as the "Best of the Rest." (This is in reference to the best teams who would not earn an automatic bid for winning their conference).

I think that I need to take some time off so that I can go back and take a look at "The Dunk" since the remodeling.

I have been a fan of the Friars since I was a kid. They were an independent school back then because there was no Big East conference. Ernie D. and Marvin Barnes were the "stars" of the team.

                            Let's go Friars!

In an uncharacteristically low-score Big East contest, the Friars went back and forth with the Bearcats before pulling away late, 57-50.

Brooks led the Friars with 28 points, and a balanced attack helped the Friars get by in this one.

Stephenson had 20 points for the Bearcats in the loss.

The Friars (17-3, 7-2) stay on the road where they will face #7 Syracuse (17-4, 8-1) on 2/2.
