        ESPN First Take (3/10/2010)

Dana: Our guest right now is preparing for the Big East Conference Tournament in New York, and we welcome Keno Davis, coach of the Providence Friars to the show. How are you coach?

Keno: Well I just love New York, but I love this city a lot more when we have a couple of days off to enjoy it.

Dana: When we first had you on the show you had stated that you wanted to win every night. Well you pretty much did that, how do you feel about this team?

Keno: Well they are a special group of guys. Marshon Brooks is only a junior and is almost a run-away candidate for player of the year. Sharaud Curry has done a great job of distributing the ball. Greedy Peterson did not play for us last year as we redshirted him so he could work on his shot, and know he has great range, so it has been the ultimate team effort, and we should be returning almost the same team next season.

Dana: What are your expectations for the Big East Tournament?

Keno: Well in the Big East, you just never know. One night you go out and beat up Syracuse pretty good, and then the next night you might struggle against South Florida. Every team brings it every night and if we do not bring our A game, we may leave New York disappointed.

Dana: Where do you think you will be seeded come tourney time?

Keno: Honestly I dont think any of us care. We've beaten several top 10 teams, and we know that we can play with anyone you put in front of us. We could be the #1 seed or a #16 seed, we are just going to be happy to be playing meaningful ball in March.

Dana: Alright Coach Davis, best of luck to you and your team.

        Keno: Thanks Dana.

            Big East Tournament Quarterfinals
#9 Rutgers vs. #1 Providence (Big East Rankings)
            March 11th, 2010

Providence started the game up 10-0 and led by as many as 17 in the first half, but a ferocious Rutgers come back led to a tie game at 56-56 with 1:12 remaining. Both teams had opportunities to score, but Rutgers missed a three at the buzzer and this game went into overtime.

Providence struck first in overtime as a Bilal Dixon steal led to a Sharaud Curry layup with 3:56 remaining. Rutgers would be within 2 with 2:21 left on a Ndaiye putback, but Marshon Brooks would extend the lead back out to 4 on a runner with 2:07 on the clock. Again Ndaiye would score, but Peterson's layup with 1:37 left again stretched the Providence lead out to 4. Rosario would hit a jumper and Rutgers would stop Providence to get the ball back with 1:04 left down 2. This is when Johnson would hit a big 3 ball to give Rutgers a 65-64 lead. Undetered, Marshon Brooks would hit a jumper with 37 seconds left to give the Friars a 66-65 lead. Rutgers' Mitchell would turn the ball over with 9 seconds left leading to a Marshon Brooks layup giving the Friars a 68-65 lead with 3 seconds left. Brooks' would seal the game with a steal with one second left and the Friars escaped this one, 68-65.

Brooks led the Friars with 32 points and 12 rebounds, while Greedy Peterson added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Johnson had 17 points for Rutgers, with Rosario adding 16.

The top-seeded Friars return to the Garden to face the West Virginia Mountaineers in the semi-finals of the Big East Tournament tomorrow night.

#4 West Virginia vs. #1 Providence (Big East Rankings)
                March 12th, 2010

Providence led this game from start to finish on way to beating another Big East powerhouse in West Virginia, 74-65, in a game not quite as close as the score might indicate.

Brooks led the Friars with 25 points and 7 assists, while Sharaud Curry added 19 points and 6 assists.

Butler led West Virginia with 31 points.

The Friars have advanced to the Big East Championship Game where they will look for their second Big East Conference Championship. They will be taking on the Georgetown Hoyas.

                    March 13th, 2010

Georgetown completed their miracle run with an 80-59 domination of the Providence Friars to claim the Big East Championship.

Thompson and Monroe paced the Hoyas in the game, with Thompson scoring 21 with 10 rebounds, and Monroe scoring 20 points with 18 rebounds.

Kyle Wright led the Friars with 15 points.

The destination of the Friars (27-5) is unknown, as Friar fans will have to wait and see how their tourney dreams will shape up.

                            #5 Providence vs. #4 Tennessee
                            March 21st, 2010

For Providence, it appears their season was not meant to be as they were left for dead by the Volunteers from Tennessee who ran away with this one in a laugher, 95-54.

Scotty Hopson led Tennessee with 27 points, while Tyler Smith added 17 of his own.

Providence's Marshon Brooks was held to a season-low 2 points in 11 minutes, as foul trouble was a problem all night for the Friars.

This Friars team exceeded expectations and should be a force next season.
