The Legend Of Rich Nice (CH2K8 Closed Legacy)

A year. It had already been a year. Time seemed to fly for Rich Nice, the upstart young coach of the St. Francis (NY) Terriers. After a few years running through JuCo and DII teams, Mr. Nice was handed the reigns to the struggling member of the NEC, and managed to put together a respectable 16-16 season, thanks in large part to his graduating power forward, Stevie Downey. 16-16 wasn't bad, better than expected when he took the job, but still, it wasn't what Rich had in mind for his team, or for his career for that matter. After making a decent impact on the scene with his debut, Rich knew that this season upcoming was his chance to show the whole nation what he could behind the bench. Hopefully this season the Terriers- and Rich- can turn a few heads.

    Team: St. Francis (NY) Terriers
Game: College Hoops 2K8 (Closed Legacy, 13 min. Halves)
    Coach: Rich Nice

    The Starting Five

PG- Timothy Daley- 5'8"- SR- Lightning quick, and possessing great handles, and a nose for getting into the paint and scoring, Daley will yet again be given the reigns to the offense. He'll look to improve on his decent last season numbers of 9.3 ppg, 1.2 rpg and 2.4 apg

SG- Bryan Hernandez- 6'4"- JR- A player who has spent his career coming off the pine, the departure of senior guard Chauncey Bethel has opened up the starting spot for Bryan. Not as pure a shooter as one would like to see from the 2 spot, one can only hope that he uses his slashing ability to create scoring opportunities.

SF- Anthony Hess- 6'6"- FR- The "gem" of St. Francis' recruiting class, freshman Anthony Hess will be depended upon immediately as the teams go-to scorer. A versatile swingman, Hess gives a little bit of everything on the floor.

PF- Bobby Larmond- 6'8"- JR- Forced to play out of position at the C spot last season, the addition of Robinson Castro allows Bobby to slide back over to his more natural 4 position. Look for him to be in his element with plenty of rebounding and hustle out of the local fan favourite.

C- Robinson Castro- 6'10"- FR- Perhaps the biggest question mark on a team full of uncertainties, Castro was a last minute addition when much sought after 3 star recruit Koko Huff made a last second decision to stay close to home and sign with Boston College. Castro brings the much needed length that the Terriers have lacked in past years, but what else will he bring with it? Time will tell.

    The Supporting Cast

PF- Kelenna Wilder- 6'9"- SR- Long, with a good body, Wilder isn't the most versatile athlete or gifted scorer, but he can play all 3 front court positions, and is our best defender.

PG- Glenn Ebong- 6'1"- SO- A change of pace from the speedy Tim Daley, Ebong provides a stronger force from the 1 position, and with his good court vision, the ball will move very freely when Ebong is running the show, as well, his good midrange game will allow him to play off Daley in the back court at times.

SG- Marin Bey- 6'5"- SO- The Terriers resident 3 point specialist, Bey is a deadly shooting swingman who will provide relief for Hernandez and Hess.

    SF- Tony Stiles- 6'7"- 6.4 ppg/ 3.5 rpg

Broken hearts in the Bronx as the Rams drop battle of boroughs in a nailbiter, 85-79

      [L](7-4) [W](6-5)

      Manhattan, NY-
The Fordham Rams walked with swagger into Carnesseca Arena, but maybe they should have brought a little more perimeter defence. From the get go, the Rams had a problem handling the Storm's two sharp shooters, Ryan Clancy who went for 24 points including 5-8 from beyond the arc, and Bernard Hunt who chipped in with 18 and 3 long balls. The Storm came out ready to light things up, and jumped out to an early 21-9 advantage. Fordham Senior star Lou Jensen kept them competetive with his great shooting (22 pts, 6 rbd, 1 ast), and DeAngelo Gansey had 7 points and 5 assists by the end of the half. Still, the Rams went into the locker room trailing 42-30.

The second half is where things got interesting. Bo Pranciiaukas, the Rams starting PF, had to leave the game in the first half with an ankle injury. Once reports came back that it was minor, he was back on the floor. The return of Bo seemed to spark the Rams and they began to close the gap, thanks in large part to Pranciiaukus' great offensive night (20 pts, 4 rbd, 1 blk). The Rams brought it all the way back to 60-59 with 5:09 to go in the second half when freshman shooting guard Marco Pena stepped off the bench and hit back-to-back 3's to give the Rams their first advantage of the game 65-60. Unfortunately, the Rams could not hold off the tandem of Clancy and Hunt, who combined almost all of the Red Storms points in the final four minutes, Down 80-74 when Lou Jensen missed a big 3 with two minutes to go, and the writing was on the wall.

      PERFORMER OF THE NIGHT

      DeAngelo Gansey
      15 pts, 2 rbd, 8 ast, 3 stl, 50% FG

      RESERVE OF THE NIGHT

      Lorrey Carroll (PG)

      4 pts, 1 rbd, 3 assists

      COACHES CORNER WITH RICH NICE

This was a tough loss to swallow. Coming in off such a convincing win over Manhattan, and with such little travel time, I expected the squad to be aggressive and alert. We came out with good offensive tempo but need to seriously work on our rotations on defense, their shooters were killing us all night long. On the plus side, I was happy with the way Gansey ran the offense tonight, and his good shot selection. We need to rely less on Jensen for his 3 ball and use his threatening rnage as a way to work him inside. I was also happy with Tony Stiles hustle tonight (6 pts, 7 rbd, 2 stl, 3 blk) if he can give us that lock down defense and rebounding from the 3 position it should make the whole season and especially the stretch run a hell of a lot easier on us.

NEXT GAME: December 30th, VS. Ohio

If anyone is reading at this point and has any kind of feedback/criticisms of my recap, let me know im open to suggestions of all kinds

Dupre's 28 not a match for Rams balanced offense as Fordham defeats Ohio 98-79

The Bronx, New York- For the second game in a row, the Fordham Rams (8-4) came out against a lesser team and played down to their level in the first half. It was deja vu as Ohio's Joshua Dupre and Hector Colwell lit it up behind the arc. The Rams leading scorer Lou Jensen was struggling with his shot early on, and like all good players, chose not to force his game and instead set his teammates up. The result was 8 assists, a season high, for Jensen, who eventually found his shot and poured 18 points as well. After a physical first half that saw 17 total fouls committed, the Rams found themselves with a slim 3 point advantage, 55-52.

The difference between this game and the one at SJU last week, was all in the second half. The Rams and DeAngelo Gansey (22 pts, 6 ast, 3 stl) came out fired up and began to lay it on thick. Gansey shared his team's top scoring honours with Bo Pranciiaukas (22 pts, 9 rbd, 2 stl, 2 blk) who had his second straight 20+ point game, and came one rebound shy of a double-double. The real story of the second half was freshman centre Cal Strawberry (17 pts, 8 rbd, 3 blk), after a slow first half where he managed only 2 points, 1 rebound and gave most of his playing time to backup B.A. Zahn, Strawberry was a revelation in the second half. Pulling down 5 offensive rebounds and finishing the night with an impressive line. After a shaky start, the Rams gave a performance they can be proud of, and will look to carry the momentum over to next week when they open up conference play against Massachusetts.

        PERFORMER OF THE NIGHT
        Bo Pranciiaukas

        22 pts, 9 rbd, 2 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk

        RESERVE OF THE NIGHT
        Marco Pena

        10 pts, 3 rbd, 1 ast, 2-3 3PT

        COACHES CORNER WITH RICH NICE

Ok, this was more like it. We came out shaky defending the perimeter again, but we were able to lock down, get them to miss some shots and get their confidence down. I was really happy with Pranciiaukas' output on the glass tonight, he's easily the tallest man in my starting lineup at 6'11, but he does not rebound as much as a guy that size should, so this was an encouraging performance. We should have been stomping them from the beginning, so I can't say I'm entirely pleased with the team effort tonight, but there were several encouraging individual performances. I got good nights out of my two freshmen, Cal Strawberry was a force inside with the blocks rebounds and some surprisingly nice post play. Marco Pena has really been a solid surprise for me off the bench, he's athletic and can knock down the outside shot, I see him working his way towards more minutes in the future.

            SPOTLIGHT ON RECRUITING

The Fordham Rams have 2 scholarships to give out for the upcoming 2014-15 season, and they have both been put on the table for two great young athletes looking to transfer from the Junior College level..

Ronell Corrigan (*****)- JC FR- 6'1"- PG: With both DeAngelo Gansey and Lorrey Carrol set to graduate, the PG position is of immediate concern to Coach Nice and the Rams. Corrigan, a 5 star prospect out of Queens, New York, will be asked to step in immediately as the floor general for the Rams. He has had a scholarship offer since the beginning of the season, and Fordham remains his top choice just edging out Rutgers. Corrigan is an athletically gifted young guard, with a good jump shot, above average basketball IQ and a high ceiling for potential. Snagging him is definately the top priority for the Fordham program this year.

Wade Huffman (****)- JC FR- 6'10"- C- Size in the front court is another key concern for the Rams. With Bo Pranciaaukis set to graduate, the big man of the future for Fordham, Cal Strawberry, stands only 6'8". Huffman and his 6'10" frame would make an immediate impact for Fordham, and he has all but signed on the dotted line at this point, with little consideration for other programs, and Fordham the only school to offer a scholarship at this point.

In any case it will be a small recruiting class for the Rams this year, and there are concerns on how narrowly they are pursuing these two players. That said, if they sign on, it bode's well for this young developing program.

Re: The Legend Of Rich Nice (CH2K8 Closed Legacy)

Krogh posts double-double as Minutemen rout Fordham 90-64

"We couldn't buy a basket with a traveller's check, we need to play better perimeter defense, I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but that would be more fun than this loss was". Coach Rich Nice was candid when asked about his Fordham Rams (8-5, 0-1) pitiful performance last night at the Mullins Memorial Centre. From the opening whistle, Fordham was simply not into this one. DeAngelo Gansey (13 pts, 2 rbd, 10 ast, 2 stl) finished with his first double-double of the season- but it came at a shooting clip of just 4 for 15. Lou Jensen (16 pts, 2 rbd, 2 ast, 2 stl) came out and missed his first 4 three-point attempts before finally making one with 3 minutes left to go in the first half.

At the end of the first half, the Rams found themselves down 63-52. Usually a team that comes to play hard in the second half, Fordham proceeded to come out of the locker room and score only 12 points, on 23 total shots. Bo Pranciiaukas (9 pts, 4 rbd, 2 blk) didn't manage double digit scoring after averaging 21.0 in his last 2 games. Fordham was absolutely outmuscled in the paint, losing the rebounding battle 44-24, behind the strength of big night from UMass centre Tim Krogh (16 pts, 13 rbd, 3 blk). All in all, an extremely dissapointing conference debut for a Fordham team that had such a promising start to the season. They`ll look to rebound (literally and metaphorically) against Richmond on the 9th.

              PERFORMER OF THE NIGHT
              Lou Jensen

              16 pts, 2 rbd, 2 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk

              RESERVE OF THE NIGHT
              Lorrey Carrol

              6 pts, 3 rbd, 2 ast, 3 stl

              COACHES CORNER WITH RICH NICE
Not much to say about this one, we just got out played. Every facet, every area of the game we were outplayed. In fact, we were so outplayed that had we won this game, the injustice itself would be too great for the sport of basketball. Some of it can be attributed to it being ``one of thhose nights``. We had some easy layups and open jumpers and we just didn`t get the rolls and bounces we needed out there. Still, that doesn`t explain a 26-point loss to a conference opponent. One positive I can take from all this is Gansey`s assists numbers over the last 3 games (8, 6, 10), I honestly came into the season expecting to split time between Gansey and Carrol, but Gansey has earned the winner`s share with his play. Backup centre B.A. Zahn (4 pts, 2 rbd) has been complaining about his lack of playing time, I`ve scheduled a meeting. At 7`0 he`s the biggest body we have on the team and without him our front court suddenly looks very thin.

NEXT GAME: January 9th, VS. Richmond

Thanks for reading up to this point so far, I just want to note that today was a legal holiday where I live (Toronto) and that is a big reason for all the updates today, typically expect 1 or 2 a day at most, I try to post the game recaps as soon as I`ve played them.

Looking forward to how the A-10 does. I had a 5 year stint at Saint Louis in which I won 3 National Titles with Coach Young over on the 2k forum.

Good luck and I too like your layout.

Rams score first A-10 win of season in low-scoring 65-48 victory behind Pranciaaukas' career night

                        The Bronx, New York-
If you look the numbers, it wasn't pretty. A combined 42 for 108 from the field, 10 for 43 from deep, it goes without saying, both teams missed shots. A lot of them. In fact, going by what's on paper, this isn't an encouraging sign for the Fordham Rams (9-5, 1-1). Despite the victory, all their shooting numbers are down from their previous efforts, and their 28 turnovers was a season high.

But, those of us that watched the game, know that there is plenty to get excited about in the Bronx. Starting with Bo Pranciaaukas (25 pts, 12 rbd, 1 stl, 4 blk), the Rams PF is oft maligned for his poor rebounding output, but tonight, he was a monster on the glass, ripping down 6 offensive rebounds that let to 10 of his 25 points. The Rams needed his big effort as they didn't much scoring else where, the only other Fordham player in double figures was Tony Stiles (10 pts, 3 rbd, 2 stl). And although both teams were sloppy shooting and taking care of the ball, the Rams very much controlled the pace of this game evidenced by the score at halftime, 39-16 in the Rams favor. The second half, Coach Nice took his foot off the gas a bit and played out his bench, with everybody on the Rams logging at least 2 minutes of floor time.

If your a Fordham fan who`s apprehensive about getting excited over this first conference win, let yourself enjoy this one, because your team did earn it. If your a Richmond Spiders fan, no need to panic this early in the season, but stay on your toes.

                        COACHES CORNER WITH RICH NICE
This one felt good. I don`t care about the missed shots, I can live with the low score seeing as how we were dictating the flow of this one from the get-go. As a coach, it`s indescribable the luxury of never having to worry about a game getting away from you, and that`s exactly how this one went. The perimeter defense was a lot better, but Richmonds 6-31 number includes a few open ones that just didnt drop. DeAngelo Gansey (8 pts, 3 rbd, 6 ast, 3 stl) dropped off his scoring tear for at least one night, but his assist and steal numbers are still impressive. Cal Strawberry (6 pts, 7 rbd, 2 blk) had another good night, and another night where he showed just how much he needs to develop offensively. Either way, we`re .500 in conference play, and 4 games up overall. For now.

NEXT GAME: January 15th, VS. Charlotte

Trailing at half time, Rams use 20-point second half to lift them to second conference win

                          . .
The Bronx, New York- This A-10 matchup was a tale of two halves, one close, the other... not so much. Both teams came out energized in the first half, but the 49ers PG Philip Chatman (20 pts, 3 rbd, 12 ast) looked like he was seeing everything in slow motion out there. Worming his way through defenders, drawing fouls and throwing shoe lace passes, Chatman carried his squad to a 5 point advantage going into the half, 43-38. Coach Nice looked visibily frustrated on the sidelines as his team seemed like it was almost struggling at times to keep pace with the run and gun Charlotte squad.

Must have been something in the Gatorade, because the Fordham Rams (10-5, 2-1) came out of the locker room for the 2nd half and flipped the script on Charlotte. DeAngelo Gansey (18 pts, 1 rbd, 9 ast) was pure death in the open court, and Lou Jensen (22 pts, 3rbd , 4 ast) connected on all 3 of his long ball attempts, after goinjg just 1 for 5 in the first half. Bo Pranciaaukas (18 pts, 12 rbd, 2 stl, 1 blk) continued his yeomanesque work on the glass and as an added bonus even offensively-challenged Cal Strawberry (12 pts, 7 rbd, 1 blk) got in on the action with his second double figure performance of the season. The Rams turned the Rose Hill Gymnasium into a track meet, on their way to a 55-point second half. By the seven-minute mark it was 80-65, and this one didn't get any closer as the Rams move to 2-1 in conference play this season.

The first thing I want to do is note the solid play of Tony Stiles (8 pts, 5 rbd). Don't ever expect the guy to be at the top of the boxscore, but he does everything else for me, he handles the ball, he defends and rebounds, and frankly he's been my most consistent player in terms of what to expect from him. Another 20 point effort out of Lou Jensen, who has proven himself to be somewhat inconsistent with the 3 point shot this season. That will be an issue in the stretch run as he's really our only legitimate threat from deep. Gansey returned to his good scoring numbers putting up 18, and Pranciaaukas put up another double-double. Hell, even disgruntled B.A. Zahn gave me a nice effort tonight. As a coach, I've got nothing but good things to say after this one. It feels good to be carrying this momentum into another home game, with St. Bona coming to town in a few days.

Rams rail off 3rd straight conference win, lose Stiles in 89-78 victory at St. Bona'

                            (W)(11-5) (L)(8-14)

                            St. Bonaventure, New York-
Don't look now, but the Fordham Rams (11-5,3-1) are hot. What's most impressive is how they are finding ways to win. Tonight the backcourt of DeAngelo Gansey (16 pts, 5 rbd, 7 ast) & Lou Jensen (15 pts, 3 rbd, 6 ast) came out shooting ice cold from the floor. Normally, the two guards account for most of the Rams points, along with Bo Pranciiaukas (24 pts, 6 rbd, 4ast, 1 blk). In the first half, they just weren't there. No problem. The Rams got a big left from the bench with 2-guard Marco Pena (10 pts, 1 ast) pouring in 8 off the bench in the half and Lorrey Carrol did his part in dishing out 5 assists. This coupled with Pranciaaukas' solid output kept the Rams up in this one, though by the end of the first half it was close at 48-45.

In the second half, the Bonnies came out hitting early and often from beyond the arc, and stretched out their biggest lead of the game, 58-50. As Gansey and Jensen continued to struggle with their shot, the Rams were dealt a devastating blow. Tony Stiles (10 pts, 11 rbd, 4 ast, 1 blk) perhaps the teams biggest "glue" guy, rolled his ankle grabbing his season high 11-th rebound, and had to go to the locker room. The news that came back was grim, a broken ankle and he will be out at least a month. All this was bad enough, but there was still 4 and a half minutes left in the game and the Rams were down 5. Somewhere in the mess of all this, Lou Jensen realized he was here to play an NCAA basketball game, and proceeded to score 12 of his 15 points in the final four minutes. Gansey also had his turn at redemption as he dished out 6 assists in the half, and went 6 of 6 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal this one for the Rams.

                            COACHES CORNER WITH RICH NICE

Well, on one hand, we're 3-1 in conference play. On the other hand, Stiles is gone. On the night of his best performance too. Ouch, just... ouch. To fill in I've got the junior Keon Beeler, who's servicable as rebounder and inside scorer, and Lamar Dean who's on the smaller side but has more of an outside shot. They'll most like share a platoon a the position until Stiles is back. I also plan on using Jensen at the 3 with Marco Pena at the 2 when I want to stretch the floor. Other than Stiles going down it was a good game. My bench really showed up tonight and B.A. Zahn actually had another good game, but I don't really want to get my hopes up about him. He's still grumpy apparently. I'm getting a little tired with Jensen's inconsistent scoring, he always manages to put up decent to good numbers, but sometimes a lot of that will come in garbage time or right at the beginning of the game, and other than that he's cold. Also a note, Gansey had no steals tonight. Not a big deal, but he's been averaging 2.3 a game on the season. Either way, it's nice to be rolling off these 3 wins, as George Washington is probably our biggest test of conference play so far.
