Re: UNLV Runnin' Rebels Legacy (Ch2k8)

          (2-2) @ #4 (5-0)

The UNLV Rebels have started off their 2009-2010 season just how they would like it to. A 5-0 start, nationally ranked at #4 is more than they expected.

This big rival of UNR vs UNLV is always a good one. UNLV is coming off of that huge win against Santa Barbara, and they picked off right where they left off, scoring on their first 5 possessions. Starting the game pulling out to an 11-3 lead, really showed everyone that UNLV is a dominate team this year. But, UNR showed its toughness and would knock down 3 straight 3's to take the lead 12-11. Nevada would shoot 4/9 from 3 point land in the first half. The first half went back and forth, both teams shooting over 50% from the field. (58% UNR, 52% UNLV); Halftime score : 38-33 UNR

Freshman guard, Anthony Marshall, would start the second half scoring the first 7 points, including an ally oop from Tre'Von Willis. UNLV started the 2nd half on a 7-0 run, all 7 points coming from Marshall. Nevada would answer right back, hitting back to back 3's as they have been all game. However, UNLV wouldn't let Nevada take control of this game. They went on a 16-6 run. UNLV would eventually pull away to an 15 point lead, and they never looked back from there. Final score : 75-60 UNLV

Coach Kruger : I was really nervous about our defensive performance in the first half, but at halftime I switched it up to a 3-2 zone as they were tearing it up from deep. That seemed to shut them down pretty well. Our 2 stars played great tonight. (Willis, Marshall) I'm extremely proud of them tonight and I am looking forward to our next matchup. (Washington State).

          UNLV top performers:
          Willis : 22 pts 2 reb 3 ast (4-6 from 3)
          Marshall : 13 pts 1 reb 3 ast 2 stl
          Jasper : 12 pts 4 reb 2 ast 2 stl

          UNR top performers:
          Johnson : 24 pts 3 reb 2 stl (4-5 from 3)
          Shaw : 11 pts 1 reb 3 ast 2 stl
          Kraemer : 8 pts 4 reb 4 ast

Next game : #19 (6-1) Washington State [suffered their first loss of the season @ (4-2) Baylor, 65-59]

Re: UNLV Runnin' Rebels Legacy (Ch2k8)

            #19 (6-1) @ #4 (6-0)

UNLV would come into this game on a 6 game win-streak, shocking the world with wins over big schools. Washington State was on a 6 game win streak, before losing it to Baylor. However, sophomore Klay Thompson was out to prove he is an NBA worthy player.

Right out of the gates, the Cougars looked as if they had been preparing for this game for months. They would start the game going on a 9-0 run thanks to 2 3 pointers by Thompson, and an 'and 1' by Thames. UNLV could not find its offensive rhythm that they have been all year. Washington State was on fire the whole first half, leading by as many as 13 points. UNLV would eventually find its groove with 2:00 remaining in the first half, cutting the lead down to 6. But, the Cougars would of course, answer back with a 3 making it a 9 points game. Halftime score : 36-28 Washington State

Kendall Wallace would start the second half, and he showed Kruger why he would, nailing back to back 3's. Washington State would answer by pounding it down low to Casto. The Cougars would lead all game, but the Rebels cut the lead to 52-51 with 7:52 left in the game, causing Coach Dezaron to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Brown would get blocked by Stanback, causing a fast-break for the Rebels, and would score in transition thanks to Tre'Von Willis, hitting a 3 pointer to take the lead 54-52, the Rebels first lead of the game. The Rebels next possession would also make Coach Dezaron pissed off, as freshman Marshall hit a 3 from the left wing, making it a 57-52 Rebel lead. The Cougars had no answer for that 3 pointer, and eventually would be down by as many as 16 points. Washington State would hit two late 3's but there was not enough time left. Final score : 78-68 UNLV

Coach Kruger : Washington State is the toughest team we've played this year. They are a fun team to play against, and I'm looking forward to setting up a game with them in the upcoming seasons. That Klay Thompson kid is going to be huge for an NBA team one day.

            UNLV top performers:
            Willis : 16 pts 6 reb
            Wallace: 14 pts 2 ast (4-6 from 3)
            Jasper : 11 pts 1 reb 1 ast
            Bellfield : 9 pts 6 ast

            Washington State top performers:
            Thompson : 15 pts 3 ast (3-8 from 3)
            Thames : 15 pts 9 ast
            Enguist : 11 pts 4 reb

Next up UNLV travels to Arizona to take on (2-4) Northern Arizona, then comes back to Vegas to take on (3-4) Fresno State. Also, the latest on NCAA recruiting.

Re: UNLV Runnin' Rebels Legacy (Ch2k8)

              Early signing period has started

              (1) Shagari Osimani- Coach Kruger wasn't so sure about Shagari and where he wanted to play college ball at, and almost decided to cancel his scholarship offer to him. After a phone call with Shagari, he explained that he is going to sign to UNLV and he is looking forward to play for the Rebels.

              (2) Vinnie Batte- Vinnie was Kruger's favorite recruit, as he loved his height [7'1"]. Batte was 100% with UNLV, and Iowa. Both schools have offered him a scholarship, but he explained how staying close to home was important to him. Being from Minnesota, he chose to sign with Iowa. Tough miss for Kruger.

              (3) Fredrick Abellard- All-American power forward, Abellard, would be Krugers best recruit since signing Wink Adams, ever since being the head coach of the Rebels. However, it was going to be a miracle if Fredrick signed with UNLV. Pac-10 power school, UCLA offered him right when the early signing period started. He isn't sure where he wants to go yet, but his top 3 schools are UCLA, SDSU, and UNLV. We'll see how Fredrick chooses.

              SDSU Signings:
              1) Jakob Lang (Junior College freshman transfer) is a power forward out of San Diego. He was rated 4*. At 6'5" he is an undersized power forward, but is great down low.

              2) Derrick Teague (Junior College freshman transfer) is a point guard out of San Diego as well. Rated at 3*. Derrick is a big point guard with long arms and is expected to be a great recruit for the Aztecs.

              WSU Signings:
              1)
Rob Waller, a senior in high school, right out of Boise, ID [Mr. Basketball of Idaho] is a 6'6" small forward, a 4* recruit, overall ranked #37, and #8 at the small forward position. He averaged 9.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in the ABL.

              Army Signings:
              1)
Army landed a good recruit in the early signing period. A 6'10" center out of Brooklyn, NY. Only got a 2* rating but looks to be a huge contender for FOC in the patriot league.

Well at least the Cougs played you tough and gave you a game of it.

I am excited to see how Waller does in the coming years. If Klay leaves early he might be a decent replacement or Klay could move to SG..

Congrats on the win over the Wolfpack as well.

Good luck with the rest of recruiting. Coach K needs to get busy if he is going to make a run to 3 Final 4's and win a National title like the "Tark"

Lang sounds like a possible good get in a couple years to replace Billy. Probably too small though for a starting PF.

Waller seems like he's going to be a great recruit. I think Klay is going to stay for his junior year for sure. Depending on how he finishes out the season, but so far I think he's only averaging like 14 pts a game or so.

Thanks, Nevada and UNLV are the two schools that most kids from Vegas choose to go to, and Nevada got the reputation of being the trashier, more hick-like school LOL. I myself will be attending UNLV next year

I think I underestimated my recruiting skills and aimed low for this year, hopefully next season I can land at least one AA or 5*, if I don't this year. Thanks for replies, Deuce, I try to keep up in your thread as much as you do in mine. I love the layout you're doing with that college gameday thing.

Hopefully he can improve his shot and maybe move to a 2 or 3.
