NICHOLLS STATE MAKES HISTORY, ADVANCE TO FINAL FOUR
Houston, Texas - The Nicholls State Colonels defeated the UCLA Bruins 78-66 today to advance to their first Final Four in school history. The Colonels controlled the game from the start and never looked back, defeating one of the most storied programs in college basketball. Senior Kalu Ager led Nicholls State in scoring with 17 and also grabbed 7 rebounds. Junior Jadee Palmer, playing in his hometown, scored 15 points before fouling out of the game. Freshman Point Guard Prosper Gastel had a huge game with 14 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds and only 1 turnover.
Gastel and Ager hail from Southern California, and were very excited to play their hometown Bruins. Palmer, Huertas, Almond are from Houston and were on a high from winning such a huge game in their hometown.
The Colonels only shoot 30% and didn't get a single three pointer all game but they held UCLA to 27% shooting from the field and 29% from three point land. The Colonels out-rebounded the Bruins 32-23 and committed 8 turnovers compared to UCLA's 12.
The Colonels will face 1-seed USC in the Final Four. The other semifinal will see 1-seed Connecticut taking on 3-seed Clemson.
