FBCB - Savannah State: From Rags to Riches

    Savannah State

Game : Fast Break College Basketball 2003
    Year : started 2003/04, now is 2012/13
    Team : Savannah State University
    Manager : me

    The idea:
Does anyone remember the old FBCB '03? In my opinion a classic...however, I'm playing it in the last few days again. After playing a few seasons with the Hoosiers I wanted something more challenging:
The Basketball program of Savannah State doesn't seemed to be the best, as it was ranked with the Prestige of 0. So, it was my goal - and also the request of the Athletic Director - to improve first of all our prestige. Let's see how far this will go.

Unfortunately, I only got the idea to post this when I was in season 2012. So I'm starting from this point! We now have, after 9 years, a prestige of 17. We also moved from the Independent Conference to the MEAC.

          Worst Case Start for Tigers

In a disappointing December, the Tigers ended up with a 2-5 record. "Actually I think, we've got to get some basis.", said Head Coach _Stevo_. Two years after the fabolous 21-9 season back in 2009, it seems that the Tigers have got more problems than they can solve. "Yes, we're in a kind of mid-life crisis. But: We've made fabolous efforts in the last years. Of course, we cannot proceed like this. I hope that we will, so we'll have to see."

I haven't heard of that game, but it looks like you've got a nice legacy going. Good luck with the rest of the season.

                    DECEMBER AIN'T NO GOOD!

In a even more disappointing december, the Savannah State Tigers ended up with a record of 2-6:

                    Code:
Savannah State 2012 Season December Schedule

                      12.05.12 Grambling (2-8) W 79-46 3-6
                      12.08.12 Morgan State (6-6) L 76-74 3-7 (0-2)
                      12.10.12 at South Carolina State (8-3) L 84-83 3-8 (0-3)
                      12.12.12 VMI (3-4) L 81-54 3-9
                      12.15.12 North Carolina A&T (2-10) W 49-45 4-9 (1-3)
                      12.17.12 Cal Poly (5-6) L 57-49 4-10
                      12.31.12 at Delaware State (6-4) L 88-73 4-11 (1-4)
After the turn of the year, they now have a 4-11 record.
The only two wins this month were both recorded against weak programs like NC A&T and Grambling. However, the blowout against Grambling was quite impressive, a nice 33-point-gap was set between the two opponents.
The reason for the Tiger's struggle this season is mainly the poor shooting (39,8 FG%) combined with too less rebounds (31,1 RpG).
However, there is also a gleam of hope for Head Coach _Stevo_ and his Coaching Staff: Emmauel Pilbean is averaging a team high 12,0 PpG in 26 minutes, also dishing out about 2 assists per game. But also he suffers from a bad shooting touch this season.
"We'll hope, things will improve at the end of the season", _Stevo_ said at the post-game press conference after losing to Delaware State.

                    Season Highs:

                    ___Points: E. Pilbean [12,0]
                    Rebounds: C. Stender [6,4]
                    __Assists: E. Pilbean [2,1]
                    __Steals: D. Rominski [1,1]
                    __Blocks: L. Fant [0,5]
                    Turnover: E. Pilbean [2,9]

                    NOTE:
As you can see, we are losing pretty much! But this will get better, so keep following

                      TOUGH JANUARY UP FOR TIGERS

After a hard december, the Savannah State Tigers now have a quite quiet schedule coming up in January. Despite two losses, that can be expected against the strong Hampton this month, there a some opportunities to win against Howard or Bethune-Cookman.

                        Recruiting preview:

Sources from the Savannah State's management office told reporters today underhand that Head Coach _Stevo_ is going to offer their only scholarship this year to Small Forward Keanu Hoebel from Lexington, Massachusetts.
Hoebel, who is ranked as the Southeast's #21 SF and #86 overall, brings in a lethal threepoint-shot and a solid allround-game. The 6'6'' SF from S.V. Marshall High School made add a good pitch to the existing Tigers team, who suffers this year from a great shhoting lack.
If he accepts, it wold add another part to Savannah State's puzzle. The team, which has risen up very quickly under _Stevo_'s reign could get another improvement for next season.

Okay, as nobody suggested which game to report from, I chose the first and the last game of the January schedule.
Reports against Hampton and Howard will be posted soon.

                          Another updates will come also!

                            Tigers suffer in expected loss

In tonight's game, Savannah State (4-12) lost, as it was expected, against Hampton (10-2). While the 70-52 loss exaggerates the difference between both teams. While Savannah State-Hrad Coach _Stevo_ had been very sceptical about the game even before the tip-off, after the game he was quite angry about the team's ability of running the floor: "We had 16 turnovers, but only 9 assists. That's really ugly, we've got to work on that!" The Tigers also had to loose starting Center Coby Stender in the game. After 16 minutes, he had go out for the bench after pinching a nerve. Docs say he might be out 21 days. Despite he had been a non-factor in the game with 2 points and 1 rebounds, his gap may be too big to fill for Ladarius Fant, although he played very well tonight (6 P, 8 R).

The Tigers mainly lose as they could never control Travis Attales. Despite his ugly shooting performance from beyond the arc (3-13 3P), he put 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to be named the player of the game. He also got back-upped by Benjamin Clore (14 P/10 R/5 A), who put up very solid numbers.

                            Code:
                             Hampton 70, Savannah State 52

                              Tigers cruise past Howard

In a tough competed game, the Savannah State Tigers (6-14) defeated the University of Howard (5-16) 69 to 66.
The Tigers benefited from their better shooting performance, as they were able to erase their loss in the battle of the boards, as Howard grapped 19 rebounds more than Savannah State. This underlined the responsible offensive execution tonight, as the Tigers only gave away the ball 9 times.
After 3 minutes played, it seemed that the Tigers would lose another one, as Howard was already up by 8. But Emmanuel Pilbean with two layers in a row, and Austyn Hape with a three-ball were able to get Savannah State back into the game. From that point, it was a closely contested game. At halftime the score was 37-33 for Howard.
Coming out of halftime, it seemed like the Tigers team had taken sleeping pills in the break. A 12-0 run put up a gap of 16 points between the two teams. But another time, a bunch of players managed to get the team back into the game. Austyn Hape with another three and a lay-up and Ladarius Fant with 4 points in a row made their effort to cut the score to single digits.
Then, the time of backup-PG Osvaldo Redlinger had come: Time to shine. Two quick threes, two And1's lead the Tigers to a 3-point-lead whom they never gave away until the end of the game.
Redlinger recorded 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the game, which gave him the opportunity to be the Player of the Game.
