Re: A CH2k8 Coach Legacy - The Life and Times of Tyrell Coley

        November 13, 2010 - Buffalo, NY - Koessler Center
        (1-0) AT (0-0)

        First Half
Colgate and Canisius swapped the lead back and forth for most of the first half, as neither team lead by more than three points. Mike Venezia only played six minutes in the first half, as early foul trouble kept him on the bench and put Mitch Rolls and Joe Hoban in charge of running the offense. The Raiders and Golden Griffins went into halftime tied 34-34, with Brandon James leading all scorers with 10. For Canisius, Marial Dahl led their team with 9 points.

        Second Half
Canisius made the proper adjustments in the second half, as they came out and opened on a 11-4 run to take the lead for the rest of the game. Despite Colgate's best efforts, a 12-0 run late in the half all but assured a win for Canisius.

        Final: Canisius 78, Colgate 57

Coach's Comments: I'm not going to say we had some calls that didn't go our way that game, because that happens occasionally. I can say that I'm disappointed in our second half effort. We didn't pass the ball well, we didn't attack the basket well, and our defense was sloppy. Just an overall bad effort, but that's what practice is for.

        Assists/TOs......11/5..............25/4
        Rebounds/Off...30/13.............33/11

Re: A CH2k8 Coach Legacy - The Life and Times of Tyrell Coley

November 16, 2010 - US Virgin Islands - St. Pete Times Forum
Colgate (1-1) vs Notre Dame (0-1)

The opening game of the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam was never a contest. Notre Dame opened the game on a 8-2 run and never looked back. It didn't help Colgate that starting center Nick Pascale picked up two fouls in just over a minute. Pascale played just 10 minutes thanks to foul trouble, finishing with just two points and three rebounds.

With no size in the paint, Colgate was assaulted by the Irish big men, who scored 60 points in the paint in the game. Notre Dame bust the game wide open with a 15-4 run, and lead by as much as 36 points in the first half. Shooting 63% from the floor while forcing 10 turnovers off nine steals give Notre Dame a 63-27 lead at halftime.

Despite being in foul trouble for the first half, Chad Johnson still had the best game of his freshman season, leading the Raiders with 18 points and five rebounds.

While Colgate did a much better job in the second half, the damage done was far too great to overcome. The Raiders finished shooting 30% from the field, compared to Notre Dame shooting 57%. They also shot a season high 25 shots from beyond the arc, yet only made six. The biggest stat that stood out was Colgate's 19 turnovers, the key reason why they are heading to the consolation bracket.

Final: Notre Dame 98, Colgate 55

            Colgate Key Players
            Chad Johnson: 18 points (7-15 FG, 2-4 3P), 5 rebounds
John Bradenburg: 4 points, 11 rebounds
Brandon James: 12 points (5-11 FG), 5 rebounds

            Notre Dame Key Players
Ben Hansbrough: 19 points (8-19 FG), 7 rebounds, 5 assists
Jerian Grant: 18 points (6-11 FG), 4 assists
Tom Knight: 7 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals

US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam - Loser's Bracket Round 1
                St. Pete Times Forum

Colgate (1-2) vs Wichita State (1-1)

Colgate was no match for the Shockers, who opened the game on 14-0 run and forced Chad Johnson and Lazar Bogdanovic into foul trouble within the first five minutes of the game. Colgate managed to cut the lead to seven, but that would be the closest they would ever get. Wichita State shot 64% from the floor in the first half and lead 55-34 at intermission.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Wichita State rolled over Colgate to push the Raiders into the 7th Place Game.

Final: Wichita State 100, Colgate 64

Coach's Comments: "We played some very bad defense at points, and we didn't hold onto the ball well. I know we had more turnovers than assists (18 to 15) and you can't do that in expect to stay in the game, let alone win. We need to pick ourselves up and try to win the next one."

                Colgate
                24-63 (.381) FG, 7-24 (.292) 3P, 9-11 (.818) FT
Brandon James: 16 points (5-14 FG), 4 rebounds
Lazar Bogdanovic: 7 points, 7 rebounds
John Bradenburg: 11 points (5-5 FG), 4 rebounds

                Wichita State
                40-66 (.606) FG, 4-9 (.444) 3P, 16-22 (.727) FT
Graham Hatch: 17 points (7-11 FG), 4 assists
Joe Ragland: 13 points, 5 assists
Aaron Ellis: 14 points (6-9 FG)

Next Game: Colgate will look to bounce back in the 7th place game against Illinois-Chicago.

                      Coach's Comments
"It was a tough week for our boys, so I'm glad we were able to end it off with a win. I would have liked to get a win during the tournament, but maybe next year. As for the loss to Marist, we were flat out tired. The game was just two days after the end of the tournament, so flying home took a lot of energy out of our guys. Next week will be tough with Notre Dame, but we've seen what they bring to the table."

                            Week of November 26-December 2, 2010

                            November 26, 2010
Colgate (2-5) at Notre Dame (3-2)

Colgate and Notre Dame met up for the 2nd time in 11 days, and both times ended up in the same result. The Irish were just too strong for the Raiders to play against, taking a 83-58 win in South Bend.

For the third time this season, no player scored in double figures for Colgate. Mitch Rolls and Brandon James each had 9 points for the Raiders, while the Irish had a lot better luck (no pun intended). Eric Atkins had a great game with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Tyrone Nash added 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Tim Abromaitis and Scott Martin each had 13 points. But it was Jerian Grant who led the Irish, coming off the bench to score 20 points in 21 minutes on the floor.

                            Colgate (2-6) at Cornell (1-4)

Colgate bounced back from their loss to Notre Dame by taking down the Cornell Big Red, winning 66-53 on the road. Sterling Melville led the way with 15 points and 7 rebounds off the bench, while Brandon James and Chad Johnson added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Mark Coury led Cornell with 14 points, but the team's 18 turnovers and 18 fouls were too much to overcome.

                            Coach's Comments
"I wish we could have beaten Notre Dame, their a real tough team and really showed it on the floor. I feel our boys are gaining experience, and it's showing now. Picking up the win over Cornell lifted our guys morale."

I really like your weekly layout. I plan on simming a bulk of the WAC schedule this year, and I am thinking I might borrow this layout to post my game results.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Doing the weekly thing makes it easier for me to play more games, I always feel like it takes a longer amount of time when I play one game at a time before updating.
