I will have updates all morning until games start and probably some durining games.

So I will be sure to get in some Top-25 updates as well as key teams, like UNLV.

They played well last year, and I expect the same this year.

      BRONCO'S FINISH A DISAPPOINTING 5-8 IN NON-CONFERENCE MATCHUPS

With a young team, Coach Derozan knew his team would lose some close games, but never did he imagine the kind of results he has seen so far in the 2012 season. After a disappointing loss to Duke at Cameron Indoor, the Broncos traveled to Bozeman Montana where the won the "Big Tree Tourney" improving to 4-5.

But the month of December was a tough one for the Broncos on and off the court. First in-season recruiting wrapped up and Coach Deuce lost out on his prize player 5'11 PG Ramon O'Sullivan the Mr BB from Great Falls Montana.

Coach D-"Landing O'Sullivan was our #1 target. With starting PG T. Nicholas ready to graduate, we felt like landing another PG to challenge FR D. Fields for the starting role next year was huge. We were very disappointed to learn after the Tourney, that O'Sullivan had moved up both WSU and BYU in front of us and both schools were offering."

With 4 games left in the Non-Conference schedule, Coach Deuce hoped that his team could at least earn a split, but that didn't happen either.

The Broncos played in their 3rd and 4th OT games of the year and found themselves battling every team to the wire. Here are the results.

      Dec 6th @ (6-1)

The Lobos entered the game at 6-1 and showed why as they shot 65% from the field and hit 6/9 3pt in the 1st half. Boise State however was shooting well too hitting 58% and actually took a 50-49 lead at the half.

But the Lobos continued to feed the ball to SO SG K. Williams (18 pts 4/4 3pt in the 1st half) and the Soph delivered as he scored a career high 36 points in regulation including the game tying 3pt with 2.8 seconds to force OT.(Tied 83-83).

In the Overtime period BSU was out of gas as NMU dominated the Broncos outcoring them 25-17. Final Score BSU-100 NMU-108
      KEY PLAYERS
      SG D. Wiley-29 pts 6 asst 9/16 from 3pt
      PF S. Hicks-25 pts 7 reb 6 asst 4 stls (11-15 FG)

      SO SG K. Williams-40 pts (17-30 FG 6-16 3pt)
      SR SF P. McDonald-22 pts (4-7 3pt)
      SO PG D. Walker-17 pts 13 asst

      Dec 14th @ #11 (7-1)

Again one would wonder where is the "Defense" as these 2 teams combine to shoot 54% from the Field in the 1st half as BSU took a 42-40 lead. Drew Wiley led all scorers with 12 pts hitting 4/6 from Downtown.

It was the Klay Thompson show in the 2nd half for WSU as the Senior SG scored 10 of his 22 pts in the final 2 minutes to help WSU tie the game and force the Broncos to OT for the 3rd time of the year)

In the Overtime period, it was SR PG R. Moore showing he could light up the scoreboard as he hits 3/3 from 3pt to lead the Cougars to the victory.

      FINAL SCORE BSU-96 WSU-100

      KEY PLAYERS

      SG D. Wiley-27 pts 8/21 3pt
C M. Mbaye-20 pts 12 reb (career high in both, 1st Double Double)

      PG R. Moore-27 pts 11 *** 4/8 3pt (POG)
      SG K. Thompson-22 pts (9-19 FG 2/5 3pt)
      PF D. Castro-16 pts 12 reb
      WSU Bench-32 pts (Enguist-13, Aden-11, Lowick-8)

      Dec 20th vs (4-5)

After 2 disappointing OT loss's on the road, the Broncos returned home to Taco Bell Arena, but things didn't start out any better. BSU shot poorly in the 1st half and trailed 39-44 to the Tigers.
In the 2nd half the Broncos would battle back though behind the play of the "Big 3" (Hicks,Mbaye,Diarra) As the trio combined to score 49 points and pull down 20 rebounds as the Broncos pick up the close win.
      FINAL SCORE BSU-78 PACIFIC-74

      KEY PLAYERS

PF S. Hicks-20 pts 11 reb (3rd DD of the year)
      C M. Mbaye-17 pts 4 reb 3 blks
C A. Diarra-12 pts 5 reb (led the bench in scoring)

JR PG S. Lamar-19 pts 4/5 3pt (off the bench)

      DEC 27TH @ #21 (9-2)

For the 3rd time in less then a month the Broncos travel to take on a team in the Top-25 (Duke and WSU), and like every other BSU game this one would come down to the wire. Boise State would trail 39-41 at the end of the 1st half, as the Huskies connected on 59% from the field.

The Broncos would actually lead by as much as 8 pts in the 2nd half and even had a 6pt lead with less then a 2 minutes to play. The Huskies battled back as PG Isiah Thomas showed why he is considered a Lottery Pick and possible Pac-10 POY. Thomas hit both 3pt attempts to tie the game with 51 seconds to play. Again the Broncos would have a chance to win the game, but fail to deliever as Washington goes on to win the game.
      FINAL SCORE BSU-72 WASHINGTON-78

      KEY PLAYERS

      SG D. Wiley-15 pts (3/11 3pt)
      SF A. Legge-10 pts 4 reb
      PF A. Hicks-17 pts 4 reb 5 asst 4 stls

      PG I. Thomas-12 pts 11 asst
      SG J. Bauer-19 pts 4 reb 4 asst (9-15 FG 1/3 3pt)
(Last Years 5* AA Mr BB from Shorline WA, Rated #18 Overall and #7 SG)

      COACH DEROZAN COMMENTS

"Honestly I am not sure I have the words to describe how I am feeling right now. Disappointment?, Frustrated?, Angry?, Dumbfounded?, Embarrassed? I guess I would say all of them. :o, At this point we can't focus on the past and just have to move forward. We have a long year still ahead of us and if we can find ways to win the close games, we still can make some noise in the WAC and possibly in the NCAA"

I am surprised to see Duke not in the Media Top-25, but yet still ranked as high as #11 by the Coaches. With a 8-4 record I think the Blue Devils are holding onto that ranking because of potential and not by actually earning it "

I can't wait to see how the WCC pans out with Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and San Francisco all battling for a chance at the WCC crown. Also in the WAC, Lac Tech has shocked everyone starting out 9-1 and they have beaten some quality opponents in doing so (Vandy 77-70, and Texas A&M 58-49)

Tell me about it. I like my slider set because I am getting close games, but I want to start winning some of those close games. Seems like I can shoot 45%+ during regulation, but as soon as I go into OT I shoot like 30% and the CPU shoots 80%. I have also gotten burned by a couple of in and out 3's that should've gone in to help me win.

It's all good though. I am almost done playing/simming the WAC games and should be ready to take out my revenge/fustration in the WAC tournament and hopefully that will allow me a repeat trip to the NCAA tourney.

BRONCOS TAKE REGULAR SEASON WAC CROWN!!

After shocking the nation last year finishing 2nd in the WAC and winning the WAC Conference Tourney to secure a NCAA bid under Coach Derozan, the Boise State Broncos had some big shoes to fill if they were going to take it a step further, but they did!!!

After struggling through Non-Conference play losing alot of close games including 3 OT loss's, the Broncos focused on making sure they came to play come conference time.

The Broncos opened WAC play winning back to back games on the road over La Tech and Nevada. They then returned home to beat Hawaii to go to 3-0 in the WAC and 8-8 Overall. However back on the road, BSU suffered a heartbreaking 104-99 loss to San Jose State and then a 68-66 loss to New Mexico State at the buzzer.

Coach D knew he need his team to snap out of it quick with San Jose coming back to Boise for a rematch in just 2 days, and lucky for him they did defeating SJSU and Fresno at home to move back to .500 at 10-10, back on the road again, the Broncos suffer a tough loss falling to Utah State 71-70

Returning home the Broncos again found refuge at Taco Bell winning back to back games over La Tech (85-52) and instate rival Idaho (87-58) starting a 8 game winning streak including a 74-67 win over Utah State on Senior Night.

Here is a is recap of each game.

                              BSU @ LA TECH (W 78-62)
                              S. Hicks/A.Diarra-16 pts each

                              BSU @ NEVADA (W 77-66)
5 players in double digits led by D. Wiley 14 pts

                              BSU VS HAWAII (W 81-74)
                              M. Mbaye-25 pts 8 reb, S. Hicks 11 pts 12 reb

                              BSU @ SJSU (L 99-104)
                              A. Oliver had 34 pts for the Spartans

                                #19 MARYLAND (19-10)

                                #20 WEST VIRINGIA (20-10)

                                #21 PITT (20-10)

                                #22 CINCINNATI (21-9)

                                #24 STANFORD (20-8)

                                #25 WASHINGTON (20-10)

Bryan Scott-"Before we get to the Mid-Majors, what's your take on the Top-25 poll guys?"

AJ Rizzo-Well to me it all starts with #1 Saint Mary's. They flat out dominated this season going 14-0 in a very tough West Coast Conference. The season finale against #5 Gonzaga was one of the best games this season (SMC won 83-82) Beating a team 3 times in the same season is a tough thing to do, so I can't wait to see if these 2 teams matchup against each other in the WCC finals.

Seth Johnson- I grew up in Las Vegas, so for me it is great to see the West Coast representing this year. With 4 of the Top-10 teams in the country coming from out West. Like Saint Mary's, #10 Utah dominated the MWC going 15-1, but I don't think the Utes will have a easy road in the MWC tourney. BYU,TCU and my Running Rebels from UNLV are all battling for a possible At-large bid and a chance to play in the NCAA.

TJ Youngblood- Like AJ and Seth, I love West Coast Basketball and seeing teams among the nations best, but I think the thing that stands out most to me this year in our Top-25 isn't who is in it, but who isn't. Here is my surprise teams who normally would be in a Top-25 at the end of the year.
                                UCLA (16-14)
                                Arizona (16-14)
Florida (18-12 but just 6-10 in SEC play)
UNC and Clemson both 15-16 and just 4-12 in ACC play)
                                Syracuse 19-11, 10-8 Big East
                                UConn 16-14, 7-11 Big East
Ohio State 15-15, 9-9 Big Ten
                                Wisconsin 15-16, 11-7 Big Ten
The Big 12 (only Kansas is in)
More Mid-Majors (only St Mary and Gonzaga are in the Top-25)

                                #1 SAINT MARY'S (30-2)
                                #2 GONZAGA (26-5)
                                #3 MURRAY STATE (24-4)
                                #4 AUSTIN PEAY (25-8)
                                #5 UNC ASHVILLE (24-4)
                                #6 FRESNO STATE (20-9)
                                #7 FAIRFIELD (23-7)
                                #8 GEORIGA ST (21-10)
                                #9 BALL STATE (19-9)
                                #10 EASTERN MICHIGAN (22-8)
                                #11 BOISE STATE (18-11)
                                #12 BUCKNELL (22-9)
                                #13 NEVADA (18-12)
                                #14 PEPPERDINE (18-12)
                                #15 UTAH STATE (17-11)
                                #16 NICHOLAS STATE (18-7)
                                #17 ILLINIOS STATE (19-10)
                                #18 UW-MILWAUKEE (20-9)
                                #19 BRADLEY (18-11)
                                #20 DETROIT (19-11)
                                #21 W. MICHIGAN (17-11)
                                #22 IONA (20-9)
                                #23 SANTA CLARA (15-15)
                                #24 OLD DOMINION (18-12)
                                #25 LAMAR (18-12)

Bryan Scott, so what's your take on the Mid-Major guys?

AJ Rizzo- For me it's the lack of Big West teams. When we were at UC Davis we dominated, but I don't even see a single Big West team in the Mid-Major Top-25 (UC Riverside won the Big West Regular Season Title going 11-5 and 16-12 Overall)

Seth Johnson-Again I have to go with the West Coast theme and give props to the WCC and WAC for having 4 teams each in the Top-25. Like AJ said though I am disappointed with the Big West and Big Sky, hopefully those 2 Conferences will step up. (Weber State won the Big Sky going 13-3 and 17-9 Overall, EWU finished 2nd at 12-4 and 17-10 Overall)

TJ Youngblood- For me it comes back to not who is in it, but who isn't. It was a down year for some teams and many Conferences. The Northeast, Southern,SWAC,American East,A-Sun,Ivy, Sun Belt, and Summitt have zero teams in the Top-25 and some of your tradiational powerhouse schools are absent as well.
                                VCU (18-12)
                                James Madison (17-15)
                                Belmont (21-10)
                                Boston U (20-10)
                                Butler (15-15)
                                Southern Illinios (13-15)
                                Sienna (18-13)

Bryan Scott Okay guy's before we get to the Conference Tournemants, let's take a look at what teams are on the Bubble going into their tourney's and will need help if they are going to get in to the NCAA Field of 65.
                                Georgia Tech (16-12) RPI #33
                                South Florida (19-12) RPI #32
                                Texas (19-11) RPI #30
                                Ole Miss (18-12) RPI #40
                                USC (17-13) RPI #31
                                Michigan (19-11) RPI #36
                                Boise State (18-11) RPI #43
                                Austin Peay (25-8) RPI #56
                                Xavier (19-11) RPI #38
                                Florida (18-12) RPI #42
                                Baylor (19-12) RPI #53
                                Fairfield (23-7) RPI #58
                                Saint Louis (17-11) RPI #49
                                Fresno State (20-9) RPI #48
                                UCF (19-10) RPI #51

Bryan Scott-What schools stand out to you as teams that must win or go deep in the Conference Tourney's to earn a Bubble spot?

AJ Rizzo- It was a down year for the Big Ten and Big 12. I think we will see either Texas or Baylor get in but not both, same with Purdue and Michigan

Seth Johnson-I agree with that, I also think the same goes for the A-10. Xaiver and Saint Louis both will need to go deep into their tourney's and it will be difficult for both teams to make it. It's surprising being how SLU finished #3 in the nation last year and they brought back 4 starters. If they can get in, they might shock somebody.

TJ Youngblood- I look at Boise State and Fresno State. BSU is on a hot streak winning their past 8 games, if they can run the WAC tourney, they will be a team nobody will want to face come tourney time. The Bulldogs are ready to make up for last year's snub when they finished with 20+ wins and were sent to the NIT. If the Bulldogs fail to make a NCAA tourney this year, look at them to make a possible coaching change.
