    BEARS GET MUST-WIN AGAINST LIONS

2/26/14 - Providence, RI: The Bears came out playing like every possession like it was the last which ended up in a 25 point blowout.

"Last time we played these guys we struggled doing a lot of things," said Rogers, "We weren't rebounding or defending their guards. Tonight we excelled in both aspects and it showed tonight"

Not a single starter scored double digits tonight, but 3 players off the bench did.

"We were able to jump on them early so our guys on the bench got to play more and they took full advantage throughout the game. Joe Sharkey in particular had a great game on both ends of the floor."

Earlier today, Princeton won so Brown is still 1/2 game behind in the standings. Brown has 3 more games left to pla
    y and Princeton has
    4 more games left.

"We aren't concerned with what Princeton or anyone else does. All we can control is how we play and we will look to beating Yale tomorrow."

BROWN'S SENIOR NIGHT DOES NOT GO THEIR WAY

2/27/14 - Providence, RI: It may have been the emotions of it being senior night, or it could be that the players felt nervous from being extremely close to their first conference championship since 1986, but the Bears did not show up. Yale would end up with a blowout win by 19.

"I was surprised that we were only down 7 at halftime really," said Rogers, "We had about 3 different players in foul trouble and we could not stop them defensively."

For Dockery Walker and Josh Biber, this was their last game in the Pizzitola Center.

"Yea we put Josh in the 12 man lineup tonight since he is a senior. It was nice seeing score a couple times at the end. That was probably the highlight of the night for us."

This was the first of the 4 Ivy League games today. We will find out later tonight where Brown stands in the conference.

3/1/14 - It is now the best month of the year! With the season winding down, the Ivy League looks to come down to the last few games. Here is how the Ivy League shapes out as of right now.

Ivy League Standings Conference Standings - Updated: Mar 1, 2014

As of right now Princeton leads Brown and Cornell by 1/2 game. Columbia and Yale are on the outside looking in and will need a lot of help to win the conference.

The game of the week will be this Friday when the Princeton Tigers host the Brown Bears. If Princeton wins, Brown will technically still be alive but will need Princeton to lose their last 2 games and Cornell to either split or lose their last 2. Obviously, Brown will need to beat Dartmouth the next day if they lose to Princeton.

However, if Brown wins, there is good chance of a tie at the end of the year. There could be as much as a 4-way tie for 1st place. For that to happen, Cornell will have to lose their last 2 games to Yale and Columbia. Both Columbia and Yale will have to win their other game against Penn. Brown will have to win one and lose one. Princeton will have to lose 2 and win 1 game.

The possibilities are endless so after the set of games friday are finished, it will be clearer about what the situation will be like for each team. Or maybe, it will get even more confusing.
“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”

FRESHMAN JOEY WHELESS PUTS TEAM ON HIS LARGE BACK

3/5/14 - Providence, RI: Joey Wheless, freshman 7'0 big man for Brown had a career night in a big win at Princeton. The Bears, who were down 6 points at halftime, came out in the second behind Wheless, and outscored Princeton by 18 in the second half.

"That was a huge win for us obviously," said a smiling Rogers, "We played an absolutely perfect second half in my opinion. Joey having 29 had a lot to do with that."

On the other side of the court, Princeton had a player who they relied a lot upon. Bobby Garbade, who averages 23.5 ppg only 8 points last time these two played. Tonight, he was a little more aggressive.

"We had a tougher time guarding him tonight and he hurt us especially in the first half. We were able to contain him a little better in the second half."

Cornell also won today which puts them and Brown at a tie for first place in the Ivy League with Princeton right on their heels. Columbia is also just 1 game behind Cornell and Brown. Cornell will face off against Columbia tomorrow and Brown will go against Dartmouth.

Re: What can Brown do for you? (CH2k8)

*This post will explain the rules of the Ivy League in the event of a tie at the end of the season.

              • If at the end of the season, two teams are tied, they will play a one game playoff. The winner wins the conference championship.

              • If there are 3 teams that are tied at the end of the season, the team with the best head-to-head record will get a bye while the other two teams play. The winner of that games faces off against the team with a bye.

              • If there is a 4-way tie, I'm not exactly sure what happens as it has never happened in Ivy League history. I am guessing that there is just a 4 team playoff.

As it stands there is a chance for all 3 of these options to happen. The problem is that on College Hoops 2k8, there is no tiebreaker. 2k gives it to the team with the best overall record between the teams that are tied. If my team (Brown) is involved with a tie, I will proceed by playing a game between the two teams in a quick match (still coach mode). I will export my team and then create the other team(s) by editing the roster in the main menu. Once I find out who wins the conference, I will manipulate the conference to make sure that the team that won the conference wins in the actual legacy.

If Brown is not involved in a tie, I'll just let the team with the better overall record win. I won't go through the trouble if I'm not involved.

This maybe confusing so if there are any questions go ahead and ask.

3/6/14 - It is the last day and Brown is about to head out onto the court against Dartmouth. There have already been two games played today so let's see what the update looks like.

With the win for Cornell, they are now in the driver's seat. It also knocks out Columbia from winning the conference. Brown will need to win today to tie Cornell. Princeton will have to win today against Harvard and next week against Dartmouth in order to tie Cornell.

"Now it is up to us to win," said Rogers. After asked about the Cornell win, Colby Rogers left and went into the locker room with nothing more to say.

BROWN COMES UP BIG IN MUST-WIN SITUATION

3/6/14 - Hanover, NH: The Brown Bears needed to win this game in order to have a chance to be the conference champion. They seemed to enjoy the moment more than be anxious as they used a dominating performance from Daymond Ravello to beat Dartmouth.

"Daymond's shooting was a big reason we won today," said Rogers, "Him hitting 7 3s is a career high for him. I'm not sure how much to credit him due to their defense but he still put the ball in the basket."

Once again, Brown proved to be unfazed by Dartmouth's triangle & 2 defense as they put up 79 points and hit 12 3s.

"We feel that we have gotten comfortable against there zone and we do a good job in attacking their weak spots."

With this win, Brown automatically has a shot at winning the conference in a tiebreaker. Princeton still has two games left against Harvard and Dartmouth. If Princeton wins both of their games, there will be a 3-way tie for first place.

"We are excited for the opportunity to play for the championship. Whoever it is we play, we will be ready."

Princeton was able to beat both Dartmouth and Harvard en route to becoming the 3rd 10-4 team in the Ivy League. This will be the first 3-way tie since the 2001-02 season (the only other 3-way tie ever).

The rules of the tiebreaker in the event of a 3-way tie state that the team with the best head-to-head record gets a bye while the other two teams play. The Brown Bears were able to sweep both Cornell and Princeton and will get the bye.

"We are obviously happy that we got the bye and will be ready to play both teams," said head coach of the Brown Bears, Colby Rogers.

Princeton will host Cornell for the first game due to them having a cooler arena than Cornell.

When asked whether or not he would be in attendance, Rogers said, "I would not be anywhere else. Me, the other coaches, and the players will all be in attendance to scout both teams."

“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”

Congrats on getting the three way tie, and the bye along with it. Just one more road to cross, good luck and win the Ivy League!

Thanks man! I'll try my best to win. It would be really disappointing to lose now especially after the success we've had in conference play.

GARBADE LEADS PRINCETON TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

3/11/14 - Princeton, NJ: Bobby Garbade, the player most believe will win Ivy Player of the Year, dominated once again leading the Tigers to a 15 point victory.

At halftime, Princeton was only up one point. With 10 minutes left in the game, the Tigers went on a 12-0 run and Cornell did not score for nearly 7 minutes.

Tomorrow night, the Princeton Tigers will face off against Brown in Providence, Rhode Island.

"I can't wait to host the Tigers tomorrow night," commented Rogers, "We are very excited at the opportunity to play tomorrow."

The winner of the game tomorrow night will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and the loser will get to watch the tournament at home.

HUGE SECOND HALF RUN GIVES BROWN CHAMPIONSHIP

3/12/14 - Providence, RI: In front of a sellout crowd, with 13:20 left in the game, Princeton was up 55-52. Then over the next 6 minutes, the Bears went on a 17-0 run and never looked back. The Tigers would only score 7 points in the last 13 minutes.

"We hit a 3 in 3 straight possessions, 2 by McGonigil, and from there we just took over," said an elated Rogers, "Up until that run, it was really close the whole game. There was a point where Princeton got a 7 or 8 point lead early in the second half, but other than that, it was neck and neck."

This marks the first championship for Brown which came in
1986. This also marks only their 3rd NCAA Tournament appearance, also the first since 1986.

"At the beginning of the season we had a team meeting to talk about the goals for the team. To actually acc
omplish that goal is absolutely huge. I can't explain how this feels."

After two very rough seasons that had its highs and very low lows, the Bears came into the season with high expectations after a great recruiting class.

"I think the first time that I thought we might actually have a shot at the conference championship was when we almost beat Michigan. We definitely did not play our best during the best non-conference, but we steppe
                              d up when it mattered."
