Re: What can Brown do for you? (CH2k8)
ROGERS STILL LOOKING FOR FIRST WIN
11-24-11: Coach Rogers went into the game making it a point to try and stop star player John Shurna. While Brown held Shurna to 6-14 shooting, they did not do their job down in the post and against Drew Crawford. Taylor Wright ended up getting into foul trouble early in the second half and after when Wright left, Crawford seemed to get most of his points.
"When scouting Northwestern, we as the coaching staff decided it would be best to put our big man on Shurna even though he plays the 4" explained Rogers, "The problem with that is, Tucker [Halpern] is not a great post defender and we were at a disadvantage down low. We also threw in a little 2-3 zone just to try and mix it up and hopefully disrupt the flow on offense a little."
Going into halftime, Colby Rogers and the Bears seemed to have run their gameplan very well keeping the scored tied at 30-30.
On the offensive side of the ball, Tucker Halpern led Brown in scoring with 18 even though he was held to 4-11 and 0-3 from behind the arc.
"The coaching staff told me before the game that I was going to have a tough time scoring tonight and that I just needed to be patient" said Halpern, "Shurna is a really good defender and he made me work for every point I got."
"The goal was to try and get Shurna into foul trouble so we got the ball down low to Halpern on some backdoor cuts. We did force Shurna to get 4 fouls, but they were sporadic throughout the game so it did not force him to miss much time." said Rogers.
Rogers emphasized to the team how important rebounding the ball would be to win the game.
"I told them that if we can keep them from getting second chance oppurtunities and give ourselves second chance oppurutunites, we would have chance tonight. Unfortunately for us, that did not happen."
Northwestern ended up grabbing 8 offensive rebounds and got 12 second chance points whereas Brown did not have any second chance points. Also, Northwestern had 14 fast break points to Brown's 0 fast break points.

Tough start, but you "should not have" won any of them, so things are still looking fine. The main thing is to take care of business in conference.
I hope Princeton does well in this in addition to your Brown Bears!
The Ivy League was fun back when I coached in it years ago in my legacy, although the lack of a conference tournament was kind of irritating at times.Comment

Re: What can Brown do for you? (CH2k8)
FIRST HALF STRUGGLES KEEP ROGERS FROM FIRST WIN
11-28-11 - Indianapolis, IN: Maybe coach Rogers should have done what Norman Dale did when he first went into Hinkle Fieldhouse in the movie Hoosiers. After all Norman Dale did win more games in Hinkle Fieldhouse than Colby Rogers currently has.
"They really showed us why they made it into 2 straight championships. They played hard-nosed defense and they came with a plan on offense" said Rogers, "We [the coaches] went into the game worried about Butler's stellar defense and post play, rather than their offense. We left there, impressed with their defense, their post play, and their peremiter players' offensive abilities."
Butler, who started off struggling with a 2-4 record, forced 16 turnovers on the Bears. Butler also out-rebounded the Bears 31-23.
"Butler just out-hustled us tonight, especially in the first half" Rogers stated, "Having to go into the locker room at halftime and implore them to play hard and smart is the worst thing a coach can do. If your players are not hustling, everything you have done before that is pointless."
Colby Rogers' players obviously got the message and actually won the second half by 1 point.
Maybe coach Rogers should have pulled out the tape measure to get his team ready before the game. Or maybe his pregame speech should be like the one Norman Dale gave to his players in the state semi-finals. Whatever needs to be done, Rogers better do it fast because no one likes to be 0-5, even in the small conferences.

BROWN GETS FIRST WIN IN BLOWOUT FASHION
12-1-11 - Providence, RI: No one knows if Colby Rogers really did pull out the tape measure, but whatever he said or did the past couple of days worked. Brown came out of the gate very strong and never let up winning by 25.
"I don't know what got into my kids today; but whatever it is, I hope it continues" exclaimed a very excited coach Rogers,"It feels good to get that first win. Now I am looking for more of those on a consistent basis."
Brown did about everything right tonight and even out-rebounded UC Davis by 22.
"I feel like we were the aggressors out there tonight and that we kept the same intensity throughout the game" said Tucker Halpern (14 points, 7 rebounds), "We went into the game with a purpose and a gameplan. That has started to become a motto around here 'Play with a purpose and have a gameplan.'"
Everyone on Brown played double digit minutes and everyone scored. Now with the early signing period coming up tomorrow, coach Rogers is looking for victories on and off the court.

*After this game I made a couple changes to my sliders to try and even things out. After that I played this game again in a quick match (still coach mode) and the box score is wrapped in the spoiler tag. The game went into overtime and was 10x more exciting even though it didn't even matter.
Spoiler
The box score shows only the statistics of the game during regulation. If I had the whole game including overtime, it would have scewed the stats.
