The Return of a Legend. (CH2K8)

This will be my final College Hoops thread. My plan is to showcase the career of B.J. Dezaron, my first fictional coach I created back in 2007 on the 2k forums. I am going to use the orginal OS named rosters from the 07-08. I will sim the first 4 seasons, and recap highlights and records for Coach Dezaron. I will then start game by game recaps for the 2011-2012.

I will be taking 5 player caps per year. The first players will be in the 2011 recruiting class.

My hopes are to continue this thread for as many seasons as Coach Dez can go until he retires. Similar to what Coach Frizzell (SuperJames) has been doing. Who knows maybe I will surpass 100k views but hopefully it is comments that I get. Always appreciate the feedback and support. It's the readers that makes it all worthwhile to post.

Thanks for your past support and looking forward to seeing where Glory Road take Coach Dez this time around.

    2007..

Good Evening and Welcome to Sportscenter. Tonight we head out west where it was just announced. Coach BJ Dezaron has just been named the Head Coach at Sacremento State.

Coming off a 10-19 Overall record and a 5-11 finish in the Big Sky. The fired Jerome Jenkins and will replace him with 24 yr old BJ Dezaron. Dezaron has never coached at any college level, however this is what the AD had to say about the hiring.

CSUS AD "Coach Dez doesn't have any expierence on the sidelines, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have any strengths. He has a great offensive mind, he loves reading scouting reports and attending ABL games and he knows how to sell players on his system and the school he represents"

Coach Dez "Each year I give myself several goals. For the 2007-2008 season I want to finish at least .500. I want my players to enjoy playing for CSUS, and with 6 scholarships I want to land some impact players for our program."

HORNETS HAVE HUGE SUCESS ON AND OFF THE COURT!!

The Hornets started off winning their first 3 games before finishing non-conference play at 5-8. However behind the play of JR SG Loren Leath and SO C Justin Eller the Hornets would finish 3rd in the Big Sky going 10-6. The Hornets would enter the Big Sky tourney on a hot streak having won back to back games and cruise through the quarter and semi finals only to have to face (21-7) Montana in the Championship game.

Behind 31 pts and 13 rebs from Justin Eller the Hornets would pull out the upset beating Montana 81-77, to recieve a 15th seed in the NCAA tourney.

CSUS would fall 91-67 to Wisconsin in the 1st round, but Coach Dez had this to say about his team.

Dez "I felt the guys played great. Going in we new the Badgers would be the toughest team we faced all year, and it would take our best game to win. We didn't play it, so now we will focus on what we can do and that is to find great players for next year"

    COACH DEZARON LANDS 6 PLAYERS!!!!

The offseason was a busy one for Coach Dez as he lands the #98 Overall Class in the nation by Scouts Inc, signing 6 3* rated players including 5 from the state of California led by 6'1 PG Ugonna Bazin rated (#190 Overall/#57 PG) and 1 6'6 Frenchman in Kirsten Paker.

Coach Dez "Landing Bazin and Parker give us 2 instant starters next to Leath and Eller next season. The rest of the guys will battle for the 5th starting spot and be our top reserves off the bench. Obviously have only 2 other players returning on our bench, gives all the guys a chance to play major minutes and be a huge impact to our team"

Other important info from the 2007-2008 season.

UNC wins the National Title over Tenessee.

Coach Mark Few leaves Gonzaga to take over Arizona.

                2008-2009 Recap

Going into the season Coach Dez knew improving on a 18 win season and a 1st round appearence in the NCAA tourney would be a difficult task, especially with 6 freshman on the roster and 3 of them starting. However leading the way would be last year's Big Sky COY Justin Eller (19.8 PPG 9.8 RPG) and SR SG Loren Leath (15.8 PPG 38% 3pt), so Coach Dez knew they would still have a chance to be competitive.

The Hornets would struggle dropping their first 5 games in back to back non-conference tourneys, however after some adjustments to the rotation and playing time, the Hornets were Buzzing!!. CSUS would win 6 of their next 7 games to finish non-conference play at 6-6. The duo of Eller and Leath would again prove deadly to their Big Sky foe's as CSUS would go 12-4 to finish the regular season with a 18-10 record and the #1 seed in the Big Sky tourney, getting a bye until the Semi Finals. After a 20 pt win over N. Colorado, the Hornets would get a rematch from last year's game with #2 seed (18-12) Montana setting up a chance for Coach Dezaron to pickup a 20 win sesaon.. Eller would flat dominate the game scoring 41 pts, grabbing 8 rebs and blocking 3 shots as he led his team to back to back NCAA appearences and get Coach Dez his goal of 20 wins.

Even with 20 wins, CSUS would still recieve a #15 seed and would face Providence in the 1st round. The Flyers came out flying as 4 players scored over 20 pts as CSUS fell 101-67, ending their great season.

With SR Loren Leath graduating and with 3 other scholarship available, Coach Dezaron knew he would have a busy offseason, but some major shakeups in the coaching carosel made his life even busier..

Coach Dezaron signs a 3 year contract to leave the Big Sky for the WCC.

Coach Dezaron would only have to travel less then 90 miles down I-80 to his next coaching stop.

Coach Dez "My orginal plan was to stay at CSUS until my 3 year contract was up, however I couldn't turn down the chance to come to USF or the WCC. For a Mid-Major Conference the WCC has proven with the success of Gonzaga and Saint Mary's that we make a showing in the NCAA tourney and USF has proven in the past that we can go all the way. (NCAA Champs in 1955 and 1956)"

Moving teams didn't mean that offseason recruiting was over for Coach Dezaron, as he still had 2 scholarships to hand out, and the first person he called was 4* SF Spencer Viegas. Coach Dez had first contacted Spencer after noticing that the larger schools were shying away because of some off court issues, and quickly had CSUS among his Top-3 schools. With the chance to still play for a coach who believe in him along and now to be able to play in the WCC for USF, signing with the Don's was a no brainer for Viegas. Viegas was the #100 Overall Recruit and #21 SF.

With the signing of the 6'5 Viegas and 3* 5'10 PG Marcello Simms (#172/#66 PG) The Don's finished with the #48 Overall recruiting class.

                  2009-2010 SEASON RECAP

Coach Dezaron left behind Big Sky POY Justin Eller and Big Sky FOY Al Stokes at CSUS, but gained returning WCC POY Dior Lowhorn (22.5 PPG 5.8 RPG 1.0 BPG) and former 4* (#82 Overall/#16 SF) SO 6'7 Regis Warshaw to go along with 4* FR Spencer Viegas (#100/#21) to have a solid trio in his starting lineup.

The Big 3 would dominate early going 11-2 including a championship trophey in the Cable Car Classic entering WCC play as a favorite to upset Gonzaga and break the streak.

Coach Dezaron new offense would surprise the WCC as the Don's avg 88.8 PPG as they finished 11-3 to tie Gonzaga for the regular season title. USF's 22-5 record also got them national notice as they climbed into the Top-25 at #24.

After cruising by Portland and Pepperdine in the WCC tourney, the Don's would face the Bulldogs for a chance at the WCC crown. Gonzaga would pull off the 78-77 win, but Coach Dez wouldn't let his team get down on themselves.

Coach Dez "This just leaves us some goals on the board for next season. We did alot this year with a non-conference championship, we repeated with 20+ wins and we got into the Top-25" Not to mention we will be making a 3rd trip to the NCAA tourney for me"

USF would continue to add to Coach Dez's Career Goals as the Don's would claim a #6 seed for the tourney and beat #11 UNLV in the 1st round 69-64. However their joy would be short lived as they faced #2 Kansas in the 2nd round losing 102-93. Dior Lowhorn would score 41 pts and grab 11 rebs in the loss, his last game as a NCAA player.

Coach Dez" It was great to see Dior play so well in what became his final game. He was a great player and will be missed"

                  USF RACKS UP WCC AWARDS

Again Career Goals were met for Coach Dezaron as he was named WCC COY. Dior Lowhorn (21.7 PPG 6.8 RPG) would be named back to back WCC POY and FR Spencer Viegas as named WCC FOY (7.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG 1.6 APG 38% 3pt). SO R. Warshaw was named 1st team All-WCC (12.4 PPG 4.4 RPG 47% 3pt).

                  COACH DEZ SIGNS 3 BIG'S..

With the graduation of Lowhorn and a already lack of depth at PF/C. Coach Dezaron went into the offseason looking to use all 3 of his available scholarships on 3 bigmen, and he would succeed.
                  3* 6'9 Norman McKowen (Rated #171 Overall/#7 C)
                  3* 6'10 Julio Cain (Rated #207 Overall/#32 PF)
                  "Alaksa's MR BB"
                  3* 7'1 Cary Queen (Rated 262 Overall/#14 C)
Coach Dez "Landing all 3 guy's for us was huge, literally.. McKowen will instantly replace Lowhorn in the starting lineup and Cain has a great chance to start as well, and who doesn't want a 7'1 bigman coming off the bench."

USF recruiting class ranked #53 Overall, giving Coach Dezaron 3 straight Top-100 recruiting classes for his first 3 seasons.

                    2010-2011 RECAP

Again USF would come out strong winning their first 4 games including home wins over Oregon and Nevada, before facing Coach Dezaron's toughest challege yet (#11 7-0) Georgetown. The Hoyas would dominated the Don's handing them their first loss of the season.

USF would go to beat BYU and Utah State (A 100-99 thriller). Before heading of to play in the Hawaiin Island Classic. USF would drop the opener to UTEP, and then in the consolation bracket lose again to a Top-25 program (#14 7-2 DePaul).

USF would then rebound by winning the Shamrock Office Solutions Tourney as well as getting revenge against Coach Dez's former team (Sacremento State) with a 82-62 win over the 3-9 CSUS team, to finish 11-3 in non conference play and were ranked #3 in the Mid-Major Poll.

USF WINS WCC REGULAR SEASON TITLE

The Don's would finally know Gonzaga off their top spot, as they beat the Bulldogs 87-85 in the final regular season WCC game to finish 10-4 just 1 game ahead of Pepperdine and Saint Mary's. (Both 9-5).

USF would then go on to beat Portland in the opening round of the WCC tourney before facing a very tough SMC team. However a 83-80 win woud put the Don's in the title game against Pepperdine (19-12). The Wave's were looking to earn a spot in the NCAA tourney, well USF 23 wins already had them securing a at large berth.

Pepperdine would fail to contain the USF offense as the Don's ran wild in a 112-84 win.

COACH DEZARON HEADING TO HIS 4TH STRAIGHT TOURNEY!!

For the 4th straight year Coach Dez would be taking his team to the Big Dance. This time around the Don's would recieve a #7 seed and have to face a very tough #10 seed in Arizona State. The Sun Devils are led by SR SG Joe Harden. (21.3 PPG).

For the 2nd straight year at the helm of USF, the Don's would advance to the 2nd round after a 84-82 win. 5 players would score in double digits led by FR Center N. McKowen (14 pts 9 reb). Joe Harden had 19 pts in the loss.

However a 2nd round matchup with #2 Cincinnati and National POY Nate Aldridge would prove to much for Coach Dez's team, as they fall 76-75. Aldridge would finish with 36 pts and 12 reb in the win.

                    #5

                    THE WILDCATS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPS

Villanova hadn't won a National Title since 1985, but with a 75-71 over #1 Flordia, the Wildcats pulled off the upset.

LOTS OF COACH CHANGES BUT COACH DEZ STAYS PUT.

Win 4 straight appearences in the NCAA and a 88-40 Overall record many thought Coach Dezaron might be the top name on most schools list and he was with offers from Old Dominon, Western Kentucky, North Texas and James Madison, but Coach Dezaron is staying in California signing a 3 yr contract extension with the Don's.

Coach Dez "We have a good thing going here. With 3 open scholarship's and only 1 graduation (SR PG M. Strong), we have a chance to come back next year and not only defend our WCC Titles but take that next step and make it to a Sweet-16 and beyond"

                    NOTEABLE COACHING CHANGES

                    J. Calhoun retires from UConn and is replaced by B. Cremmins (Coll Charleston)

Texas Tech D. Loos retires and is replaced by B. Taylor (Old Dominion)

Auburn fires J. Lebo and hires J. Shulman (Western Kentucky)

South Carolina D. Odom retires and is replaced by B. Stevens Butler

Butler hires B. Kennedy from Murray State.

Sacremento State's T. Cannon leaves to take over at North Texas. CSUS replaces him with J. Mejia a assistant at Texas A&M CC who just went 25-2 and was a #6 seed in the NCAA tourney.

COACH DEZ MAKES COACH HISTORY AGAIN.

Coach Dezaron might not have lead his team past the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney, but he did accomplish yet another first in his young coaching career. FR Center N. McKowen (13.7 PPG 5.3 RPG 2.1 APG .9 BPG) was named the NCAA FOY. He was also joined on the NCAA All-Freshman team by teammate PF J. Cain (12.7 PPG 4.1 RPG 1.8 APG 1.0 BPG). Coach Dezaron also was named WCC COY for the 2nd straight year and a USF player was named WCC FOY for the 2nd straight year as McKowen took home that award as well. McKowen was named to the WCC 1st All-WCC team as well as the WCC All-Freshman. Cain was named to the 2nd All-WCC team as well as WCC-All Freshman.

TEXAS LANDS #1 CLASS FOR 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR.

The Texas Longhorns would land the #1 Recruiting class in the nation for the 2nd straight year, however the team to watch out for over the next 4 years will be Michigan State. The Spartans landed the #1 Overall Recruit 6'2 B. Guide the Mr BB from Illinois, he will be joined in the backcourt by fellow state native 6'6 B. Jalkins. Jalkins was ranked #3 Overall and the #2 SG.

Georgetown will also be a force in the Big East as they land the #2 Class full of 4-5* AA and 3 Mr BB. Arizona State, Cal and Georgia Tech round out the Top-5 Classes.

Other important recruiting notes. San Diego finished with the #40 class, Gonzaga wth the #43 and Pepperdine with the #59.

COACH DEZARON LANDS #23 Overall Class.

For the 4th straight year Coach Dezaron lands a class in the Top-100 and for the 3rd straight year in the Top-50, but now he has a new goal. A Top-20.

Once again Coach Dezaron goes outside the state of California to bring in a High School Mr BB. This time it's 6'11 Ronnie Carrato from Great Fall Montana. Carrato was a 4* Recruit, ranked #53 Overall and the #1 C in the nation. However he will have a tough time getting into the starting lineup with McKowen and Cain coming off solid season's.

Instead look for either 4* 6'4 SG Branske Powell (Ranked #48 Overall/#14 SG) or 4* SF Chen Weber (Ranked #83 Overall/#17 SF) to possibly crack the starting lineup as Coach Dezaron shuffles with the graduation of starting PG M. Strong.

All 3 players put up huge #'s in the ABL.

                    Carrato-14.3 PPG 10.3 RPG
                    Powell-15.8 PPG 42% 3pt
                    Weber-17.8 PPG 46% 3pt.

Coach Dezaron comments on this year's class. "Orginally our plan was to look at guy's for the backcourt, but after losing out on 5'11 PG J. Forbes (#4 Overall/#1 PG AA Mr BB CA) to Cal, we turned our attention to the best players interested. After land Carrato and already having McKowen,Cain and the 7'3 Queen coming off the bench, we had to turn down 6'10 E. Cassler the #91 Overall/#2 C from Billings MT, which hurt because he later signed with Gonzaga, so we will seem him the next 4 years. Well we might have missed out on landing a starting PG, all 3 of these guy's will someday start games for us and be a valuable addition to our team"

Okay. Sorry guys change of plans. As much as I have enjoyed the success I had well simming the last 4 seasons, I have missed out what I love so much with a closed legacy, and that is the building up of a small team and the game to game struggles to pull out the W.

So I am going to shut down, this thread and start a new one. I am going to use a 2011-2012 roster set and pick a team off the closed legacy list and showcase my career from start from finish.

I will still be using the Player Caps, however you will go into the recruiting class for 2012-2013.
