In the Year 2007...
It's official the Texas State Bobcats have decided to sign Jeremy Wolfe as their new basketball head coach after firing Doug Davalos a few months ago. A lot of speculation rose but no one knew that Wolfe would be the selected as the new head coach.

Coming off a 10-20 Overall record and a 4-12 finish in the Southland Conference. The fired Doug Davalos will be replaced by 26 year old Jeremy Wolfe. Wolfe has never coached at any college level, however this is what the Athletic Director Dr. Larry Teis had to say about the hiring.
Teis: "Coach Wolfe is exactly the kind of coach we need here at Texas State. He doesn’t have in college coaching experience but he makes up for it in his accomplishments with the mindset of defense wins championships he has won two high school state championships and an ABL championship when he coached in the league for two years. He has that win big or go home mentality and that’s what we love in him.”
Coach Wolfe: "I’m excited to be here and I’m ready to take on the responsibility. I always give myself a goal before each season starts every year. For the 2007-08 season I want to finish at least .500 with no less than 18 wins. I want my players to enjoy playing with me and each other, and with 5 scholarships I want some impact players to commit to our program."
The Bobcats started off winning 3 straight; this includes winning the Air Force’s Hangar Challenge, finishing the non-conference with an impressive 10-4 record. However Texas State was hit with a stroke of bad luck for they lost their leading assist man JR PG Corey Jefferson and 3rd leading scorer SR SG Brent Holden to devastating injuries (strained abdomen and broken foot) causing them to lose 7 games straight. The Bobcats finished 8th in the Southland Conference going 7-9. Texas State would enter the Southland tourney on a hot streak having won back to back games and push through the quarter and semi finals ending their tourney in the Championship game by defeating Nicholls State 82-75.
The Texas State Bobcats’ Big 3 (JR SG Brandon Bush, FR SF Cameron Johnson, and SR SG Brent Holden) dominated through the Southland tournament with Bush averaging 20 ppg 72% 3PT, Johnson averaging 19 ppg 7.3 rpg, and Holden averaging 19.3 ppg 41% 3PT lead the Bobcats to a Conference Championship.
With a Tournament Championship the Bobcats received a 15th seed in the NCAA tourney facing #2 seed Indiana. Texas State would lose to Indiana 103-68 in the 1st round with Indiana’s Eric Gordon scoring 32 points.
Coach Wolfe: "We’re gonna keep our heads high because this season we worked hard. We lost two important pieces at the worst time, but we fought back to earn that last spot in the Southland Tourney and we won it. We accomplished a lot even though we didn’t come close to beating Indiana. We set ourselves with goals and we achieved them."
With hard work and dedication FR SF Cameron Johnson was named Conference Freshman of the Year and him and FR C Johnathan Sloan both earned a spot on the Southland All-Freshman Team.

The offseason kept Coach Wolfe very busy trying to land players to replace his 4 graduating seniors. Recruits were signing to rival schools left and right, so Coach Wolfe had to turn up his recruitment or he won’t sign anyone. He did all he could and he was able to land 3 3* rated players; 6’4 SG Edmund Sockwell (Overall #115/#27 SG), 6’7 PF Lennox Nabors (Overall #355/#49 PF), and Junior College FR 6’8 PF Fredrick Jefferson. Also we landed 2 2* rated players; 6’10 PF Clinton Pettyjohn and 6’5 SG Rodrick Waleskowski. 3 recruits are from the state of California and the rest are from Texas, they are lead by Sockwell a very dominate all-around player, who averaged 18.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals per game in the ABL.
Coach Wolfe: "This was a very tough recruiting year many recruits were going to rival schools, but I’m happy we’re still able to land Sockwell. He was quite impressive in the ABL hopefully his game will continue to be impressive at the college level otherwise he won’t be starting over (Brandon) Thomas at the shooting guard spot. He will be the only one who battles for the 5th starting spot or be our top reserve off the bench, because the other recruits won’t be better than (Cameron) Johnson; he starts at power forward."

An underdog story unfolded in the tournament where #10 Kent State would face #10 Syracuse in the National Championship Game but Syracuse ends Kent State’s underdog story winning the NCAA Championship 80-55.
