We struggled on defense in the first quarter, but played lock down defense for the rest of the game. Offense was iffy today, but Copeland and Reddick hitting jumpers gave us enough. Gordon scored 5 straight in the 4th, when we were down 4, to put us up for good. Offense went through some struggles, but our defense was able to carry us to a solid win.

      Positives:
      1. Defense- Lockdown for the last 3 quarters
      2. Copeland- Davis was in foul trouble, and Copeland provided much needed scoring. He even did a solid jump banging down low, for longer than he is use to.
      3. Teamwork- We contiue to lead the league in assists as we do a great job of sharing the ball.

      Negatives:
      1. PGS- Vasquez and Bynum have to be able to make open shots when Davis, Gordon, and Copeland are doubled. If they can't drain those looks it hurts our offense, expect the Pelicans to look for a PG that can shot as soon as the deadline, and definitely expect a change at PG next season.
      2. Noel- He played good on defense and on the boards, but we aren't even getting him the ball and offense and he is missing his 2-3 shots at the rim every game. We need some offense out of him, but he has been great on defense.

Before this game the Pelicans were just one game behind the Thunder in the west. The game was close in the first quarter. The Thunder opened up a 14 point lead mid-way through the second. We cut into it thanks to hot shooting by Gordon from downtown. Early in the 3rd quarter we got a 6 point lead. The Thunder came back and the two teams proceeded to go back and 4th until just over 5 minutes left the Pelicans trailed 92 to 90. Durant got a 3 point play which started a 23-3 run by the Thunder to finish off the game and make it a blowout. We fought hard, but couldn't overcome our issues.

        Positives:
        1. Noel- His most aggressive offense game of the year as he scores a career high 17.
        2. Gordon- His 6 3's lead us back and kept us around in the 2nd half.
        3. Limiting Westbrook- Russel shot just 5-18 from the field.

        Negatives:
        1. Defense- Everyone but Russel killed us, we had no answer to Durant as our of outside defenders are too small to body up Durant.
        2. Offense- Outside of Gordon and some inside scoring by Davis we struggled to score in the half court. Our PGS continue to be a black hole on offense. This issue will need to addressed.
        3. Turnovers-23! 23 against the Thunder resulted in dunk after dunk on the fast-break. Our PGS can't score or hold the ball, quite the issue.

Player of the game: Kevin Durant 36 points 16-28 FGS, 8 rebounds 5 assists, 7 steals 2 blocks

          Pelicans Sign Metta World Peace

The Pelicans have signed Metta World Peace to a 1 year 490 K deal, as he is still being paid by the Lakers after being released from the Lakers with an amnesty buyout in the offseason and he went unsigned. He will get limited mintues, as he will just take Austin Rivers mintues at the start. Metta will bring toughness to a young team. He gives a guy to matchup with people like Durant who noone on our roster can guard. Rivers has been nothing on offense so the Pelicans figured to get a lockdown defender for that spot. If Metta can play well, he can earn a bigger role.

We got off to a great start on both sides and had a 13 point lead. The Pacers led by Granger dominated the 2nd and 3rd quarters as they play intense defense and got enough offense. Our offense exploded in the 4th quarter, thanks to a decision to go small and put Davis at center with Copeland, JJ, Gordon, and Bynum on the floor. This lineup spread the floor beautifully which got us open looks. Davis played lockdown defense on Hibbert and sparked a few transition opportunities. The Pacers cut into the lead, but we put it away late with defense and timely shots and free throws.

Player of the game: Eric Gordon 27 points 5 rebounds 3 assists
Xfactor: Chris Copeland 22 points off the bench. He sparked our offense at times we had nothing go.

                Positives:
                1. Offense- We shared the ball well, made open jumpers, and dished the ball. We had a nice game against a strong Pacers defense.
                2. Rebounding- We held a strong Pacers rebounding team in check. We beat them up on the boards in large thanks to Noel and Davis who did a good job in the paint.

                Negatives:
                1. Would still like to cut down on turnovers.
                2. The Pacers got a lot of great looks from 3 point range. If they made some more open looks we could have been in trouble.

We came out strong and played a great first quarter led by 3 transition buckets by Tony Allen off great defense. Our defense collapsed after that, and all of our perimeter players struggled to score all day, this was a good old fashion blowout.

Player of the game: Joe Johnson 38 points- crazy efficient from the field.
Xfactor: Reggie Evans and Humphries killed us on the offense glass and killed our momentum with big rebounds.

                  Positives:
                  1. Nerlens Noel- He was more aggressive on offense and made some tougher shots than usual. This was his best offense performance of the year and is flashing signs of improvement.

                  Negatives:
                  1. Defense- We couldn't stop Dwill or Johnson and when they didn't score they created for others. 119 points is horrible, inexcusable.
                  2. Offense- Everyone besides Davis, Noel, and Copeland stunk, not going to do.
                  3. rebounding- We got destroyed on both sides on the board.

Re: Respect the Brow! Respect it! A Pelicans Dynasty

Staggering 4 way Trade Shakes up NBA

The LA Lakers are 9-27. Dwight Howard left them for the Bucks, the Bucks. Kobe spoke out saying he was going to test the free agent market as he wanted to win. He was disgruntled when they lost Howard to the Bucks and the team's performance got him angry. Steve Nash also wanted out. The Lakers decided to move them to contenders. Kobe's 30 million dollar was tough for anyone to make work, the only team where it could work was the Pistons who had 29 mil in open cap space, who are 19-18 and only a half game out of the 8 seed. The Hornets have been struggling on offense when Gordon is doubled Vasquez has been bricking the open jumpers. They decided Nash was the perfect fit to run the point. This allowed them to join the conversation. Meanwhile the Grizzlies are also in the lottery, and Detroit needed a SF. Prince returns for a title run, and Stuckey gets the Grizzlies an expiring. That is the background on how this deal came down. Enough talk, here's the trade:

                      lakers trad:
                      nash(pelicans)
                      kobe(pistons)
                      augusto lima(pelicans)
                      Darius Morris(Pelicans)

                      Pelicans trade:
                      Vasquez(Pistons)
                      Rivers(Lakers)
                      Will Bynum(Lakers)

                      Pistons trade:
                      1st(Lakers)
                      Singler(lakers)
                      Knight(Lakers)
                      Middleton(Lakers)
                      Stuckey( Grizzlies)

                      Grizzlies trade:
                      Prince(Pistons)

Here are team rosters after the deal.

                      Pistons
                      PG: Vasquez/Caledron
                      SG: Kobe/McLemore/Rudy Fernandez/Kim English
                      SF: Prince/McLemore
                      PF: Monroe/Jerebko/Payne
                      C: Drummond/Turiaf/Kravtsov

                      Pelicans:
                      PG: Nash/Morris
                      SG: Gordon/Allen
                      SF: Reddick/Copeland/MWP
                      PF: Davis/Copeland/Augusto Lima/Lance Thomas
                      C: Noel/Kaman/Stiemsma

                      Lakers:
                      PG: Knight/Bynum/Blake/Duhon
                      SG: Meeks/Rivers
                      SF: Earl Clark/Singler/Middleton/Ebanks
                      PF: Gasol/Malcolm Thomas/Drew Gooden
                      C: Jordan Hill/Mason Plumlee

Besides the main story lines they are other underlying things in this deal. After vetoing a deal to the Pistons, they were the only destination so Kobe waived his no trade clause. The main thinking was if he didn't like Detroit he could leave after the season. The inclusion of WIll Bynum shocked many people, it was commonly thought that Klezia's expiring would be included. However Bynum expressed dissatisfaction with the Pelicans and New Orleans and the Pelicans didn't want any part of bad chemistry so they decided to give a younger backup a chance who is signed to a cheap 4 year deal. If Morris doesn't work out the Pelicans would have the space to sign a vet PG like Livingston, Farmar, or Davis as backup options as the playoffs get closer. Detroit also gets Vasquez who will be their PG and will play a key role in getting Kobe and the bigs shots, if also gives them a younger guy that can help long term. Prince gets to go home to try for another ring with the Pistons. Grizzlies were in this for cap space. The Pistons did gamble but they still have young pieces in Vasquez, Monroe, Drummond, McLemore and a lot of cap space if Kobe leaves. The Lakers start rebuilding get 3 young guys who can step in for them and be rotation players and maybe starters now and next year. The Pistons were willing to deal what they did because this happened in January and they get an extra month to get back in the eastern race and have more time to gell. That helped to motivate the Pistons according to reports. Pau Gasol is on a 1 year deal and the last man standing with the Lakers, they will try and move him before a deadline, but his 19 million dollar salary will be tough to match. What we know for sure is that this is one of the biggest deals we have seen in a long time.

This game was back and forth throughout. Steve Nash was dishing like crazy with 17 assists and Gordon was lighting it up shooting 12-15 from the field. This was a fast paced game, with both teams trying to get up and down the floor. This game was back and forth throughout with the biggest lead being 12, that was gone a minute later on a 8-0 run by the Twolves. Throughout the 4th it was close, we were done 1 with a minute left, when Gordon cut to the rim and got a 3 point play. Love tied it with a dunk. Gordon drove and sunk a short jumper with 36 seconds left to give us a two point lead. We got a stop and Nash hit 2 free throws. Off a Tony Allen deflection Rubio drained a stepback three with 8 seconds left to make it 109-108. Nash was able to invade the defense and take a key 4 seconds off the clock. Nash hit both and Rubio's half court three bounced off the front rim as the Pelicans won.

Player of the game: Eric Gordon 31 points 12-15 FG, 4-5 on threes
Xfactor: Steve Nash ran our offense great dishing out 17 assists in his debut

                        Positives:
                        1. New guys fitting in- Nash and Morris both fit in and did a very good job filling their roles. It is clear that the Pelicans have upgraded at the point.
                        2. Bench- Kaman and Copeland provided solid scoring. Morris ran the offense with Nash out, Metta and Allen bring defensive energy.
                        3. Rebounding- We dominated a Love and Pekovic front court on the boards, good work.

                        Negatives:
                        1. Defense-108 points is too many. at times we offered no resistance.
                        2. Turnovers- 24 turnovers, the new guys took some time to get in the flow which is understandable, Nash won't have 7 tos every game, but Copeland as a pick and roll and catch and shoot guy can't have 6 turnovers.

                        Around the league:
Mavs lose OJ Mayo for 4 to 6 weeks
Denver lose Mcgee for 1 to 2 weeks
In third game after the big trade, the Pistons get their first win by beating the Heat 102-84

The first half was close, we blew them out and dominated them in the second half, this was our best all-around performance of the season, kudos to everyone. Stats should do most of the talking.

Player of the game: Steve Nash 23 points 11 assists, shot a staggering 11-13 from the field.
Xfactor: Nerlens Noel- 13 points and 16 rebounds, played a key role in anchoring our defense as Davis had foul trouble much of the game.

                          Postives:
                          1. Great all-around play. We played well in every facet. The turnovers are still a tad up there, but with the fast style we play this number isn't too bad and when we are stroking like we did today, we will be fine.

Another coast to coast blow out by us. Another great all-around performance. I hate to be so breif, but the last two games have just been great all around play. This was a team effort. positives all around no complaining today.

Player of the game: Steve Nash 12 points 15 assists as he keeps on sparking us since we traded for him.
Xfactor: Chris Copeland 21 points off the bench

After the game the Pelicans have cut Metta World Peace and signed Dominic Mcguire. Metta was shooting 19% from the field as the Pelicans. Mcguire is a very good defender and is younger. World Peace said "it was fun being with the Pelicans, too bad it didn't work out. I've got lots of better things to do that Im free again"

The Pelicans picked up their 4th win in a row since the Nash trade. This game was close early on, but we blew it open in the second quarter and it never got close. Kaman came out hot and we ran our second unit offense through him with 17 first half points. Kaman finished with a season high 27 points. We rode him and the second unit for most of the second half after the result was clear. Allen had 8 points 8 rebounds 2 steals and his usual defensive intensity off the bench. Mcguire had 4 points 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block off the bench. He played great defense and it will be tough for another teams to score off us when him and Allen are in the game. Morris had 7 assists and 5 steals running the backup PG. Copeland had a double-double off the bench as well. Nash had another double- double in just 24 mins. All positives again, no complaints from me. After 3 easy game our schedule gets very tough as we play the Knicks, Spurs, Grizzlies, Warriors, and Heat to close out the month of January.

Player of the game: Chris Kaman 27 points off the bench, we ran our offense through him a lot of the game, which allowed us to get a lead.
Xfactor: Great play from our bench on both sides of the ball.

                              Next up: @ Knicks(22-18)

                                Nets get Zbo

The Nets are 27-12, just 2 games behind the Heat, despite Reggie Evans averaging below 4 points per game at PF. The Nets decided they wanted to boaster their chances in the east by adding a tough presence down low who can score and rebound. The Grizzlies are 14-28, the second worst record in the west. Ed Davis has been the 6th man all year and the Grizzlies want to to give him a chance. The Nets acquired Zach for Kris Humphries expiring contract, Mirza Teletovic who was immediacy waived by the Grizzlies and the Nets unprotected 2015 first round pick. Zach had a big player option, so Memphis gets cap space for next year and they get thw 2015 pick which provides an asset for a team that needs to retool. This is the second big trade in January, expect more and more trades as we get closer to the deadline.
