Maybe redshirt them this year?" Coach Wilson thought. He and his assistant kept banging their heads against the table until they found out the solution to their problem!

Here is your Maine Squad for the 07-08 Season

Coach Wilson kicked off his coaching career this past week end as his team participated in the 2k sports college hoops classic tournament. The black bears started off against the richmond spiders and things didn't look pretty for them as they fell 55-66 to richmond. Following the next day they would bounce back and get their first win of the season by dominating the painting and playing stifling defense against the skyhawks. Here is what coach wilson had to say after the tournament was done.

" We had our ups and down during both of those games but it show us what we could accomplish this year.' Said coach wilson " We don't have any great shooters but what we do have is a team who can score at will inside of the paint. It let's us play more inside-out basketball and I think that will be big for us"

              Never Count Out The UnderDogs

Orono, ME - The shotclock slowly comes to a stop....as one team jumps around and celebrates while the other holds their heads down in despair. What a game between to small schools here tonight St. Francis[NY] faced off against Maine both 1-1 coming into the game tonight and only one left with that glorious "W" attached to their record. At the end of the first quarter the game was close Maine had the lead only by three points. Things happen to take a turn for the worst for the black bears as they seem to loose momentum and St. Francis seemed to gain it. Both teams battled back and forth till the very end until turnovers started shifting the game towards St. Francis hands. With less the a minute left to go in the game Maine turnover the ball atleast 3 times and missed all opportunities to clinch the game.

A reporter caught up with Coach Jackson-Wilson after the game to see what he had to say

Coach Wilson: " We just have to find a way to win these close games. We had the chances to put this game away late in the 2nd quarter but we didn't. Turnovers really killed us and missing those golden free throws that could've either tied or put us up by alittle. You win some and you loose some, and tonight we lost!"

Thanks for following! and I think this season will be tough since most of the entire team can't shoot 3's lol so it looks like I will have to get my points in the paint alot.

Providence, RI - American East vs Big East.....one team from each side square off here in Rhode Island tonight. We saw a game that proved to everyone that the small schools can sometimes hang with the big boys! Sophomore shooting guard Mark Socoby went off tonight scoring a season-high 26 points for the black bears all while coming off the bench. One has to think if it wasn't for this young man effort tonight that maybe we could be looking at a different score right now. Maine controlled the game in the first quarter but it was the restless effort by providence that got them the victory. They went out in the second quarter and played lights-out basketball racking up 48 points in the second quarter alone. Their top scorer also came off the bench tonight to help support his team, junior shooting guard Weyinmi Efejuku racked 19 points in just 12 minutes of play. The black bears were close to clinch yet another close game but the turnover bug made yet another appearance and stanched away the victory from right under their nose.

Tough loss to Providence. That would have been a real nice upset to have gotten. Great game from Socoby though. Any chances he might crack the starting line-up?
