          Michael Kane - Life & Decision's

Dad's Got My Film - National Exposure
I entered the house and saw my saw my dad on the internet. On YouTube to be specific. This was a rare occasion because my dad was never really into technology so with curiosity I stepped into the office.

"Hey dad, you and computers? What's the occasion?"

"Ohh hey Michael. Just the one I wanted to see. I'm constructing your highlight video. I'm almost complete."

"Oh great. You got the footage from Central?" I asked.

"Yep as as well as some footage from your middle school years."
My dad spun in the chair and faced me. "You see Michael this is the year you're really going to want to step your game up. You've got all the tools you need right now especially at Polk. They're gonna be traveling around the US playing some of the best teams in the nation and you've been chosen to be apart of that journey so you've gotta be prepared for that."

"Yeah I understand. How much of an impact do you think this video will get me in exposure?

"Probably none around the NCAA but at your age your goal is to at least become known. If the video impresses people you could be invited to prestigious basketball camps leading to the much needed NCAA exposure."

"That's the goal." I said peacefully as I day dreamed about the college recruiters who would be awaiting me at the end of my games.
Then another question came in my mind...

"Hey dad now that I think of it, won't there be scouts at our high school games?"

"Yes of course but I hate to break it to you like this but your a sophomore on the varsity team. You could be the one of the best players on the team and they still won't play you often. It's all about future alumni respect. You'll get your chance soon though and those coaches will be there to watch you."

"Yeah I realize that. I'm just happy to be on varsity already."

"Yeah like I said its all just about respect... Alright I'm done with the video. Come check it out."

                    Polk Travels?

                    Lunch Period
Finally fourth period lunch... You know what's weird? I'm never this hungry at this time if I'm at home but when I'm at school I'm starving. I hate that.

I walked to the cafeteria with Timothy as he discussed how coach Santiago is so stupid for cutting him from the team.

"Man wtf how he just gonna cut me and let all those sorry a** freshman on the team... That dude is real stupid for that."

Inside I wanted Tim to shut up because he's not even really good at basketball. Instead I responded, "Yeah.. Anton told me all of them were from Ohio Elite. Coach recruited their whole starting 5 lol."

                    "Man that's really some bs."

"Yeah I know. You should've made the team"
                    No he shouldn't have.

"I know... Good luck to you though and congrats on making it." He said as he turned the corner and made his way to his next class.

                    --

I headed into lunch and sat at my table with Anton, Van, Mohammad, and some other guys.

Van came over to the table with a grin and said, "The team! Y'all hear that we got Glen Lake Academy on out schedule again?"

Anton bashed his fist into the table "We are NOT about to let them f*** us up again like they did last year."

It took me a minute to realize it but Glen Lake Academy was were Terrell Jennings, the number one prospect of 2015 went and he played in Virginia.
With curiosity I asked, "Polk has out of state team on the schedule?"

Everybody at the table looked at me like I was an idiot. Then Van answered the question with an addition of sarcasm.

"Nah man we are a ranked basketball team that only plays teams in our division..."

Everybody laughed as I sat there and let out a fake laugh.

"Haha. I'm still a newbie here I didn't know, when are they releasing our schedule?"

"I don't know. I heard him telling Troy that we're playing Glen Lake."

                      Michael Kane - Life & Decision's

                      October 24th, 2014
                      First Practice - Polk High
So today was the day I learned Polk isn't just the county team... They're a national team. The more I thought about it the more I felt I was a college athlete. Recruiting, out of state traveling, man this was gonna be a long season.

I headed to my school locker to get my practice shoes. They were my Jordan 11's which used to be my favorite pair of shoes I had.
As I made my way to the gym I saw Paige. The girl I had liked since I got to Polk last school year. I caught her attention

"Hey Paige! Me and a lot of my friends are going movies tomorrow and well I was wondering if you wanted to go? You could bring some of your friends to."

Paige smiled and said "Sure, why not! What time are you guys going?"

"Uhh 6:00, I'll text you. I gotta get to the gym." I said as I tried to hide my bursted excitement.

                      Basketball Practice #1
When I got to the gym I saw I was one of the first ones there. Along with me in the gym was Troy, Troy Monroe it was the first time I've seen him not accompanied by a million other people. The guy was literally a celebrity around the school.
Eventually as everybody began to show up most of us played a game of 21 as we waited for coach to start the practice.

                      Coach Santiago
                      *Blows Whistle*
                      Everybody on the baseline.

You guys have made it, the Polk High varsity basketball team. I want to say congratulations. With that being said you are now also committed to this team, if your not you can leave this gym. I will take no slackers on my roster, you will represent Polk well or you will not play for this team and I don't care how good you are.
This will be a long season with no shortcuts. We travel around the United States during the course of our season and play some of the best teams the nation has to offer. Throughout this year we will grow as a family and we will always have each other's backs on the court and off the court for we are like I said, family.

You will become more skillful players playing at Polk and I will tell you that now. We will play fierce basketball all season and we will always dominate the competition as long as we remember that we're indeed a family.

So with that being said I'd like to discuss the game plan of this team to the new faces.
We use One Four Low or Flat spacing on the majority of our offensive possessions. Therefore our team relies on guards who have a good perimeter game while we have our 4 & 5 down low in the post.

Our secondary set may consists on motion offense. This offense must be used with patience and unselfishness or else all will fail and the possession will be wasted.

Our defense is 2-3 zone. We've got a good size advantage in our division and we can easily use the length of our rosters to destroy opponents offense.
                      Any questions?
The team looked around to see if anybody was going to say anything and nobody did.

"Well alright then. I'm gonna go the basketball racks and coach Anderson will take it from here."

                      The Thoughts
Everything sounded great so far. Coach Santiago looked to know exactly what he was talking about. I could tell he's been around the game a long time.
I was really looking forward to this season and learning from coach.

                      Assistant Coach Anderson
Alright I'm coach Anderson if you didn't know. It's my second year here at Polk and I'm typically the guy who will craft plays for special situations in games.
But nevermind that. We're going to begin the practice with stretches and we will do this everyday.

                      ...

Let's get the wing shooting drill going. Game speed. Start from the baseline then run to the wing and you'll receive the ball then jump shot. Simple drill. Let's get that started for about 10 minutes then coach Santiago will be back with you guys to spend time getting you all familiar with the team offense.
I partnered with Cleveland for the drill and we began on one of the side courts.
Stanford couldn't shoot it if his life was on the line so I busted my energy chasing the ball after he continuously clanked the ball off the rim... Sharing the basket with us was Van and Mohammad. I was amazed by Mohammad as he seemed to be nailing almost every jumper he shot.

"Mohammad you ever gonna miss?" Joked Cleveland

Mohammad laughed and said, "Same day you make one."

                      Coach Santiago
                      *Blows Whistle*
                      Everybody back to the baseline.

Now we're gonna get into the playbook. One Four Low or Flat... Now I'll tell you this now, Troy is the team's number one option. And I'm not a coach who favoriting but I know that he can and will give this team buckets without ease and the guys from last year's team know that well. So when running this offense the ball will often be sent in the corner to Troy and things will tend to go from there. We've got many alternative sets though and we'll always have backups if a play is broken we'll go over these next practice.

And we've now ran out of time. I liked what I saw out there from everybody but like always I saw things that could improve. We'll go more in depth on Monday.

                      After Practice
My dad had been busy again with Wright State now that the NCAA season was around the corner so he wasn't available to pick me up.

I got extremely angry with the thoughts of having to walk all the way home. But then I remember Odis.

"Hey Odis could you give me a ride?" I asked with tons of relief.

"I would but I'm about to go to the party. Sorry Mike."

I scratched my head with confusion "The party? Who's having a party?"

"Kiera Baker's is having one for her birthday."

"Oh dang alright then. See ya."

I had never heard of Kiera so I assumed she was a senior. Odis knew everybody though he was probably the most popular person at school.
Guess I was walking today. I needed a job so I could get a car. Seriously.

Sorry guys it's came lol. I'm adjusted to this new dialogue structure as you can see in hopes to make this dynasty more interesting but I've ran out of ideas on how to write the story. Because of this, I'll be starting my season at Polk on Monday. Hopefully after I get the outcomes of the games I will have more to write about.
Oh and btw idk if I said this yet but I've got basketball tryouts on the 28th and I'm sure I'm gonna make it so I may not have so much time to update this dynasty but it WON'T die.

Oh and once again ANY suggestions to make this dynasty better and more interesting will be GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTLY appreciated lol.

You could do a story about him going to a varsity football game and asking Paige out. I'm a sophomore in HS myself so I could really help with this lol.

Lol I'd appreciate that. And it's funny you suggest that because I was about to write about going to a varsity game but once again I had no idea how to write it out lol.

Later that day after basketball practice I had one of those times were I just typed my name into Google to see if any results came up related to my basketball basketball career. Today I happened to find this.

This had to have been because of the highlight film my dad posted on YouTube a while back. And yes I've contacted Dayton Nets and I will be playing with them when the AAU season starts around January.
