Utah Valley (4-5) at Southern Utah (4-4)

Utah Valley would come out shooting flawlessly and go up 14-4. Southern Utah would respond with a 20-0 run and take a 24-14 lead. Both teams would then tail off dramatically in shooting percentages. The Thunderbirds would hold that lead and go into the locker room up 34-26.

Thunderbirds shot 36% from the field (3/12 FG) but grabbed 10 offensive rebounds. Utah Valley shot 38% from the floor (2/6 3pt) but only had two offensive rebounds. Utah Valley was lead by Holton Hunsaker with nine points (3/6 FG, 1/3 3pt). Southern Utah was lead by J. Johnson 12 points (4/12 FG, 2/7 3pt) and J. Scott's 10 points (5/7 FG).

The second half was almost a complete 180. Utah Valley would tie it very quickly at 36-36. Instead of folding this time, they would continue to extend the lead. With 2:45 left they would lead 57-48. Utah Valley would lead 61-57 with 25 seconds left and head to the line for a one and one. They would miss the first and the Thunderbirds would grab the rebound. They would, however, quickly lose possession on a poor pass. Utah Valley would hit the rest of their free throws to secure the win.

Looks like 3PT shooting hurt you on both ends. You missing and them making them.

They wouldn't miss in the second half. I shot way too many 3s.

Southern Utah (4-5) at Utah (4-7)

Utah would start this game on a 15-5 run and look to end it as early as possible. The Thunderbirds, however, would respond by taking a 22-19 lead halfway through the first half.

Southern Utah started this game off hitting their threes. Contrary to their poor shooting from deep on the year. Utah's big man also was met with some foul trouble early on causing him to sit most the first half. Southern Utah would cling to a 41-39 lead.

          So. Utah

          50% FG
          5/8 3pt
          8/10 FT
          12 points in the paint

          Chris Nsenki: 10 points (3/4 FG, 2/2 3pt)

          Jordan Johnson: 10 points (4/5 FG, 2/3 3pt)

          Utah

          59% FG
          1/2 3pt
          6/6 FT
          28 points in the paint

Delone Wright: 14 points (5/7 FG)

The game would continue going back and forth in the second half. Every time Utah would go on a run and look to take control, Southern Utah would storm right back. With 1:45 remaining, Utah had a slim 69-65 lead. They would then play lock down defense and end the game on a 8-3 run and secure a much needed win.

          Southern Utah: 68
          Utah: 77

          So. Utah

          40% FG
          6/19 3pt
          12/15 FT
          32 points in the paint

          C. Nsenki: 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists (4/9 FG, 2/6 3pt)
          J. Johnson: 10 points (4/10 FG, 2/7 3pt)
          J. Scott: 17 points, 6 rebounds (5/12 FG, 7/8 FT)
          C. Hanks: 11 points, 7 rebounds (5/8 FG, 1/2 FT)

          J. Loveridge: 15 points, 5 rebounds (5/14 FG, 1/1 3pt)
          D. Bachynski: 13 points, 7 rebounds (6/8 FG, 1/1 3pt)

Southern Utah (4-6) at BYU (6-6)

Most experts didn't give the Thunderbirds much of a chance. Can't really blame them when BYU has such a dynamic guard in Tyler Haws who's averaging over 21 PPG coming into the game. With that said - games aren't played on paper.

The first half would go almost as even as you can get. Each team would answer the other. Back and forth action all half with no one gaining total control. It was probably a lot closer than most would have thought it would be - especially with BYU playing at home. Southern Utah led at the break 36-32. The main reason for that was Southern Utah shut down Tyler Haws. He had a mere 3 points on 1/7 FG (1/3 3pt). The Thunderbirds' Julian Scott, however, had 17 points (7/11 FG) and three boards in the first half.

Southern Utah shot 48% (1/7 3pt) and scored 26 points in the paint. BYU on the other hand had only 14 points in the paint and shot just 42% (4/8 3pt).

The second half would fail to live up to the first half. It was more about Southern Utah surprisingly dominate the Cougars - outscoring them 47-32 en route to an easy win.

            Southern Utah: 83
            BYU: 64

Tyler Haws finished the game scoring just 8 points on 3/15 FG and 2/9 from deep. BYU would shoot a poor 35% from the field (9/25 3pt) and only go 5/6 from the FT line. Southern Utah would shoot 49% (5/14 3pt) but get to the charity stripe a lot more. They'd convert most of those FTs (18/23) to help in the blow out win. They also outscored BYU in the paint 46-20.

Southern Utah's Julian Scott had a career game finishing with 44 points and 13 rebounds. (15/24 FG, 14/16 FT)

So is that 6-10 or 6-9?

How do you like your chances of finishing with a above .500 record?

6-9 I believe. I don't like my chances, but it can be possible. If i can figure out three point shooting I'll have better odds. May put myself on a 15 per game limit.

Southern Utah (6-9, 2-3) at North Dakota State (9-5, 5-0)

Despite being a massive underdog the Thunderbirds would match North Dakota State basket for basket all first half. The Bison's Taylor Braun would struggle shooting (3/10 FG, 1/4 3pt) but had nine points and three rebounds. He was big in helping North Dakota State gaining a 36-35 halftime advantage. Southern Utah was lead by J. Johnson who had 10 points (4/9 FG, 2/6 3pt). Southern Utah shot 42% from the field and 4/10 from deep. North Dakota State shot 50% from the field but 2/8 from deep.

North Dakota State would quickly jump out to a 57-45 lead. The thunderbirds would respond with a 19-6 run to capture a 64-63 lead with 2:40 left. With 50.8 left, Taylor Braun would hit a 19 foot jumper to give the Bison a 66-64 lead. Julian Scott would miss an inside shot, and Bruan would strike back with a dagger three pointer sealing the deal for North Dakota State.

Southern Utah (6-10, 2-4) at South Dakota State (8-9, 3-4)

Once again the Thunderbirds were an underdog. This time, however, they would fail to prove anybody wrong. South Dakota State jumped out to a 22-7 lead and would never relinquish it. They would lead at break 45-22. Julian Scott scored nearly all Southern Utah's first half points. (15 points, 5 rebounds - 7/16 FG). Southern Utah shot just 28% (1/9 3pt) to South Dakota State's 56% (4/7 3pt). South Dakota State also doubled up the Thunderbirds on rebounds 22-11.

South Dakota State would control most of the second half, but Southern Utah would dominate the latter part. It wouldn't change anything but make the beating not look so bad.

Southern Utah (6-11, 2-5) vs North Carolina Central (7-12, 2-5)

It was an absolute must win for both teams if they wanted to have a shot at winning the Summit League. The loser would have almost no shot at gaining enough ground. Southern Utah would have to contain N.C. Central's guard- who is averaging a nation leading 26.3 PPG.

The Thunderbirds would control almost the entire first half. North Carolina Central would go on a little run at the end to close the gap to 32-28 at the break - Southern Utah up. They were controlling everything inside. They shot 43% from the field (2/8 3pt) but scored 20 points inside. N.C. Central would only get 10 points in the paint and shoot just 37% from the field (2/8 3pt). J. Scott had 10 points (5/12 FG) and five rebounds for Southern Utah. M. Nakwaasah had 14 points (5/10 FG, 2/5 3pt) in the first half for N.C. Central. Just 12 shy of his season average.

N.C. Central would jump out to a 42-40 lead with in the first five minutes. Coach Haas would take a timeout and let his team have it. They would proceed to dominate and outscore N.C. Central 40-20 the rest of the way en route to a much needed win.

                          Southern Utah: 80
                          N.C. Central: 62

                              Southern Utah (9-12, 5-6) vs UMKC (13-9, 8-3)

It was an important game for Southern Utah. They have to play UMKC, South Dakota State and North Dakota State consecutively. They only stand three games behind North Dakota State for first place.

If you looked at just the halftime statistics you'd think it was a complete and utter blow out. There was no way Southern Utah should have been even close - but they were. UMKC had control all first half but could never really deliver a knock out punch despite the Thunderbirds horrid shooting. Why? Because UMKC struggled shooting themselves - but not nearly as bad. UMKC shot 36% from the field (6/10 3pt) and 5/6 from the charity stripe. Southern Utah shot an astonishing 17% from the field (2/18 3pt) and 7/11 from the charity stripe. UMKC led at halftime 29-23.

UMKC would start the second half on an 11-4 run and lead 40-27. They looked to take complete control and run away with the game. Southern Utah, however, would get ripped into by Coach Haas. It clearly worked as they would completely dominate the rest of the game. After going down 13 to start the second half, they would go on a 27-9 run to take a 64-49 lead. UMKC would never be able to close the gap and fall to the Thunderbirds.

                              Southern Utah: 74
                              UMKC: 58

Southern Utah (10-12, 6-6) vs South Dakota State (11-12, 6-7)

The Thunderbirds looked to revenge that embarrassing loss at South Dakota State a couple weeks ago. You could tell from the get go they had a mission and they set out to complete that mission. They jumped out to a 27-9 lead over S.D. State. It would, however, dwindle down to a 38-30 Southern Utah halftime lead. J. Johnson was on fire in the first half scoring 10 points on 3/5 3pt shooting. S.D. State was lead by Chad White with 8 points (4/8 FG). Southern Utah shot 45% from the field and 6/14 from deep while S.D. State shot 46% from the field (0/5 3pt).

South Dakota State would pick up where they left off after going down 18 early on. They'd jump out to a 47-40 early second half lead. Once again, Coach Haas would take a timeout and lay into his team. And just like the previous times they would respond. They'd climb back and take a 53-51 lead after a J. Johnson three pointer. They would then fend off any S.D. State comeback victory - despite struggling shooting all second half.

                                Southern Utah: 70
                                South Dakota State: 65
