    Re: A Fresh Start - CH2K8 Legacy

There. All caught up on updates now. Feels good lol. I only have a few games left in the season. I will for sure play my rematch with North Dakota State. I think after that game there's only four games left in the regular season. I may sim those and jump into the conference tournament. It'll depend on the conference standings. After the N.D. State game I'll give a Summit League Standings update (probably top 25 too). Then I'll monitor it before and after every game I sim.

There's a possibility if I do play another game it'll be senior night.

Hopefully you can keep a win streaking going. Another 3 or 4 W's would provide a above .500 Overall and Summit League finish, and be a nice building block for the future

Southern Utah (11-12, 7-6) vs North Dakota State (15-7, 11-3)

Any shot at winning The League title would either live or die after this game for Southern Utah. Just as importantly, it could effect Summit League tournament play seeding wise. Thus causing Coach Haas to insert A.J. Hess at starting small forward and Cal Hanks as starting Center.

Neither team would pick up an early advantage. It was back and forth just like when Southern Utah played at North Dakota State. The Bison were on fire from deep. They'd connect on 6/7 three pointers and shoot 48% from the field. Southern Utah, on the other hand, shot 42% but did connect on 4/10 from deep. They also were able to gain a 37-34 halftime lead over the Bison.

A.J. Hess led the way with 16 points (5/11 FG, 3/6 3pt) and three rebounds. For the Bison Mike Felt had 11 points (4/5 FG, 3/3 3pt) and Lawrence Alexander had nine points (3/5 FG, 2/2 2pt) and four rebounds.

The second half would mirror the game in North Dakota. The Bison would take control with the Thunderbirds scratching and clawing to just merely stay in the game. Southern Utah would have massive struggles shooting the ball all second half, and the Bison would take advantage continuing their three point hot shooting. With 1:35 remaining, Southern Utah trailed 68-61. They were on a two minute drought and needed a basket to give themselves some hope. Without it a comeback would seem out of the realm of possibility. They would get it to A.J. Hess in the corner for an open look from deep - but he would struggle mightily all second half - and miss the shot. The Bison would never let Southern Utah get any closer to closing the gap.

          Southern Utah: 66
          North Dakota State: 73

          Southern Utah

          J. Scott: 12 points, 8 rebounds (5/18 FG)
          J. Cheeseman: 11 points, 9 rebounds (4/8 FG)

          N.D. State

                Southern Utah (12-15, 8-9) vs IPFW (5-21, 3-14)

As soon as the ball was tipped off you could tell IPFW was in for a long night. Right out of the gate Southern Utah went up 12-0. Before you knew it the score was 29-7. Southern Utah led 42-11 at halftime. A big reason why - IPFW shot 12% (3/24 FG) and 0/6 from deep. They had 11 rebounds and four points in the paint. Southern Utah shot 55% (2/7 3pt), had 27 rebounds and 30 points in the paint. Julian Scott led everyone with 14 points (6/8 FG) and seven rebounds.

The second half wouldn't be as ugly, but IPFW would never come close. The closest they would get would be 20 points late in the game. Julian Scott would have the play of the game where he posterized an IPFW player plus had an And 1.

                Southern Utah: 83
                IPFW: 54

                Southern Utah

Do you like your chances in the tourney at all? Would be make for a nice finish to the season if you could pull off some W's you could be over .500

I never beat Oakland. Hard to beat a team three times in a season. After that I don't feel too confident. Depends on match ups though.

updates coming. conference tournament is all finished up, after I update I'll go to selection sunday. then try the whole live update thing here. uncertain exactly of how I'll do it. I may not comment on every game, and it'll still be fairly organized. every post of mine will include the match ups (there will be multiple match ups in each post not just one per post lol). then I may give opinion on said match ups. and other things.

I will get a complete organized bracket afterwards too of course.

Southern Utah (13-15) vs Oakland (14-12)

                          Last Two Meetings

                          12/8: At Oakland - L - 57-56
                          2/28: vs Oakland - L - 75-57

It isn't easy to beat a team three times in one year, but that's what Oakland looked to do. It certainly wouldn't start good for the Thunderbirds as their leading scorer F Julian Scott would get two fouls in the first 1:02 of the first half. Luckily A.J. Hess would completely take over - with the help of SR G Jordan Johnson.

For Oakland JR G Travis Bader scored 13 of their first 15 points, and then 17 of their first 23. He finished the first half with 22 points (9/13 FG, 4/7 3pt). But Oakland trailed at the break 51-36 A.J. Hess scored 16 points (7/13 FG, 2/5 3pt) and had three rebounds. Jordan Johnson added 12 points (5/8 FG, 2/4 3pt). Southern Utah shot 57% (7/13 3pt), had 13 fast break points and only one turnover. Oakland shot 51% from the field (5/11 3pt), had zero fast break points and 10 turnovers.

The second half pretty much went the same way as the first half. A.J. Hess would continue having a career night and Southern Utah would roll to an easy win.

                          Southern Utah: 93
                          Oakland: 70

                          Southern Utah

                          11/24 3pt
                          8/13 FT
                          40 Points in the paint
                          40 Rebounds

                          C. Nsenki: 10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 7 steals (4/9 FG, 2/5 3pt)
                          J. Johnson: 22 points, 4 assists (9/18 FG, 4/9 3pt)
                          Julian Scott: 13 points, 7 rebounds (3/6 FG, 7/8 3pt)
                          A.J. Hess: 30 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists (13/26 FG, 4/8 3pt)
(A.J. Hess career high in points and rebounds)

                          Oakland
                          43% FG
                          7/18 3pt

                              Last Two Meetings

                              1/26: vs Oral Roberts - W - 78-48
                              2/19: At Oral Roberts - L - 73-60

Coming off a career performance A.J. Hess didn't let up and continued his hot streak. He would score 12 points (4/7 FG, 1/2 3pt) in the first half and help Southern Utah to a 31-28 lead. For Oral Roberts, Mikey Manghum had 8 points (3/8 FG, 2/6 3pt). Those who have followed Southern Utah basketball know that no halftime lead is safe for them. They did, however, shoot 48% from the field (1/3 3pt) which is usually good for them. They also had 22 points in the paint to Oral Robert's 11. Oral Roberts shot 42% from the field and just 2/11 from deep.

Southern Utah would start the second half off shooting a little poorly which allowed Oral Roberts to take a lead. That would be short lived, though, and the Thunderbirds would recapture the lead and never let Oral Roberts get close for the rest of the game - allowing them to get to .500 on the year.
