If you were to judge this game by the halftime score, you'd think that the Nets had no chance of winning. After two quarters, the Pacers led 62-46. The Nets scored in a variety of ways early on; Roy Hibbert fouled Deron Williams, who made both free throws. Brook Lopez (who got a standing ovation from the Brooklyn crowd) drove inside to score on several occasions. Several times, Lopez assisted Deron Williams by setting a pick, allowing Williams to score. However, the Pacers were even more versatile. David West drove inside early on, and was fouled by Plumlee. West scored despite being fouled, and converted the and-one.
Lance Stephenson and Paul Geroge both connected on three point shots early on, then George scored on a mid-range jumper. The unheralded Solomon Hill connected on two consecutive three point shots. Mirza Teletoiv connected on two jump-shots, and then Marcus Thornton hit a buzzer beating layup to make the score 27-22 Pacers after one quarter.
The Pacers pulled away in the second quarter, leading to their sixteen point half-time lead. The biggest highlight of the second quarter was a Marcus Smart to Paul George alley-oop dunk. Soon after, the rookie Smart stole the ball and took it all the way for a dunk. Halfway through the second quarter, Paul George already had 21 points; he was simply dominating not only Alonzo Gee, but the entire Brooklyn Nets squad. New addition Viacheslav Kravtsov got on the board with a layup and the Nets began to rally. Joe Johnson dunked on two consecutive possessions, and then rookie Rasmus Larsen showed some ability when he dunked the ball on a Deron Williams steal.
Marcus Thornton hit a three pointer, but Solomon Hill answered back with another of his own. Brooklyn kept fighting, holding Indiana in check. Bojan Bogdanovic connected on both free throws to narrow the deficit to ten points. Then, former Net CJ Watson connected on a three point shot. That would become the theme for the rest of the game; Brooklyn fought incessantly, but as soon as the Nets narrowed the deficit, the Pacers would widen it again.
Kravtsov dunked, and then hit a jumper soon after to make it a nine point game. David West scored on a layup to make it a double digit Indiana lead once more. Then, Bojan Bogdanovic hit a three point shot to make it an eight point game. The Barclay's Center was going wild, the fans were on the feet, as they all thought the Nets had a chance. The Nets could have won; at the end of the third quarter, Indiana led 89-81, a perfectly manageable deficit.
To start the final quarter of play, Deron Williams missed a wide-open jump shot. Every Brooklyn fan in the building let out a sigh of frustration/disappointment. Soon after, "the hero" Joe Johnson gave them something to cheer about, connecting on an and-one layup. Roy Hibbert made both free throws to restore the Pacer's led to eleven. The Nets kept figthing trying to win, but the Pacers maintained an iron-fist on the lead. Once more, as soon as Brooklyn would draw close, Indiana widened the lead. Twice in the fourth quarter, Lance Stephenson hit a three point shot to give the Pacers a ten point lead. Joe Johnson hit a three point shot of his own with a minute to go to narrow the lead to seven points in the final minute, but Indiana added a few more points via free throws to win the game, 115-104.
