The nice thing about this current lineup is I have several players who perform better then their ratings because of the style I like to play. The bad thing is Spears (my 5*AA) doesn't perform like his ratings would suggest because the PG position is never really a scorer.

However I am not looking forward to next season. I only lose Ingerson and Sandoval, but they are my teams 2 best 3pt shooters and the recruits I was trying to land signed elsewhere leaving me with only post players left who want to come to OSU. Don't get me wrong I need them too, as next year I will be left with Sowers (6'8) and Chavez and Atkins (6'7). Just trying to figure out how I am going to be able to make any type of comebacks if I fall behind early to teams who like to shoot the 3ball.

    Might be a little rough
Nice thing as you will soon see in my next post, the Beavers catch fire and make a little run like they did early in the season. It's going to be a battle to still finish anywhere close to 20 wins but my RPI is still high and I think I have a pretty good case to make some type of post-season tourney.

BEAVERS GRAB TOP-25 WIN ON THE ROAD!

For the Oregon State Beavers under the guidance of 1st year HC Coach Ryne "The Deuce" Dezaron, the 2012-2013 season has been a roller coaster ride. The Beavers started out with a 6 game win streak finishing the non-conference schedule 8-2. Picked to finish last in the Pac-10, OSU struggled dropping their first 3 games and winning just 2 of their next 4. However like any roller coaster when you are down you must go up..

Oregon State started their climb first beating in-state rival Oregon in Eugene (79-73). The Beavers got a nice double double by R. Sandoval (24 pts 11 reb, 4/8 3pt) and solid play out of the entire starting lineup as the bench manages just 11 pts. Spears (10 pts 4 ast) and Ingerson (14 pts) combine to shoot 5/11 from downtown.

The Beavers then notched their 2nd Top-25 win of the season as they beat #10 Washington (81-70) .

Coming off a 10/23 3pt performance, OSU continues to light it up from the outside hitting 10/20 from downtown vs the Huskies including a 3/3 performance by Walkon SG A. Whittington (9 pts). Whittington wasn't the only bench player to have a good game as 6'8 SO SF D. Garner had a season/career high 16 pts (2/4 3pt) to lead all scorers.

      Coach Deuce
"Anytime you use the 3pt shoot in your offense, you are going to have games in which you struggle and others in which you are unstoppable. For us the past 2 games have been the latter.. It's a rare thing to shoot so well on the road and now we just have to hope we can continue to do it at home"
(12-7) OSU WILL RETURN HOME TO CORVALLIS FOR 3 STRAIGHT GAMES AT GILL COLISEUM.

        HOME SWEET HOME!!

Coming home having knocked off the #10 team in the nation and the hated Ducks, OSU added to their 2 game win streak with 3 more to improve to (15-7) on the season!

In Game 1 vs Cal, the Beaver got revenge for a earlier O.T. loss to the Bears with a 85-77 victory.

5 playeres scored in double digits for the Beav's led by 5* AA R. Spears 16 pts (2/7 3pt). Spears also dished out 5 assists. Gillingham (11 pts 3/3 3pt), Sandoval (13 pts 5 reb), Sowers (11 pts 7 reb 2 blks) and 6th man S. Chavez (14 pts) were the others.

In Game 2 OSU notched their 3rd Top-25 win of the season as they continue to build a strong RPI beating #12 USC with a 93-82 victory.

OSU led by as much as 10 points in the 1st half, but the Trojans finished the half with a 10-2 run including a 3pt at the buzzer to make it (41-39) at the half.

Typically Oregon State has been winning games from beyond the 3pt line, but tonight they won it at the charity stripe. 3 Trojan starters fouled out of the game sending the Beavers to the line a season high 45 times in which OSU made 34 including 9 of their last 10 in the final 1:30 of the game.

        R. Sandoval and F. Sowers each score 17 pts, well D. Garner adds 13 pts off the bench hitting 2/2 from 3pt.

SR K. Ingerson also added 12 pts and a team high 6 assists in the win.

Oregon State finished off their 3 game home sweep with a sweep of the Arizona State beating the Sun Devils (76-72). With the loss ASU is now (10-15) on the season and is tied with Cal for last place in the Pac-10 (3 wins each).

OSU led (46-32) at the half as R. Spears has one of his best games hitting 3/5 from 3pt to lead all scorers with 11 pts.

Spears continued his strong play in the 2nd half adding scoring 6 more including another 3, to finish with a team high 17 pts.

        F. Sowers added a double double with 12 pts and 10 rebs, however the biggest story of the night besides the 5 game win streak was the injury to 6'9 SR PF R. Sandoval. Sandoval went down in the 2nd half with a strained achilles after scoring 13 pts in 17 minutes.

        Coach Deuce
"I am sad to announce that Sandoval's injury will cause him to miss the next 3 weeks (19 days) which takes up the rest of the regular season pretty much. There is a outside chance he could return for the Pac-10 tourney though. Rickey is a huge part of our offense, and it's going to take a massive team effort to replace him"
Sandoval is tied with F. Sowers for the team lead in scoring (13.4 PPG) and is #1 in RPG (6.5) well also playing a big role on defense (1.5 SPG, 1.3 BPG).

OSU is now (15-7) on the season but finish playing 4 of their last 6 games on the road.

          PAC-10 UPDATE

#16 USC (19-5/10-3) and #9 Washington (19-4/9-3) appear like they will battle it out for the Pac-10 regular season title. The Trojans will be looking to repeat and win 3 of the past 4, well the Huskies are looking to grab their 2nd in the past 4 years. All eyes will be on the matchup on 3/7 as USC travels to Seattle.

#19 UCLA (18-7/9-4) currently is #3 but has a chance to claim the title if they can knock of UW next week.

Oregon State (15-7/7-5) is currently #4 in the Pac-10 Standings, making a huge jump after being predicted to finish last after just winning 3 conference games last season. However with 4 of their next 6 games on the road, it appears that Coach Deuce's streak of 20+ win seasons (4) could be coming to a end.

Stanford (14-11/6-7) and Arizona (16-10/6-7) are tied the for 5/6 spot.

The Cardinals have UW and Oregon on the road this week and then finish with 3 games at home including #19 UCLA, OSU and Cal on senior night.

The Wildcats schedule is the opposite. They face OSU on Thusday and then Cal before finishing on the road with 3 games including a matchup with #16 USC.

Oregon (11-11/5-7) has a 1 loss lead on Washington State (14-10/5-8) for the #7 spot.

The Ducks have lost 3 straight and face #19 UCLA next Thursday and then close out the regular season on senior night vs #16 USC

The Coug's have #16 USC on the road on 2/28, but the rest of their last 5 are vs Cal, vs OSU, @ ASU and vs Arizona leaving them a good chance at moving up a spot or 2.

Cal (14-10/3-9) has a 1 game lead on ASU (10-15/3-10) in the loss column keeping them out of the Pac-10 cellar.

Cal plays 4 of their final 6 games on the road including game including #19 UCLA and plays #9 UW at home. If the Bears can manage to win of of those plus go .500 in the others, they should still play in a post-season tourney as their RPI is in the Top-50.

Arizona State's season is pretty much dead in the water. One has to wonder how much longer Coach Sendek will be at the helm. They play their next 3 at home starting with #16 USC before finishing on the road including a game @ #9 WSU

            TOP-25 UPDATE

            Feb 20th

The (23-3) UConn Huskies take over #1, as (18-5) Kansas drops 5 of their past 10 games including 2 in a row (OT loss to Texas Tech and then Texas) is now #2

            (22-4) UNC is #3 followed by (18-4) Texas at #4, (20-3) Kentucky at #5, (20-3) Indiana at #6, (22-2) George Washington at #7, (23-4) Villanova at #8, (19-4) Washington at #9 and (21-3) San Diego State at #10.

Obviously the big stories here are GW and SDSU still in the Top-10. The Colonials have won 4 straight in the A-10 but still have a very tough (17-8) St Joe's team on the road to close out A-10 play.

The Aztec's are rolling through the M.W. with a 10-1 record having won 8 in a row. They still have (19-8) UNLV and (17-10) BYU at home. If they can manage to win both they could grab a #2/#3 seed come tourney time.

The Biggest stories with the remaining Top-25 teams has to be (18-7) Ole Miss and (18-8) Mississippi State at #21 and #22, as neither team has been in the Top-25 much these past 5 years.

However the biggest story has to be that of #24 Duke. The Blue Devils are just (16-7) after dropping 5 of their past 10 games. Rumors are Coach K (915 wins) is thinking long and hard about making this his last season. Question is will he?

              MID-MAJOR UPDATE

With no Mid-Majors in the Top-25 Media or Coaches Poll, this could be the year of Mid-Major upsets come March Madness, as several Mid's are having strong years.

(21-6) Western Michigan headlines the stories at #1. The Broncos HC Steve Hawkins currently owns a 204-106 Overall record and is rumored to the potential replacement for Coach K at Duke.

Another big story and close to the heart of Coach Deuce is that of #6 Northern Colorado. The Bears have found success in Year 1 without Coach Deuce as they have won 12 straight and are currently 20-4 on the season. With just 3 games left in Big Sky play, UNC will look to lock up 4th straight regular season title.

Yeah made a little run there in conference, but losing Sandoval hurts alot. I have 3 more games played and let's just say there is no chance at 20 wins this year unless I can somehow make a run in the Pac-10 tourney and a post-season tourney.

Graphics are just Goggle image searches. I wish I was talented enough to make stuff. Use to have a friend who would make me banners for my threads but havn't seen him on the boards lately.

20 wins might be pushing it, but at 7-5 even if you only win your home games and go 2-4 in your last 6 that would make you 9-9 in the Pac-10. Being the lowest rated team in the conference, .500 would be an accomplishment. Somehow, I think you'll do better than that though.

Home games are going to be tough with one of them being Washington. I did beat the Huskies on the road, but beating a strong team like them twice in the same season is a stretch. So far the only team I have a sweep on is ASU and they are playing like the worst team in the conference instead of me.

20 wins is still possible if I manage a win or 2 in the tourney's though, just not going to happen in the regular season.

                        BEAVERS SWEEP RIVAL DUCKS!!!

The Oregon State Beavers recorded their 16th win of the season on Wednesday night with a (78-76) victory over the Oregon Ducks, as Coach Deuce leads OSU in a sweep of their hated instate rival.

The Beavers were led in scoring by R. Spears (16 pts 6 reb 4 asst) and G. Gillingham (16 pts 4 reb 3 asst 4 stls).

For OSU this was a must win game after losing both games last week on the road (Arizona 86-82 and Washington State 70-64). With just 3 game left in the regular season including senior night on Sunday vs #10 (21-5) Washington, the Beavers are looking to get as many W's as possible to build on their NCAA bubble resume.

With a RPI of #19, OSU is currently projected as a #8 seed in the Midwest tournament with a 1st round matchup against #9 North Carolina State. Always trying to build up stories in the tournament with must watch matchup's that same current projection has North Carolina as the #1 seed, a team Coach Deuce has become very familar with over the past 3 seasons well at Northern Colorado.

Nice job sweeping Oregon I know it wasn't easy though. Good luck the rest of the regular season hoping for some miraculous victories so you could possibly get a bump in the recruiting battles.

I swear them Beavers are clutch seems like majority of the wins are very close games.

Thanks. Regular season is finished. Just have to post the last 3 games, then start playing the Pac-10 tourney.

At this point only thing I can hope for in recruiting is talking to Juniors and building up interest. I pretty much already have the 3 scholarships I am giving out this season locked up with all 3 guy's at 100%. I feel pretty confident they will sign in Week 1. Next year however I will have 6 scholarships to offer and I really would like to try and land a 5* guy early to grab another attribute point, however that's going to be alot of luck and not much skill.

                              HUSKIES DOMINATE!

The Washington Huskies showed why they are the #10 team in the nation as they dominated the 2nd half to defeat Oregon State (87-62)..

OSU would actually only trail by 4 at the half (43-39) but Huskies Cassiano Samuels showed why he is a favorite to take home Pac-10 POY honors as he scores 19 of his team high 27 pts in the 2nd half, as he finished the night 7/8 from beyond the arc.

The 6'3 Sophomore PG (former Mr WA 5* AA #19 Overall/#11 PG) was named the Pac-10 FOY last season as well as the NCAA FOY and was named to the Freshman All-American team as well as the Pac-10 All-Conference, when he averaged 14.1 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 3.3 APG, and 1.2 SPG.

This season Samuels has stepped up his game despite starting just 7 games for the Huskies, he is leading the team in scoring at 17.8 PPG and is the team's leader in assists (5.3), well also grabbing 2.9 RPG and 1.2 SPG.

                              F. Sowers led the Beavers with 19 pts 7 reb 3 stls and 4 blks in the loss.

SR SG K. Ingerson went just 1/6 from 3pt and finished with 7 pts.

UP NEXT (16-10) OSU CLOSES OUT THEIR PAC-10 SEASON @ STANFORD AND @ UCLA

The Oregon State Beavers have ended the regular season on a high note winning their last 2 games on the road this week to finish (18-10 Overall and 10-8 in the Pac-10).

In Game 1 vs Stanford, OSU would trail (37-24) at the half, but would come out strong on both sides of the ball in the 2nd half to put themselves into position to grab the win at the buzzer.

JR F. Sowers continues his strong play with 15 pts 7 reb well also blocking 4 shots.

FR S. Chavez added 11 pts and 6 reb, well also blocking 3 shots. Since replacing Sandoval in the starting lineup, Chavez is averaging 11.3 PPG.
