Player of the Game: Fred Kowalczuk - 16 pts, 12 reb

BROOKLYN, NY - Today was an intense game from start to finish. Both teams entered today without a win. The teams were evenly matched throughout the game. Long Island played a much better game today in all areas of the game. They handled the ball much better today. The excellent control of the ball led to 0 turnovers for the Blackbirds. They also did very well on the offensive glass. Many of Fred Kowalczuk's rebounds were on the offensive side of the ball. Jalon Ryan was also a very reliable scorer for the Blackbirds. He made 3 of his 6 three-pointers. The second half came down to the last second. The Columbia began to foul within the last minute to send the Blackbirds to the line for free throws. There was a slim lead throughout the entire last minute. With just over 7 seconds left in the game, Erroyl Martin made one of his two free throws to give the Blackbirds with a 3 point lead. Columbia got a 3-point shot off just before the buzzer but could not make the shot to send the game into overtime.

Player of the Game: Fred Kowalczuk - 13 pts, 14 reb, 1 blk

BROOKLYN, NY - Today was tough going for the Blackbirds. They started off the game quickly begin Canisius. Within the first 8 minutes Canisius pulled ahead to an astonishing 15-5 lead. It only got worse from there in the first half. The Blackbirds were struggling to make shots through most of the first half. The second half was a bit better for the Blackbirds. They started the half with a run that would pull them to within 3 points of the lead. Fred Kowalczuk's down low presence and Jalon Ryan's outside shooting ability helped to pull the comeback. However, it was not meant to be. Canisius managed to get it together to pull ahead to their comfortable lead just before the last few minutes of the game. Some late game fouling was not enough for the Blackbirds to catch back up. Today was an important showing that free throws really can make or break a game. Had Long Island made the 9 that they missed the game would have been tied, sending the game into overtime. These Blackbirds still have a lot of work to do if they wish to do well this season.

QUEENS, NY - Long Island came into this game as the underdogs. This was a tough fought battle for both teams. The first half was very slow and methodical. Neither team was having success from the field. The Blackbirds almost went into the half with an 18-11 lead until St. John's pulled together a quick 6-0 run to bring the lead down to one. They continued the run into the second half to make it a 10-0 run. Long Island would not back down. Erroyl Martin had 2 of his 3 steals in the second half, which lead to easy baskets on the other end. Both Stefan Norwood and Erkan Floyd were key contributors coming off the bench. They might not have scored a lot but together combined for a total of 11 rebounds. The end of the game was a thriller. Erroyl Martin was sent to the line 3 times within the last minute and a half. He made 5 of his 6 free throws that helped the Blackbirds maintain their slim lead. St. John's had control of the ball for the last 30 seconds. They shot one three with just 10 seconds left. The shot missed, but they managed to pull down the rebound. They shot another 3 just before the buzzer, but it was no good! The Blackbirds travelled a short distance to get to St. John's and managed to walk away with a huge W.

Re: The Career of Sean Powell (CH2K8)

I am curious being how this is a CPU vs CPU, do you edit your player's shot tendencies at the beginning of the season. I find in my sim games it keeps guy's from putting up the 3 ball when they shouldn't be and with my guy's who are highly rated in the 3pt, I tend to want them shooting it more often. Also up my bigmen's close and drive so that 80% of their shots are inside or from the foul line.

Just thought I would throw it out as a suggestion. Obviously players are going to take shots they probably shouldn't in real life, but just like in real life if you got a guy who has a low 3pt rating and he is jacking up the 3's then there is a pretty good chance he will find his butt on the bench. I just look at it as another way of coaching.

Nice upset over St. John's. You needed that win. Hopefully it gets you going. Hartford looks winnable, then you're back to .500.

BROOKLYN, NY - The Blackbirds come home today after a big win on the road against St. John's. The Blackbirds started off with the same success that they finished their last game. They started off with an 8-0 run. They continued to dominate the first half behind the leadership of Jalon Ryan. He scored 11 of the first 12 points and continued to lead the team in scoring throughout the rest of the game. They maintained the lead throughout the entire second half. Hartford attempted to make a run late in the game. They got as close as 4 points but then the Blackbirds began to pull away and sealed the lead. Today was a much more successful day for the Blackbirds. They won the turnover battle, had a dominant post presence, and shot very well from the field and at the free throw line. Hopefully the Blackbirds can extend their win streak to 3 as they take on their first NEC opponent.

I never thought about that. I'll have to pay closer attention in my next game and see if there's anyone that I should adjust tendency wise. The only one that shoots a lot of 3's is Jalon Ryan and he's either hot or not. It changes game to game unfortunately

Player of the Game: Erroyl Martin - 11 pts, 2 ast, 4 stl

EMMITSBURG, MD - The Blackbirds have been doing well over the past few games. Today they start early in the NEC season. Mount St. Mary's started the game in a dominant style. They shot well and kept Fred Kowalczuk from getting any easy looks. Long Island was able to pull it together in the first half to go into halftime down 3. The second half continued the same way that the first ended. Both teams were equally balanced. About halfway through the second half was when Long Island began to pull ahead. They were led by Erroyl Martin. He made 4/4 shots in the second half but also had 3 of his 4 steals in this half. They managed to get ahead and maintained the lead for the rest of the half. There was a moment with only 2 minutes left that Mount St. Mary's got within a point of the lead but then Jalon Ryan was able to make some key shots to keep hold of the lead.

Up Next: 12/8 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson (1-4, 0-1 NEC)

Player of the Game: Fred Kowalczuk - 16 pts, 8 reb, 1 blk

BROOKLYN, NY - Today is Long Island's second NEC game until January. The first half was controlled by the Blackbirds. They shot very well throughout the entire first half and had some continued success into the second half. They had several steals in the first half while also keeping Fairleigh Dickinson with a 31% shooting percentage. The second half was the complete opposite of the first. Long Island started off well but then started to lose the groove they had in the first half. In the final 2 minutes the game was almost tied. Fred Kowalczuk had a huge block to prevent Fairleigh Dickinson from taking the lead. That block led to Long Island's last few points to hold onto the lead to get their fourth straight win.

Player of the Game: Fred Kowalczuk - 16 pts, 11 reb

DURHAM, NH - Long Island has been experiencing plenty of success recently and continue that streak today on the road. They started off the game with great shooting. Jalon Ryan opened the game with Long Island's first 7 points. The Blackbirds got out early and held a nice double digit lead throughout most of the first half. Towards the end of the first half New Hampshire pulled back to where they were only behind 10. The second half had a few moments where New Hampshire got close. But the post presence of Fred Kowalczuk solidified the lead for the Blackbirds as he was able to score 6 points in the last 2 minutes. Free throw shooting still seems to be a problem for the Blackbirds. They continue to do poorly at the charity stripe, but it hasn't hurt them too much yet. After a short road trip, the Blackbirds will fly home to defend their current 5-game win streak.

Player of the Game: Fred Kowalczuk - 11 pts, 12 reb, 1 stl

BROOKLYN, NY - The Blackbirds came into this game looking to continue their win streak. Harvard has struggled terribly this season and have yet to win a game. The game was close throughout the first half and most of the second half. At about the 10 minute mark of the second half Long Island started to force turnovers and pull away. They got on an 8-0 run to extend their lead. This lead would uphold throughout the rest of the half. Fred Kowalczuk came through big on the boards today. He had 12 rebounds, 6 of which were on the offensive glass. The Blackbirds did well in the turnover battle. They controlled the ball and played tough on defense to get the ball back quickly. Second chance points also helped play a key part in the game. The Blackbirds had 14 second chance points. While the game went fairly well the freshman PF Mani Galbreath suffered an injury in the first few minutes of the game. His injury has been labeled as a high ankle sprain and is tentatively out for 27 days. He has been listed as out on the team's injury report. He will most likely miss their next NEC game (Sacred Heart on January 7) but should be healthy in time for the following game against St. Francis (NY).
