The NBA Second Trimester Report
February 12th, 2016
By Vonny Lee
We're now two-thirds through the NBA season and at the All-Star Break. Teams have made moves, have made adjustments, and some are benefiting; others are suffering. Let's take a look.
The Atlantic

1. The Raptors -- now sit atop the division, their defense leading the way as Kyle Lowery doubles as a straight-thief on the court, averaging 1.6 SPG and dishing out 9.7 APG. He's got the team humming after a slow start and the Raptors again look poised to make some noise in the playoffs; whether they can get past the first round is another question entirely, as they currently sit as the 4th seed, drawing the Bulls as their potential opponent.
2. The Knicks -- are now second in their division after an injury to their star rookie, KP. He's back now and the Knicks faithful (including Spike Lee) are pleased, but the Raptors have taken advantage of the Knicks woes and powered ahead to first in the division. Melo continues to have a brilliant year, the Knicks have the 6th seed, and the future is bright for New York; the season is a dream season, even if Knicks fans don't want to admit it.
3. The Wizards -- are not doing as well as they'd like. Injuries haven't hit the team, and the talent is certainly there -- it very much seems like Coach Wittman has lost the ear of some of his players. Despite career years from Lopez and Beal, the Wizards are still struggling to consistently win. More and more the chatter indicates that it's a coaching issue and not a player one; Wittman looks to be the first coach to be axed this year.
4. The Celtics -- believed they would be better than this after making the trade for Boogie Cousins over a month ago. Boston had finally found the player to build around, had finally gotten another big man to be the foundation of their franchise for the next decade ... instead, they're finding Boogie has lost his groove. He and Stevens seem to be getting along fine, but Boogie's confidence in his teammates isn't there; the big man is doing too much and suffering across the board because of it. Trust will have to be built for Boogie's time in Boston to be called a success, but this season looks to be a lost cause.
5. The 76ers -- are still losing, but are sitting tight. Rumors swirl about what they'll do with the expiring contracts of Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace, but so far nothing has happened. Hinkie has to make a move this deadline, as attendance and fan interest for the team is at it's lowest point in 22 years.
