Lexington, KY -- The season opener of college basketball is always an exciting night. The energy in Rupp Arena was electric on this night, as the Wildcats welcomed the Syracuse Orange.
Tonight's game was even more exciting than usual, as we got to see some great talent on the court for the first time. Syracuse entered the game with 5 players having never played a game in an SU jersey. Kentucky, with the high turnover of great talent to the NBA, saw six players in blue who had never worn it before. It was set up to be a great matchup.
The game got off to a fast start, with the two teams trading threes. Kentucky would go on a 10-4 run after that, as Syracuse was struggling to settle in to their offense.
Tyler Lydon, a sophomore forward for the Orange, helped to rally the troops with a big time and-one to close the game to three.
De'Aaron Fox, Kentucky's stand out freshman guard, was dominating Andre Sharpe at the PG spot in the first half. That was, until Sharpe made a great play on a weak pass, and took it to the house for a huge slam.
The two teams would go into the half with the score 27-28 in Kentucky's favor.
In the second half, Syracuse came out strong. Big plays from Battle and Orange big man Dajuan Coleman would spark a 8-0 run to kick off the half.
Kentucky wouldn't be quiet for long, going on a 13-2 run of their own right after. This game seemed like it was destined for the last possession.
Syracuse didn't quite recover after that run, playing from behind the rest of the game.
Poor shooting plagued the Orange, as the shot a mere 33% in the second half, and only 10% from three.
Kentucky would take that momentum on their way to a 68-62 win over the Orange.
Kentucky Standout Performers
Guard De'Aaron Fox led all scorers with 20 points, on 6-12 shooting. Big man Issac Humphries put up a double double with 18 Pts and 14 Reb, on 9-12 shooting.
Syracuse Standout Performers
Tonight, it would only be Tyler Lydon: Scoring 18 Pts and grabbing 9 Reb, on 7-10 shooting.

Syracuse, NY -- Andre Sharpe had played in the Carrier Dome before, but not as a member of the Orange. If you recall, he pulled off late game heroics against JD High School to win the State Championship this past March. He played well in that game, and he played well tonight.
Syracuse came out of the gates hot, starting with a 9-0 run. All of their first shots were three pointers, by White and Lydon. Sharpe was in a groove, finding the open man for easy shots.
UConn wouldn't go away quietly though. With tough defense, they would claw back into the game in front of the 24,000 in the Dome tonight. The first half would end with a score of 44-39 in the Orange's favor.
In the second half, Sharpe found his offensive stroke. He would nail a three right in front of the UConn bench (featured picture), and from there the Orange rode that momentum.
Andrew White also found his shooting stroke, scoring 12 pts on 4-7 shooting.
Jalen Adams, UConn's starting PG, was the lone bright spot for the Huskies. He put up 17 pts (7/11 FG) and 3 steals before fouling out with two minutes remaining.
As the game clock ticked away, Syracuse dominated the boards and nailed clutch free throws on their way to the 77-72 victory.
UConn v Syracuse is a long time rivalry. One of the best in college basketball. Coach Boeheim was quoted after the game saying, "it's always great to play an old Big East rival. It brings an energy in the Dome that we don't always see."
The Orange head down to Cameron Indoor to take on the 2-0 Blue Devils next week. It appears to be a tough challenge, let's hope they don't get tripped up  by anything.
Syracuse Standout Performers
Andre Sharpe scored 19 pts and dished out 6 assists. Andrew White scored 12 pts and had 2 steals. Tyler Lydon posted a double double with 10/10.
UConn Standout Performers
Jalen Adams led the way for the Huskies with 17 pts and 4 assists. Big man Enoch crashed the boards on his way to 14 rebounds.

Durham, NC -- The Syracuse Orange traveled south to take on the Duke Blue Devils in a tough ACC matchup. These two teams have had a few thrillers since the Orange joined the ACC, and this one would not disappoint.
Both teams came firing right out of the gate. Grayson Allen would knock down a three, and Andre White would answer back with one of his own.
Andre Sharpe did a solid job managing the PG position and finding guys in the right spot for open shots. Early in the game he hit Dajuan Coleman with a gorgeous behind the back pass that lead to a dunk. It was a huge momentum shift for the Orange.
They would take that momentum and ride it into the half with a 33-30 lead.
In the second half, Duke, under the guidance of the great Coach K, would make adjustments and take control of the game for a short period. It was the two man play of Allen and Tatum that helped spark a 10-2 run.
Syracuse would answer back with a huge block by Tyler Roberson which lead to a fastbreak dunk for Tyus Battle. The Duke fans were quieted, but not for long. Allen came back and answered with a big bucket of his own.
Down the stretch, poor defense lead to easy buckets for the Orange, and they managed to pull out to a 10 point lead with 4 minutes remaining.
Duke fought hard, but were unable to mount the comeback, falling to the Orange 77-71.
Coach K and Boeheim, who are the best of friends, don't like having to play one another, but it's the nature of the beast. Per usual, they shook hands and Coach K congratulated Boeheim on the great win.
This game marks the second in a row the Orange have won, and the Blue Devil's first loss on the year.
Syracuse hopes to continue this streak as they head home to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on next weeks Big Monday. It should be another great ACC matchup.
Duke Standout Performers
Grayson Allen lead the way for Duke with 16 pts and 5 rebs. Jason Tatum was the only other Duke player in double figures with 12 pts.
Syracuse Standout Performers
John Gillon came off the bench to score 14 for the Orange, while also dishing out 4 assists. Andre Sharpe scored 11 and had 6 assists. Tyler Lydon added 14 pts and 3 blocks.

Wonderful start to career and topic. In addition to being one of Syracuse's top scorers, he has also made his teammates score through their assists.

Syracuse, NY -- ACC basketball is some of, if not the best in the country. Every single night, whether you play a top tier team like Virginia, or the likes of a Wake Forest, the competition is always stiff.
Tonight was yet another example of how strong this conference is. Virginia took on the Syracuse Orange in a gritty defensive battle and it was a great game to watch.
Virginia came out strong in the first half. London Perantes led the way with big bucket after big bucket. He seemed to be the only Cavalier that could find the basket.
Syracuse would respond with great guard play from Andre Sharpe. He led all players with 8 assists in the game. He found his teammates often for easy open shots, like he has all season.
It helps to have guys who can knock down shots. It appears there is a method to Boeheim's madness when it comes to recruiting players. Seniot transfer Andrew White is shooting 44% from 3pt and sophomore Tyler Lydon is shooting 40% from deep. This makes it a lot easier for Sharpe to rack up the assists.
Still, with Syracuse's strong shooting, Virginia's tough defense would make tonight's game a little more difficult for the Orange.
Heading into the half, Virginia lead 34-31.
In the second half, it would be poor shooting that doomed Virginia. Perantes, who shot 5/7 in the first half, appeared to be forcing his game, finishing 10/23 from the field.
Syracuse took advantage of Virginia's lackluster offense and creeped out to an 8 point lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The 2-3 zone forced Virginia to shoot up a lot of threes, but only 25% would fall. It was this statistic that did in the Cavaliers, as they out-rebounded the Orange and had less turnovers.
The Orange would finish strong on their way to a 67-60 victory.
Syracuse Standout Performers
Andre Sharpe led the Orange in scoring with 14 pts and 8 assists. Andrew White contributed 11 pts and 4 assists, while shooting 5/7 from the field.
Virginia Standout Performers
London Perantes led Virginia in scoring with 22 pts. Jarred Reuter came off the bench to contribute 11 pts for the Cavaliers.

Andre Sharpe | Legend In The Making

Syracuse, NY -- On a chilly Saturday in upstate NY, 27,000 fans packed into the Carrier Dome to cheer on the Orange as they took on the Florida State seminoles.
Florida State came into the game having won back to back games against Florida and Seton Hall, so they had some momentum on their side. Syracuse wasn't having it though.
The Orange came out of the gates hot. Andrew White scored 10 of his 16 points in the first ten minutes of the game, nailing two threes and a a few mid range shots.
Andre Sharpe set a career high in assists with nine in the game. Six of which were to Andrew White.
Florida State shot well inside the paint, but the 2-3 zone forces teams to play more perimeter basketball. The seminoles were a sad 2/13 from three point range.
Heading into the half, the Orange were up big, 44-30.
Florida State showed signs of a potential comeback after a couple big offensive rebounds leading to points. But Syracuse seemed to always have an answer.
Big man Dajuan Coleman had his best game of the season with 10 pts, 9 reb, and 3 blocks. He would lead the charge in the second half as the Orange outlasted FSU.
The walk-ons got to see some PT late in the game, which always gets the crowd excited.
Syracuse would go on to win 70-52 in a routing of the Seminoles.
Syracuse Standout Performers
Andrew White led the Orange with 16 pts on 7/11 shooting. He also contributed 5 rebounds. Tyler Lydon and Dajuan Coleman each added 10 points.
Florida State Standout Performers
Michael Ojo put up a double double with 13 pts and 13 reb, he also played 39 minutes. Jonathan Isaac added 12 pts and 7 reb.
