            Game 1 of 82: vs 76ers

Wizards Show Mental Fortitude, Claw Back to 93-87 Victory

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Wizards were abysmal in the first half of season opener, down doubt digits very, very early. The first quarter, the Wizards shot 30% and the 2nd quarter wasn't much better. In fact, it was worse. None of the Washington players could find a rhythm as the 76ers continued to pound the ball inside, and force turnovers on the other end of the court.

The Wizards managed to stay strong though, and they finally took the lead with 4 minutes in the 4th quarter thanks to a John Wall 3 from the top of the court. Wall finished with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals.

2 minutes later and 76ers top scorer Joel Embiid was forced to watch the rest of the game from the bench as he fouled out, with the Wizards up only a basket. Embiid had a double-double, with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Wizards were able to erase a 19 point deficit to pick up their first win on the young season.

Game 2 of 82: vs Pistons

Wall Hits Game Winner, Wizards Top Pistons 103 - 101

WASHINGTON, DC -- John Wall scored 35 points tonight, but his most important points came with just 1.8 seconds left in the 4th quarter. With 5 seconds left in the 4th quarter of a tie game, Detroit Center Andre Drummond fouled out on a controversial illegal pick call, giving the Wizards the ball back. After a timeout, Gortat got the ball to Wall, who sunk the game winner.

Gortat was no slouch himself in the 4th quarter, putting up 10 points and 10 rebounds in the 4th quarter alone. He finished the night with 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Both Wall and Gortat finished with double doubles, while PG Tim Frazier was a pleasant surprise off the bench tonight. Frazier scored 11 points with 4 assists in 15 minutes, many of the points coming in a crucial 3rd quarter where the Wizards scored 34 points.

The Wizards have been struggling during the first half of games so far this season, but finishing strong in the 2nd half, shooting close to if not over 50%. Perhaps if they were to take better shots for the entire game instead of during crunch time, these games would not be as close.
