Re: Wizards hang in, grab Game 5.

Oh, man, what a close series! Jason Kidd is an animal, the Nets are definitely showing they're not intimidated by MJ and his squad.

Jordan might be tired in this series, the young bloods are really forcing him to dig deep.
    Any comments are welcome.

Yeah can't stop Kidd running the show... Almost Triple-Doubles every game. If Van Horn and K Mart show up we're cooked. Cpu has dropped my minutes to a steady 30, but in order to win this next game I have to change the rotation. Changed Collins playbook to 2013 Heat for last game, and you can see the difference it made... Big 3 with 20 each! Hopefully not too little too late!

Celtics swept Pacers and are waiting in East finals. Lakers - Mavs is 3-3 and Kings-Spurs 3-3 aswell!

Man, Jordan pulled one out there. He's locked in for Game 7, but the lack of triples from the Wizards is concerning ... Washington can't bet on living in the paint without some threat from deep. Gonna be a tense Game 7.

Yea we couldn't hit a three for love nor money. Worst thing about player lock, team can be so inconsistent. We shot an insane amount of free throws and that won it, cancelled out the Nets threes. Mullin, Kerr and Hamilton need to hit from deep. Bigs need to out rebound Martin. I'll have to go even more heroball as Kidd won't be as quiet in Game 7!

                    Patrick Ewing?!?!

Out of the past, throwing out a vintage performance, big Ewing slams the door on the Nets and sends the Wizards to the ECF! Talk abut unexpected heroes.

The Celtics will be a tough matchup, lots of young talent in their prime there, but if you can get another performance like that from Ewing, you might just have the veteran moxy to get all the way.

Around the NBA - Round 2

Around the NBA - Round 2.

                      May 8th, 2002 | by NBA.COM

                      Eastern Conference.

                      Wizards vs Nets.
What an epic battle these two teams had. In round 2 we had 3 series go to 7 games, and this one involved the best comeback of them all. The Wizards were down 3-1 and headed back to Washington for a must win game. Rip Hamilton, Jordan and Christian Laettner all scored over 20 points to give their franchise some hope that this series was still alive. Limiting Jason Kidd and keeping Kenyon Martin off the boards was always the key to coming back, and that's what the Wizards set out to do. In game 6 Jordan led the way with 26 points, but Ewing and Kwame Brown kept Martin quiet, and dominated the boards to steal another one in New Jersey.

In game 7, cometh the hour, cometh the man. The man just happened to be Patrick Ewing who went 10-14 from the field for 25 points and 10 rebounds. Ewing has had only two big games all season, and this one was really well timed. Jordan hit 22 points as the Wizards comfortably beat the Nets in an anti-climatic game 7. The top 4 in the East were only separated by 1 game, so its no surprise we have some close games in the playoffs so far. The Wizards elder statesmen are running on fumes at this stage, but at least they are still running.

                      Celtics vs Pacers.
Boston has grown throughout the season, as their youthful core has learned the ropes from their handful of veterans. Charles Oakley has been an underated acquisition at the deadline. He has allowed players like Antoine Walker to shine like in Game 1 when he hit 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Game 3 where he had 25 points and 20 rebounds and finally in Game 4 he finished with 24 points and 18 boards. 'The Truth' Paul Pierce has been steady and is happy to play second fiddle to Walker in the playoffs. His 27 in Game 2 and 24 in Game 4 was good enough to get it done.

The Pacers never got started in this series as their near elimination to the Raptors took their toll. Reggie Miller came out fighting with 27 points in the first game, and 22 in Game 2, but as the series wore on, Miller faded fast. The bulk of the offense ran through Jalen Rose who has been playing the Point Forward role, and the inside scoring powerhouse of Jermaine O'Neal.

O'Neal had a double-double in every game, most impressive being the 28 and 20 in game 4, but the Celtics duo of Walker and Pierce still closed out the sweep. Jalen Rose cut a frustrated figure at the end and was constantly going back and forward with the officials. Rose had over 8 assists in every game, but his scoring average of 12ppg just wasn't enough. Celtics roll on, and they look to be an incredibly tough matchup for the Wizards. Full of youth but they also have vets like Kenny Anderson and Charles Oakley to lean on.

                      Western Conference

                      Lakers vs Mavericks.
Out West we had two more 7 game thrillers. Most unlikely series to go 7 games went to the Lakers and Mavs. This series went with home court advantage all the way through. Lakers went up 2-0 behind some great numbers from Shaq, 40 points and 22 rebounds in Game 1, and Kobe who hit 30 points in Game 2. Mavs went home and drew back level as their big trio of Nash, Finley and Nowitzki caugh fire. Dirk and Nash ran the pick and roll to perfection, abusing Derek Fisher and Robert Horry who couldn't slow them down. Nash has 32 points and 16 assists in Game 3, Nowitzki had 30 points in Game 3 and 27 in Game 4.

Michael Finley gave Rick Fox fits as he too broke the 20 point barrier 4 times in the series. But Fox had some good games himself, in Game 5 he hit 20 points as the Lakers blew out the Mavs to take a 3-2 advantage. After the Mavs tied the series in Dallas, we headed to the Staples Center for Game 7. Kobe and Shaq are a dominant duo, but Kobes star shone brighest in the 4th quarter with 15 points. Kobes ability to shoot the three edged the series in the end, as he continues to develop into one of the top players in the league nightly. Lakers go to the wire again in a series, and the Conference finals may not be any easier.

                      Kings vs Spurs.
The Spurs came in as a #7 seed but they were always better than that. The Kings who are possibly a #2 seed found all about that. The Kings looked to be cruising home with a 3-1 lead in the series. Chris Webber and Vlade Divac were barely edging the matchup with Duncan and Robinson. All 4 players were grabbing double-doubles every night. Peja Stojakovic was the X- Factor at this time, with 39 points in Game 4.

But the Spurs ability to grind games out, and slow the pace down emerged in the do or die Game 5 in Sacramento. Steve Smith nailed three's all night off excellent passing from Duncan and Robinson. But it was the play of Rookie Tony Parker from the Spurs who grabbed the series by the throat and brought it into a Game 7. Parker almost had a triple-double in Game 5 and 6, with 12 pts, 9rebs and 13 asts, then in Game 6 13pts, 7 rebs and 12 assists. Parker has really been taken under the wings of Duncan and Robinson it seems and is developing at an incredible rate.

The series was again decided by the Kings newly acquired warrior Mike Bibby though, Bibby hit 11 points in the 4th quarter of Game 7, as the Kings needed an extra boost from the outside as Peja Stojakovic was locked down by Bruce Bowen. Kings escape with a victory, but they better have some energy left, as their series with the Lakers will be another slugfest.
