Re: One Last Shot: Jordan's Final Chapter.

Bit of a lull on this one for the last few days guys. Hope to have one or two more updates up by end of weekend. Tight on time at the moment, just got a Head Coaching job with a D2 and D3 Womens team in regional league. Started preseason training last Tuesday, so have been busy planning out a lot of practices, and offensive and defensive schemes for both teams! Couple that with returning to work as a high school teacher, I have 4 boys teams to coach there, my free time is drastically cut down!

Will def finish the new season, but it will now take me a lot longer than i'd hoped!

No problem, man, you're doing good work with the kids. That's more important than this, you've got your priorities straight -- we'll be here when you've got time.

Free Agency Round Up July 6th 2002

Free agency roundup - Still no decision from Jordan.

        July 6th, 2002 | by NBA.COM

With only a day left in the free agency moratorium, a large number of deals have been agreed in principle. There are still a few free agents who are still taking visits from teams, and they should be decided upon within the next 24 hours. The biggest name still on the market has to be Michael Jordan. Jordan has watched the Wizards miss out on Chauncey Billups, Matt Harpring and Ricky Davis. The Wizards did however sign Point Guard Larry Hughes from the Warriors which is a big signing.

Will it be enough if the Wizards use their remaining $4 million in cap-space to swing a trade for an aging veteran? It seems like their only option at this point, as rumors must be swirling around the league at the moment. It has given free agents pause for thought about joining a Jordan less Wizards team. The addition of Jerry Stackhouse, athletics guard Larry Hughes and two blue collar workhorses in Byron Russell and old Jordan teammate Charles Oakley is a very good start for the Wizards. With one day remaining before Jordan said he will decide, Wizards fans collectively hold their breath. Here is a round up of all other agreed deals so far:

          Jordan's Decision - July 7th 2002

          Michael Jordan - The Decision.

          July 7th, 2002 | by NBA.COM

Hi, I'm Michael Wilbon, and I'm here for a momentous occasion in sports history tonight. Thank you very much for tuning in here to ESPN. Everybody is on pins and needles across the country, particularly those teams who are in the running for Michael Jordan.

What have you thought about this past week since opting out?

This week has been everything I've thought about and more. I went through this once a few years ago with Chicago. With my level of performance this past season, I have put myself in a position to have this process again. Due to some unexpected changes this off-season, I seized the opportunity to hear teams' pitches and figure out what was the best possible chance for me to compete at the highest level once more.

You weren't expecting to do this when you came back from retirement last September. Have you enjoyed this unexpected recruiting process?

I have enjoyed it. And I want to thank all seven of the teams that I had an opportunity to sit down with and hear what they had to say.

It's been an unbelievable experience, a real humbling experience to be even to be in this position. I am 39 years old, and to still be sought after by some of the best teams in the NBA is an honor. I wasn't sure if I could still do it at age 38, but I think I have proven there is life in the old dog yet.

What did you expect? Because we've seen giant billboards all week. We've seen teams try to chase certain players in free agency, and try to pull off trades they think you would approve of. What did you expect from this process?

Well, there are certain things that you can't control. But I expected to be able to go through this and be able to sit down with my team and sit across from other teams and hear how they feel with me being a part of their team, how I could help them win and how I could ultimately help their organisation. I have maybe one more season left at the top, so it's also important that these teams realise that.

And the process was everything I expected and more. And like I said before, I just thank all those teams that have come to Washington and allowed us have those meetings and have that process. It was everything that I could have expected and more.

How many people know your decision right now?

Not many. It's a very, very small number. And I probably could count them on my fingers.

          When did you decide?

I decided this morning. I went day to day. I wake up one morning, it's this team. I wake up another morning, it's this team. And I feel like this is the best opportunity for me or not the best opportunity for me.

But this morning I woke up, had a great conversation with my wife Juanita and my mom Deloris. Once I had that conversation with them, I think I was set.

So the last time you changed your mind was yesterday?

The last time I changed my mind was probably in my dreams. And when I woke up this morning I knew it was the right decision.

So does the team that you're going to, that you'll announce in a few minutes, do they know your decision?

          They just found out.

          They just found out?

Yeah, David's just been on the phone to them.

So the other six teams, on pins and needles, they don't know; they'll be listening to this?

          Right.

Who in this process, Michael, have you taken advice from and who has had the biggest influence?

I've taken a lot of advice from my friends and family. My agent, David Falk, has been great. A lot of people that I look towards in a time of need or for advice, and ultimately they looked at me and said you ultimately have to live with your decision that you're going to make, and you have to do what's best for you, for your family and for you to ultimately be happy.

What was the major factor, the major reason in your decision?

I think the major factor and the major reason in my decision was that I made a promise to some people a few years ago. And it just didn't work out the way we thought it would. Things worked out pretty well for me personally after that, but I always felt I owed these people another shot.

How big was the factor of trying to win one more championship ring next year?

One thing that you can't control is you never know. You never know. You want to put yourself in the position where you feel that it's the best opportunity. But saying I can win a championship next year, well that's one of those things that you don't know until you go out there and actually play the game.

But you have to put yourself in the right position to be able to compete and also accomplish the goals that you set out for. I like to surround myself with people I trust, people I know want to win at all costs. Battle hardened people. And most of all an organisation who is willing to do or spend whatever it takes to win a championship.

Do you have any doubts about your decision?

No. I've made a decision now, and I'm not going to think about it again.

Would you like to sleep on it a little longer, or are you ready to make this decision?

          I've slept enough

You've had everybody biting their nails. So I guess it's time for them to stop chewing. The answer to the question everybody wants to know: Michael, what's your decision?

          Spoiler

AHHHHHHHH, yes. The KNICKS. I love it, MJ in the Big Apple, Ewing back with the franchise that never should have traded him, one (or perhaps more?) last ride with Jordan as Michael attempts to give a title to a team he routinely knocked out of the playoffs in his prime. Awesome stuff.

Yeah I needed some excitement, and through trawling lots of old articles I stumbled on this one, Jordan almost signing with the Knicks in 96. Had to give Ewing a proper retirement as Knick. The Knicks have reloaded well this summer with Artest and rookie Stoudemire, but will Jordan stay patient with yet another rookie big man...

I did a very similar thing in my alternate history dynasty (The Oddesy of Ronald Bazemore) which had the Knicks sign Jordan in 1996 and I (as the Heat) taking Kobe and Shareef Abdur-Rahim in the draft (while signing Dominique Wilkins as my veteran SF). It was a blast. Jordan did very well for NYK but couldn't quite get to the Finals (as my team got in his way).

Ewing and Jordan, man that's a dream duo if you ask me. Definitely following for sure. It ain't real life, but maybe MJ can lift that curse Patrick set on the Knicks blowing that Finals win

Awesome stuff. Gonna be fun seeing what MJ does playing in the Garden 41 times. Even at this point in his career, I'm sure he'll find a way to step up on the elevated stage of MSG more than a few times.

Yeah I remember reading bits of that on here years ago! Was a nice angle, rewriting history is always damn fun like that.

Lets see what happens, Golden Oldies, but they both showed last season that they still have some gas left in the tank!

Yeah, I just had to try it. Love playing in MSG in the game, and who better to do it with other than Jordan.

                        Jordan Officially signs with Knicks.

                        Jordan officially signs with Knicks.

                        July 8th, 2002 | by SLAMMAGAZINE.COM

The New York Knicks announced today that the team has signed free agent forward Michael Jordan. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is assumed that Jordan has signed for 1 year $1 Million deal similar to last season with the Wizards. Jordan will again donate all his salary to the 9/11 survivors fund.

The 39-year old Brooklyn native, originally drafted third overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984 NBA Draft, joins the Knicks following a third comeback year where he stunned many naysayers with regular season averages of (21.6) in scoring, (5.3) in rebounding, (5.2) in assists and (1.9) in steals. Jordan helped drag the Washington Wizards into the playoffs last season where they reached an Eastern Conference Final against the Boston Celtics.

It was an incredible turnaround for the Wizards who had the worst regular season record in the league the previous season. Jordan beat all his regular season averages in the playoffs with 27.8ppg, 6.1rpg, 5.9apg and 2.1 steals per game. Jordan found that extra level as he always has. Jordan teams up with Knicks Legend Patrick Ewing once more this season. If Ewing and Jordan can have the same effect they had on the Wizards, the Knicks are in for one hell of a turnaround season.

Jeff van Gundy has returned from his sabbatical to take up the head coaching reins again. Van Gundy will be delighted to have Jordan by his side this time around after the many Knicks-Bulls playoff wars.

“Michael is still an extremely talented, cereberal, multi-dimensional player who we’re excited to have join the Knicks,” said Scott Layden, General Manager. “With Michael, we’re adding another experienced, focused and driven player. He was in the running for MVP last season, and elevated an extremely young squad to become one of the top teams in the league. We’re confident he will help galvanise our roster along with Pat and excel playing in Madison Square Garden as he has done in the past. This time luckily he will be wearing a Knicks uniform.”

Man, Jordan, Artest, Ewing, Stoudamire ... who's running point? Do they need one? That team is LOADED, but it's really going to have to rely on the young guys to carry their weight in the regular season -- got to have Jordan and Ewing fresh for the playoffs.

Bump. Managed to get a 2002-03 Roster set up for 2k19 on PC. With my new rig, It looks so much better. Just tailoring it to reflect all trades and transactions linked with this story. Jordan almost set to start balling in NYC!!
