    Knicks Stun Warriors

Oakland, CA -- The New York Knicks pulled off an improbable win in Oracle Arena against the three-time defending champs; albeit a very different looking three-time defending championship Warriors team.

Trailing 91-80 with 6:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Knicks were backed into the deepest of corners. That's when Jelani Birch went into takeover mode and outdueled two-time MVP Stephen Curry. However, it was Kristaps Porzingis that delivered the biggest moment of the game. After Klay Thompson split a pair of free throws to leave the Warriors lead at two points (102-100), Birch found a rolling Porzingis who absorbed the contact, finished strong for two points, and sank a free throw to put the Knicks ahead 103-102 with 7.3 seconds left on the clock.

The comeback seemed complete...briefly. On the ensuing inbounds play from the frontcourt, Steph Curry sprang free off a double-down screen and calmly knocked down his eighth three-pointer of the night to put the Warriors on top 105-103 with 4.9 seconds remaining. Enter Porzingis....again.

Birch came free a the top of the key on the sideline out-of-bounds, took one dribble, drawing two-defenders, and hit an open Porzingis in the corner who calmly drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to seal the Knicks victory.

Jelani Birch notched another triple-double with 25 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists. The hero Porzingis finished with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Tim Hardaway Jr. also scored 20+ points with 21 points and 4 rebounds.

For the Warriors, Stephen Curry scored 34 points, doled out 7 assists, and grabbed 7 rebounds. Klay Thompson scored 24 points, dished out 6 assists, and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Birch Makes His Mark With All-Star Nod in Rookie Season

His rookie season has been nothing short of historic. The only other player in NBA history to put up the type of numbers in their rookie season that Jelani Birch is averaging is the great Oscar Robertson. Birch, who's comparisons lie somewhere between LeBron James and Oscar Robertson, is, no doubt about it, a great player already. Being selected to the All-Star team in his rookie season, a season in which he is averaging 25 PPG, 9 RPG, and 7 APG, doesn't prove it or validate it; no, being selected an All-Star is just something else to add to the list of accomplishments by Birch in his rookie season.

"It's a great honor to be selected to the All-Star team. Obviously. I'm very humbled by it and can't wait to spend a week rubbing elbows and working with the best in the game. KD's my dude and now I get to practice with him and be on his team? It's...unreal," Jelani Birch said in a press-conference after the All-Star rosters were announced.

The Knicks, 28-26, have already surpassed last season's win-total of just 24 wins. Birch will be joined in the All-Star game by teammate Kristaps Porzingis who will be making his second straight all-star appearance. Porzingis is averaging 22.2 PPG, 8.9 RPG, and a career high 2.5 APG.

The East Nips the West in 174-171 Thriller

Philadelphia, PA (AP) -- Rookies aren't supposed to make the All-Star game, and they certainly aren't supposed to be the best player on the floor. But for one, in a game featuring the best players in the NBA, that's exactly what Jelani Birch was. The rookie sensation from New York was an unstoppable force, even in the fourth quarter when both teams actually started trying on defense. Birch finished the game with 36 points and 10 assists as he took home MVP honors in the East's 174-171 victory.

In a back-and-forth fourth quarter, the two teams traded bucket after bucket. The final minute was a riveting one that resulted in four lead changes (in favor of the West) and five ties. James Harden managed to spring free behind the three-point line, but his three-point attempt to tie the game rimmed out as the clock expired.

Joel Embiid aided Birch with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists for the East, and teammate Kevin Durant added 23 points. For the West, Stephen Curry led the scoring with 34 points to go along with his 7 assists. James Harden was next in line with 19 points and 7 assists.

Looking good in 5th place, but the Celtics have a very sizeable gap ahead in 4th. It will be difficult to get a top 4 seed this year, but considering where you started that's still a major improvement.
