2019 Draft Lottery Results & Final Mock Draft

    * The picture has a few teams off as the protections don't match up to real life

    1. 76ers - SF R.J Barrett
What a time to be alive if your a 76ers fan not only do you win the championship the Kings pick ends up 1st overall so you get to hold on to it. They can now draft R.J Barrett who is the perfect fit for them. He will be other 3rd scorer they need and is the best wing defender in the draft. This now likely means they use their cap space to strength the bench and not bring in a star player.

    2. Hawks - PF Zion Williamson
If this happens the Hawks pick between Zion and Cam Reddish we say they go Zion as he is just to talented and unique to pass on

    3. Knicks - SF Cam Reddish
The Knicks don't need a SF with Knox and Hezonja both playing the 3 last year. They could look to trade out of it however they can move the Lee contract in other ways. In this mock they take BPA and go with Cam and figure out the rest later. They might go with Little who can play more small ball 4.

    4. Cavs - SF Nassir Little
This should be a easy pick and the Cavs go with whoever is still not been picked out of the top 4 players.

    5. Hornets - SG Romeo Langford
A lot of trade rumors going around with this one as the Hornets desperately need a G as its looking like Kemba Walker is gone. Its to early for them to take a PG and they don't need a SF.

    6. Grizzles - C Bol Bol
Mark Gasol is getting up and age and they grab the BPA and Bol can team with Jackson for a exciting 4-5. They will be tempted by a SF also or could look to trade back a few spots and dump Parsons contract.

    7. Pelicans - SF Sekou Dumbuya
They are in a great spot to fill their biggest need with a SF

    8. Nuggets - SF Rui Hachmura
They likely go with whats left at SF unless they reach a bit and take a big

    9. Hawks - SG Keldon Johnson
SG is a major need and he offers athleticism and potential

    10. Magic - PG Ja Morant
Insert whatever PG you like here

Man, Philly OWNED the season. Getting the top pick is amazing, they're set up for a dynasty, barring a major injury -- the NBA hasn't seen a successful trade like that since the days of the 80s Celtics, who routinely swiped good picks from bad teams.

Hawks should be excited to get Zion, he'll be a heck of a player with Trae Young captaining the team.

Yea the 76ers are loaded now and long term will have a starting 5 of Ben - Fultz (80ish ovr now) - Barrett - Saric - Embiid. They have a lot of bodies at 1 through 3 off the bench and should be able to add a quality PF / C in FA with their cap room. I am excited as this gives me a go to elite team to challenge through out all of this. Them being my team from last year also makes it fun.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2k19 "Trusting The Process Again"

          Hawks Look To Trade Up

The Hawks have put out word they are aggressively interested In trading up in the draft. The recent rumors are they are expected to take SF/PF Zion Williamson 2nd overall. They are loaded with the assets it would take to move up in the draft and the cap space to take on a bad contract. They also have the 9th and 14th pick in the draft and the rumor we heard is they are trying to get a deal done without having to include the 14th pick. They also have the 1st, 4th and 14th pick in the 2nd round so it would make sense for like the 4th and 14th picks to be included. They currently sit with 22 million in cap space and could create even more by letting Justin Anderson walk in FA. Lets take a look at what some potential deals could look like.

          Knicks
This is the least likely as the Knicks jumped up 6 to 3 in the lottery and they already have a lot of cap space. They would like to move the salaries of Courtney Lee and THJ however they should be able to do that without giving up the 3rd pick. Also the price tag to jump from 9 to 3 would be very steep.

Hawks Get - 3rd pick, Courtney Lee (77 ovr)
          Knicks Get - 9th pick, 14th pick, two early 2nds, a future 1st

The Knicks get two lottery picks, a future 1st and shed the salary of either Lee or THJ

          Cavs
The Cavs are another team that has to atleast look at what the offer is and they definitely have some bad contracts they could move. One issue about trading for the 4th pick is your likely getting the leftovers of the elite 4 to 6 guys in the draft. The Cavs aren't likely to trade Triston Thompson who had a good year averaging 12 rebounds a game. George Hill is another bad contract they could trade however he is injured. Their 1st round pick is also top 10 protected for next year and after that it becomes two 2nds.

          Hawks Get - 4th pick, J.R Smith (76 ovr)
          Cavs Get - 9th pick, 14th pick, early 2nd, mid 2nd

Cavs would pick up another lottery pick and shed JRs salary. They have so many other big salaries they still likely wouldn't have enough to be buyers in FA.

          Grizzles
A interesting team stuck in the middle with proven vets and at some point a 1st round pick that will go to the Celtics. They could use one of the SG/ SF's that are expected to in the the 6 to 9 range. Since they have 6th pick they out of the range of the truly elite wing prospects.

Hawks Get - 6th pick, Chandler Parsons (77 ovr), two 2nd round picks
Grizzles Get - 9th pick, Miles Plumlee (73 ovr), two 2nd rounders this year

In this trade the Grizzles trade back and save about 15 million bucks and can still land a wing to play right away. That should open up cap space to sign a few 2nd tier FAs. The Hawks aren't likely to take on all 25 million of Parsons contract just to move up 3 spots in the draft.

          Hornets
We are saving them for last because this team makes the most sense and they are a ton of ways to make this trade work. They have the 5th pick so the question is what do the Hawks trade to move up from 9 to 5? The Hornets are loaded with 4 SF's that are all worthy of minutes and also have a lot of bodies at PF and C. Since they are expected to lose Kemba Walker in FA they could trade back to take 9 which is one spot ahead of the Magic and draft the top PG on their board. Biyombo is a name it makes sense to move as he only played in 38 games last year in mostly garbage times as he played just 6 minutes a game

          Hawks Get - 5th pick,
Hornets Get- 9th pick, 14th pick

This is a easy one the Hornets trade back and this allows them to take a PG and a SG. It also saves the Hawks cap space to be used in aother trade. The Hawks would be "stuck" with all the 2nd round picks as they don't lose any of them here.

          --------

Hawks Get - 5th pick, Biyombo (75 ovr)
Hornets Get - 9th pick, two 2nd round picks, Miles Plumlee (75 ovr), Future 1st round pick

Hornets save about 6 million $ in the swap of C and pick up some 2nd round picks this year. They also grab a 1st round pick which would likely be either the Pelicans next year or Thunder in 22.

          --------------

Hawks Get - 5th pick, MKG (76 ovr), Biyombo (75 ovr)
Hornets Get - 9th pick, two 2nd round picks, Miles Plumlee (73 ovr)

They Hornets save about 19 million in salary and can still take the top ranked PG. Biyombo defense and rebounding would be much better then anything currently on the Hawks roster. MKG once a really good defender is only average at this point and not worth the 13 million this year. This seems like a trade that makes sense for both teams. This allows the Hornets a much cleaner cap sheet going forward as they likely look to be picking in the lottery again next year.

          --------------

Hawks Get - 5th pick, Batum (78 ovr)
Hornets Get -14th pick, Miles Plumlee (73 ovr), 2nd round pick

This is the least likely to happen and its Similar to the Grizz trade the Hornets save about 15 million in salary this year and the entire 27 million next year. I'm sure they would prefer not to take Plumlee back again however he can always be bought out. The plus side from the Hawks side they get to hang on to the 9th pick. Even though Batum still is s a solid player taking his contract next year cuts big into your dreams of adding a useful player in FA next summer. Its also hard to see the Hornets wanting to drop all the way from 5 to 14 so they could always ask for the 9th pick.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2k19 "Trusting The Process Again"

                2019 Draft - Picks 1 to 5

                1. 76ers - SF R.J Barrett

The 76ers hit the homerun of the NBA decade when they not only won the NBA championship hung on to the 1st overall pick. A small protection from the Fultz / Tatum trade that was originally gifted to them by the Kings has the fan base dancing in the streets with excitement. R.J is the 3rd star the team needs that will now make them one of the best teams for the next decade. He is considered the drafts best wing defender and will likely eventually be the 2nd scoring option. The trio of Simmons, Embiid and R.J is going to cause nightmares and oh yea they have about 30 million in cap space to spend.

                2. Hawks - PF Zion Williamson

The Hawks saved a lot of sleepless nights when they landed the 2nd pick over the 1st as they took whoever was on board between Zion and R.J. Cam was also in the mix in the end the intrigue of a athlete like Zion was just to much to pass on. His ability to score inside was the main reason. We will have plenty of time to discuss if the 6'7 and 285 pounder is a better fit at SF or PF.

                3. Knicks - SF Cam Reddish

They didn't need a SF after drafting Knox last year just Cam was to good to pass up on. Cam should be able to score 15 a night as a rookie and grow into a all star. If they can land a high level FA the will be legit threats to win the east this year. He may be the best pure scorer in the draft.

                4. Cavs - SF Nassir Little

Cavs also get to sit back and take whoever fell and they get Little who has as much potential as anyone in the class. He will start at SF this year and if Love gets moved down the line could become the PF. He is a raw player so don't expect him to put up huge stats his rookie year.

                5. Hornets - Romeo Langford

The Hawks and Hornets had a ton of trade discussions in the end the talks fell apart at the last minute. They wanted a PG however none of them was worth drafting 5th overall. They do take a SG who is very young and loaded with potential that can also play right away. They will have to address the PG need in other ways as they have a log jam of minutes a lot of positions. This now gives them 3 straight years of investing a high pick on a wing so look for them to be very active in moving some older players this summer.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2k19 "Trusting The Process Again"

                  2019 Draft - Picks 6 to 10

The Hawks traded up with the Grizzles and move up from the 9th pick to the 6th pick. They had to take on the Chandler Parsons contract as the main piece on moving up. They did send back Miles Plumlee so in total the Grizzles save about $14 million. Plumlee did improve very slightly last year and Memphis didn't have a backup C on the roster still his best asset is his expiring contract. Parsons will upgrade the backup SF minutes which was was Justin Anderson last year. He brings yet another shooter on the team and makes for a interesting pair with Ryan Anderson. Memphis also picked up the 4th pick in the 2nd round so which should bring in a solid rookie

                  6 Hawks - C Bol Bol

Was their ever any doubt who the Hawks really wanted to take with this pick? He was the clear cut best post defender and rebounder in the class which overall was very weak for bigs. He will be counted on to anchor the defense and should step in right away and average double figure rebounds. Last year Atlanta was 30th in rebounds and 28th in blocks and he instantly makes them better in those areas. The Hawks front court appears to be set for the longterm with Bol, Zion, Collins and Spellman.

                  7.Pelicans - SG Quintin Grimes

Many expected him to go 5th to the Hornets as he might be able to play PG. He fills a major hole at SG and Bazmore will slid over to SF. He is only 18 and still has some work to do however he can score inside and will likey be getting 30 minutes a night.

                  8. Nuggets - SF Sekou Doumbouya

They wanted a big and many expected them to take the other Porter however they get fantastic value for a team that likely wont be picking in the lottery for a long time. He is from france and only 19 and is loaded with athleticism and potential. His job early on will be defending and if Michael Porter develops he could be the long-term starting 4.

                  9. Grizzles - SG Keldon Johnson

They trade down 3 spots and get a player many had mocked to them at 6. He fills a need at SG and is going to be able to hold his own with his defense. He should be a starter for them for a long time even if he never develops a 3 point shoot. He is the last of what was considered "the big 9" so the talent starts dropping off now.

                  10. Magic - PG Dennis Garland

Everyone in the league knew they was taking a PG and they get the best in the class. When the combine was over his stock sky rocketed mostly because his speed. He is going to get a ton of playing time right away. He may never make a all star team, but the Magic finally have a PG to get excited about. He is one of the fastest PG in the league and that alone should at least make him a valuable reserve. If he can reach his potential while they likely have another lottery pick next year watch out.

Great thread so far, been thinking about starting a Hawks save myself as they seem to be the best team to rebuild, but I'm English and whilst I follow the NBA casually and Draftkings I have no idea how all the draft picks/protected picks/ work but reading this is making things slightly clearer of what I need to do/expect. I.e signing the best scout available at the start.

If you're looking for a good reference site for future draft picks and protections, and ones that explain it pretty simply, this is the place I use.

If you have questions about anything big or small just let me know and I'll be glad to help. The Hawks are the best team in the NBA when it comes to rebuilding and shaping the team the way that you would like since they have a lot of draft picks and cap space.

In my own words the protections is like insurance it protects a team on a draft pick they traded and covers them if they are worse then expected. If I trade a 1st round pick thats top 10 protected and it lands 9 I get to keep the pick. If it lands 11 then I will have to give up the pick to the other team. 2K doesn't match up 100% to real life at times so occasionally I will have to fix some things myself. A example the Cavs pick going to Atlanta in real life is top 10 protected for the 1st and 2nd year. If its not conveyed to Atlanta by year 2 then it becomes two 2nd round picks. In 2K though on the 2nd year they will have the pick as unprotected. So if the pick lands 1 through 10 in year 2 I will just trade it back to the Cavs for two 2nds. Big picture 2k is a amazing way to learn some things and it actually helped me get back into basketball myself .

                            2019 Draft - Picks 11 to 14

                            11. Wizards - SF Rui Hachimura

Wizards go with BPA over need as Rui was the conscious best player on the board. He will be a reserve year 1 and if he impresses Otto Porter could be on the trade block down the line. He has good size at 6'8 225 and could have went a few spots earlier. He can score and play some defense a great pick this late.

                            12. Nets - PF Jontay Porter

They needed big men help badly and Porter is a good young stretch big that might start his rookie year. He has the making of a solid starter for years to come. Him and Allen might not be the frontcourt that will scare anyone, but clearly heading in the right direction as a team.

                            13. Clippers - Charles Bassey

Similar to the Nets they are forced to go for need as they have a major hole in the frontcourt. Boban, Gortat and Mike Scott are all FA and more importantly Tobas Harris tore his Achilles and even if he returns will miss half the year. He isn't the shooter or as polished as Porter, but has more upside and a better defender and rebounder.

                            14. Hawks - SG Deandre Hunter

They get a bit lucky as the two teams ahead of them needed big man as Hunter easily could have went a few picks earlier. It came down to Hunter and 3 point ace PG Lindell Wiggington. He is a bit older then most players so he doesn't have the upside as a high end starter. He can defend which is much needed and should grow into a solid 3 & D player. He should see a good amount of playing time as a rookie.

Great draft recap, love what the Hawks did, Zion is a transcendent (if not uncommon) talent at a key position on that team, then add in Bol Bol, DeAndre Hunter and this Edwards kid? Good haul. Like what the Grizzlies did too, smart trade there for them I feel, and they used that extra 2nd rounder well.
                                Any comments are welcome.
