Alcorn State Shocks Nebraska in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Ne. – When the 1-7 Alcorn State Braves made the trip to Lincoln to take on the 6-3 Nebraska Cornhuskers of the Big 12 conference, no one had any doubt about the outcome of this game. However, Alcorn State shocked the basketball world by dealing the Cornhuskers an embarrassing 69-65 home loss. This win marks new Alcorn State head coach Jimmy Price’s first win as a college coach.
“It feels great,” said Coach Price after the game. “We were so close a couple times in our first seven, really we should have never been 0-7 in the first place. But man it feels good to get that first win, and against a power conference team when no one gave us a chance.”
Despite playing a competitive first half, Alcorn State would enter halftime down 8 with the score 31-23 in favor of Nebraska. However, the Braves fought closer throughout the second half, and were eventually able to sink enough free throws in the closing minutes to pull off the upset.
Russell Jimenez led Alcorn State with a career high 28 points, though he did put up 25 shots to get them, shooting 9-25. Chris Drayton added 17 points including some clutch free-throws near the end of the game. Craig Dearman added 9 points (on 4-5 shooting) and 11 rebounds. For Nebraska, 6’11”, 270-pound senior center Domonic Lang really threw his weight around down low. He racked up 29 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore forward Dave King also had 12 points.
Alcorn State has Sunday off before returning to the road to face off against New Mexico St (7-6).

Re: Coaching Legacy of Jimmy Price (CH2K8)
Alcorn State was riding high coming into this matchup as they had just pulled off an upset over Nebraska. While the Braves did manage to hang around for most of this game, they ultimately were not able to overcome the superior talent of the New Mexico State Aggies and lost 80-70.Alcorn State Falls to New Mexico State
New Mexico State had five players score in double digits in the game, and were led by Teddy Dickerson who scored 18. For Alcorn State, it was more of what we have seen all season as Russell Jimenez scored 27 points but had to jack up 24 shots to do it. Floyd Harrington added 11 points on 5-6 shooting. Chris Drayton was a liability in this game going 3-15 from the floor and 0-8 from three-point range.
Next, Alcorn State takes on UT-Pan American (7-8) for the second time this season. UT-Pan American won the first matchup 69-62. After that, SWAC play begins on the road against Prairie View.
