Big expectations for both brothers this season. SFU needs to live up to its preseason billing and return to the dance, and LMU certainly has the roster under Oggy to win a strong WCC. Looking forward to seeing how everything shakes out!

Also, if Louisville doesn't win the national title with four All-Americans, then whoever their virtual coach (Pitino?) should be canned - no excuses with a team as loaded as that.

Yeah, no excuses all the way around, for the brothers or for Chris Mack and Louisville (Pitino left in 2017, this dynasty picked up in 2019).

It's been a 2 year March Madness drought for the brothers. A third year is unacceptable all the way around.

One of these days my Raptors might actually achieve something in a MyLeague.

Might A poor upcoming draft class alter the approach of a few teams this season?

Maybe the addition of Montreal and Vancouver will be the kick in the pants they need. The Andre O'Hara draft pick may be a very good one and on paper De'Aaron Fox is good. He just hasn't been able to lead any teams to wins. Shaddean Christopher is a nice 4th or 5th piece, so maybe they can be OK? I just don't expect it.

With the draft, it's an astute question. I think teams still like a few of the top prospects: Erik Bush, Mani Akins, Jermaine Faulk, or Carson Pane are all possibly good players. As we get closer to the draft, I think we'll see a clear top 3-7 players emerge and any teams that aren't on track to get one of those players may try to maneuver around and offload picks or try something else. Maybe some team will take advantage of the market and try to get more picks this draft.

              November 13, 2025 – St. Francis vs Vermont [non-conference]

The Red Flash easily won their first game of the season against Cornell, holding the Ivy League school to only 42 points as Chris Thompson led the way with 21 points. Tonight should be another game where they can dominate an inferior opponent as they welcome the Catamounts of Vermont into town. The visitors are led by Rudolph Dixon (C, 72 ovr) and Damond Mills (SG, 70 ovr) but will have their hands full with the shooting and talent of the Red Flash.

Dinko is especially interested in how Louie Carlisle and Harlan Cesar fare as backup bigs. The two will be expected to play big minutes behind Thompson and Hailey and will need to take over the starting roles next year. Dinko gave them and the whole team a pep talk and found himself hoping they could walk away with an easy victory – at least by 20+ points.

It was clear we were in a new era in Loretto as the first two baskets for the Red Flash were from Harlan Cesar and E.F. McGuire. They helped get the hosts out to a 17-10 lead, but it did feel a bit sloppy – it would need to get cleaned up.

St. Francis was led by their defense and forced numerous turnovers with high pressure defense and it gave them a 44-23 lead at halftime. Markovic and Willingham were attacking the basket, McGuire and Valdez were shooting threes, and all 4 big men were working the paint. It was a team effort and showcased all the offensive skills on the team. This was what Dinko wanted to see, but it was not as clean as he would have liked and wanted to see them really dominate in the second half. Could they hit 90 points and hold Vermont under 50?

E.F. McGuire rises up over Vermont’s big men for a dunk.

Not quite. The backups played a lot in the second half which gave Dinko a good look at his new players. Harlan Cesar had good size, but was really struggling to score in the paint. Carlisle was smaller but was better at finishing and Markovic may have worked his way into more minutes as he attacked the rim well and is an excellent free throw shooter.

Chris Thompson led the way with 20 points and Erwin Willingham had 4 steals. Markovic and Taj Hailey showed up well by combining to shoot 12-13 from the free throw line, giving Dinko two players he can trust at the end of games.

                Starters: 83 minutes, 12 rebounds
                Bench: 56 minutes, 19 rebounds

Looked like all the made 3's were in the first half. Is anyone on the bench worthy of shooting from that far away?

Thanks for doing that math. Thompson didn't have a great game (despite 20 points) and Carlisle was probably the most impactful player off the bench. If this keeps being the case, St. Francis will be in trouble.

Tanoris Houston can make threes, but he's a point guard and seems to be best as a pick-and-roll guy. Willingham can make threes, but again, I have him at point. So it really all falls on Valdez and McGuire.

2025-26 NBA Season Preview: Northwest Division

The Nuggets have been the best of the West for 2 straight seasons but fallen just short each time. It looks like it’ll be their division again this year as the rest of the division is quite bad outside of Minnesota. Can the Blazers or Sonics finally see some of their young talent lead them to reasonable success? Or will it be more misery in the PNW?

63-19 last year (1st in West). Lost in 6 games in NBA Finals to the Cavaliers.
Key additions: Jaxson Hayes (PF, 79 ovr, from Cleveland), Brandon Goodwin (PG, 78 ovr, from Toronto)
Key losses: Bol Bol (PF, 85 ovr, to Chicago), Cameron Johnson (SF, 78 ovr, to Dallas)

Why the Nuggets are a championship contender
Because they’ve made the NBA Finals 2 straight seasons and just got deeper this offseason.

Why the Nuggets may miss the playoffs
They won’t unless Jokic and one other starter suffer major injuries. They’re as close to a lock as you can get.

Projected record and finish: 58-24 (1st in West)

48-34 last year (6th in West). Lost in round 1 to the Warriors.
Key additions: Spencer Dinwiddie (PG, 79 ovr, from Toronto)
Key losses: OG Anunoby (SG, 84 ovr, to Charlotte)

Why the Timberwolves are a championship contender
Because Arnold McNurlin is going to become a star this year and he and Towns will take them to the top of the West.

Why the Timberwolves may miss the playoffs
Because they’ve never been able to be better than “pretty good” and with a bit of bad luck they’re a play-in team.

Projected record and finish: 51-31 (4th in West)

35-47 last year (11th in West).
Key additions: Nikola Pattrick (C, 83 ovr, from Miami), Russell Westbrook (PG, 78 ovr, from Houston)
Key losses: Ronni Eppenhimer (PG, 80 ovr, to Indiana), Sean Cruz (C, 78 ovr, to Detroit)

Why the Trail Blazers are a championship contender
Because their frontcourt of Nikola Pattrick, Christophe Perben, and Arnold Klein become dominant two-way players and Earl Carney steps up as a starter to become an All-Star.

Why the Trail Blazers may miss the playoffs
Because they’re a team full of really nice role players and no stars.

Projected record and finish: 28-54 (14th in West)

17-65 last year (16th in West).
Key additions: James Harden (SG, 85 ovr, from Atlanta), Damond Conklin (PG, 78 ovr, from Dallas)
Key losses: Gordon Cousinard (SG, 83 ovr, to Clippers)

Why the Sonics are a championship contender
Because James Harden and Bobby Drake become the best duo in the West and outscore everyone.

Why the Sonics may miss the playoffs
Because the league’s worst team decided they would get better by signing 36 year old James Harden and letting young SG Gordon Cousinard go in free agency.

Projected record and finish: 26-56 (15th in West)

42-40 last year (10th in West). Eliminated in the play-in tournament.
Key additions: Matt Forney (PG, 81 ovr, from Milwaukee), B.A. Guasco (SF, 81 ovr, from Charlotte), Donte DiVincenzo (SG, 78 ovr, from Milwaukee), Elmer Okpalobi (PG, 78 ovr, from Indiana)
Key losses: Donovan Mitchell (PG, 91 ovr, to Milwaukee), Tremont Waters (PG, 84 ovr, to Houston)

Why the Jazz are a championship contender
Because the entire Western Conference goes on strike and Utah beats all the scabs from the other teams.

Why the Jazz may miss the playoffs
Because they are led by Jabari Parker.

Projected record and finish: 24-58 (16th in West)

Good win for the Red Flash in a game they were expected to dominate. I need to know the price to get one of those courtside seats at SFU's home gym!

Those baseline seats look awesome. Just 1 row of folding chairs underneath the hoop lol. The Red Flash are selling out all their games, so tickets have got to be at least $20

2025-26 NBA Season Preview: Pacific Division

The Pacific is a very deep and interesting division but one without what seems like a truly dominant team. Despite the Honu’s success last season, there still isn’t a belief that they’ll be as good this year and Phoenix, the Lakers, and Golden State all seem pretty good while the Clippers and Kings could convince themselves they’re playoff teams.

57-25 last year (2nd in West). Lost in 7 games in 2nd round to the Warriors.
Key additions: Mfiondu Kabengele (C, 80 ovr, from Lakers), Rod Douglas (SG, 79 ovr, from Atlanta)
Key losses: Dave Tran (PF, 79 ovr, to Dallas), Rashard Konare (SF, 79 ovr, to Sacramento), Jordan Bell (C, 79 ovr, to Oklahoma City)

Why the Honu are a championship contender
They finished second in the West last season and the combo of Herro and Fultz lead them back to the same levels of success and one of their younger players steps up to become a consistent 3rd scorer.

Why the Honu may miss the playoffs
Because they see Herro and the rest of the team regress to the mean and they’re just a nice story, not a contender.

Projected record and finish: 50-32 (5th in West)

44-38 last year (7th in West). Lost to Honu in 7 games in round 1.
Key additions: Issa Leslie (PG, 82 ovr, from Memphis), Reece Campbell (PG, 79 ovr, from Oklahoma City), Massimo Janning (SG, 79 ovr, from Washington), Sagana Dupree (PF, 78 ovr, from Seattle), Marquese Chriss (C, 77 ovr, from Phoenix)
Key losses: Mfiondu Kabengele (C, 80 ovr, to Hawaii)

Why the Lakers are a championship contender
Because Anthony Davis is a superstar and they got significantly deeper this offseason. If that depth can play well and Issa Leslie and/or Milos Jeffers can take the step to become All-Stars, the Lakers are very interesting.

Why the Lakers may miss the playoffs
Because outside of Anthony Davis, nobody else is a star.

Projected record and finish: 42-40 (7th in West)

43-39 last year (8th in West). Swept in round 1 by Denver.
Key additions: Yunlong Chan (PG, 79 ovr, from Minnesota), Tyler Davis (C, 78 ovr, from Utah), Jaylen Adams (PG, 78 ovr, from Toronto)
Key losses: Aaron Gordon (PF, 81 ovr, to Indiana)

Why the Suns are a championship contender
Because the frontcourt combo of Adrian Stewart and Bam Adebayo are entering their primes and are insanely talented. The backcourt is solid and if they can unlock a way for Stewart to become a star, they’re scary.

Why the Suns may miss the playoffs
Because Adrian Stewart’s teams have never succeeded, he’s been underwhelming, and are you really succeeding with a 33 year old Victor Oladipo as your best perimeter player?

Projected record and finish: 42-40 (8th in West)

56-26 last year (3rd in West). Lost in Western Finals to the Nuggets.
Key additions: Michael Porter Jr (SF, 82 ovr, from San Antonio), Sasha Zagorac (SF, 78 ovr, from Dallas)
Key losses: Steph Curry (PG, 90 ovr, retired), Jimmy Butler (SF, 79 ovr, to Dallas), Arthur Acker (PG, 78 ovr, to New Orleans)

Why the Warriors are a championship contender
Because Jarrett Pressley and De’Andre Ayton bloom into All-Pros in the absence of Steph and Jimmy and they lead this team to the top of the West.

Why the Warriors may miss the playoffs
Because Curry is a generational talent and you cannot just replace him or continue on when he’s gone. Pressley, Ayton, and Porter are nice players, but they are going to struggle in this transition.

Projected record and finish: 41-41 (9th in West)

27-55 last year (14th in West).
Key additions: Rashad Konare (SG, 77 ovr, from Hawaii)
                          Key losses: none

Why the Kings are a championship contender
Because Lauri Markkanen and Domantas Sabonis come together to become the most flexible and interesting frontcourt combo in years and cause problems for the entire league.

Why the Kings may miss the playoffs
Because this team was awful last year and they haven’t gotten any better.

Projected record and finish: 32-50 (11th in West)

17-65 last year (15th in West).
Key additions: Gordon Cousinard (SF, 83 ovr, from Seattle), Emanuel Terry (PF, 82 ovr, from New Orleans), Diamond Barisic (PF, 78 ovr, from draft), D.J. Chambers (PG, 78 ovr, from Spurs)
Key losses: Collin Sexton (PG, 82 ovr, to Bulls), Marquis Huffman (PG, 80 ovr, to Hawks)

Why the Clippers are a championship contender
Because the combo of Coby White and Gordon Cousinard become an amazing 2-way backcourt with defense and shooting.

Why the Clippers may miss the playoffs
Because they are bad and still don’t have a star.

Projected record and finish: 31-51 (12th in West)

Some improved crowds I had created for the Honu and Sonics.

Upcoming expansion teams Montreal and Vancouver also got new crowds.

What a night for both brothers - Dinko's Red Flash make the dance for the first time since 1991, and Oggy's alma mater will join them!

I don't get why everyone keeps saying they hadn't been since 1991. Dinko already got them there! Parallel universes can be slightly confusing.
