Michael Jordan Makes An Appearance At The Bulls Practice

Chicago - Chicago Bulls GM, Michael Jordan came into the Bulls practice to workout with the team and answer young Bulls player, Corey Benjamin's ill-advised challenge to which Benjamin was heard saying to veteran player Randy Brown that he could beat Jordan one on one, eventually word got back to Jordan which prompted him to come down and teach Benjamin a lesson. After workouts were over and Jordan finished humbling Benjamin in a one on one game, Jordan answered questions from members of the press that were there. When asked how he felt while playing and how much game he still had left Jordan chuckled and said "None. I'm playing half court and I'm wore out, the good thing about it is Benjamin is more wore out than I am." Following that a reporter asked if there was any chance, alluding to Jordan making another comeback and Jordan responded "None at all, today was just to break a sweat and see some of the guys to try and help ease some of the morale a bit, Rodney asked if I could stop by sooner or later, I just got back in town and I decided I'd stop by, please don't take it as anything else than that. I play pickup games sometimes in the neighborhoods, no one takes anything from that. I never said I was going to stop playing, I still love the game of basketball without a doubt, it's still fun for me. I had my great reign in basketball, no matter what you guys say, if I come hang around the game cuz I still love the game that doesn't mean I'm coming back to the game." Afterwards a reporter asked if he expects the team to make the playoffs, to which Jordan responded by saying, "This is a transitional period for [the Bulls] and I think anything can happen but right now the morale is down, there hasn't been too much positive things happening out there for them, when that happens negative thoughts start to creep in and they become stagnant out there, so somehow they have to get a win and get the feeling of what winning is all about, they already know what losing is all about and they don't like it so hopefully they take that attitude that losing is something that they can't accept, then they can use it to come to practice to work harder and get back on the basketball court and play it out, but you gotta give the effort, if you're not giving the effort then you're not getting the results." Perhaps Jordan is telling the truth that he isn't planning on making a comeback, or maybe he isn't willing to admit that he's still got the itch, but with Krause gone and a coach on the team that he has likened to Phil Jackson in prior interviews, with the chance to get that elusive 7th championship that he was willing to play another season for if those checkmarks had been met, then maybe a Jordan comeback might be coming sooner rather than later.

A pretty cool real life event that happened around this in game time (It's December in game). In November of 99 Jordan practiced with the Bulls and there's some video footage on YouTube of Jordan beating Benjamin one on one and an interview afterwards where I got the quotes from, not to mention that Skip Bayless wrote an article on it for the Chicago Tribune when it happened and it was questioning whether or not Jordan was being serious about not wanting to comeback or not. Figured it'd make for interesting flavor text, or perhaps it's not just flavor text and Jordan is coming back soon, who knows?

Dale Davis Puts In The Clutch Bucket To Escape Detroit

Chicago - At the sold out Palace of Auburn Hills the Bulls core four of Artest, Williams, Brand, and Harrington put on an excellent performance against the Detroit Pistons, but with Harrington fouled out and clutch baskets needed, it was Dale Davis who stepped up by nailing two back-to-back baskets to tie and then win the game for the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls and Pistons are rivals from when the Isiah Thomas led Pistons were the main obstacle for the Jordan led Bulls to face in the playoffs, and tonight felt like old times. Artest was a key factor in tonight's win with his defense on Hill which included Artest forcing Hill to miss on the shot that could've sent the game to overtime, there was a lot of trash talk from Artest to Hill as well as the fans in Detroit all night, the trash talk almost led to a scuffle between Hill and Artest but it was broken up before anything could go down. However later on in the night, Christian Laettner would pull a dirty move straight out of his Duke days by absolutely nailing Elton Brand with a hard foul which almost led to all out war if it wasn't for teammates from both sides holding them back. Both teams refused to shake hands after the game and when asked about it both teams made it very clear that it was personal between them. Grant Hill had something in particular to say about Artest stating, "He's a very aggressive guy that likes to talk trash, probably because his team isn't doing well and they're most likely going to miss the playoffs, I have better things to worry about, I actually have a chance at winning an NBA Championship unlike him so that's what I'm focusing my efforts on, not these meaningless games against a Bulls team that probably won't be good for another 10 years." When Laettner was asked whether there was any ill intent behind the hard foul on Brand he said "No, it was just your typical hard foul, Brand and Artest were just trying to take out their frustrations on me since we're a contending team and they want to be where we are, sure we lost tonight but in the end we're favorites to enter the NBA Finals and they're favorites to enter the draft lottery." The Bulls are having a decent month with the chance to have a positive record for the month of December, they are currently 5 - 6 with three more games left they face two beatable teams in the Hawks who have the worst record in the East, the Magic who are one game behind the Bulls, and then a tough challenge in the number one seeded Bucks to end off the month. With the Bulls being half a game behind the 8th seeded Celtics, they have a chance to finish this month and get themselves in position to make the playoffs this season and if they do it'll give them a chance to prove Hill and Laettner wrong.

Man, Detroit and Chicago still don't like one another -- and Grant Hill is over here talking a big game, major beef between these squads are forming.

Gritty tough win, but something thats good to see is your whole team clicked together. Usually, you'd have 1-2 guys on and 1-2 off, here everything flowed together.

Trade Deadline Leads To Billups In Philly

Just when it seemed like the trade deadline was going to be uneventful, the Nuggets and the Sixers came to an agreement to send Larry Hughes, Tyrone Hill, and a 2001 2nd Round Pick to Denver for Chauncey Billups and Ron Mercer. This deal gives Philly two guys that can immediately slot into the starting lineup and help Iverson out while Denver gets a good young player in 22 year old Larry Hughes who they're hoping can develop into a great player over time. They also get a veteran in Tyrone Hill who has been an excellent rebounder for the Sixers, averaging 12 rebounds per game on the season and he'll be coming off the bench behind Antonio MyDyess.

                  NBA All-Star Game Lineups Revealed

Oakland - With the NBA's 49th edition of the All-Star game around the corner, the lineups were announced. It looks like it's going to be a fun one this year but some people are already talking about some unfortunate snubs this year. Rasheed Wallace, Glenn Robinson, Allan Houston, and Eddie Jones will all be missing out on the All-Star game this year despite putting on All-Star caliber performances this season. One has to believe that these highly competitive men will use this fuel them and go on to try and finish the second half of this season strong.

Allan Houston Runs Through The Bulls

Chicago - With the Bulls a game or two behind the 8th seeded Hornets and 7th seeded Celtics, they need all the wins they can get, unfortunately for them they ran into the New York Knicks and Allan Houston who went off for 31 points and the Bulls would go on to lose by Jordan's jersey number of 23 points. Meanwhile, Ewing and Camby did a great job of containing all of the Bulls big men and the only member of the Bulls roster that seemed to be able to get into any rhythm offensively was Jason Williams. The Bulls aren't completely out of it though, if they can string together some wins and outlast the Hornets and maybe even the Celtics, they can get into the playoffs as an 8th seed and maybe even a 7th seed.

Not a real bad night by anyone, just a better night by Houston and the Knicks; that 2nd quarter was killer, 15 points in that quarter really sunk the team. Maybe time to look at some rotations and figure out what's working and what's not.

That Billups trade is going to pay off big time for the 76ers in the long run.

The Knicks just reminded the Bulls how far they have left to come however.

I definitely felt like getting AI some help would be cool, especially considering IRL during this season the Raptors were in talks with the Sixers to trade T Mac there for Larry Hughes and a 1st round pick but decided not to go through with it when Stephen A. Smith leaked the trade before it could happen, McGrady and AI vs Shaq and Kobe in the finals would've made things a bit more interesting in 2001. The Bulls have virtually no chance of making it out of the first round as the 7th or 8th seed but playoff experience for a team where the best 4 players have only been in the league for a season or two is very valuable.

Bulls Beat The Celtics To Run Past The Hornets In The Playoff Race

Chicago - With the NBA season a month away from ending, the race for the playoffs is heating up in the eastern conference. The Bulls put together a great game to push themselves back up to the 8th seed over the Hornets with an excellent performance from Jason Williams who did a little bit of everything tonight and with the slow footed Ukranian big man, Vitaly Potapenko guarding the Bulls big men all night, Brand and Harrington were able to abuse him throughout the game. The Hornets path to the playoffs from here is going to be rough for them as the next five games feature top seeded teams that are already set to enter the playoffs in the Knicks, 76ers, Lakers, Trail Blazers, and SuperSonics. It's going to take a lot of effort and luck for Charlotte to get through all those teams and even after they get through all those teams, they get a chance to beat the current worst team in the league the Los Angeles Clippers and then right after they have to face the wrath of former Hornets player and DPOY candidate Alonzo Mourning and the Miami Heat. That many potential losses can cost the Hornets a chance to enter the playoffs and is an opportunity for the Bulls as they continue to get wins and gain momentum and attempt to work their way up to the 7th seed as they're only a game and a half behind the Celtics after this victory.

Great game from all the Bulls starters there -- no one sold, everyone contributed. Those are the types of well-balanced nights that will get this young team to the postseason.

Shaquille O'Neal Is The NBA's MVP

Now that the NBA's regular season has officially come to an end the NBA has officially announced all the regular season award winners, with Shaquille O'Neal coming away with the ultimate regular season prize, the NBA's coveted MVP award for the first time in his career. Shaq led the Lakers to a 64-18 record, the best in the entire league while averaging 25 ppg, 19 rpg, and 2.9 bpg. Steve Francis takes home the NBA's Rookie of the Year award with 21 ppg and 7.9 apg. Denver made the trade for Tyrone Hill in the middle of the season to increase their depth and the trade worked off big time as he's taking home the Sixth Man of the Year award, the big man averaged 9.2 ppg, 11.4 rpg, and 1.3 bpg off the bench in Denver. Minnesota's Kevin Garnett comes away with the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award, his quick hands allowed him to come away with 1.6 spg and his interior defense caused him to come away with 2.1 bpg, his versatility on the defensive end was a difference maker for the Timberwolves as he led his team to the playoffs in the Western Conference. Jalen Rose went from averaging 11 ppg last season to stepping up this season and averaging 18.6 ppg as he's awarded the Most Improved Player of the 1999-2000 NBA season. Finally, Mike Dunleavy takes home the Coach of the Year award for his excellent work in bringing the Portland Trail Blazers to another great year as they were not only the second seed in the West but the second best overall record in the entire NBA.
