Tovarich: Another kinda lazy performance. 11 turnovers is likely a high for my career I think. 5 by Stivers is something I think I've never seen before. I probably should've been less stubborn and accepted earlier that 3's were not really gonna happen and we better just get it into the paint on ever possession. Obviously the signs were there and I ignored them. So, partly that game staying close was on me. But I'd hope to be getting the bench more minutes in these conference games, especially the home ones where we should be dominating and we just tend not to.

Reporter: Why are you bigs so inconsistent? They can go 21 and 12 like Shehan did tonight, but often go for about 4 and 5 as well.

Tovarich: Yeah, there are some mysterious forces in the universe that are unseen and sometimes they're awesome like today and sometimes the 3 point shooting is off. Just one of those random things in basketball.

Reporter: Why did their press cause so many turnovers today?

Tovarich: I don't know. Stivers is usually solid with the ball. He's a JR and started almost 90 games and he makes great passes against the press. Maybe just another one of those hidden forces that randomize things.

Tovarich: It's a win I guess. Another poor night from 3. Their press was excessive. I guess you gotta try something, but that went on far too long despite it being largely ineffective. Luckily we did a good job getting to the line for FT's, otherwise that's an even game at the end, which it shouldn't be against this opponent.

Reporter: Was your team looking ahead to Denver?

Tovarich: I don't think so. I don't think the players carry over the kind of animosity I do against their coach for running up the score 2 years ago. That's just a me thing.

Reporter: You started to press them back toward the end of the first half but not after halftime, why?

Tovarich: I was just doing it because they were. We were comfortably ahead most of the second half, so I didn't feel the need. Then they finally stopped with about 5 minutes to go.

Reporter: This is the fewest minutes for the bench in a while.

Tovarich: Yeah, turns out they did a little better than it felt like they did, and they were effective with the press for sure, getting 4 steals in 6 minutes, but it felt like the starters needed to be out there. Stivers was exhausted I know from the man to man full court after every basket and having to spring out of it a lot.

Reporter: The Denver game where they scored unnecessarily at the end was a long time ago, how long do you plan on holding a grudge about it?

Tovarich: Until Coach whatever his name even is gets fired.

Tovarich: Well, I was hoping for 100. I'd have settled for Stivers hitting the 3 at the buzzer, but neither panned out. Oh well, such is life.

Reporter: Did you make your point coach?

          Tovarich: Yes, I think so.

          Reporter: So this is over?

Tovarich. No. My point was this is never over.

Reporter: Do you feel good about yourself for full court pressing the entire game?

Tovarich: I'll sleep just fine tonight, but I didn't press the entire game. I did not press after the first made basket of each half.

Reporter: Tracy Wolfson said at halftime you didn't feel it would be classy to run up the score.

          Tovarich: She's a liar. I definitely didn't say that.

Reporter: Anything else you'd like to say coach?

Tovarich: I'd like to congratulate Denver's PG on his double-double.

Tovarich: They were their usual level of relentless on the halfcourt trap the entire game. Had to press back against them and they didn't like that very much. They should've taken a 3 on every possession the way they were shooting them. They'd have won easily. We did a good job at the line there at the end. Got a few key offensive rebounds. They're one of the better teams in the conference, so it's usually not easy.

Reporter: Just 2 turnovers, does their press really bother you?

Tovarich: It's not all about that. It can speed up the half-court offense too and that lead to some misses for sure. My favorite was the possession where they got 3 of their 4 blocks on consecutive attempts, only for us to get the basket on a goaltending call, or it would've been a 4th block.

Reporter: You have 4 of your next 5 on the road, any concern for a loss there?

Tovarich: It's bound to happen. Lots of things have to go against us but it happened last year @ Troy. We have Troy as the one home game here in the middle. That'll be tougher than the road games.

Reporter: Do you assume you'll win the Sun Belt at this point?

Tovarich: I assumed that a long time ago. We're still playing for a 1-seed though and then hopefully not some crazy good team in the 2nd round.

Tovarich: Rough night for them. Good win. End of speech.

Reporter: How did the starters only get 4 rebounds?

Tovarich: Seems like that has to be a mistake doesn't it? Shehan was still a little winded so I put Petrauskas out there with the starters, then there wasn't a single stoppage for 6 minutes I think, so he must've grabbed them all then. He is the superior rebounder, I just wish he was more reliable on offense.

Reporter: Lewis and Galbreath both had career highs in points. Do you have a frontrunner to start next year?

Tovarich: Still Galbreath most likely, but we'll wait until next year to worry about that. We'll see the numbers for the season and how they improve in the offseason.

Tovarich: They sure didn't play like an 8-16 team. We did just barely enough. 11/11 on FT's was huge. I had never heard of Cranford University today, but he was great more a guy who averages about 12.5 a game. Shehan was big, Tamayo did his usual thing. Another game where we much be their Super Bowl because they played way above their previous results. But this team is just so good, it can overcome it almost all the time.

Reporter: Were you avoiding pressing for so long just to be stubborn?

Tovarich: Kinda yes. We were back and forth most of the game, so I didn't feel the need. I just assumed we'd get it together. Then they got up 7 so we pressed for about 3 minutes, got the momentum back and then we just did ever so slightly enough the rest of the way.

Reporter: Were you surprised Cranford missed the tying 3 at the buzzer the way he'd shot?

Tovarich: Yeah, they were a little rushed, with just over 4 seconds, but they got it to him quickly as you'd expect. So quick I didn't have time to tell anyone to foul before he fired it off.

Reporter: How shocked are you to have been out-attempted from 3?

Tovarich: Yeah, that doesn't happen a lot. Shehan was doing such a good job down low, we got him the ball a lot, maybe still not enough. They should have shot them every time if they can make 50%. I would.

Tovarich: The universe almost conspired against us there. +15 shots, +13 in turnovers and we squeek it out by 2 at the end.

Reporter: How ironic was it that they had no time to get the ball back at the end because of their lack of fouls?

Tovarich: My favorite kind of irony. We had 6 team fouls before they finally called the first one on them. So when they got it from 4 down to 2 at the end, they had to try and foul 6 times and we were able to run around enough to avoid them getting it back.

Reporter: How big were the offensive rebounds in the last 4 minutes?

Tovarich: The difference in the game. We were grossly outrebounded, especially early in the 2nd half. They seemed to get EVERY miss back, and we'd usually get called for a foul somewhere on many of the putbacks. But 5 offensive rebounds, 3 on one possession before Tamayo finally hit the 3 on the 4th shot was the difference. We killed just enough time to eek it out.

Reporter: How did you feel Riley did against the press?

Tovarich: Very hit and miss. He missed a lot of layups, he got some. They took a surprisingly long time to call it off, but I guess they felt it was working somewhat.

Anyone seen a glitch where it's showing imaginary overtime scores? I had it happen once earlier this season but it made no difference. I beat Troy but the calendar shows an L and it has OT scoring that never happened. The box scores are the correct stats and it's showing the correct result so maybe it's fine?

Tovarich: Excellent game. Shot great from 3. Rakiecki hit 1,000 points for his career. Marshall did a great job against the press in the second half. Not sure why they played zone against us again. Pretty sure we put 99 on them the first time too. First trip to Little Rock somehow. Not sure what the schedule rotation is, but took a long time to play a game here.

Reporter: Congrats on clinching the Sun Belt championship coach.

Tovarich: Oh, right, that. I think we already have the banner made for that one. Thanks though.

Reporter: Were you tempted to leave Tamayo in to see just how streaky he could be and put up some records? Or is it more important to get the B team in and get them more experience and playing time?

Tovarich: If the game were closer, I'd leave him in. But it's more important to get everyone else some time. Li and Marshall had tremendous games. Marshall's a SR so not so much about the future for him, but Li needed a game like that.

Reporter: Is getting to #1 in the polls important?

Tovarich: It'd be nice to get some bonus points as a coach. I think it would be laughable though. We played a tough OOC schedule, and some of those turned out to be good teams, and some not so much, and we're piling up wins against lesser competition in the Sun Belt, but obviously, of course we're not the best team.
