Wild how you basically have the same margin of victory in all 3 games so far, despite the difference in opponent quality. I love the Alaska-Anchorage vs New Hampshire Elite 8 matchup. What a world!

Tovarich: I guess all you can do is throw your arms up in the air at that kind of 3-point shooting. We tried doubling some of the more insanely hot 3-point shooters, but everyone guard and SF on the roster was on fire lol. Guarding them all straight up did nothing. That has to be one of the all-time great 3-point shooting percentages with a Final Four on the line.

Reporter: How much further do you think this team could have gone?

Tovarich: Duke or UNLV would have been a tall task, but we ran into a buzzsaw first.

Reporter: How were you feeling about the start?

Tovarich: It was slow for both teams, slower for them even than us. We were up 6-0 after about 3 1/2 minutes I think, but Fleming started 0-4. We missed too many chances. You knew it would come back to bite us. But they were either just waiting to get warmed up or were sandbagging and then they just turn it on and drain 3 after 3.

Reporter: What do you think you could have tried differently?

Tovarich: We doubled Lucas. I knew he wasn't going to miss, so I figure we may as well give someone else a try. We can't double them all. They were shooting contested 3's and making them all, so zone wasn't going to help. I don't know. We were even with 90 seconds to go before they hit a couple 3's and we missed every shot we took. They finished and we didn't.

Reporter: Does this diminish the overall season?

Tovarich: It was still a tremendous season. We'll try a harder schedule next year though. We're past beating up on too many of these small schools, but no matter what, it's rough to know you had a chance to get to a Final Four and all you had to do was beat New Hampshire to do it and they played out of their minds and ended your season. That's a chance you may never get again. It's hard to say what the ceiling for our program is so every chance like this is one you have to seize and we couldn't. New Hampshire may never do this again either.

Anchorage played really well. Rebounding was close. Shooting percentage was good. They just played better. Tough way to lose.

Can Crandle shoot? Could Bullicer start at SG? Barber-Fleming pick-and-roll work well?

With Fleming scoring 22 ppg last year, I wonder if he can hit 30+ by the end of his career.

I'm not 100% on the decisions yet. I may stick with Hale as the PG so he doesn't leave after this season. Barber shoots 3's better, but I want Pippen taking as many as he can, so he might be more useful on the bench. Crandle shot 36.8% on 3's last year.

                    3-point ratings are as follows
                    Pippen 87
                    Len Bullicer 83
                    Barber 82
                    Hale 78
                    Freeman 77
                    Crandle 75

All this 3 point shooting ability may be what prevents Fleming from getting up to 30ppg

Coaching changes were largely consistent with previous seasons. All assistants were retained by head coaches who were retained. All directly promoted coaches brought their assistants with them. Fired assistants who were hired elsewhere do not bring their assistants with them.

K retired from Duke, replaced by Keith Dambrot (Akron)
Calhoun retired from UConn, replaced by Gregg Marshall (Wichita State). Gregg Marshall was replaced with Fran McCaffery from Siena
Tom Penders retired from Houston, replaced by Bob Marlin (original Sam Houston coach, was head coach of American-I think the first to be HC of 3 schools via 2 promotions-(Eustachy was coach of USM, S Car, then fired and landed at Grand Canyon)
Bill Carmody was fired by Northwestern (replaced by Jim Wooldridge of Cal Riverside) and landed at Prairie View
SMU fired Matt Doherty, replaced by Perry Clark (TXAM-CC)
Duquesne fired Matt Everhart, replaced by Avhenniemi (original Bowling Green Assistant, was just head coach of Green Bay). Everhart landed at TXAM-CC

For the first time, Coach Tovarich was able to hire C+ assistants instead of C assistants only. Also for the first time, assistants passed up by Coach Tovarich were hired at other small schools such as Eastern Washington, High Point, Siena, etc.

Delaware hired the fired coach of IPFW, an indirect promotion but did not retain his assistants because of that.

Some fired head coaches who landed other jobs:
Western Carolina coach (assistant at George Washington)
Northeastern coach (assistant at Georgia Tech)
Original North Texas coach (assistant at Duke when K retired) now an assistant for Long Beach State
NJIT coach after sitting out a season is now an assistant for Canisius
Loyola Marymount coach (assistant at Stephen F Austin)
Jacksonville State coach (sat out 2 seasons, now is an assistant for St. Mary's)
Abbott (original Arizona assistant) fired by IPFW, now HC of Delaware
Idaho State coach landed at Arkansas-Pine Bluff

                      Other various oddities
An assistant for Eastern Washington was an original assistant for UT-Martin lost his job when UTM coach was fired after season 1 and sat out the last FOUR seasons before returning now
An assistant for Idaho State also was an original assistant for WF and lost his job after season 1 and disappeared for four seasons before resurfacing
South Carolina Upstate remains the only staff with 3 original head coaches (Loyola Chicago, assisted by SC Upstate coach and Wake Forest coach)
Original American coach, then fired and an assistant at Boston U is now back as a head coach at Cal State Bakersfield (I think the first original HC to be fired, be an assistant and go back to being HC)
Alaska-Anchorage leads with 9 different assistants under one head coach
Both Miami Ohio assistants were hired as HC's, and both were replaced by freshly fired assistants from Eastern Washington and Loyola Marymount
Cotton (original USM assistant, then S Car assistant) sat out a year after being fired and was hired as HC of McNeese State (first known occurence)
